In my own opinion this place is a gem. There's nothing bad on the menu. You can bring a family or sit at the bar and have the same great experience. The kitchen is crushing it here and the servers are friendly and just on it. Consistently good, well prepared, delicious. You're going to pay for it, but your getting fresh made-to-order deliciousness. Highlights are: Chorizo fritters, The New York Steak, Fish Tacos, any of the Burgers, the pizza, and the fried chicken sandwich. - You get the idea. One of the sides is also unique. The sweet potato pie. It's not a dessert, but if you have a palette for strong savory flavors; give it a try. I've never had anything like it. The chef has a flavor profile for just about everything which is a focus on chipotle/smoked paprika. If that's not your thing, you may not be real happy. What an awesome surprise. Not your typical bar food your would be expecting. Everything was full of favor and well cooked. The steak bites looked overdone and uneventful but were full of flavor!! Loved the spice rub on them. Highly recommend. Also the barnyard fries were so tasty. Have a good spicy kick to them. The roasted beet salad was a definite hit - the dressing and the pickled items added such great flavor to the salad. Decent amount of different beers to choose from. Came here with family for brunch & only two of us liked our food. Service was fine. Our waitress was nice, but unsure about the cook. Received burnt french toast once again after sending it back to the kitchen. The Chicken & Waffles plate consisted of weirdly spiced chicken & a waffle that was almost burnt, but tasted old. We also ordered the Bacon Breakfast Sando & Salmon rice plate which we enjoyed. The salmon tasted very fresh, but the seasoned fries which came with the Breakfast sando tasted as though they just added paprika on top of the fries after they were cooked. We preferred the garlic fries over the seasoned house fries. As an appetizer we ordered the beignet platter, which was good. For drinks the Mimosas & Bloody Mary were good, but the orange juice was not freshly squeezed. Sorry, but our first red flag should have been that the place was pretty much empty on a Saturday at 11pm. Pricy food & did not leave satisfied. read more

I'm a pretty picky critic and so far everything I've ordered has been excellent. The white pizza is probably my favorite and their apple pear salad is delicious. The drinks are really good. My only complaint is that they are not open all week for lunch. I get maybe closing Mondays and Tuesdays but Wednesday too is a bummer. There are not a lot of good lunch places in town and I feel like they would do tremendous business if open Wednesday. read more

The service was good / that I give 5 stars...but the food was OK .. not horrible but not great ... my pizza (veggie pizza) flavor was good but it was soggy in the middle - they need to spread the cheese out more or veggies out more or something - not put so much in the middle cause it weighs it down and makes it soggy in the middle ... husband got the fried chicken burger - too rich unfortunately . The wine was good and the beer .. we will return but hope they read the reviews so they can perfect their pizza read more

Quick service, smiling workers, and very clean! We got the veggie pizza, bean patty burger, half roasted chicken, walnut salad, and nachos. All were delicious. The portions are enough to have leftovers to enjoy again later! There was so much garlic on the garlic fries, SO yummy! There was so much garlic that I added it to my veggie pizza for later This was my first time here and I really love the vibes of the Running Rooster. We sat on the bar side and got to enjoy the sight of all the orders being plated in front of us. It really makes the customers want to come back to try something else. The pollock fish tacos are not gluten-free but equally tasty. Service was prompt and our server had a good sense of humor. She was quite knowledgeable about the gluten-free options on the menu. So they say that we eat with her eyes first. That means for you to want to eat something it has to look appealing. Being that I was very hungry when I saw this plate I didn't feel hungry anymore. The presentation said it all. I ordered the half of roasted chicken and it had two sides mashed potatoes and coleslaw with a biscuit. The chicken was actually pretty delicious but the other 3/4 of the meal was hardly palatable. The mashed potatoes were boxed and the coleslaw didn't even have any green in it but it also tasted super bitter. The biscuit was burnt on one side so obviously over cooked so it had no flavor. The service was surprisingly good for how busy it got in there. We were there for several hours and spent quite a piece of change because we were drinkers that night. They couldn't mess up the drinks because I stayed away from the specialty cocktails and just got vodka and soda water with a splash of Cran. At one time I highly recommended this place but they need to go back to basics like making mashed potatoes from scratch and making their food look appealing to eat. read more

Update: After the response I received on my previous review we gave this restaurant another shot. Sadly to say the service and most of the food was just not good at all. I must say though the pizza I had was very good but that was it. We were a group of 5 and it took about 10-15 minutes for them to even pay attention to us to seat us, then another 15-20 minutes to take our drink order which also ended up being our food order as well due to them taking so long. The good also took extremely long to come out good thing we ordered appetizers that came in between. So sad to say that service just isn't what it used to be. We used to love this restaurant, but after Covid and the new owner or chef it just isn't as good. The service also depends, we've had great service and some of the worst here. Sadly I don't have too much positive to say for this place other than they were open for business when others were closed. Service was very slow and I found the prices to be a bit on the high side considering the menu and size of portions. The menu reminded me of a Chilis. I can usually skip over the negatives if the food is worth the grief but I found this to be a fail as well. I've been coming to this restaurant since they first opened and I have seen all their changes to their menu. However recently it just seems like the quality of their food has consistently gone down and their prices keep going up. Sad to see as this was one of my favorite places to eat but I no longer enjoy the food, it just doesn't taste that great for the price. read more

I've recently visited this place twice. And the service as well as the food was impeccable. The open floor plan is great. They have some seating outside for warmer dryer weather. A full bar. The apps were delicious. First visit I got a burger. It was . The second visit I couldn't decide between the avocado pizza and the pickle pizza so I got both. The pickle pizza was by far the most delicious thing I've ever tasted in my life. If you like pickles I strongly recommend. If your local or not o highly advise you try this place. I will be returning more then I'd like to admit. Lol. read more

July 4, 2018 - We stopped in for lunch and were pleasantly greeted upon entering. We were given a selection of tables to choose from, and we chose a high top. The menu has a lot of variety. We chose a tri-tip sandwich and the chicken avocado BLT (bacon/lettuce/tomato) on sliced ciabatta, an order of large onion rings, and sodas. The tri-tip sandwich was dry as the tri-tip was well done. The chicken avocado BLT was absolutely delicious. But it was served on white bread instead of ciabatta. That was not a big deal as it was so good. The onion rings were very flavorful. The sodas come in huge glasses which I am sure the staff appreciates...less refills. The bathrooms were very clean and there is plenty of parking. We will be back to give that tri-tip another try. read more

It was my first time trying running rooster yesterday, and I have to say for the most part it was a pleasant experience! I loved the barn house theme/feel of the restaurant! The host and waiter that attended us were really nice and kept checking up on us throughout our experience which was great. We started off with Garlic Knots as our appetizer, they were good the bread was airy and flakey. I preferred to eat them by themselves than with the sauce it came with. Then when our main course came the burgers the appearance looked great! I had the garlic fries with the El Jefe burger it was a huge burger with pepper Jack cheese, Chipotle Mayo, bacon, lettuce, Tomato etc. I added on mushrooms. The burger for me was the reason this place got 4 stars today. It was way too salty for me, it was either due to the bacon or the seasoning on the beef patty. Once this place can get that down I would give it 5 stars for sure! read more

One of the better restaurants in Hollister. Went here for dinner. The servers were friendly and attentive. Service was fast. I ordered the BBQ pizza added jalapeños. IMO the bbq was a tad too sweet and the Jalapeños were not spicy at all?! I wouldn't order again. But everything else was delicious. Food was pricey but with the current times it's expected. Never have I felt so discriminated against. We are a party of three Latinos and stopped by for dinner. First the hostess refused to give us a table inside the restaurant that was available n insisted on taking us to the back by the bar area. We requested a table inside and we were the next party in line. A white couple later comes in and hands the hostess a $20 bill to be seated next and advised the white woman to seat at the table that we were waiting for. The hostess then was escorting us to the back again. When asked, why we weren't getting the other table, she indicated that the white couple that came in after us called in for a reservation. I then informed her that I had seen everything and that was not the case. She wa shocked and returned the money she had received. We were greeted by Mary Ellen who was our waitress. I asked who the manager in charge was and she indicated that she was. I informed her of what happened and she dismissed it and blamed us instead. Apparently, she had already been told what happened . We placed our ordered and we were sitting there for about 15 minutes without receiving a tap beer we ordered. Not once did she come back and checked on us so we paid our drinks and left. It is disheartening that this kind of treatment still exists and especially to be encouraged by management with no regards. As a supervisor one should take every complain seriously instead of providing poor service n be dismissive. read more

I don't like the idea of putting down a local, non chain , restaurant but .. they've gone so far downhill. Several years ago I actually was promoting this spot, and considered it my favorite in town. They changed their menu, changed their prices, and the vibe of the location. It became very clear over several visits that my family an I were not wanted here.
