I can't believe I haven't tried this place sooner! The gentleman who helped us was very sweet! I got a mango smoothie that's not pictured and it was soooo good! It definitely was mixed with other fruit but it was soooo refreshing, I wish I took it to go :( I loved that they had out door sitting cause I got to keep up with the game. Definitely coming back!

I ordered from this restaurant twice in one week through DoorDash last week. It was my first time ordering from them, and so far I've enjoyed everything I've ordered here. First day I ordered the chicken shawarma wrap without the chili oil and got a side of fries. The fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I dipped them in tahini mixed with ketchup. I ate half a wrap and the salad one day (with a few fries) and then had the rest of the fries and other half of wrap the next day. It held up great! That same weekend I ordered for the family, this time trying the beef and lamb shawarma wrap and the chicken shawarma plate. I also ordered the falafel and it was all delicious. My only complaint was that there were quite a few chewy/ nervy bites in the beef/lamb shawarma. This time I didn't remove the chili oil from the wrap and while it was tolerable for me, it had a good kick. My daughter really loved the basmati rice and the pita with hummus, as did I. Their pita is thicker than most places I've been to, but it was really good and fluffy. The order of falafel comes with tahini although I prefer it with tzatziki, which was included in the shawarma plate. I called the restaurant to request garlic sauce for the fries since there wasn't an option through the platform to included it and no way to add in notes for requesting it. The man who answered was very understanding and helpful and added it to my order. Great customer service! This place is closer to my work than other Mediterranean spots I usually hit up, so I foresee it being a regular in my rotation.

Amazing food! The place itself is small and a bit hidden away but it's very nice and the service is good as well. I got The Mediterranean and the baba ganoush and hummus were sooooooo good!!! Cannot emphasize that enough. We walked from the aquarium but found out that there's 2 hour free parking in a parking garage nearby.

I was able to order my food quickly. It was made to order freshly. The portion size was more than enough and lasted me for 2 days. Everything tasted great especially the hummus. I got my order to go but if I had time I would have ate there since it was such a nice day out. I will definitely come back here again because it's so close to home.

$21 (chicken shawarma plate) Saffron Mediterranean Plate monologue: On a leisurely stroll in the neighborhood of this restaurant, I came upon the street sign for Saffron Mediterranean Grill. All 3 of those words were a sign that I was supposed to indulge in this cuisine for lunch. As I walked down this unknown to me at that time, but now I know about this corridor that houses small restaurants, I made my way into this establishment. The atmosphere was an obvious contrast to the restaurants on the main road - quiet! Exactly what I was looking for on this particular day. After some fun small talk about this being one of my favorite cuisines with the man behind the counter (I didn't get his name), I ordered the chicken shawarma plate. About 10 minutes later it was delivered to my table. I beg you to please take a look at the attached picture. Yes, all of that was for me, for that unbelievable price! It was beyond delicious!! This portion size can either feed 2 hungry adult humans or it could be a situation where there is a little for me now and little for me later (needless to say, I took some leftovers home for dinner!) I highly recommend that you visit Saffron Mediterranean Grill when you are in the mood for this cuisine. You will be so satisfied! p.s. - this is my go to spot for Mediterranean food in Long Beach. Maybe I'll see you there?!

The first thing I noticed as I walked into this place was how exceptionally clean it is. The menu is direct and to the point not at all overwhelming, like most spots. Isiah gave us such good customer service he was very attentive and made our dishes quickly yet still very aesthetic perfect for photographs. Our order consisted of a falafel wrap with side salad and a sharwama wrap with fries. Both such good quality dishes, ingredients are crisp and fresh. I also ordered their house ice tea which was very refreshing. Lets not get started on the dessert it looked like something out of magazine. Overall super satisfied with this place, the 5 start reviews are well deserved and I look forward to trying this place again the next time I come back into town.

My review is long overdue at Saffron! I love Saffron and I can't believe I only came to know about it recently! This will be one of my regulars for lunch during work since I work close by. They are a bit tucked in, at the end of the food plaza where Chipotle and Donburi. The food is so good and the portion is great for the price! I got the beef & lamb shawarma wrap and it was sooooo good!! It came with plenty of salad and I love the light and tangy dressing. The interior is decorated so nicely and it's a sweet short oasis escape from the outside crazy DTLB. Chef is great and service was fast. I highly recommend them!!!

Finally got to check out Saffron's Gyro & Kebab Wraps. I am often skeptical because the wrap can be too thick and gets soggy, etc. But I am happy to report that these wraps were delicious and probably the best I've ever had. My friend got the Gyro which has similar meat to the Kebab that I got but it's thin slices of meat. I prefer the Kebab which is thicker like a sausage. The hummus, lettuce, pickles inside were great. The secret sauce was delicious. The wrap thin and did not get soggy. Check out my pics! I opted for the salad but my friend got the fries and I knew I would grab a few. Their fries are so GREAT. Hot, crisp and good size. If you're starving - definitely get the fries. They'll put you over the top. Service great as usual and again, I love the real glassware and china. Yes, it's a casual place and in a quiet alcove but this presentation gives a nice cafe ambiance. I should ask if one can bring an alcoholic beverage!

What a hidden gem. Stopped by here on a whim before my flight for lunch and was beyond impressed. I ordered the Mediterranean vegetarian combo which for $17 was extremely reasonable considering the quantity of food. Everything was the right balance of freshness and flavor. The service was also exceptional. We were served our food so quickly. The ambiance is good considering it's in a dead mall, but then again, much of downtown Long Beach is quite dead. In the midst of a rather quiet and empty downtown, Saffron is one of the bright hidden gems keeping downtown worthy of a visit.

I ordered the shawarma and it was shawarma. It was some meat product crap reheated in a skillet. Tasted gross. The babaganusg was mid at best and so was the hummas. At least it was terribly expensive. Pass pass pass. Go to Amatoli for some good chow. read more

This place is beautiful and the food and the service is amazing. Saffron Mediterranean is tucked away in the mall on Pine Street. We ordered my birthday dinner for takeout because I wasn't sure about how the seating would be inside or out. When we got there, it was alive with energy as people were waiting in line to order, some were sitting inside or outside. It was very much a vibe. I came here after the gym recently and I ordered the Beef & Lamb Shawarma plate. Let me tell you how AMAZING the food was ! Omg, I couldn't tell the difference from the lamb & steak, it was seasoned to PERFECTION !! The guy that helped me out was nice & polite; & the meat was cooked after I ordered so it was nice & fresh . The hummus was delicious & so was the salad . The place is nice & clean, has an outside dining area as well .. I just wished they opened at the time it says online 10:30am & they open at 11am, I get out the gym at 10am!! We decided to grab dinner here before the Terrace Theater. Not crowded, guy at the counter seemed pretty nice. I ordered a cup of lentil soup and a falafel wrap with salad. I love meditteranean food and was excited to try this place, but, I was completely disappointed. The soup had a very thin, watery consistency and was very salty, reminiscent of canned soup. I don't know if it was canned, it just tasted that way. The salad had a very bitter dressing on it and also wasn't good. The falafel was just ok, the falafel balls themselves didn't seem to be cooked all the way, too soft and not crunchy at all. Once the food was served they never came back one time to see if everything was ok or if we needed anything else. There was a female working who saw all the food barely touched and she didn't say a word. Not sure what the story was here, but, can't say that I would recommend this place or go back. Must have been a REALLY off night. read more

This hidden gem is in the heart of downtown Long Beach , I stoped in on my lunch break and had the seafood kabob with lemon mint hummus. I paired it with a mint cucumber salad . And two other sides . We were walking around downtown when we came across this hidden little place. Immediately went to check it out and let me tell you it was wonderful. The food was great and the owners were even better. Though the food did take a while to come out, the owners, who are such a cute married couple, were transparent about it and always made sure we were alright during the wait. Saffron is the name of a rare spice, as well as a rare restaurant in DTLB. I ordered the gyro plate, and it was nicely seasoned and freshly made. I had originally planned to get a gyro from another Greek restaurant and I saw this place and stepped in. The lady that helped me was patient and delightful, we need more restaurnnteers like that downtown. Gonna try the grilled octopus salad next...Lunch specials would be appreciated for us State workers. Keep up the good work. read more

Hidden gem, affordable prices for lunch, DELICIOUS food, amazing staff! We came here for a group lunch and despite our big group. They took such good care of us, answered all of our questions for those of us that were newer to Mediterranean cuisine, and were so welcoming and inviting. Parking was easy in the free public parking lot and just a short walk across the intersection. I imagine this will be a lunchtime go-to as I work near downtown. read more

Horrible food and worse service, that's on me though because the place was dead empty when I walked inside and it's on a very busy street, I thought it would be good and fast but it wasn't either. I think the man working there was the owner and he was so bizarrely rude and confrontational for no reason. If you want McDonald's quality at the speed of a snail, I recommend this place. read more

New Mediterranean spot right in the heart of Downtown Long Beach. The food tasted really fresh, and the chef makes his own pasta (super plus). Everything we ordered was so darn good. My husband had the salmon, which was delicious. We'll definitely be back. Staff was also really friendly. read more

Honey, let me tell you about my new obsession--Saffron Mediterranean Grill! My partner and I have sashayed our way over here FOUR times this month, and trust me, we're not done yet. Downtown Long Beach has been in a bit of a culinary rehab, especially after losing some of our favorite spots. But darling, Saffron is the perfect remedy! While there's another Mediterranean joint in the area that gets all the buzz (and coins), it's a little too pricey and always packed. Saffron, on the other hand, is our cute little secret with food that will make you want to do a happy dance right there in the restaurant. Now, let's talk about the food--because baby, it's divine! The handmade falafel? Chef's kiss. The beef short rib ravioli? I'm still dreaming about it. And don't even get me started on the dips. With so many to choose from, you'll want to try them all just to find your fave. And trust me, you will! Discrimination and Terrible Food I had an extremely disappointing experience at this restaurant, not only because of the subpar food but also due to the blatant discrimination against Jewish customers. It was shocking and disturbing to witness such behavior in a place that is supposed to be welcoming to all. From the start, the service was noticeably different depending on who was being served. The owner's attitude toward Jewish guests was rude and dismissive, creating an uncomfortable and unwelcoming atmosphere. No one should ever be treated differently because of their background. To make matters worse, the food was far from enjoyable--bland, overpriced, and clearly not fresh. Given the lack of respect and poor quality, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Now, it looks messy and dirty, and the cleanliness has noticeably declined. The place also smells awful. It was excellent when owned by the previous owners, but after being sold to non-Mediterranean owners, everything changed. I tried the Chicken Kebab plate at Saffron Mediterranean Grill and honestly it was one of the best Mediterranean meals I've had in Long Beach, The chicken was super juicy, perfectly seasoned, and you can taste that it's freshly grilled -- not dry at all. The garlic sauce (toum) with the rice and warm pita takes it to another level. The rice was fluffy and aromatic and the hummus tasted homemade.The portion size is big, easily enough for a full meal, and everything tasted clean and fresh, not heavy. Mediterranean Grill - Long Beach Chef Ron is amazing! This place is truly a gem. The owners are incredibly nice and humble, making you feel right at home. The food is beyond fresh--every vegetable tastes crisp, clean, and organic. If you love pita bread, you're in for a treat: warm, thick, fluffy, and served steaming fresh. Most of their 5 star reviews are fake .they must be from their own circle. I had a disappointing experience at Saffron .The food was tasteless and definitely not fresh, with pre-cooked meat. Portions were small for the price, and the service was slow. Definitely not worth the hype. I work for the City of Long Beach and always love trying new places, but unfortunately, I have to add this one to my 'do not go' list. read more

I ordered the shish tauok plate and man it was superb , bloody delicious the garlic sauce flavor i actually downloaded yelp to add this review ! The flavor took me away and i asked for another skewer the plate had carbs , fiber and protein with one of the best pitas i tried in California! Don't believe the 5-star reviews -- they must have been written by friends and family, because this place doesn't even deserve half a star, to be honest.
