Here on a work trip and unfortunately, I have another evening booked here in the future because it was one of the only places affordable in this area. Firstly, the front desk is only open from 1 to 7 each day. I got there around 6:30 with an extremely unhelpful girl at the front desk. She was normal but no help at all. I had to come back out and ask her for Wi-Fi ask if there are any amenities, she just shrugged her shoulders and said she didn't know I saw and noticed there were a few bicycles which I noticed were part of the amenities on the website and a main reason why I chose this place so I'm able to bike around and explore, upon further inspection every one of the four bicycles were broken. Tires were flat handlebars were pointed downwards, cause they weren't tightened enough the brakes didn't work and one of the bikes chains were completely off. I went in after I tried driving down the hill with no brakes and almost crashed. Spoke to the girl again she shrugged her shoulders. I said why don't you come out here so I can show you and she said yeah I don't know what to tell you. I told her these are super unsafe and you can't let anyone drive them. They will literally fall apart. When I tell you, these bicycles were so terrible and completely put together wrong. The restaurant is closed for the season. No one's there. There are no places around the area to get anything. So I walked about a mile into town instead of ordering a $40 Uber. Honestly bummed that I have to stay here another night at the end of the month. read more

Great choice. Absolutely great. 1.) Consider the area you are staying, Montauk is pricey to begin with and I have seen reviews criticizing the price of drinks (we did not eat or drink here) and I'd just like to mention that. 2.) fabulous ambiance, we came in the mid-day when the lodge was empty, great parking and we were able to access our room by code-- didn't even need to go wait for a card. 2.) proximity to the beach and our various destinations was a breeze. Bounce and The Nest will be reviewed both highly recommended 3.) room was clean, Le Labo ready to use in the shower, easily accessible outlets available. Found out on arrival that groups larger than 8 are forced into a pre-fix menu that doesn't place any consideration on dietary restrictions and costs $100 per person (not including alcohol). Two pizzas, fried food, and the most disgusting fried fish tacos I've ever seen are the sneak preview to the night in the bathroom you can look forward to. The service is mediocre at best as they attempt to speed eat you through a few courses of microwaved food. Everyone in my group left price gouged and unsatisfied. If we hadn't already paid the cab to get over there I would have turned around upon arrival. We had high hopes to stay for the night out but felt so sick after dinner it didn't seem worth the money or the bother. Won't recommend. Won't be coming back. Went there the night of 6/18, sat in back right corner of the place. Music way too loud. our waitress spilled 4 glasses of RED wine down the back of my head and back. I was soaked, to the point where I was ringing out red wine all over the floor from my head and outfit. I got one small apology and that was it. No napkins, no manager apology, no offer to comp our spilled wine or anything for that matter. THEN after spilling the wine on me while I am still soaked they had audacity to basically ask us to leave or spend $1000 to keep our table on a bottle of Tito's vodka that costs $30 at liquor store. horrible place. Pulling up to Ruschmeyer's you're taken back to your days at camp, as this used to be a camp and still has the camp ground feel. It was Sunday night on Memorial Day weekend and only their third day open. We had a reservation for 7pm and were seated immediately. The staff was so friendly, and helpful from the moment we arrived. The place was already packed and had a great, lively energy. I ordered a glass of Sancere and my husband tried the ginger cocktail. We started with the watermelon salad with shiso, peanuts and the raw scallop. They were both excellent. The simplicity of these high quality ingredients really stood out. The watermelon was so sweet and the shiso cut through it perfectly. The scallop was raw and sweet and prepared like a piece of modern art. I am not usually one to jump at a pizza unless the place is known for pizzas, but our waiter highly recommended the pork sausage pizza with ricotta, kale and walnuts and I see why. The crust was a wheat crust, which is also something I would not usually want, but this was a fantastic consistency. The sausage had a slight kick and it was mellowed by the creamy and salty ricotta. Yum! We shared the market fish with a carrot charmoula and eggplant. It was a sizable piece of fish with skin on, and perfectly crispy. I loved the carrot charmoula so much that I asked for extra to dip the fish into. Unfortunately for me, it ended up all over my white jacket rather than in my mouth. We also ordered a side of old bay potatoes that could have used a little more old bay. Loved the lively atmosphere, the food was incredible and the service was wonderful. The worst service I've ever received. Melody Thomas the matra d and manager was rude, disrespectful, and as a manager seemed incompetent. I've been here the past few years and this experience, food came out in 10 minutes, was cold and we were told they don't have olive oil and vinegar meaning they cook their overcooked pizza and fries in PAM. We had 2 groups of 4 and called 3 times to confirm our tables could be seated next to one another as we were not informed that there's a group dining available. Melody said we couldn't have called as she would have answered in which I asked if she'd like a copy of my verizon phone bill to verify our call. The food had a great taste and flavor, prompt delivery, friendly service in a casual atmosphere - they've really nailed down the adults-from-the-city-at-camp vibe down pat. Outside there is an area with picnic tables where people are just chilling. I found this place to be kind of like a maze - there are a few different entrances to this place and you can easily lose your friends when it's crowded. This place is busy and loud. Seems like a pretty young crowd that loves drinking - can't go wrong with that, eh? But seriously, it is intense in there. Started with a micro-green salad as an appetizer - one salad is a nice size to split. It was a bit salty from the pancetta and dressing, but we liked it overall. We split a clam pizza for an entree. It took a longgg time to come out and we were told it's a popular dish and their oven can handle only a few pizzas at a time. Not the best clam pizza I've ever had (that award goes to Domenica in New Orleans), but it was satisfying. I would recommend adding some garlic to the pizza for a bit more flavor. Finally, we shared a great side of beets. Biggest complaint is too few bathrooms. There is apparently more than one, but the line to the one near the front entrance was always 10-15 mins since it was used by bar and restaurant guests. I'll be totally candid that I'm a brat when it comes to waiting in line, so take this all with a grain of salt. But to let groups of guys in who are barely over 22 while hoards of girls wait in line is just a bizarre way to run an establishment. The new management clearly cares more about packing in the "bottle service crew" than maintaining a chill vibe. Once we got in, the bartender charged me 20% gratuity on my 4 shots-- not craft cocktails, literal tequila in a cup... 1. not legal at all in NY State, 2. we weren't even a party of 6 or more-- this guy was plain exploitative. As a liberal San Franciscan coming to this small town called Montauk in the year of 2013, I felt like I had traveled back in time to the days of slavery when I walked into this bar. I was a bit nervous to check out Ruschmeyer's based on the 2.5 star average, but I'm glad I did. Based on some of the negative feedback from other reviewers my friends and I took a few steps to enhance our experience: we pre-gamed a bit before showing up and we went a bit early - around 9:45pm. By doing so we saved money on drinks (but beers are only $7-8 which to me is normal), avoided the holding pen, didn't have to wait in line, and secured a good spot on the dance floor. The place was already happening at 10pm so showing up early didn't waste our time. I thought the DJ was great - lots of 90's sing-a-long/dance music (nothing kitschy/weddingy). One thing that stood out to me that was even though the dance floor was packed and you inevitably bumped into other people on the dance floor, there was none of the typical aggression/pushing that you normally experience at clubs. When we got tire of dancing we were able to hang out on the patio for a while, but they eventually closed it (maybe around midnight). Even then, you could hang out in the bar area. Overall it was a really fun bar and I'll probably go back the next time I'm in the area. read more

Honestly, this place is beautiful, with a great atmosphere, and a huge venue for dancing. However, the two nights I was there the music was beyond horrible. The dj did not take requests, because he had never heard of the current, relevant music we were requesting. The drinks were absurdly expensive. $13 for a well vodka cranberry... The ambiance was cool, and the decor was beautiful. It is however out of the main strip in Montauk, so you need to take a cab to get there. The location is not convenient because the cabs in Montauk rip you off. If you are looking to dance, I would recommend The Point, which turns into a packed dancey atmosphere. If you are looking to dance and want cheap cheap drinks, I would recommend Memory Motel, unless you are easily skeeved out by sleazy atmospheres. read more

Horrible service. No one answers the phone, maybe once out of 20 times someone would answer when we called. For $700 per night One would think service would be higher end... Lots of drunk drunk drunk drunk loud loud loud kids. Food was good, priced obviously way too high. The on-site personal trainer was awesome. The cleaning staff were fantastic, nice, and so hard working. Unfortunately, someone robbed me according to management - and what staff member it was is a mystery. I ordered an item and it was shipped there but arrived in my room after I had left. I asked them to re-send it to me and they said "it disappeared." In the end, after about 6 weeks, they had another one sent to me and made good on it. But for the hassle, and the insane PRICE, never again. read more

When we told people we were going to Ruschmeyer's for dinner on Saturday night, people told us that the food was "good at best," "anorexic portions," "scene is great, food is meh." We decided to keep the reservation but came in with tempered expectations. Boy was everyone wrong... First, the restaurant is beautiful -- campy long light wood benches with plaid/camp green seat pads and metal chairs (still comfortable to sit in). Very adult summer camp mess hall. Lights were just right and even as the crowd was coming in to the venue to drink and party, the restaurant retained its atmosphere and we were able to hear each other speak, enjoy the scenery. Menu is split into "plates to share" (apps) and "entrees". Boyfriend and I split the shareable corn succotach to start. It was a very large portion, very shareable and probably best suited for three people -- there was that much. It was super tasty. Boyfriend got the monkfish as his main and it was delightful. The fish was well cooked and the green curry was the perfect spice level. I nibbled before dinner (after being told the food wasn't going to be good) so I just got the "shareable" plate of green beans, wax beans and sugar snap peas with mint and prosciutto as my main. It was so good. A light, cold salad of local vegetables tossed in a bit of oil/vinegar with fresh herbs and a few slices of proscuitto over the top. Sadly, I was too full to finish the whole thing. Wines by the glass were NYC-priced ($12/glass). Service was the best we'd seen in Montauk -- attentive, friendly. The staff had clearly been trained and our water glasses were always refilled for us. After dinner, we headed to the outdoor area with our last glass of wine from dinner, played a game or two of ping pong, lounged around the open air space and relaxed under the tree/light canopy -- beautiful. Good luck making a dinner reservation.... The Ruschmeyer's website states you can make a reservation up to one month in advance, so I called to make a reservation but then I was informed that's only for parties for 6+ and I would have to wait to book until a week prior. I waited until a week prior and called to make my reservation but they said they don't take dinner reservations over the phone (????) and I have to use the website. I tried booking on the website, but it was not working and didn't even allow me to select a date to make a reservation. So I informed the woman over the phone (who clearly didn't have the time of day to help and was trying to rush me off) and said it was because they were all booked up. Which I personally found hard to believe they would be booked for any time/day of the week through October for any size group. I was just trying to inform her that the website wasn't working properly in the case other guests were trying to also book but she just hung up on me. My friend also tried booking on behalf of the group and when she called they said that the restaurant doesn't have a phone number... so yeah, good luck trying to make a dinner reservation at Ruschemeyer's. I can't really give a full review on Ruschmeyer's because I only hung out in the Purgatory Bar for about an hour. I liked when we pulled up ... had visions of the Catskills resort in Dirty Dancing. My friends got there before me and were annoyed about the long line, so they split. We ended up having a drink or two at Ruschmeyers, where there was enough room to not feel claustrophobic. I liked the sand and we ended up chatting with some random guy who was on molly. Music was fine. Drinks were expensive. We left after our friends texted us about another place they found. The atmosphere and staff are the best part of this restaurant/bar. The outdoor "magic garden" is awesome- we could all use more outdoor spaces!! And the large property is beautiful. I especially love the indoor dancing in the "eel"! A place to "see and be seen" or actually not be seen-if that's what you're looking for... By dancing in the dark, small space, you're pretty close to your dancing neighbors and can easily blend/hide in the crowd. The bartenders are awesome, especially Andy, Edwin and Kyle. All very nice to look at, more so Kyle because I'm drawn to cute blondes with blue eyes, a good sense of humor and great personalities. It's so important in a bartender!!! I don't just want my cocktail thrown together sloppily and pushed my way, I want a friendly smile and a welcoming, funny intro line. Kyle is hysterical! The food is good too! We came here for going out on a Saturday night, end of May, and had an absolute blast! Everything about this bar just clicked: the gorgeous outdoor seating area with overhead lights, heat lamps and blankets if it gets a little chilly, the long winding bar inside that is very accessible and has cute and courteous bartenders, the spacious lounge area, and last but not least the dancing room with a great DJ. Everything you would want in a bar. I've been out to the Hamptons a few times now but am surprised we hadn't yet made it to Ruschmeyers! TOTAL SCAM. this used to be my favorite place to go out in Montauk and now it's THE.WORST. If you're not going to pay for a table, you will wait in line for HOURS, even if there are only 10 people in front of you. We got here at 9 pm on a Saturday night with 7 om with approx 15 people in front of us in line. LITERALLY did not take one step forward for 2 hours. They only let people in that were willing to buy a $3K table while a line of people just stood there, not ever getting in. People were leaving saying there was no one inside....so they had us stand in line JUST so it could look like a place people wanted to be. Unbelievable. Will never go back again. read more

For the past two summers my girlfriend & I have been taking a break from the city and have been heading out to Montauk, staying at Ruschmeyer's for a couple days. We have no complaints about this place. It is an excellent place to escape for a bit. It is in the best possible location in Montauk. 5 minutes to the beach, 5 minutes to Fort Pond Bay, and Fort Pond is right outside the grounds entry point. The hotel offers free bikes to rent, and also offers beach parking passes (being that parking can be limited at the busy beaches). The rooms are always very clean and tidy, as are the grounds surrounding the cabin-styled rooms. The staff is always friendly and extremely helpful with anything you may need. They have a complimentary breakfast which is delicious and just enough. We usually have a couple drinks at the bar, which gets crowded Thursday-Sunday, but a good crowded, being that people can hang out in the backyard area. Prices are fair. We've actually never ate at the restaurant so have nothing to report on that. Ruschmeyer's is a great place to unwind, relax, and enjoy life. We are very much looking forward to booking a summer 2016 stay with Ruschmeyer's this August! read more

BEST LOBSTER ROLL!!!! I'm on a serious summer time lobster roll kick and have tried the lobster roll at sole east (backyard), surf lodge, and sloppy tuna. No contest hands down the best. Huge chunks of lobster, buttered texas toast, not too much mayo. I'm in love. Had the burrata pizza which was good but nothing to write home about.... if you want to blow your mind stick to the white clam pizza (amazing, sounds weird and I was hesitant at first but trust me on this one) Ambiance and decor is hands down my favorite in Montauk. Amazing lobster rolls and excellent white clam pizza. The lobster roll had very large pieces of lobster and had very little mayo, and the bread roll itself was not too thick and was toasted to perfection. The clam pizza rivaled some of the best pizza I've had in New York City and was definitely the best clam pizza I've ever had. Service was a bit slow and the prices were a bit steep, which are the only reasons keeping me from giving this place 5 stars. Montauk in general is a pricey town though, so while a $26 lobster roll would seem absurd to most people it's actually not too far out of the ordinary for the area. I just adore this place and don't understand the bad reviews. There's so much character resembling camp and the hammocks and lanterns. Charming, welcoming and relaxing. My stay included free breakfast including frittata, yogurt, banana bread and coffee. The staff was welcoming and helpful. I got to rent a bike and cruise around town. The hammocks were peaceful. If this review could be one word: terrible. Service was bad. Food was horrendous and super overpriced. We ordered 7 apps, 11 entrees and 4 desserts. All were poor quality. Steaks were overcooked, burgers were cafeteria quality, the "short rib" was bland ground beef. And to top it all off: a REQUIRED 23.5% "service fee".
