Maybe I ordered poorly, but I was disappointed with the Times Square sandwich. Filled with turkey, smoked mozzarella, and pesto, the sandwich was actually quite plain and a slog to eat. I did not think the quality of the bread was particularly good. The overall balance was off with a lot of dry turkey, some cheese, and not enough pesto. While it was a large sandwich, I would stick with other Italian sandwich shops like Paisano's, Regina's, Parisi, or All'Antico Vinaio for an Italian sandwich. Russo's offers an array of homemade pastas and other imported Italian specialty items that may be worth returning for in the future.

Tiny store offering amazing fresh breads, Italian specialties, homemade pastas, and to go massive to-go sandwiches. The staff is quick and friendly. It's a small store that offers lots of great items!

Huge delicious sandwich! No wait for me, so the service was very quick. Freshly cut the prosciutto right in front of me. Around $18 for a huge sandwich, easily able to be shared between 2 people. They also have a variety of grocery items, pasta, sauce, etc. definitely recommend!

As an Italian store next to Veniero's, Russo's sandwich innards are quite dandy. Beautiful mounds of prosciutto and fresh mozzarella and a nice roasted red pepper mixture make up one of their several deli sandwiches. At $10, the price for this gigantic sandwich is a great deal, until it all comes apart for one reason, the bread. I will not be too critical on the bread, as mentioned above, this is more a small Italian market; not quite a sandwich shop. Russo's is like Rosario's; without pizza. It is a soft hero roll, with absolutely no crunch, but all chew. A good hero roll has that crunchy exterior and chewy interior; too much chew soaks up the whole sandwich and makes it far too messy to eat. It is a disappointment because the rest of the sandwich really tasted great. Recently, I learned there is a hero shop in Bensonhurst that is supposed to be the best in the city, Lioni's. I am not comparing Russo's to them, just suggesting how their bread should be. After all, that would have made this an awesome lunch deal. But this is what I have to work with. Oh well. *Sigh*

Delicious sandwiches and such fresh ingredients. Perfect to grab and eat at the park. One note: double check the number you're telling them and that it lines up with the sandwich you want. Online and in person doesn't match exactly.

Portion sizes are just sad now in 2025. This is a $15 sandwich!

Used to like this place but theyve gotten super stingy on the portion sizes lately. Compare my pic of the sandwich from today (1/18/25) to any of the pictures of previous years. And prices have gone up! Used to come here bc it was good bang for buck, but after paying $15 for this sandwich....I think I'm done. Sad

2nd Avenue Sandwich, we added Prosciutto, and it was delicious!

We've been coming to Russo's for years! Love the artichokes, mozz and the sausages! Today we got a sandwich for the first time and it was amazing!! Amazed the others said they didn't like the bread, that was something that stood out, totally different then a stale hero at a deli, it was like the texture of focaccia, soft, but firm and really delicious! We had fresh mozz, which is hand sliced and thick and juicy, but not wet, fried eggplant, roasted peppers and prosciutto. Big enough to share, but so good you might not want to! Highly recommend this Italian sandwich shop, there is nothing else like this in the neighborhood! LOVE!!!

Very good pasta and many good Italian products. The cheese and meats are affordable, I thought the pasta were a bit expensive ($6 for regular pasta and $12 for raviolis) but it really is good quality It's definitely not the place you go for every day food, but definitely the best place to go to prepare a delicious meal for a date night at home!!

Second Food stop in Guides of NY Tour of Little Italy. According to our guide, the place started in 1905. This place is known for their mozzarella and sausage. They also have many types of pasta, cookies, olives, herbs, cheese and meat. They know their stuff since the store is 100+ years old. I can only comment on the cheeses and sausage. We got to try 3 types of cheese: fresh mozzarella, smokey and forgot the last one. The sausage was smokey. Everything was good though I love fresh mozzarella so this is a 2 thumbs up!

Just a little bit happy. Love this place!

What can I say, other than what a find! Randomly walking last year, as I often do and stumbled across this gem!fresh mozzarella, sausages, fresh pasta, great selection of cheeses, and a staff that knows their product....all in a little bitty tiny space My girlfriend Tresa foundit for meagain this year. Her friend was having a Christmas party and I was able to get much that we needed. Including a great prosciutto!

Best local option for Italian specialty meats! Great Italian sandwiches. They have the works- fresh pastas, special cheeses, fresh mozz, fresh Italian bread. Everything is fresh and reasonably priced!

The "Caprese" sandwich prepared with fresh mozzarella, sun dried tomato, basil leaves and drizzled with olive oil.

Management was very accommodating on various levels - no need to describe the details as it's not relevant for an average review. know before you go - you literally have no other cheese but to have cheese in your pasta. Note that this is not a place for lactose intolerant kinds. I thought the concept was fresh pasta (which it is) but their ultimate menu items must include that cheese wheel. So fine. I figured they can at least give a non-cheese dish but rules are the rules. The place was packed on a weekend early evening. Lines were not forming (like it showed in the viral videos) but they were cooking up quite a bit at the front, because of carry out orders. Either way, on all angles - literally pretty much everything is ALL good and very positive. However, the one thing that needs to be addressed is that wheel made of cheese. Whoever created that chunk of a wheel, kudos to them/company. By golly - that gargantuan of a wheel was so filled with calories - I kid you not, it almost converted me to being lactose intolerant! So if you're about to have triple bypass the next day, I do not recommend this joint until you're fully healed. Yes, the flavors were good, but the cheesey elements were just too too rich. You also cannot tell them to lessen it, it's just set the way they cook the pasta within that barrel. Otherwise, the decor/ambience was nice, and tidy aspects really show through. Customer service was wonderful. Support your local businesses!

I was at this tasty Italian spot a while ago for dinner with one of my groups, where we shared a…read morebunch of dishes as per usual. The place wasn't super crowded, but there were eventually some people there. The place felt comfortable, and the service was friendly. To drink, I got the Blood Orange Negroni for $17 with Hendricks gin, Campari, sweet vermouth, fresh blood orange juice, and a slice of orange as garnish. I usually prefer Negronis that lack Campari as I find that liquor to be a bit too sweet, at least as far as amaro goes, but this was tasty and better balanced as the juice and gin helped to reduce the sweetness. I would recommend it. They gave us some fresh bread with some good olive oil to begin with, which was tasty. Our only appetizer was the $18 Fried Trio, listed as a tempting mix of crispy fried goat cheese w/ honey & chili oil, carbonara arancini, and capers croquettes. This also came with some tomato sauce for dipping, presumably primarily for the arancini. My preference of the bunch was the fried goat cheese due to the bit of funk and spice. I also liked the arancini as the texture was nice, while my least favorite were the croquettes. This was a nice mix, though perhaps a bit salty. For main dishes, we got two pastas, which were both $19, and two entrees. My favorite of the entrees easily was the Mushroom & White Truffle Lasagna with shiitake, porcini, and cremini blend of mushrooms, béchamel sauce, truffle ricotta, and fresh mozzarella on top. Many lesser spots would mix all these things and make the dish a bit too earthy or almost perfumy from the truffle and mushroom flavor, but not this one. There was just enough of the béchamel and cheese that it was pretty balanced. The pasta texture was nice also. This was rich but delicious, and easily worth the price. I wasn't as big a fan, though that is more because of a caveat, of the Hot Rigatoni Vodka With Guanciale & Sausage, listed as rigatoni pasta in a creamy, spicy vodka sauce, paired with rich guanciale and spicy sausage. I generally prefer guanciale in dishes like pasta alla gricia rather than in already spicier tomato sauces, as I tend to find that the flavor doesn't shine through as much. Otherwise, the pasta was cooked perfectly, and there was plenty of meat inside. We liked both of the mains also. A slight preference goes to the Flounder a la Francese for $26, with lightly battered flounder pan-fried to golden perfection and finished with a delicate white wine and lemon butter sauce. It was a large piece of fish, and it was indeed tender with a light batter. There were plenty of capers, but it wasn't too salty, and the bit of pasta on the side was perfectly cooked as well. I would recommend this. Our last entree was the $34 Short Ribs With Polenta, consisting of tender, slow-braised short ribs over a creamy bed of polenta. The texture of the polenta was nice, and the short ribs were indeed tender, but not too fatty. This was the plainest of the entrees, but it was still tasty. This was a tasty Italian spot with quality food at reasonable prices. I would definitely go back.

There were only two other tables with guests in the restaurant. The service was super quick. I got the pulled pork tortellini; the tangy, butter sauce was really good, but the tortellini portion was small. I preferred the rigatoni that my husband got. The bread that they bring to the table was fresh and delicious. I would come here again.

Was also thoughtful in handing us our orders correctly which was nice. For the food itself I heard good things and was hoping to love it more-- but I think I was slightly disappointed. The flavors aren't so bad overall and if you have a pasta itch it'll scratch. But I've tried other places better at a similar or even cheaper price point with protein added in. I got the "some like it hot" while my friend got "midnight desire" with burrata added in. I paid about 22 for each dish. Now for my thoughts - flavor for "some like it hot" was not bad, sauce was a slight bit watery for my liking. The spice was nice and I liked that part the most. Pasta was "OK". The ravioli was stuck together for some, filling was adequate but, I would've liked a little more. I don't want to sound harsh, but it was all around just an ok spot. Maybe it was just that day. Burrata added is nice, I took mine to go do sadly it was melted on top (recommend to pack the burrata separately for to go orders) - "midnight desire" is basically vodka and the flavor for this one was kind of odd for me. Not the normal vodka I am used to. I personally wouldn't really get it again. It wasn't a bad sauce, just not like vodka I know. Had a slight "bitter(?)" aftertaste from some seasoning I guess. I'm not a pasta connoisseur but I AM Italian and I've tasted a wide ranger of pastas lol-- I think yummy cheese pasta in Hell's Kitchen offers a similar concept, portion but is more filling, diverse options for adding and overall, slightly cheaper. Perhaps I'll give this place another try on another day..
