Consulting the waiter, we sought recommendations for safe options and the mildest chicken dish, considering our aversion to spiciness. The waiter suggested the butter chicken. While everything was delicious, I found the butter chicken a bit spicier than I would have liked, hoping for the kind of spice level I can get at Zareens. Despite this, both of us thoroughly enjoyed the meal! What sets Saffron apart for me is its ambiance. It exudes a peaceful and open vibe, creating the perfect backdrop for a romantic dinner. I love Indian cuisine and this place is consistently OUTSTANDING. I live in New York City but come out here for a few weeks every year. I discovered "Saffron" a few years ago and I've had their delicious lunch buffet many times - I highly recommend it (get there early because it is packed every day). This year I came for dinner - it was so unbelievably good I went back 3 times and will come here for my last dinner before heading back to NYC. Ask the waiter for recommendations but I highly recommend: Hyderabadi Chicken Curry, Butternut Squash Coconut Curry, lamb curry; naan is perfectly prepared. They have a "potato" appetizer (can't remember the name - they only have one) which I normally wouldn't think to order but got it based on the waiter's recommendation - hard to explain why it was SO good (delicate, light, beautifully spiced, lovely "presentation" too). In addition to the excellent food, the service is pitch-perfect; attentive and professional. Really special place. read more

Saffron's new branch in San Carlos impresses with a North Indian-focused menu and a welcoming ambiance. We started with the Lamb Slider, which was tender and juicy, and the Rawa Fried Shrimp, which was perfectly crispy. The Black pepper Chicken Tikka could have been more flavorful. For the main course, I had the Chicken Biryani served with raita, which was well-prepared. The service was prompt, and the prices were reasonable compared to similar places. More seafood options would have made the selection better. Saffron San Carlos is a great spot for North Indian cuisine, and I highly recommend trying it out! read more

When I'm there I want to explore the upper regions of India, take up arms against Pakistan, snake charm, travel by bus, and give up Catholicism for Hindu......until I walk out and realize there's many more cultures to explore before I make that kind of decision. But wait, the lunch buffet (stop thinking Reno or Vegas right now) is great, especially when you hit it early on a Saturday when nobody is around and you have the line to yourself. We went to Saffron for dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday, and it was a wonderful experience. The ambience is warm, elegant, and very inviting--perfect for a special occasion. The menu offers a great variety, and everything we tried was excellent. We absolutely loved the saag paneer, jafrani malai kofta, and Saffron dal makhani. The garlic naan was fresh and flavorful, and the dessert truly stood out--the elaichi kheer was delicious and the perfect way to end the meal. This was honestly the best Indian food I've had in the Bay Area so far. Everything we ordered was full of flavor, well-balanced, and tasted very fresh. The dishes felt authentic without being overly heavy, and you can tell the ingredients are high quality. My husband and I always go to a restaurant nearby and it was booked. So we decided to try this place. The ambience was nice. Wish I could say the same about the food. We ordered the chicken biryani which was so super spicy! Im east Asian so I love spicy... but this was so spicy we couldn't even taste the food. The paratha was burnt and the serving sizes are so tiny. As we finished the staff seemed to be circling our table so we would hurry up and leave. Will not be returning there again read more

Had my first experience here with my fiancé last week. We were both really in the mood for Indian and this place was great. They have a huge buffet assortment of food and fresh naan baked on site. And it you don't feel like the whole buffet thing they do have a menu for you to order off of if you wanted a more lazy night :). Wow, first time here was absolutely wonderful. I love the curry it's made to perfection. The waiter Sam took great care of us the entire time and answered any questions i had. First time here and I'm from phoenix Arizona. Would definitely make a 2 hour drive just to come here. Veg food.They do fantastic tandoori dishes , and serve delicious naans . Service has been great everytime. Never coming back here again!!!! Super rude staff with a snobby attitude. We spent about $50 per person and still got bad service!!! As for the food. Every sauce tasted similar and sweet. Kebabs were pretty dry and the samosa were turning it had a sour taste to them. I'm sorry saffron!! Please train your staff to treat others with respect especially there own kind. Price is a bit high as expected from Indian food but portions aren't bad and I found the flavor/spices to be very tasteful. I really liked the outdoor seating as well. I'd highly recommend it's hard to find good Indian restaurant but gave it a shot since there were some Indian people eating here, I assumed it had to be pretty good. I have been here several times and they are consistent and tasty. To me it feels like the kids in a family have taken the traditional recipes from their parents and improved them for the bay area pallet. I enjoyed the samosas but found them slightly less delicious than the ones at Mountain view Farmer's Market. All in all not bad for the price! read more

We have ordered take out a few times here this week and it is very good. I don't feel I am an expert on Indian food, but I have been eating it most of my life and I know what I like. Great lunch buffet. Butter chicken here is very good, and their overall selection in great. They always have a few meat dishes and plenty of vegetarian dishes. This might be the best Indian restaurant I've experienced in the US, rivaling even those in Asia. While it's slightly pricey and the portions could be a bit larger, the food is absolutely phenomenal.
