The pizza is decent - not the best I've ever had - but it's always so difficult ordering from here so we rarely do now. Their stock answer is that it always takes them 1-2 hours (at least) to make a pizza for takeout or delivery orders when better pizza places in the area deliver it hot to your door in significantly less than that. I've gone when it's nearly empty and they still require a ridiculously long wait preparation time. Last time we showed up after being notified our pizza was ready and they had more than an hour and 20 minutes prep time that they would need another hour to prepare (meanwhile, it was sitting right there). This place needs to prioritize customer service. Sorry but it doesn't take that long to make a pizza and pop it in the oven and I always walk by it and it's not slammed. When I want to treat myself, Rustique is one of the places I regularly order from. On Grubhub they never mess up the order and their ingredients taste fresh; pizza made from scratch just for you. The mozzarella is the fresh kind, not the packaged dry one. The tomato sauce has that subtle sweetness and tartness typical of tomatoes; they either make their own sauce or they must be using a high quality ready made sauce. They use fresh basil to top off their margherita pizza and you can add more toppings at an additional charge. However, they really nailed the margherita as it is. It is even better than the ones in Italy. The flavor is intense and real. Each slice fills you up with content, with joy, without the feeling that you ate junk food. It just doesn't taste like junk food. Doesn't have that "vibe" of the 99 cents "on the go" pizza slices that have been chilling on the counter for days. BYOB place which is smallish but charming on a corner with outdoor seating to boot. We went for two large pies: one red and white and another with veggies. As many other yelpers have also indicated, their crust is quite crisp and fresh. Loved their white pizza with ricotta cheese - it had character and flavor. The red margherita portion was just OK - the red marinara sauce tasted a tad bit raw. White was a clear winner this day. The veggie pie fared much better. The caramelized onions and roasted mushrooms were very good. Even the yuck-mushroom kids in our group ended up eating most of them! The house bread was warm and fluffy. I've never been more upset at a pizza place in my life. We ordered a large margherita pizza, a meatball parm hero, and the Kelly hero. They both arrived completely cold and so soggy they were INEDIBLE. There was so much balsamic on the Kelly Hero that it was leaking out of the foil and made a disaster of my kitchen. You can tell it was never heated because the mozz wasn't ever "melty". The meatballs on the meatball parm were stone cold in the middle. Not fresh, not hot, NOT GOOD. The pizza was a travesty. Really good option for pizza in Jersey City! I ordered half a Meat Lovers (meatball, sausage, and pepperoni) and half a Prosciutto di Parma and arugula (prosciutto di Parma, arugula, mozzarella, roasted garlic oil, shaved Parmesan). I picked up the pie so it was a little cold by the time I walked back, but even then, it was still really good. They didn't skimp on any of the ingredients. Plus, they have coupons! Really bad. I ordered an Italian sub on seamless and it was delivered very quickly. However, the sub was horrible. I did not enjoy it at all. The salami had a really bad smell and tasted rotten. It looked like they threw in an arugula salad between the bread and called it a day. The only cheese included was Parmesan cheese shavings - no provolone cheese. I was given another persons (Warren) order after the delivery person called to say he'd arrived (Sussex), but then arrived 7 minutes later after having to call the restaurant, only to have their phone calls go directly to his voicemail. Not sure why this place is still in business. My delivery was terrible. Their food is truly horrible. I have never tasted worse chicken wings and garlic bread. The wings had very weird texture, as if they were steamed instead of being fried or baked. Garlic bread was soaked in oil, mushy and dense. This is one of the better day to day pizzas in Jersey City. I have only ordered delivery and have had good experiences. On our most recent lazy night, we ordered for delivery and it came within 45 minutes. The pizza dough is very good and as usual there was a generous amount of toppings. They also don't you a ridiculous amount like some places for additional toppings. We also ordered some chicken tenders as an appetizer and they were much better than expected from a pizzeria. The chicken was nice and juicy and wasn't overly battered. I would definitely recommend Rustique for delivery. read more
