Passed by this place so many times and didn't think of going until I read the reviews. Everything we ordered was great, as was the service. Breakfast burrito was huge, I can only eat half and the other half warmed up nicely the next day. The taquitos were packed full of chicken, and the chile relleno sauce was delish. Chipa and salsa was good but perhaps a bit heavy on the garlic. I love the beans they use here, so creamy and full of flavor. CHICKEN TAQUITOS: I love taquitos/flautas - it's extremely crispy and the extra guac topping is a nice touch. The sad part? The chicken was quite dry. I had to drench it in their green salsa to liven it up. CALIFORNIA BURRITO: Totally worth it, delicious steak, good fillings, large portion. Only downside was the fries were quite soggy - I've had California Burritos. before, the fries should be crispy. SABROSO! BEEF GUISADO: Packed with flavor, in a smoky sauce. The tortillas that came with were a tad cold, but otherwise good plate. It comes with rice and beans that I really enjoyed. HORCHATA: It was good at first, but this weird cinnamon taste started filling in halfway through the drink. Yes, I understand Horchata can or should have cinnamon but this one was awful. Always delicious. Love their homemade salsa and chips. Can't go wrong with the shrimp salad and tacos. They are always friendly and the price is fair. My boyfriend likes their enchiladas. First time here tonight! Went with 2 other friends of mine and we were all left sooo happy. We were the only people sitting in the restaurant but a few people came in for pick up orders during the time we were dining in. My friends got tacos and a torta and I got the red pozole. I had been craving pozole (pork) and this more certainly satisfied!! Not too spicy (maybe that's just me though because I can handle spicy) and it came with avocado, radishes, cabbage, lime, etc on the side. Mmm. We were immediately given tortilla chips with three different house made salsas - the habenero was amazing. This local restaurant truly makes you feel like you're dining with the Mexican grandpa that you never had!! The food was delicious and our server was just so kind, caring, and attentive. He gave us excellent recommendations and noticed that we are first time diners. The entire time, my friend and I felt like we were part of his family. The food was absolutely delicious too - some of the best Mexican food I've had in chicago (that's saying a lot since I'm from Texas). I highly recommend anything with carne asada - it was just so good. We also got served free dessert at the end. I forget what it's called but see the photo attached. It was probably the best Mexican style dessert I've had in my life. As a side note, this is also the first Mexican restaurant where the salsa isn't trying to kill you! Went here on a Sunday afternoon and it was a full house. Excellent service, staff were very kind and joyful, and they do not shy away from the amount of food they give you. Here's our order: Sabroso beans- 10/10, soft, flavorful, chorizo was perfect Smothered chicken burrito with red sauce- 9/10 California burrito- 9/10 Our server gave us complimentary dessert and it was DELICIOUS! I have finally found a place in Chicago that resembles home for a decent price point. I checked Sabroso's out today, and I will absolutely be back. I love bean and cheese burritos, and Sabroso's has an excellent bean and cheese burrito for $10. The beans and cheese were creamy, and they put in a red salsa that was garlicky and delicious. The burrito itself was pretty large and filling. The inside of the store was small, nothing fancy but it doesn't need to be. I will absolutely return for all my mexican food needs. read more

We ordered take out a couple months ago and liked it so decided to go back in person! They have outdoor seating and allow dogs so we sat outside and brought ours. The food overall is pretty good. I got the mole enchiladas. The mole was good as was the al pastor meat. The chicken was ok, a bit dry. The refried beans were really tasty. My husband got the California burrito which was also quite good. Skip the guacamole here, it was underwhelming. Overall a good find and nice brunch! Probably not something you'd normally see on a standard Mexican place's menu but it was so rich in flavor, the dipping soup for the tacos you could tell was made with homemade beef broth. The gentleman, Raul, who waited on us was friendly and happy we were there. Looks like they have a big takeout business, we dined in and there were others dining in too. The food was delicious I ordered a chicken burrito and a steak burrito with a steak tostada the chicken was nice and juicy with lettuce and rice. The tostada was tender steak and sour cream for a extra taste. Wow. So far, this may be the best Mexican restaurant I've been to in Chicago. On top of the great food, the staff was genuine and gave off a community feel - a very local and welcoming atmosphere. I will be recommending this place to others and sampling more dishes off the menu. Food (8.5/10): This might be the highest rating I've given so far. Chips and salsa - I was pleasantly surprised when I bit down on my first chip. So fresh. I knew it had to be made in-house. Comes with several sauces that are guess what - also made in-house. Steak fajitas - I did not post a photo because all of the ones I took were just filled with steam as the dish comes out sizzling straight off the grill. What caught me by surprise though was the sides of rice, guacamole, and beans. Wow. At every Mexican restaurant I've been to up to this moment, none of these things have ever stood out and just taste so standard like from the can or wherever. These overlooked staple foods at this place are next level. Chile Verde - large portion size is the first thing I noticed. Meat is cooked to almost like a stew softness. Orders came with a choice of flour or corn tortillas that are made as fresh as it gets. Value (7.5/10): Portion sizes are pretty large. You will not leave hungry. Dishes average to about $13-15. Ambience/amenities (7/10): Cozy shop on the street corner. Classic Mexican restaurant interior with about 6 tables. Suited for groups of up to 4 people.
