One of the better restaurants in Hollister. Went here for dinner. The servers were friendly and attentive. Service was fast. I ordered the BBQ pizza added jalapeños. IMO the bbq was a tad too sweet and the Jalapeños were not spicy at all?! I wouldn't order again. But everything else was delicious. Food was pricey but with the current times it's expected. I've held my tongue for a couple years now about this spot. But gotta say, I'll never pay for their food again. I don't like the idea of putting down a local, non chain , restaurant but .. they've gone so far downhill. Several years ago I actually was promoting this spot, and considered it my favorite in town. They changed their menu, changed their prices, and the vibe of the location. It became very clear over several visits that my family an I were not wanted here. They only want a specific group of people, sadly typical for Hollister. Because of this we only ordered takeout. So anyway, the $4 teaspoon of coleslaw was the last straw for me. I have always loved the burgers here at running rooster and recently I've come to love their brunch menu as well :) the bottomless mimosas are the perfect pairing with their eggs benedict and the chocolate and fruit filled beignets with chocolate sauce.. omgosh to die for! Since the remodel, and them reopening. The food has gotten so much better!!! The staff is super friendly!! Very kid friendly as well. The bar area looked so cool! I find it amazing where you can pay $5 to buy the chief a drink for them after work. They also have pass it on, where you buy someone else a drink and when they come in they have to pass it on. It is the little things like that. In the last month, I have gone here twice and counting. To see running rooster doing so much better then they were is amazing. Never have I felt so discriminated against. We are a party of three Latinos and stopped by for dinner. First the hostess refused to give us a table inside the restaurant that was available n insisted on taking us to the back by the bar area. We requested a table inside and we were the next party in line. A white couple later comes in and hands the hostess a $20 bill to be seated next and advised the white woman to seat at the table that we were waiting for. The hostess then was escorting us to the back again. When asked, why we weren't getting the other table, she indicated that the white couple that came in after us called in for a reservation. I then informed her that I had seen everything and that was not the case. She wa shocked and returned the money she had received. We were greeted by Mary Ellen who was our waitress. I asked who the manager in charge was and she indicated that she was. I informed her of what happened and she dismissed it and blamed us instead. Apparently, she had already been told what happened . We placed our ordered and we were sitting there for about 15 minutes without receiving a tap beer we ordered. Not once did she come back and checked on us so we paid our drinks and left. It is disheartening that this kind of treatment still exists and especially to be encouraged by management with no regards. As a supervisor one should take every complain seriously instead of providing poor service n be dismissive. read more

I went to the Running Rooster years ago and then recently decided to try it again with my family. Boy, has it changed! We liked their varied menu and sunny patio. I had the regular fish tacos, which were pretty good. There were a couple of burgers I'd like to try at future visits. My husband enjoyed their house Bloody Mary (yum) and they have an interesting bar menu & beer selections. Lots of big TVs for all you sports fans out there! Go team!!! This is one of my favorite places in town. Service is good. Food is satisfying and they HAD...I say had because its not on the most recent menu I have seem. But they had the most amazing appetizer I have ever eaten! It was so delicious that my eyes literally rolled. It was the steak fondito! Served with "house chips" NOT tortilla chips option. The house chip is almost like a fried dough. Served with the fondito...which is melted cheese, onions, peppers, steak, with a pico on top. Omg!! We had 5 adults, a 4 year old and a 1 year old who did not order anything. I didn't read the fine print on the menu. Husband paid and the bill was $220. When we got home we looked more closely. There was a 20% service charge ($29). We had also gave the server a tip because we didn't see the service charge. So she got paid a double tip. I called them up to clarify. They charge a service charge for parties over 6, which includes kids (1yr old who didn't order anything, and 4 year old who did). I am used to groups over 8 being charged this, but not 6. The service was not very good, although the server was great, just didn't see her very much. The food was definitely not worth this price. I won't be going there again. ***EDIT*** Just noticed that they charged us a dollar extra for a small cup of ranch dressing that we asked for because the one they gave us for our basket of fries was not enough. read more
