I am really disappointed in this place , I ordered two tortas . My total was over $14 dollars for two tortas , wow!! They were priced @ $4.99 each!! The waitress/cashier charged me 18 % tax . She gave herself a $3.05 tip without my knowledge and I was not informed at this point. In addition , with lack of my knowledge , I left a tip for her! Until I read the receipt! We were in a group of 4 and everyone else was charged the same amount of high taxes plus tip for herself! I really wish I knew her name , but she has a strong spanish accent! I don't think this is right, it felt like a scam!! I will never go back to this Restaurant , you lost my business with this shady kind of transaction this should be a choice and you should inform the customer your making your own charge!! I love this restaurant! We've been coming here for the past 8 years since we discovered it! And every time we dine here whether for breakfast or for lunch our visit here is always marvelous! Staff is extremely friendly and food is delicious! My favorite is their tortas and shakes! Their tortas are delicious! Especially their Hawaiian torta which is the main reason I dine her! The torta has delicious melted cheese, ham and pineapple! The bread is soft and delicious! As for their shakes, the names of the shakes are hilarious! Named after famous artists, with the Luis Miguel being my favorite! Yumm! Overall, this place is fantastic! The restaurant is a bit small but has ample seating! A wonderful mistake I read my work calendar wrong and headed to the wrong appointment yesterday around 11am. Well, I discovered my error too late. What's a man to do? Try a mom and pop restaurant in the area for lunch! Super tasty lunch special with free warm tortilla chips and salsa. $5.99 plus tax bought me a crispy taco plate and tea. Now that's a bargain! The owners appreciated my business and I enjoyed every bite! The place began to fill up as I was finishing my meal. People know good food and will return like I will as well. Who did I see? Every time I try something new from here, my mind is blown. All the things I have tried are sooo good, fairly priced, and they are brought to us quickly. The first thing I took a gamble on was the barbacoa, and boy am I sure glad I did! The combo comes with tortillas, limes, cilantro, and onion already, so there's no need to ask! Mind readers, much? This is easily my new go-to place for Mexican food. The people are amazing and the food is even better, I've never been let down here.

Every time you walk in this restaurant you'll feel like Norm in an episode of "Cheers." The owners and staff greet everyone with such warmth. The food is excellent and well priced too. The menudo and barbacoa are the best in all of SA. The migas verdes are also an excellent choice. I look forward to going here every Sunday after mass! I grew up in San Antonio and am amazed now when I visit that so many of the Mexican restaurants are so bad. Not so Sabor de Mexico! This wonderful little spot is a throwback to those earlier times when Tex-Mex hadn't yet entered the vernacular and Mexican food was served in little hole in the wall restaurants in strip malls. Simple and clean dining room, excellent freshly prepared food, nice friendly waitresses and very reasonable prices. We eat here at least twice a week, even though it's a bit of a drive. We pass by a bewildering array of other Mexican restaurants on Perrin Beitel and Austin Highway to get here. It's the best one. read more

We were excited to try this place, but left extremely disappointed. It smelled amazing and it looked to have all the makings of a fantastic hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant. It took half an hour from the time we were seated to the time a waitress noticed us and took our order and the food took a long time to get to our table. My dining partner ordered the machado plate (eggs with beef, refried beans, and potatoes). The eggs were very mealy, beans tasted like they were from a can, and the potatoes came out cold and did not seem to be homemade either. My street tacos were alright - the flavor was great but the meat was extremely grissley and chewy. The redeeming factor was the flour tortillas on the side, although we were only given one each while the menu said our orders came with two. There are lots of great Mexican restaurants on Austin Highway and I'm kicking myself for choosing this place. read more

Freshly prepared plates (no heat lamps!) in the friendliest family owned little place around. We've been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. The owners are the cooks and they greet everyone with a cheerful 'hello'. Tortillas are wonderful and they use real cheese- the three nearest restaurants don't. We've moved a bit farther away but still sneak over at least twice a week. Their pico de gallo is always fresh and they have excellent hot sauces. There are 18 mexican restaurants on Austin Hwy and we choose Sabor de Mexico! read more

First off, let me say, reheated flour tortillas. Either that, or it is made by the flour tortilla fast mix that you only add water to, and they over cooked the tortillas. Either way, I'm sorry but, NO! If you've read my reviews for Mexican restaurants, you'll know one of my biggest pet peeves is not having truly hand made tortillas. Using a pre mix, or reheating them, or using bought tortillas, is just not the same. That being said, the beans in the bean and cheese taco tasted "different". I don't wanna use the word weird, but they definitely were different. Not sure what the flavor in them was, but I know my Mexican food, and something was definitely off about the beans. Apart from those two things, they got my order wrong. Staff was not super serviceable, one started taking my order, halfway thru, I look down and when I looked up, it was a different girl and the other one was no where to be found! Weird since the kitchen is clearly visible from the counter where you order and pay. That girl that finished taking my order and charged me, something was a little off about her. I'm not judging, just not great customer service at all. I didn't like the taste of the potato and egg, (which wasn't mixed by the way. It was an egg cooked and they thru in some potatoes. Not the same thing.) They gave me 1 salsa for 6 tacos! Come on, SERIOUSLY! All in all, this just wasn't their day today. I will definitely go next door next time, like I usually do, I just thought I would give this place a shot. Sorry, but they fell way short on my visit. read more

I have lived in San Antonio all my life; eaten at so many taco places, I can't count them. I ordered three chorizo and bean tacos. Simple order. Tacos arrive and I open them, to put some chile sauce on them, and there's no chorizo on them. I call the waitress and ask if they forgot to put the chorizo on them. She responds, "No, it's there. Don't you see it?" That's a question you ask of someone trying to find Waldo, not chorizo on a taco. I said, "No, I don't see it." She then says, "Well, that's the way we make them here." I figure, oh well, I'll eat them anyway. As soon as I tasted the beans, I knew I was not going to be able to finish these. They were bad. I don't know why, maybe old, who knows. I left everything, coffee, tacos, everything. I was charged anyway. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

Great little restaurant! The food is freshly prepared and the staff is cheerful- a big "hello" from the owner every time I walk in. I highly recommend their lunch menu. I'm sorry but this place was horrible. I went in with my family and after about 10 minutes of sitting down we finally get a waitress to take our order, mind you there was only one other table. Then she got our drink order wrong, there was 10 of us so we understood maybe it may have been a little difficult so we didn't get upset. Then from when the first plate came out to the last plate it was a total of 30 minutes. We went in as a family and wanted to eat as one, not sit and watch each other eat. Then once the food did come out the rice was very cold, the refried beans tasted as if they came right out of the can and the quesadillas looked like a taco filled with cheese with a sliver of chicken. The waitress afterwards did not come back to the table to ask how anything was, and to top it off I saw another waitress pop open a beer in the back, as if no one was watching. I don't understand how this place got a 4.5 star rating. If there was a way to put 0 stars I would. read more

Very clean dining room and friendly folks running it - a family run place with lots of repeat customers and everybody knew everybody :-) The service was great - she was right there but not obtrusive. Unfortunately the food, while hot and served quickly, was kind of . . . . . average??? Barbacoa was good but not great. Potatos were very awful - frozen or dried and pretty much tasteless. Refried beans . . . again, average at best. My wife enjoyed her chorizo and eggs but didn't rave about them. The tortillas were the exception - excellent!! Prices were great, but . . . .the food wasn't. We won't return here. read more
