I arrived early and I was told to leave and come back at the appointed time which I did, however, I got a text 15 minutes early that my table was ready. While waiting for my friend to arrive, I asked for coffee. The coffee poured to me was in a nice large cup, but was cold. I tried to get someone's attention to replace it for 15 minutes but they were otherwise engaged. We were seated on the balcony, which is a very tight space and a very small bistro table. I ordered a Leo omelette and I asked our waitress the difference between the house cured salmon and the Scottish salmon. I wanted the least salty of the two. She didn't know the difference. My friend told the waiter she had an onion allergy and she didn't want raw onions or any scallions on anything due to a food allergy. She ordered eggs Benedict with salmon and it arrived with chives all over it. She asked them to give her a new one without the chives. She also ordered a bagel instead of brioche with the eggs Benedict and a side of avocado. When they brought the dish back, the bagel was covered in butter, the cream cheese had scallions in it,, and the side of avocado was covered in oil. When she told the waiter that she didn't want butter on her bagel or oil on her avocado , he said there's no butter on there. She asked for some paper towels, and there were at least seven or eight paper towels that she was able to wipe the butter off with that were just drenched. no attempt was made to replace the avocado, or the bagel which was covered in oil and butter. Before we closed out our check, we asked for three sesame bagels to go. The waiter brought us a box and said I brought you half a dozen to make up for the error we made on your allergy and I gave you three sesame and three everything bagels (which have onions that she's allergic to) .The staff doesn't seem to understand food allergies or how the food is served on the menu so if you have a food allergy, perhaps don't go to this restaurant as the staff can't absorb what it means to be allergic to something and isn't clear about what's in the dishes . I explained to the waiter that anything allium affects her. The fact that the everything bagels have onion and touched the sesame bagels means she can't have it. They brought out another order of her sesame bagels. I handled the check and nothing was done on the check to make up for all these errors, although the manager did come to our table and apologized profusely. I left a 20% tip anyway because I feel for people who have to make their living waiting tables however they did nothing to deserve this even lying to her saying there's no butter on the bagel or oil on the avocado. All the talk of the manager did nothing too although she was very nice. We asked to see a dessert menu and they just brought the regular menu and said dessert here is French toast, pancakes, or cheese blintzes. If there are two people eating breakfast, then you can add a bagel for $2. We got the salt and pepper and​ everything 2.0 bagels. I LOVED the everything 2.0 bagel. Come here to get a good instagram but pass if you're looking for good smoked fish, bagels, or service. I knew what I was getting into when I came here for brunch - the food was just ok, really nothing special in terms of taste, but looked cute stacked on plates in a tower formation. That's all there is to it. This is frankly just an overhyped, overpriced Major Food Group spot. Russ and Daughters or even Tompkins Square Bagels are much better if good lox bagels is what you're looking for. Each of the incidences described below, on a standalone basis, aren't enough to form a negative option, but the culmination of these less-than-ideal experiences led me to give Sadelle's a solid 3 star rating. I walked in to check in for my reservation, and was greeted by a hostess who looked like she hasn't smiled in years. She looked annoyed during our entire (thankfully brief) interaction. She also assumed she knew which reservation was mine before asking for my name...she said my last name aloud and asked if that was me. Good guess that one of the few asian last names on your list belonged to an asian woman, but it would've been less presumptuous to just ask. Also, side note- why do you have to email to get a reservation? It's frankly inconveniencing more than anything, especially in the day and age of Resy/OpenTable/Yelp Reservations at your fingertips. Next, we had to wait a while before we had water but he did ultimately apologize for the wait. Given we had plenty of time to review the menu, we had questions for our server by the time he came to fill our waters. We wanted to ask him questions but he seemed annoyed and replied, "let me do the waters then I'll come back to answer your questions." When he returned he asked what we wanted without offering to answer our questions so we were confused. All in all I understand it's a busy place during peak brunch hours, and this guy is probably busting his butt trying to handle all of his tables, but if you're going to charge $24 for some thinly sliced fish and a small bagel, I'd imagine that you would strive for your service to be a key differentiator. Bagels here are pretty small. When they first brought out our bagels, they mixed up our order. We asked for 3 "everything 2.0s" and 1 everything bagel. They gave us the reverse, and one of the bagels was actually 80% the size of the other. They fixed this quickly after we asked about it. The only reason I did 4 vs 5 stars is its a little pricey, but I like it enough to spend on breakfast when o normally wouldn't at other locations. they have these little cinnamon buns that are so good and something they are "famous" for. Sadelles is a bit of a love hate for me. They really excel on absolutely lovely presentation and vibe. Reservations are really very annoying to get and don't try walking in because they'll quote you 2 hour waits for weekends and you'll probably end up waiting even longer than that if you stick around. Also it's incredibly over priced. That being said, when you do finally get the bagel tower, it's pretty tasty and really beautiful - definitely an instagram dream. There are several places in the city that are significantly better for lox and bagels, but if you're looking for a pretty classic soho brunch experience, this is on brand. Can't say enough about this place!! It's a MUST! Went on a Sunday morning and they are already filling up, however, the entire staff works hard to give you a great experience. There's a worker behind the counter slicing the smoked salmon and it's mesmerizing (and also makes your starving) to watch before being seated! The service of your choice of fish comes with bagels, smear, fresh tomato, cucumber, and chives. Incredible- we could have eaten this over and over! My husband and I came here for breakfast last weekend and this was probably my 4th or 5th time and his first time. I've always had a pretty good experience and the food has been really good even though it is overpriced. This time something was just off. Our sever was not very helpful and she seemed annoyed to be working. I think she maybe came by our table twice the entire meal so we ended up having to ask other servers for help. While I love the ambiance of the restaurant, they seem to be putting the tables way too close to each other. Went here to try their famous sticky bun. I have to say that initially I was a bit underwhelmed by the size, but after tasting its richness, I understood why. (Then again, it's pretty hard to find truly horrible bagels in NYC, and I've had comparable quality bagels for less.) The bagel counter does get somewhat crowded though, so be prepared for a bit of a wait. My usual order is the house salmon on a salt & pepper bagel with plain cream cheese, tomatoes, and onions. The salt & pepper bagel balances out the creaminess and acidity of the tomatoes and onions, and the texture of the salmon is delectable when taken as a whole with the rest of the ingredients!
