Full disclosure: Our granddaughter works as a hostess at the restaurant. That aside, our dinner was superb. My wife had the filet and I went with the cowboy ribeye. Our excellent server, Amanda, recommended it as "the restaurant's most flavorful" steak and was she ever right. I can't recall the first (or last) time I've had a steak when I haven't added salt and/or pepper. But not this time. The first juicy bite told me that the seasoning was absolutely perfect. We began our experience with the spicy shrimp appetizer. In fact, it really wasn't "spicy;" more like delicately delicious. And not filling. So it set up the rest of the meal very nicely. Our shared Caesar salad was served on chilled plates. We both agreed that it's the best Caesar we've ever had. Anywhere. Amanda knew the menu inside out and answered our questions thoroughly. Her service was very friendly and professional, but not the least bit obsequious. She delivered a wry sense of humor along with our food. Obviously, you don't go to a first-rate steakhouse looking for a bargain. Ruth's Chris is undeniably expensive. Yet in most ways the food, the service and the overall warmth of the staff more than met our high expectations. So in that regard Ruth's Chris was an excellent value. Oh, for the record we didn't have any drinks. So we were stone cold sober in making the above assessments! read more

I mean, what can I say? Is it what you would expect from a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse? Absolutely. Superb service with great quality food and drinks. That being said, I've had similar meals that tasted just as good or even better that cost 25-30% less (even in LA!) So do I have any complaints regarding the taste of the food? Nope! Do I have any complaints about the service? Heck no! Will I be back? Sure. Will I be happy paying the price? Mehhhhh. Customer service needs some work though I will say all issues I've escalated to Management they have resolved immediately. Overall the chain has changed a few things over the years and it seems to be for the good. Food is good and price makes sense for what it is. Had an 8:15 reservation, but we weren't seated til about 8:25, which would have been fine but we found out right before 9 that we had to be out of the restaurant by 10 and that would have been nice to know when we arrived. We waited about 20 minutes for our first round of cocktails, which I thought was ridiculous, especially given our newly found time limit on dinner. Our server Nathan was very nice, but a little unprofessional and a little untimely. I didn't expect our food to be auctioned off when it arrived at the table, since the last time I was at a Ruth's Chris, they knew which seat ordered what. And that's fine at a sit down deli restaurant where the total for a meal for 4 is $50, but this is not one of those restaurants and I expected the caliber of service to be much, much higher. The steak was very good! We got filets and salmon and it was the best restaurant salmon I've ever had in my life. We had the calamari for an appetizer and it was also the best calamari I've ever had at a restaurant. Our shared sides were the potatoes au gratin and they were cheesy and creamy and delicious. We got broccoli which was prepared very simply but absolutely perfectly and had a lot of flavor for such a simple side. We also got the corn which was mixed with some peppers and wasn't at all spicy but had a nice heat to balance out the sweetness of the corn. We ordered a bottle of the Avalon Cabernet Sauvignon and it was awful. I absolutely recommend that you don't order that wine. All in all it was a great meal but the overall service left a lot to be desired. Keep in mind that if you eat here, you gotta be out by 10 and last call is at 9:30. For our anniversary we bought new outfits and drove 2 hours to Ruth's Chris to celebrate our anniversary. We had never been there before. We had a reservation for 8 but got there early at 7. It was ok, we could wait. Meanwhile they were nonstop taking people in who said they did not have reservations. We THOUGHT there was supposed to be a dress code but clearly that was enforced. We decided to leave after the couple who walked up wearing what looked like street clothes, hoochie shorts with slides got in before us. Dress code where??? I'm not paying $100 a plate to see what I can see at any other restaurant!!! I NEVER dress up. I wanted it to be special and I felt like we were at Steak and Shake!!! Very disappointed!! Am I the only one that forgets the order of the name? Well, after this visit, my first, I will certainly remember it. I loved the separate spaces that make up this restaurant. On one side, there is a long bar with eye-catching lighting and traditional red tufted leather banquette and bar stools. On the other is a private room (one of several) that is enclosed by a pocket door. The back dining space is delineated by a display wall wine cellar, beautiful wall tiles (I want to replicate that in my home), and open wall divider to the bar that has a mid-century modern style. There were several solid perennial choices for appetizers. In the end, I went with the crab stack. Each layer of the stack had its own distinctive flavor from the mildly sweet and large lump crab meat, to the firm and fresh avocado chunks, to the sweet mango and spicy red onion, cucumber, and julienned red pepper mixture. Delicious separately and together. I had the 22oz Cowboy Ribeye, a cut I never tried before. The steak was cooked to medium-rare over 1800-degree to sear in juices, with only salt and pepper as seasoning, and is served on a 500-degree warmed plate. It was incredibly flavorful, despite the very simple ingredient list, with a crunchy crust. Of course, the steak itself was thick, tender and nicely marbled. I loved the lobster Mac and cheese side. With a third of a pound of lobster, this side could double as a meal. The dish was expertly seasoned, drawing out the sweetness of the lobster and the nuttiness of the creamy cheese. There was also an underlying taste of green chilies which added flavor without the fiery heat. I would return just for this side alone. For dessert, I went with the white chocolate bread pudding for a change of pace. While you may select one of the liqueur-infused crème anglaise sauces, you can also get all four to sample which is the route I took. They were all quite good but to my surprise, I preferred the Chambord (raspberry) flavor over the others: Grand Marnier (orange), Frangelico (hazelnut), and Tia Maria (coffee). Had dinner last night at the Ann Arbor Ruth's Chris. Was there with a group of 7 and we had a bunch of apps and all had entrees. I ordered a T-bone steak medium-rare. You would think that any steakhouse should be able to cook a steak medium-rare -- especially a nice steakhouse like Ruth's Chris. When our entrees were brought out, i could tell before cutting into my steak is was overcooked, but on cutting into it it was closer to medium-well than medium rare. Gimme a break. How does a "fancy" steakhouse not know how to cook a steak correctly? I considered just eating it anyway, but for $70, I should get the steak the way I wanted it -- so I sent the steak back. The waitress assured me it wouldn't take too long. Almost 20 minutes later, my new steak came out and was cooked just fine -- but everyone else was already done eating. No recompense was offered for sort of ruining the dinner for me, as I now had to eat while everyone else was done and kinda waiting for me -- I didn't even finish the steak because it was it got to be a little awkward with me eating and everyone else done. Pretty lame effort by Ruth's Chris. I will say I've been there for happy hour a bunch of times and everything has been great, so this was even more disappointing in that context. The appetizers were great -- tuna tartare, spicy shrimp, and shrimp cocktail. The service was also great--thanks to Jessica and also the bartender. read more

I have been wanting to try this place for years. I finally made it and I enjoyed the experience. The food is very pricey and the customer service was excellent. We started with the seafood tower, which I wanted to try as I have never had cold crab legs and lobster tails. This was delicious with extra large shrimp, lobster tail and claws, King crab and also crab meat with two dipping sauces. Once I had this, I was really too full to order my own meal so I shared a steak with my daughter. We had au gratin potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts with bacon. These were simply delicious. The steak was ok but could have used a little more salt to my liking. We added roasted mushrooms which were awesome. I could have just ordered that alone. I would like to go back and next time not order the tower so I can have more room to enjoy a meal. Just two of us and our bill was $209, so make sure u have money to spare when u go. A two star steakhouse charging 5 star prices. Average steak at best, same with service and atmosphere.

Reservation at 8:15 and told they are behind clearing tables so we can wait by the bar to have a drink and they will send a text when the table is ready. Bar is packed, so standing around waiting for another 15-20 minutes. Server was great, but as we are wrapping up appetizers we are told he accidentally hit cancel vs submit for our order and they JUST started the steaks. Stuff happens and he was good, so no worries. Steak arrives and ordered medium rare and was medium plus if not close to medium well. Based on the late time, getting us seated late, and messing up the order we did not have time to redo so sucked it up. Server right away by looking knew it was not MR and grabbed the manager. She gave the standard lip service on being sorry, but almost seemed like it was a waste of time to address and comped the appetizer. Mind you, we aren't free loaders, but have ate enough fine dining, that if they seat you late, get your food late, and screw up a $70 steak, they tend to comp the steak. Having a $300+ bill for two, with late seating and steak overcooked, comping the crab cakes was embarrassing. Thanks a ton for making us wait to pay for an overcooked steak! We tried to give them another chance after previous lackluster meals, but once again realized why we prefer if paying this type of money would rather go to Hyde Park. This place is really worth it. And that's saying a lot given that their prices are upwards of $50/60 per person. We've been here 3 times so far - twice for birthdays, and once for the "Is your name Chris?" deal of a BOGO petite filet. I am so thankful for my parents for choosing the absolutely best name in the world. (And for an additional meal, you can sometimes get discounted gift card deals at Costco...) The quality of meat is incredible - I've never had such tender meat, perfectly cooked. Everything other than the meat also tastes fresh with high quality ingredients - salads and sides, that is. Service has also been really good every time we've been - very considerate wait staff, who at one point both impressed and entertained us by struggling to use two spoons as tongs to plate our salads. If you like paying $64 for a NY Steak on a plate by itself, $14 for a baked potato or a side of French fries with mediocre rushed inattentive service, this is the place for you. Expect to pay an upfront deposit of $100 for a weekend reservation that they forgot to refund the night of our reservation and had to contact the Restaurant to finally get a slow refund.. I ordered an apple martini and it was really good. The atmosphere felt very Romantic. I was also happy to hear that have pepsi products too. I ordered an New York strip steak with an add on lobster tail with side of sweet potato casserole. The lobster tail was done perfect and tasted really exceptional with the butter. The steak was really good and done the way I like it. The steak was huge I couldn't eat it all. My husband got the rib eye steak along with Aug potatoes. Those were done perfectly and had this amazing cheddar cheese on them. Please take a look at the photos to see how big our steaks were. For dessert we got creme brûlée which was delicious. Dined in on New Years Eve with a group of 4. We made reservations ahead of time. Upon arrival, we were seated on the second floor with a nice view overlooking downtown Ann Arbor. Waitress was very attentive and we did not feel rushed at all. We ordered drinks...the lemon drop martini was delicious! We shared the calamari and veal ravioli for appetizers with the bread. Both were delicious with flavor, especially the ravioli sauce - outstanding! 2 of us ordered the petit filets, which were cooked exactly to our liking and were flavorful. Someone else ordered the larger portion filet which was also excellent. The other person ordered a New York strip which he said about 3 times during the meal how good it was. We all shared the shoe string fries, corn, and mashed potatoes. Sides are a decent size. Not a cheap meal by any means (paid almost $500) but definitely worth it for the service, atmosphere, and most importantly, the quality of the food. Pathetic service at this price point. The server did not know what beers were available, and she forgot one of the five drinks that were ordered. The forgotten person had to wait 20 minutes until they got their drink. Two of us had our steak orders reversed: I got his medium-well and he got my medium-rare. The sea bass entree was undercooked and inedible. The entire experience was like being at a very pricey Outback Steakhouse with slightly more refined decor, but also lit like a supermarket. We decided to revisit since our initial experience went so well, and we actually had the same server as before; she was still great. The food was still very good, maybe a little overlooked this time, but two things happened outside of the actual dining experience that bothered me: - I contacted the event planner to plan a private dinner, she said she'd e-mail me information, but after a week I didn't receive anything. So I called again, and the person I spoke with took my information and said that the event planner would call me directly the next day. She never called. It was for a very special occasion so this was extremely disappointing. - There are (or used to be) tables in the center of the restaurant with seats that look much more comfortable than those in the left-side dining area (they have arms, and appear to be a bit cushier). I asked a staff person why we hadn't been seated there in either of our visits, and they said it was an "overflow" area. The restaurant was about 20% occupied during our visits... The food was great, but the private dining thing sucked, it left a very bad taste (no pun intended). Not sure we'll be back, the Chop House is right around the corner. read more

We started with drinks, I ordered my usual easy Moscow mule which turned out to be a huge disappointment. I quickly switched to wine. We started with shrimp cocktail And lump crab cakes, both were delicious. I had the Chilean sea bass with a side of corn. My Sea bass was cooked to perfection. I enjoyed my meal. We finished with the lava cake. We went to celebrate a birthday and this was made known when I made the reservation. There was no extra ump that most high end restaurants usually do, a simple happy birthday on the desert we order? Nothing!!! This is our fourth time coming to this location since it was built. Something about the location is very underwhelming. I enjoyed my meal but this restaurant is not on the list of one of my favorites for Ann Arbor. Having been to many Ruth's Chris locations around the country, my expectations were high when I walked into the local outpost on S. Fourth Street. The decor inside is modern with clean lines and subtle lighting. The hostess who greeted us projected a genuine warmness that was a welcomed departure from what one can experience at many other downtown dining venues. Starting with a delicious dinner salad, I chose the mixed grill for my entree. It contained a small filet and roasted chicken breast. Both lived up to their billing. Ruth Fertel, who started this upscale chain more than 40 years ago, came through again with this recent addition to the A-squared dining scene. read more

My family took me here for an engagement celebration and it was very wowing. The service was very attentive. We enjoyed the Zingerman's bread very much. We shared the shrimp cocktail and the veal rigatoni. The dudes really liked the shrimp, and I was very found of the veal rigatoni. It's been awhile since I've had homemade ravioli! My dad was the only one who ordered steak, and he was oo-ing and ahh-ing the whole way through. He also ordered a side of a loaded baked potato, which he didn't touch that night, but enjoyed as a snack the next day and loved it. My stepmom had this really elegant looking salad which she thought was very tasty. My fiance had these crab cakes which he thought were pretty good though he said he's had better. I had a cheese stuffed chicken and it was magical. Literal magic. Each bite was beauty beyond measure. And then I had a bite of the pecan crusted mashed sweet potatoes. By the end of the meal, I was basically liking the bowl in front of all the classy customers. IT WAS DIVINE!!!! The staff brought us out a celebratory chocolate cheesecake, which was quite good. We also ordered bread pudding and key lime pie to split, because our eyes our bigger than our stomachs, which clearly had little room. The bread pudding was marvelous and spiced just right. The key lime pie was yummy, but I prefer my key lime pies a little less runny. I'm going to go here again and just order the side of pecan crusted mashed sweet potatoes. Maybe even 2. Bringing things before we asked. Today was my daughters birthday so I brought her here. We couldn't have picked a place better. We live close to Toledo Ohio and it killed me to come to the home of " _ichigan" , a side note while we were there a lady was trying to eat with her child who was being fussy as children do when there about 2 , I was happy to see the waitress for their table ask if it would be Ok to take care of him while she ate. They messed up my boyfriend's reservation and thought it was our anniversary (which was kinda cute - they scattered rose petals on our table) but it was more funny than stressful. We are in Ann Arbor for Family Weekend and long time customers of Ruth's Chris Steakhouses across the country. This experience was not what we are accustomed to with this restaurant. The bone in filet was WAY undercooked and the manager too off 50% and the waitress said when ordering bone in expect it very undercooked toward the bone. Absolutely not true. We live in Chicago and dine at other steakhouses bimonthly and have never had this problem. In addition, the crab cakes were way too salty. It was very tacky to take off 50% for a subpar product. Ruth's Chris is by far my favorite steakhouse in existence! My boyfriend took me to the one in Ann Arbor for my birthday yesterday and it was my first time at that location. The food was amazing as always, and the customer service was great. My only gripes are 1.) that my dipping trio didn't come out with my steak and with the steak sizzling on a five hundred degree plate, it continued to cook while I waited for the sauce which messed up the temperature I ordered (It was still delicious though, and I ate every bite.) 2.) at the Troy Michigan location, they used a 'crumb scrapper' to clean your bread crumbs from the table and they didn't do that here. (I know this is petty. I learned about 'fine dining' by dining at Ruth's Chris in Troy and that is one thing I always notice now.) 3.) The berries and sweet cream didn't have blackberries. I recall getting a beautiful assortment of blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries in this dessert, so perhaps blackberries are currently out of season or they changed their menu. I went to Ruth's Chris steakhouse for dinner last night. My splurging treat for me! They greeted me with a smile when I walked in, they seated me with a smile and the wait staff smiled. Guess what? I smiled, too! And the smiling never stopped. The 8 ounce filet mignon I devoured, was cooked to perfection. The depth of flavor and tenderness of that steak, melted in my mouth. Bread, mashed potatoes and asparagus sides were wonderful. I was so happy to be there. The service was excellent, attentive and fulfilled all my dining requests. The only other Ruth's Chris Steakhouse I have eaten at, was in San Francisco. There they do it old fashion style; big wood bar, big bold wooden pillars, wood paneled rooms & dark fabrics (as I recall ). The Ann Arbor address by contrast is hip, new, bright focal points, w/an intimate bar. There are dark textured walls & clean , white leather seating. Of course, white tablecloths & napkins are featured in both Ruth's Chris I have been fortunate to dine at. I wish I could dine like this nightly. That won't be happening soon.
