I've been going here since I was a kid and this place is great for groups of 2-4. The menu is huge and has so many drink, pastry, smoothie, veggie, dessert, and meat options. There's literally something here for everyone. Great place to catch up with a friend for lunch. Rush hours are busy but off hours are not. This location normally never has a wait. Attempted to try this place out today and the service (or should I say lack of) was the reason I won't ever eat here. My mother and I walked up to get a table for us and a friend. We weren't sure how it all worked so we stood by the door and a Hispanic man came up and asked if we preferred inside or outside we said outside but needed a table for three. He said our only option would be inside and he walked away to get utensils for other guests. Another group of older ladies came up and an older white lady (that was probably the owner with the attitude she had) opened the door and greeted them. The group of older ladies pointed that we were next and she looked my mother and I up and down and said to the ladies "come on in, you seat yourself. I used to go to their Fullerton location close to work. From a non-vegetarian standpoint, their healthy vegetarian options are much more enjoyable than other vegetarian restaurants I've been to. They have pretty unique rustic decor and reasonably priced food. One thing I don't like about Rutabegorz in general is slowness of their service. Fullerton location had slow servers and this location apparently does too. They are friendly and courteous enough, but I wish they responded a bit quicker to your requests. First time and last time I will ever go to this establishment again. They 1st brought me the wrong shake because the person that took the order didnt speak flaunt English, so the server had attitude towards me when I explained the shake was wrong. Then I received stink eye from the server and we we ignored for a very long time Finally the topper was when they brought me my dinner there was a hair in my chicken cacciatore and a hair that looked like a pubic hair on my cantaloupe Absolutely unacceptable and we were grossed out by the whole ordeal. Cute cafe in old town Tustin, servers are nice, and they have indoor or outdoor seatings. Their menu is extensive and they have a variety of salads, sandwiches, and pastas. We got the chicken garlic salad, which was good, and the chicken tortilla soup, which was ok. The soup was mostly vegetables and not enough chicken. Will be back to try other things on the menu! Service can be very slow as it gets very busy but this is a great little place in old tustin, worth the wait if you go there when it is busy! Family went to the Tustin location today after having a previous bad experience with a rude female waitress in the past. Today we decided to give them another shot. Food was delicious, but then as we were leaving Jocelyn the older grey haired waitress confronted us and said that our son broken her decorations. He had accidentally knocked a decoration half way off the window next to the booth. My husband easily fixed it. Her tone and approach is totally unacceptable towards customers espescially with young children. I can't recall of she was the same waitress from our previous trip but the nature of the confrontation leads me to believe so. I have been very pleasantly surprised the last few times my office has ordered lunch from this location. The portions are huge! Especially if you are ordering a salad, definitely shareable between 2-3 people. This last time I ordered the enchiladas and they were really good. I wasn't too much of a fan for the beans that came with them, but other than that it was a really hearty lunch. My favorite thing to order here is any of the sweets. Had dinner on the patio on 6/25. Patio is only open for dine-in for dinner. Staff cleaned tables and chairs between customers. We had to wait to be seated due to the limited seating, but we are understanding due to social distancing regulations. Only 4 people per party on the patio. All employees were wearing masks. Food of course was amazing as always! Only wished people picking up food were wearing masks before entering the restaurant. There were a few people without masks which was upsetting especially since they passed tables with customers. Reason I did not give a 5 star. Plenty of signs saying to wear masks and their protocols. I have visited this place several times. Staff is always pleasant and I can always count on good food. It can get crowed at times, but wait times tend to be short. I like to order the 49 cent deal. I recently had pumpkin humus with torilla chips and it was very tasty. I like to order the shrimp and avocado salad. It is super large, but oh so good. It goes well with balsamic dressing. Ambience: 5/5 Apparently this is part of a small chain, but it doesn't feel like it at all. I felt like I was just sitting in a friend's kitchen. Our waitress was very accommodating, allowing me to get the pesto without nuts on the sandwich. This was huge for me because I usually miss out on the wonderful flavor pesto adds to meals, but I was so happy to be able to enjoy it today! The pasta salad was also excellent, although I ate all of that and didn't get to take it home. The two others in our party got the chicken soup and the walnut salad with naan bread. Both said that their meals were excellent. We also got the barbecue bean dip to share, and I was pleasantly surprised by the subtle and delicious barbecue flavor. We did get some desserts to go, and I can personally vouch for the oatmeal, cranberry, and white chocolate cookie. I usually don't like oatmeal cookies because they're too dry for me, but this was the best oatmeal cookie I have ever had! Service: 5/5 Our server was fantastic! The food tasted really home-made, like I went to a mid west grandma's house to eat. It tastes wholesome, and filling. i dropped it a half star because of the price. These portions are deceptively small, I still left full. It comes with a rotini salad and quarter pickle. The soup was nice and hot, but still not sure where my tortillas were? I tried this place out with a friend who loved the name. I wasn't really sure what to get because they had A LOT of options, so I just pointed at something random on the seasonal specials menu. It turned out to be the ham and pear sandwich that came with a side of bbq chips. Okay presentation wise I had low hopes for the taste. The sandwich was cut into small pieces. The sandwich itself looked nothing special, like something I would make at home. I've seen better looking sandwiches at Corner Bakery. With the pricing at around $10 coupled the the slow service, I was ready to outright give this place 2 stars. But as soon as I took a bite I swear I was screwed. The ham and mustard were so smokey and savory, a perfect compliment with the nutty cheese and the sweetness of the caramelized onions and fruit. The apricot jam was the perfect touch of tasty with the crisp pear I was melting in ecstasy. The sandwich had the same flavor profile of a cheese board, which I absolutely loved. Each bite was amazing and simply super tasty. I know I'm super young so I haven't experienced the world yet, but that was probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever tasted. And it was surprisingly filling, for I didn't feel the need to finish the bag of bbq chips that came with the meal. My friend got the veggie burger, which he found pretty decent. If your curious, it's just a well basic but well executed burger with a bunch of fix-ins. The only reason why I'm knocking off a star was because it wait was ridiculously long, even for a bomb sandwich. I have to blame the system; having guests seat themselves just calls for waiters not to notice you until 20 minutes in. Because of their system, they don't apologize for your long waits since they don't notice how long you have waited. If they changed the system or if they improved on it so waiting problems would save me 40 minutes for a sandwich, then this place would be awesome. Great spot for a healthy lunch with some friends! Nestled in old town Tustin and easily accessible. Parking lot is right around the corner. This place does tend to get packed around lunch time, but the wait has never been that long based on my experience. I got the garlic chicken salad, which definitely hit the spot. The menu is extensive, and by that I mean, you may get overwhelmed and second guess your choice multiple times. It's ok, I'd be willing to guess that anything you go with will either be healthy or really good. I'd like to come back to try more of their dishes. I was craving the Garlic Chicken Salad from my usual spot in Fullerton but it's not opened on Sundays so I searched in maps and found they had other places. So I called and ordered a Garlic Chicken Salad from the Tustin Location with no crispy noodles and light carrots. What I got was just straight garbage. Paid extra for the cheese which there was barely any. There were no cucumbers and no carrots. I basically paid $15 for lettuce chicken and a sliver of avocado. Oh yeah and the candies walnuts tasted so burnt I couldn't even eat them. Definitely will not be returning here anytime soon. Ill stick to my location in Fullerton. read more

I normally do not like to write bad reviews, but this place is deserving of one. My friend and I went to the Tustin Rutabegorz and I was hoping to have a nice experience considering it was my first time there, she'd been there previously. As she was getting ready to sit down in the patio, the manager (Andra) came over and told us that if we were going to move the table, to be careful it doesn't hit the window. We hadn't even touched the table, my friend was pulling out the chair to sit down. So I told this Mgr that we didn't touch anything (meaning the table) and she proceeded to talk down to us and say that she saw my friend move the chair. WOW! Yeah, now she has gone from saying we were moving the table, to moving the chair, go figure. Well no duh, don't you normally have to pull out the chair to sit down? So we just said OK. We're not young people, we're actually seniors and at that moment, I felt like a kindergartener being talked to by the principal. Then we placed our order with our server Carrie, who was civil (not cordial), and I had ordered coffee. The entire time we were dining, she didn't really check on us, I had asked for extra napkins and she threw two napkins on the table, and I never got asked if I wanted a coffee refill - I even tried to stop our server twice, and could not get her to stop at our table even with saying "Excuse me" (she would just walk away). By the third time she came to our table, my friend stopped the server, and my friend asked me if I wanted more coffee, at that point, I was done with my meal so I said, "No, I'm good." I am not sure if the server stopped for my friend (who is "white" whereas I'm a Pacific Islander). I think this must be the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. I felt like they didn't want us there, I actually felt racist vibes and I don't feel that often but I know it when I see/feel it - maybe they thought we couldn't afford to pay for their crappy food? You also receive a cold pasta salad (bomb), a fruit slice & a pickle. If you get the tortilla soup it comes with crunchy tortillas to add. A very large menu and you can also get everything. I like the frozen mocha coffee because it has icecream and chocolate in it. Everything is all so good and it can be hit or miss. Service can be pretty slow and you seat yourself and sometimes you have to flag someone down after 10 mins of waiting. They have good desserts, nothing to die for. 2014 YELP 365 CHALLENGE - 138/365 I come to Rutas every so often with my boyfriend and his family. It's a cute small-town restaurant where I can imagine a lot of the city locals come to dine and enjoy their healthier options. They have three locations (Tustin, Fullerton, and Orange), but I have only gone to the Tustin restaurant. The restaurant has an almost country cottage feel to it. Everything is very wooden and old fashioned. There are two sections of the restaurant. Sometimes the second room is closed off for private parties and whatnot. I believe you seat yourself/choose your table. The guy who serves your beverages is usually really observant and serves your table soon after you are seated. Service is kinda hit and miss at Rutas. Some waitresses have been really good, other times (like during most recent visit) the service is really slow. There's one lady who is kinda forgetful and can't hear very well, which makes for a very slow dining experience. Rutas has a very widespread menu with all different types of dishes, from Mexican to sandwiches, to salads, to Italian, etc. It took me a couple of visits to finally find my favorite dish. My go-to is the garlic chicken pasta. It's so yummy and SUPER filling! My boyfriend loves their ham and pear sandwich, and his mom loves their salads. They also usually have a special dip/bread that changes every so often, and only costs 44 cents! Overall, Rutabegorz is a pretty cool restaurant and great for family dining. 4 stars! read more

Had been wanting to come here for a while now but for some reason, never quite made it. So one day when the gals decided to come here for lunch I was beside myself. I liked the dining room and how rustic it looks. Very casual. They have a monthly $1 special -- dip and chips -- it was okay, a little bland for me though. 2 in the party got sandwich wraps, I got the Cobb salad, and another got the quesadillas. The portions are good (but is reflected in the prices) and I know that my salad was pretty good -- well for 11 bucks it'd better be -- but my friend's quesadilla had an overabundance of cheese in it and the gals with the wraps also said that it was just ok. No one was jumping up for joy. I guess you can't really screw up a salad -- leaves, chicken, cheese, nothing really needs to be cooked, but rather, just thrown together, so if you screw that up, I think there is something super wrong with you. I think Rutabegorz has a good concept, it's just a little too pricey for everyday lunching, that's all. I also like my food with a lot more flavor than what is offered here. read more
