We spend part of the year out here, and this Safeway has become one of those easy, default stops. Not somewhere you go out of your way for, but it's reliable when you need it. The store is usually clean and laid out well enough that you're not wandering around trying to find basic stuff. Produce is solid most of the time, shelves are generally stocked, and you can get in and out without much hassle. Staff has always been good to us. Friendly when you interact with them, quick at checkout, no nonsense. Exactly what you want in a place like this. Where it drops a star is in the details. Prices can feel a little high for what it is, and every now and then you'll run into something being out of stock or a line that moves slower than it should. Nothing that ruins the trip, just enough to notice. It's not trying to be anything special, and honestly that works in its favor. It does the job, it's convenient, and we keep coming back without thinking twice. Solid four stars. read more

This Safeway has been my primary grocery store for 24 years. I like it better than Fry's and definitely Basha's, but it's not terribly special or trendy, like Sprouts or AJ's Fine Foods. Always has great produce, meat is so-so, pre-packaged salads are somewhat lacking. Bakery is great, deli is pretty good, too. Remember to use your Safeway Rewards card or phone # for savings on Chevron fuel. Also, remember to use the Safeway app or website for additional savings. It has a Starbuck's. read more

Visited this safeway and asked for help from meat department finding flank steak. Young guy helped and handed me steak, grabbed it bought it and took home to cook. Only to open it and find out it was expired. Our home smelled so bad, and dinner plans were ruined. When I reached out to store, they wanted to take packaging back to the store for a return. There was no way I could return same evening, and I was not going to keep packaging that smelled awful in our home. Wasted $45, ruined dinner and manager did not care. Will not be visiting again. Holidays can be stressful. All that rushing around and investment of time and effort in the "perfect event" EVERY customer expects places even higher expectations on those working to meet them. Moses and Christian in the Safeway butcher department have done this very well. I bought a full rib roast yesterday, requesting the bone be cutback and tied on. This morning I was prepping the roast for tomorrow only to discover the bone had not been cut back. The ties were deceptively in place apparently to make me think the bone had been cut back but there was no separation. It was one unified hunk of meat. Outraged I took the roast back. At the counter I told the butcher the bone hadn't been cut off. He looked at me in disbelief. I told him not to look at me but to look at the roast. He looked at the roast. To my amazement he demonstrated the bone WAS cut back and tied on just as we had ordered and purchased it the day before. I'm an IDIOT and immediately apologized. I hope the folks working hard to make our holidays special get a chuckle out of my ridiculous outrage. More likely I'm the reason they drink and I regret that. Safeway refunded my money however they were not going to give me enough money to get the order back tonight so I would be having to pay for the order two times. For the longest time they would package left over wings from the deli and sell them for 1/2 price per pound ($3.99) the following days compared to the hot wings. They now charge full price ($7.99) for old wings ?? Then after 3 days they do a "deal" like this photo after they are 3-4 days old about to go bad. They sit and get thrown out now for the past month when they started this. I watch people pick them up and put them back. Makes no sense to charge full price for 1-4 day old items especially when the hot ones are the same price directly next to them. They used to sell out by the end of the day just fine, greed is unfortunate. Wasnt enough to raise it $1-2, instead pay full price for whats old unless its on it's 3-4th day sitting there. read more

I love Safeway! Why the crazy review then... Well I love to get their "to go" food and I've realized that anything Safeway had prepared has a notice on the label as... *Contains Bioengineered Food Ingredients" Honestly I'm shocked, but cautious. Just Google the definition. I do not want to be eating this type of food. I want real food. I attached a couple pics abs you can see this is the last statement on ALL of their prepared packages in every department including bakery, fresh fruits and veggies areas, and deli. If this is not in every product I would think they should update their labels to reflect as such. Until then I will not be coming back here for my favorite to go meals and fresh fruits. It's Thanksgiving day and we needed to grab dinner for tonight (just normal food) and I pulled up Safeway on my maps app on my phone and it had said they're open until 6pm and it was 550pm at the time. I pulled up to Safeway almost immediately at 551pm and they were closed. Carts pulled in and the doors locked. We then saw the store manager walk out and get into his car at 554 pm. Good, clean grocery store that was well stocked and had friendly staff. We stopped in here real quick as we needed a few items and had some time to kill. I started at the Starbucks there and chatted with the friendly barista as she made my delicious coffee. We then browsed the store as we looked for the few items we needed this trip. It was nice and quiet on a Wednesday afternoon and it felt like we had the store all to ourselves. The temperature was also perfect (so many are way too cold) for me and my two kids. They had everything we needed. Floral Department.....They rock here!!!! Grab your flowers, pick a vase and you'll end up with a beautiful fresh bouquet for $20 or less. Sometimes their seasonal vases are marked down to a fraction of the cost. Deli...another great find if your in a pinch and want a fresh hot sandwich to go. Bakery....best donuts around. Safeway should consider installing shelf checkouts if they continue to only have one to two checkout lanes open at a time. PSA I've shopped at Safeway for years. When we first moved into this house there were no grocery stores nearby. We were excited to have one put in. Over the years, customer service has been important to Safeway, and even though they were a little more expensive, I appreciate good customer service. Then I noticed their CS was seriously declining and it has continued to do so. My daughter was shopping there, and was handed $60 in change from their clerk and they gave her counterfeit $$. She didn't know that until she tried spending it at another store and they wouldn't take it. She tried returning it to Gabe, the manager at Safeway, along with the receipt. He said he reviewed the tape and because she didn't stop traffic to pull out her counterfeit pen to check to see if the money THEY put into their registers and were handing out were fake right then and there, he said he didn't have to take them back and offered no compensation. Well Gabe, you're young, you're clearly inexperienced and you've forgotten that it's customers like her and like me (who has literally spent thousands of dollars there over the years) are the reason you get a paycheck. I filed a claim through the claims department and it has been over a month with no update. Safeway apparently tampers with the Apple gift card then rips you off when you purchase them. Shout out to Dina at Safeway's Bakery 40th and Chandler Blvd. Safeway has come through for us for birthday cakes and balloon bouquets over the years. I called AJ's first and was advised I could choose from what was on stock, Nothing but bundt chocolate option was limited to chocolate chip option only. Dina at Safeway with less than 48 hours created to our specifications of chocolate with cherry filling with nondairy whipped topping, and designed the white and dark chocolate curl decorations for less than $25. I stopped into this Safeway to use the bank ATM and thought I would grab a few sales items. The cashier was friendly enough. I think it is strange though that the cashiers do not load your groceries into the cart. Just as a comparison Bashas has two wide areas next to the checkout, the left side is for the cart and the right side is for the customer. As the cashier fills up a bag they just put it in the cart. Not much effort really and they are very pleasant. But at Safeway the cashiers check you out and watch you put your groceries in the cart. This would be great if Safeway had Walmart prices. But... At least Walmart has a grocery bag carousel that makes it far easier to load the groceries. But unfortunately that is not the only issue with this store. I came in to use the ATM on New Year's Eve, bought something and took it to the register. The cashier rung up the item I paid with the credit card and the item was bagged and placed back on the conveyer. The cashier gave me my receipt and never said a word through the entire transaction, looking like she would rather be anywhere but there. I honestly don't see any incentive to pay Safeway's high prices and get no service. This is one of the mysteries of life I guess. Every time I shop here, I swear I won't come back, but I always do, because I don't want to deal with the crowd at Fry's. The people here are really nice and helpful as well, so I don't fault them for anything. This place can NOT keep their shelves stocked appropriately. I assume it's because they're not moving product fast enough due to the Fry's across the street, but it's extremely common for me to not be able to buy something due to it simply sitting on the shelf, expired. I just got back from this store 10 minutes ago, and their pre-packaged tomatoes were expired by 5 days (all of them), and of the yogurts I tried to buy, two kinds were all expired as well. I check everything now, but I've purchased tortillas, pickles, and cheese here multiple times without realizing the products were expired, and not just a little bit expired - months. They also have the worst produce. Bananas are terrible here - either totally green or too far brown to last through the week. Sometimes they have good avocados, but sometimes they've got 2 full displays with just bad fruit in them. As I said, the people here are great, and the location is clean and orderly, and I keep coming back because it's quiet and relaxed, unlike the Fry's across the street, but seriously, if you don't check every item you put into your cart, you're going to be buying something expired. read more

No, this place WINS I stood in a line for 7 minutes which is fine, but then the lady turns her light off and says she's closed, when it was about to get to me. I was pissed at that point, but it didn't stop there. I went to walk to another line as anyone else would, and there are 7 employees standing around a small spill. I go to talk to the ONE line they have open, and it went over half way down the isle. They also had ONE express lane open, 15 items or less. Especially with all of the things that are going on, you'd think they'd be a little more on top of things. This location has the friendliest employees and one of the best bakeries I've ever done business with! My nephew specifically wanted a hamburger cake for his birthday. I called around and someone told me about this Safeway being awesome at cakes. I called them and the gal I spoke with was SO sweet on the phone and told me she could do one. This review is specifically for the bakery. Decent selection. They do make pretty good cakes, but the staff has been extremely rude on TWO occasions. The first time the lady in the bakery would not even sell us a cake box. My friend had to ask for a manager who was nice enough to give us one (although we would have paid). The second time I was looking for a specific cake that I saw there once before. The lady looked at me like I was crazy. She said, "We can't keep all those cakes all the time! The ECONOMY!" The whole point of customer service is for the customer to be satisfied. Also said he had spoken to the employee working that night. Followed up by offering me a refund and a small outback gift card to make up for birthday dinner. Most importantly I felt listened to. This place needs to be closed, overhauled and staff replaced. Go in for a few things at 6:30 on a weeknight. There's a five minute wait at the deli for someone to saunter out, obviously looking inconvenienced she had to actually work. Then there's one checkout open and seven people in line. Despite the intercom directing assistance to the front, there are five employees wandering around doing less than nothing. One kid asks to go on break (in front of customers), but then is directed to work the register by a lead. He can't decide which register to open, so then he has to chat with the other cashier, which obviously halts any progress, because that cashier can't talk and check out at the same time. But the best part was arriving home, only to discover an item sold had a sell-by date of three weeks prior. Boffo job. read more

But the last few times my orders weren't ready on time (off by more than an hour) and my last order they didn't do until the next day so I got overcharged $16+ for items no longer on sale. I know it's 2019, but would it be too much to ask for to have cashiers working st a grocery store on a weekend?! I saw more employees being personal shoppers for lazy people who can't get out of their air conditioned cars to get their own groceries, than I saw cashiers. 2 registers were open, both had at least 10 people in each line. After a few "3's a crowd" announcements, other employees showed up to open a register. This store used to be awesome years ago bit lately it seems like customer service is non existant.
