I was really excited to try this place because of all the reviews and tasty looking pictures! However, the real life experience fell short for me. I ordered the Chilaquiles Divorciados because everybody here said it was a must try. The green salsa had a overwhelmingly sour taste to it with no heat. The entire dish lacked in any flavor or spicy whatsoever. I thought adding beef fajita would have brought some flavor to this dish, but I was sadly mistaken. The prickly pear margarita that I ordered was refreshing, fabulous, and not too sweet. This restaurant does not accept reservations, the parking situation is a nightmare, and the wait is gonna be 30 plus minutes during brunch. The server and the manager were very nice and took the food off the ticket. I didn't have enough time to replace the meal, so I chose not to. I appreciate that they attempted to make it up to me. Overall, based on all the other cons, the experience wasn't enough to get me to return. In this day and age, there are plenty of reservation systems you can use to help manage the wait time. read more

Sabor took over the space in Olmos Park recently vacated by Tribeca. It's a nice looking venue but wasn't a fan of Tribeca so was happy to see a new eatery going in here. Overall the experience was good and food was fine. However, had some service issues that detracted from the evening. First, they do have good salsa which is important to me. I'm not a fan of the tortilla chips they buy but nothing to complain about. We also ordered the queso to start. It's the 100% synthetic cheese goo without any other flavors added so didn't enjoy it much. We doused it with their salsa and mixed it in to enhance it. I ordered a margarita without the sweet&sour crud and Tahin on the rim instead of plain salt. It was pretty good. I ordered a second one "the same" and it didn't come out that way. When I asked for it to be remade he wanted to first take the one he brought. I told him no and bring my new one first as my food was now here and wanted something to enjoy with it in the interim. Especially considering how slowly the first two had arrived, which was surprising given how slow it was there. The real service issue were the dinner entrees. My plate came out before my son's. It would take at least another 10-15m for his to come out. That's never acceptable. And even worse is that mine wasn't even hot. Luke warm at best but the Asado de Puerco had a good flavor. His Chile Relleno was super cheesy, and he enjoyed it a lot. The entrees were served with beans and rice. The beans were quite tasty, well seasoned with a bit of smokiness. The rice was bland and overly soft. We'll go back but I'm hoping for a better experience next time. read more

I wish I knew about the BYOB so we could make our own mimosas to go along with the great food We ordered the pecan pancakes which were very fluffy and delicious, the chipotle enchiladas were also great. I got the chilaquiles which were good but my favorite ones are still at guajillos the coffee is also scrumptious but the waffles were just ok compared to the pancakes! Holy smokes... so I have been looking at this place for a few weeks as they had Chilaquiles that looked promising. Two of my favorite things that I'm a snob on is Chilaquiles and Coffee. Ok I'm a snob on wine too and water... don't get me started that I would rather die in Texas heat than drink Dasani at Six Flags.... So first off I'm an idiot and was laying in bed when I looked up directions and half asleep so I went to the wrong Sabor. I got the "Lucy you've got some 'splaning to do" look from the bf. So after double checking I realized that I was at the wrong Sabor restaurant. So we went another mile and found where I was supposed to go. Ah! So the coffee was legit good black coffee. No folgers here, folks. However one bathroom kinda sucks for those not use to this type of coffee (glad I'm used to it :) So as I'm recently divorced I decided that the Chilaquiles divociados was a perfect choice for me. You pick any two sauces. I picked Bravos (habenero sauce) and Verdes (green tomatillo) I'll label this the Sweet and Heat. Bravos isn't hot until you eat more. Like Thai food. Pablo our waiter told me it was his favorite! Way to go Pablo! So while waiting on food I was arguing about Chilaquiles with the bf. (He should know better than to argue with a HANGRY Chilaquiles lover) So I looked up my last meal on earth which is Chilaquiles at Tortillaria in St. Louis. I found out they were closed. *I started choking up almost in tears. "It's ok baby, listen your Chilaquiles are almost done.... don't cry. Not the ugly cry..." So I must of made that face, but I cheered up when I seen their version. So it's my second favorite Chilaquiles on this earth, at least until I stop grieving for Tortillaria. read more

We finally tried them as we do live just down the street. It took us too long. We went for lunch today. The word is out; there was about a 20-minute wait. Once inside, service is awesome. The brother and sister owners are right in the thick of things with their staff. They help with seating, chips, drink refills. You can see that they really care. We ordered the enchiladas Aztecas and the picadillo chile relleno. Also, the guacamole. The guacamole is a star. It is obviously prepared when ordered and not scooped out of some pre-made bucket of guacamole. So fresh tasting with chunks of onion, tomato, and jalapeño and a touch of lemon. A large portion served on a bed of shredded lettuce with chips. The relleno was good, not overly flavorful, but still good. The husband appeared to enjoy his enchiladas. The other star again, is the service- attentive and thorough. My only other thought is that the two-seater tables along the front wall may be a little too tight. Removing one of them would give the rest of us more room and not pull back our chairs into the next table. But do go there. read more

I had the opportunity to eat today at Sabor. This restaurant serves authentic Mexican food! The staff is super friendly and attentive. I'm very particular about Chilaquiles! I have yet to find a restaurant that makes it how they make them in Mexico. That ended today. Sabor's chilaquiles are done right! The tortillas are crispy, the sauce has the perfect heat ( I ordered the verdes), added chicken and two sunny side eggs. The best chilaquiles I have had! My daughter ordered the enchiladas en chipotle. She is no into spicy foods but the sauce had the right kick. They were cheesy, the chicken was juicy and the beans were very tasty. You can tell they are freshly made. My son ordered the banana waffles. The waffles were fluffy and the syrup was not overly sweet. I love the ambiance, it makes you feel like you are eating at grandmas house. Sabor definetly have sabor! I cannot recommend this enough. It's fantastic. read more

Where do I start?! I saw a previous yelper who stated they didn't want to rate the location so they could keep it a secret. I felt the same way, but needed to share. Hands down one of the best restaurants I've been to in San Antonio. The place is a bit small, but there are a few tables outside . The service is great and very attentive. The food is delicious. Their menu had so many choices that we couldn't decide on what to eat. Their prices are reasonable. Authentic Mexican food that reminds me of my grandmothers cooking back in Mexico. Had a "to much fun" at ACL last night.... needed a great pick me up brunch to bring me back to life. Found this place on yelp and wow! Had a levanta muertos, this was perfect drink. Lime, topo Chico, and modelo especial. Brought me back from the dead for sure, then my stomach got the amazing meal it needed. This place is as good as it gets. It is my go-to Mexican food. I live much closer to other places (cough panchitos cough blanco cafe cough a million others) and I would still happily drive twice as far to get to Sabor every. single. time. I put this place on par with La Fonda, but more accessible and less pretentious. The atmosphere is intimate, a bit secluded, but completely comfortable. Our first visit was in made in search of cheese enchiladas (I had just found out I'm pregnant and well I had a craving). Sabor did not disappoint. In fact, my expectations were blown out of the water. I bragged and bragged to my fam that I had found the best cheese enchiladas in the city. Finally they came out of their Stone Oak bubble to try them and they were equally impressed, my papa especially who is picky and eccentric! (Also we broke the news to them about expecting their first grandchild and the whole restaurant celebrated with us.) 100% try the chocoflan and tres leches! I don't know of another restaurant I can say this about, but I have had all the enchiladas on the menu, they are ALL fantastic. Shout out to the MOLE!!! My husband loves all the tacos - al pastor, asada, you name it. My life changes forever when we discovered they SERVE BREAKFAST. (Why had we never flipped the menu over?!?!?!) The chilaquiles divorciados are a game changer. I've had just about every combination under the sun, but my fav is half mole, half verde. They top it with a light crema fresca and delectable red onion slices that are a surprise and such a treat. Like my tummy is growling just thinking about it. So far, I've only had with chicken bc preggos cant eat anything less than fully cooked eggs (WTF RIGHT?) but I can't wait til this baby is outta me and I can taste the perfect runny eggs slithering together with the salsa and chips. OMG YALL. BTW the salsa they give you when you're waiting to eat is SO. FREAKING. GOOD. We always go thru at least two bowls. The servers here are also the sweetest. They are personable and they remember you. Very accommodating and attentive. My final point will be, IMO the most important... the beans. I always judge a place on their refritos. The beans and rice are better at El Chapperal. As I said, the food was good and prepared well, but in our opinion, it fell short of the Yelp 5 stars. Chilaquiles verdes are tricky because tomatillo can be sour and difficult to cook with. The receptionist took our temperature as we arrived, which made me feel at ease and certain everything is care for. We chose the outside area, which was very nice for this time of the year. The waitress was very kind and she made sure we were taken care of. The coffee was delicious by the way. The sizes were perfect as well. Tried this restaurant on 8/9/19 for my wife's bday. It was recommended to us by wife's friend so we decide to give it a shot.Showed up and were immediately greeted and seated.The place is kinda small but it's not uncomfortable,we were attended right away and brought out chips and salsa.. The chicken strips on the waffle were sub par because they are already pre-breaded and then fried, I prefer freshly battered chicken tenders. Steer away from queso. Decided to try this place out after reading the reviews. I was looking for a place that served chilaquiles and so many reviewers were right about the food! I sat at the bar and Jessie was the bartender that took care of me. As busy as they were, she was still always super friendly and checked in to make sure I didn't need anything. The chilaquiles were out of this world. You get to choose two different salsas for the chilaquiles: Salsa Verde, Salsa Roja, and Mole. I ordered the Salsa verde which were spicy enough to make me sweat. I don't mind that level of spiciness and just sipped my delicious Bloody Mary to try to cool down my mouth. Whatever starts an almost cult following in a small 10 table dark cozy cafe, small bar with a little front porch defies explanation, but happens...we've all seen it and have been attracted to it!
