Ooooooh Sabor A Mi. It is with such sadness and heartbreaking disappointment that I must leave this review. Have you ever wanted a restaurant to work out sooooo bad that you can envision frequent visits with family and friends? That was definitely the case with my hubby and I. So here's the scenario. Hubbs and I are driving down Archibald on a Friday with friends and see a beautifully lit advertisement for Sabor A Mi. We immediately agreed that we MUST give it a try. The following Tuesday the hubbs and I go give it a try. A little disappointed that the menu was limited to only taco selections (Taco Tuesday) but pleasantly surprised with our choices. We had pork, asada, chicken, and potato tacos. We both had Cadillac Margaritas which were also good. Our waitress (didn't get her name) was friendly, helpful and overall great demeanor. We decided that it was definitely worth trying again on a night that offered the full menu. Fast forward 4 days to Saturday, 6pm for a party of 6. We were greeted by the same awesome waitress. Restaurant was less than 1/2 full. There were no tables set up for a party of 6 but the waitress was confident and assuring that she could make it work. HERE'S WERE EVERYTHING WENT SOUTH...QUICK!!! The OWNER of the business (in the picture below) bolted from behind the bar to tell us that she could NOT ACCOMODATE us and if we wanted to wait it would be over 30 minutes. Looking around at all of the empty tables, we were puzzled but agreed to wait none-the-less. We decided that we would have drinks at the bar while we waited. The owner decides that we cannot sit at the bar because we have children with us (the youngest people in our group were 29). We advised her that we were all of age to which she DEMANDED to see identifications. After showing i.d. the owner then decides there is not enough room for us at the bar either. She then had the audacity to tell us "you can wait outside for a table". And when we asked why outside, she replied "it is not a good look for you all to be waiting right here". What the heck lady??? This was one of the most blatant acts of racism that I've experienced in my 53 years. Mrs. Sabor A Mi, we are all productive, positive, kind individuals that went to your establishment to celebrate a birthday. Your disparate treatment towards our group was unwarranted, distasteful, and flat out discriminatory!!! You turned away 2 senior citizens, 2 mentally disabled women, law enforcement, nurses, volunteers.......who also happen to be LONG-TERM residents of the city that you chose to place your business. The only thing good at this place was the mariachi. The menu is small and limited. Very few options. Hard shell taco was salty, and the meat tasted cheap. Green chicken enchiladas were dry and flavorless. Guacamole had roasted pumpkin seeds on top, which I had never seen before and could have done without.If you come here for mariachi and drinks, you're fine. This is a hidden gem. The food was great, music/atmosphere was very welcoming and the drinks were "Bomb." You have to try their horchata margarita. We ordered the camarones al mojo de ajo, delicious. The server accidentally brought out camarones a la diabla and instead of tossing the wrong shrimp she left them at the table for us to eat and brought me the correct shrimp. Warning: the camarones a la diabla are spicy, not burning hot, just have a good kick to them. Pros: great place, with amazing atmosphere, great drinks, great selection of tequilas if you love sipping on good tequilas, live music on Fridays (had a mariachi band today), owner is amazing - we did not have a reservation but she welcomed up and got us a table right away, clean place, open for dine in, staff wears masks, great menu, have not seen cochinita pabil in any mexican restaurants in the area and the dish was just great, the chef (Liz) is amazing!!!, everything we had today was fresh tasting, great flavors, and just hands down best in the neighborhood. Lovely owner Martha, who walks around and makes sure everything is great and servers always check up on you. Cons: place was really busy so if you're not comfortable with crowds in this time I would definitely recommend ordering take out. Entrees are pricy compared to the competitors around the area but it's worth the money because freshness can't be matched. Walking into Sabor A Mi, you immediately get the sense that this is no ordinary "beans, sour cream, cheese, and any meat you want" Mexican restaurant. The decor is eclectic, and each place is set with a gorgeous speckled blue charger plate ... and a real, live, appropriately sized red wine glass! Perusing the menu, one sees a nota bene that indicates "Chips and Salsa? We have them, if you really want them. $1.50". I'm glad that they don't rely on the time tested formula of filling you up with stale chips and watery salsa, so that you think you've gotten a great bargain. We started with red and white sangria (you can get a "flight" of red, white and rose for the same price as a full glass of any). Both were delightful; the base wine had backbone, and was well complemented by the fruit juices and marinated fruit pieces. Since it was "Botana Tuesday", we made a meal of $5 appetizers. The jalapeño rellenos were similar to jalapeño poppers, but dressed with a creamy green sauce and a fresh made pico de gallo. Hot, crispy, cheesy deliciousness. The trio of mini sopes were awesome; my fave was the chicken mole (gosh, do I love a good mole!). The esquites cocktail was sweet, salty, fresh and yummy. The corn kernels were plump and juicy. The trio of tamales was excellent; my fave was the pork with salsa verde. Finally, we had empanadas; one chicken and one beef. The pastry was light and flaky, and the fillings were juicy and well seasoned. We left pleasantly full, and the bill for 5 dishes plus two drinks barely cracked $40. Service was efficient and incredibly pleasant. We can't wait to go back and try the dinner portions. read more

My husband and I ate at Sabor A Mi Grill for the first time this weekend. The ambiance was great and there was live mariachi music on Friday. We sat at the bar and started with the jalapeño poppers appetizer. They were awesome. I had a few Cadillac margaritas with raspberry chambord and they went down, far too easy. I had the raviolis and they were delicious. I would definitely order it again. My husband ordered the chicken fajitas and was disappointed in the small amount of chicken on the plate. The dish itself was very good, but amount of chicken was skimpy. The chili relleno was ordered by the couple sitting next to us and it was huge. We definitely want to go back and try it. One of the best Mexican restaurants I've been to in a long time! My family is from Yucatán and we few up eating cochinita. We've tried others that try to imitate the flavor and no luck. This place is right on! It is up there with wheat my parents and relatives in Mexico make. The chef puts the extra time and care into making sure it is the best and it shows. Hand made tortillas are the cherry on top. Their rice is a white rice with nopales and corn, so tasty. We had a party of 12 and the waitress did an amazing job art sing to us. Love that she was super organized and did not hesitate to separate our checks. She was helpful and attentive to all of us. Had one of their summer drinks, horchata martini ... it was the bomb. Sabor A Mi opened its doors on 2/3/2018 and I originally wanted to come to the soft opening but wasn't feeling well. I really wanted to try this place. I got my bonus and raise at work so decided to try Sabor A Mi for the first time for a small celebration. My husband and I stopped in on the way home from work. I knew ahead of time that this establishment was more on the upscale end compared to your average Mexican restaurant. They are located in the same plaza as Souplantation. As soon as I walked through the doors, I loved the decor; nice and bright with textures and fixtures. Each table had it's own purse/coat hook? Photos included! Like some of the other reviews mentioned, they don't start you with chips and salsa, but we did get a couple mini appetizers on the house. This amuses me. I don't know what it is.....but while we were there my husband was ALSO questioning why there was no chips & salsa (That is his favorite part of coming to a Mexican restaurant LOL) . The table we sat at was set for a party of 4, and they did not take away the extra plate settings. After our server dropped off our appetizers, she didn't give us any napkins and my husband had to get up to ask her for some. We were the only table in the restaurant by the way. For our entrees, I ordered the Salmon en salsa de Jamaica (grilled salmon served on a cedar plank and mango pico de gallo) and my husband ordered the Cochinita Pibil (slow cooked pork loin) . Unlike his younger days, my husband can't eat anything spicy anymore so he asked our servier if the pork was spicy and she said it was not. I also told her to put in our dessert order; Creme Brulee Trio. The entrees are around the $15-18 range. The Cochinita Pibil turned out to be quite spicy unlike what our server told us. I gave my husband half of my salmon. She dropped off some tortillas and told us they were hand-made, but we saw it was from a bag. Chef Hart came to our table personally to apologize and had to correct our server and said that the tortillas were pre-made, but that freshly made ones would be out soon. We did not get the fresh tortillas and so we received a free dessert (Capirotada - bread pudding served with dulce de leche, vanilla ice cream and mazapan). The bread pudding was absolutely delicious so I had to cancel my order for the Creme Brulee Trio. Overall, not a flawless experience and wish that our server knew the menu better and there's room for improvement but from what I sampled I really like the food; lots of potential. I may have to return next time for a second attempt to try to Creme Brulee Trio. read more

Beautiful atmosphere and not your average menu. Everything was fresh from the salsa, conchinita pibil to my Cadillac margarita.
