Amazing. My fiancée and I had been on the road all day and we got to town late. First time being in Johnson City and we weren't expecting anything great but hoping for a decent hot meal on a cold night. My fiancée did a web search and quickly found Sahib. Reviews were pretty good so we headed over. So happy we did. Outside is ok - looks like a converted chain QSR. Also have a drive through which is usually a red flag but not here. Walked in and were immediately impressed by cool vibe of interior design. We were met with a very friendly greeting and seated immediately. I would say they were about 3/4s busy and it was late so probably on their second turn. Shortly afterwards our waiter AJ showed up. AJ was very friendly, and helpful with menu questions and we had several as this was our first visit. The food we selected was crazy good. We have eaten all over the world and this was a memorable meal. Also the Oregon Pinot Noir I had and the cocktail my fiancée had were quite good. Top it all off with prices that are very reasonable for the quality received. Wish these guys were in Austin because we would be there on a regular basis! 4 stars for the food + 2 stars for the service = average of 3 stars. Went into the new location just before 6pm for dinner with 2 adults & 2 kids. The restaurant was about 1/4 full so there was plenty of room. Service: They sat us towards the very back at a table with incomplete place settings. After waiting plenty of time, I swiped the items we needed from a nearby table. It took quite a while to get our water refilled and place our orders. Then different people came to refill our water about every 2 minutes. We had to read our meal #'s to the server because she didn't know the menu. We had four different people waiting on us and one didn't seem to know what the others were responsible for. I asked to split our chicken soup in 2 bowls for our 2 kids (they don't have kid-size portions) and that didn't happen. I can forgive these things because it seems most of the wait staff is new. I can't forgive that they pushed two tables together to accommodate a table of 7 very large, very loud adults and that table was about 12" from ours. We bumped each other when getting up because there wasn't enough room. The tables they use have a large round pedestal as a support and it won't allow you to get your chair close to the table - something one needs with small kids so things don't end up on the floor. I also can't forgive that the bathroom floor was covered in water and there were no towels to dry one's hands. My overall impression of the service was chaos. They should have put off their opening until the staff was fully trained and the facilities ready for guests. Now for the food: We had Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Vindaloo, Indian Chicken Soup, plain Naan, rice, and Vegetable Samosas. All of it was delicious and seemed fresh. I asked for spicy and I got spicy which is nice change of pace from other area restaurants. The house Pino Grigio was so-so. They do have a full bar. I def recommend the food, but wait a few weeks until the restaurant & staff are in better shape. read more

I was craving curry and chose Sahib to get my fix. Only two in our party likes Indian food, so we got the buffet to go. Warning if you do this: Indian food is fairly heavy. We ended up paying much more for our meal than we would have had we eaten in. But it was worth it! Friendly, helpful staff. A good variety of foods. Hot. Freshly made. The flavors were different from some of my go-to places at home, but still quite tasty. Naan was delicious. One of my greatest weaknesses, basmati rice, was cooked perfectly. The buffet runs longer than most-- til 3 pm. It's a bit cramped where it is set up, so I'd suggest going for an early or a late lunch rather than during the busiest times. Came into the new location with my fiance and never have I ever said, "Oh my gosh, this is soooo good" more in my life. We started with the mint paneer tikka appetizer and the flavor train took off from there. Very balanced mint to spice ratio and VERY fresh ingredients. Then had the 'bento box' of Indian food (wish I could remember what it's called) but basically resembled a school lunch tray with a variety of sections for a variety of foods. Everything my fiance and I ordered was delicious and unique in flavors. We ordered our food spicy and it definitely met our expectations for what spicy Indian food is supposed to be. In addition to our meal being on point, the service was friendly and attentive. Our water was always filled and our empty plates were quickly removed from the table. At one point during our meal, we were even greeted by the chef, who apologized for our meal taking a while to prepare. He informed us that all of the food is prepared fresh to order and it definitely tasted that way from the naan bread to the dessert provided at the end of the meal. We would have gladly waited an hour for the meal that we had! Needless to say, Sahib delivered on a great dining experience and I hope this new location brings them much more (deserved) success! Sahib was so much better than most of the places in NY or NJ and was pleasantly surprised. The tandoori Roti, tomato soup, panned dishes and daal tadaka were great. My wife and I have recently discovered out mutual love for Indian cuisine, so we've been scouring our local area for suitable Indian restaurants. We found Sahib, which has fulfilled that need for Johnson City. We did the lunch buffet, which was amazing, but a little pricy for two people ($40 w/ tip). Still it was well worth it and there were a lot of options including vegetarian options. It was very delicious and filling, so we could only do 1.5 plates each. My only critique is to clean up the buffet set up as it was lined with tin foil. More effort could be put in to make it presentable, but in no way does that take away from the experience or the taste. read more

I have been to Sahib multiple times for their lunch buffet and dinner. Their weekday lunch buffet for $899 is the best in town. On the weekends, it increases but you can get curry goat which is out of this world. I really enjoy the lamb kabob with a side of korma. The service is very good, and the owner, Vic, makes you feel right at home. The portions were very generous, so we got to enjoy some leftovers. The table next to us got tandoori chicken, which they said was their favorite ( they were regulars), and we definitely want to try that next. Sahib is an authentic Indian cuisine restaurant that impresses in every aspect. It's delicious, and the menu is large enough to offer something for everyone while still being of consistent quality. Prices are more than fair for what is provided. I have been going to see Vik for years. I started at his old location. It's great to see that I'll always be treated the same, which is like family. I've never had anything but a perfect experience. The food is also phenomenal. Every time I'm close to the area, I make a point to stop in and see my old friend and have one of the best meals I've ever had. 1st time on Johnson City, saw Sahib on Yelp, then asked at Courtyard. Highly recommended and must agree. Vic was most gracious even though he was overwhelmed by the crowd. I said - you need help - his response was "who knew it could be this busy on a Tuesday". Samosa app, Naan with onion, Tikka Masaka, Korma w/salmon (Coconut curry ), and Lemon Drop martini. All super excellent. Joked with Vic, he rimmed my martini with salt instead of sugar. He offered to take it off the bill, but I refused - the food was too good. Went there for the buffet which was reasonably priced. Food was delish especially the butter chicken and the chicken masala! The daal is amazing! Dessert featuring ladus is a must! By far the best and most eclectic restaurant in Johnson City. I am so sorry I didn't come to this place earlier. The service we received was fantastic. They were personable and they changed the buffet very frequently. Refilled drinks at least every 10-15 minutes or less. It's the perfect place for a nice sit down meal, for a reasonable price. Very good food and service! Parking lot and outside patio were very dimly lit and weren't very inviting but glad we continued inside. Very well kept and decorated dining room, bar and what looked like a private dining area. Music level and temperature were perfect with a decent amount of lighting. Had samosas, naan, raita and the mixed tandoori platter and all were very good. My water was kept full the entire dinner and our waiter was super attentive without being annoying. I think staff could be a touch more knowledgeable about some things on the menu as there was a little back and forth to the kitchen to make sure of things, but not huge deal. Bathrooms were less than perfect but not terrible. I will most definitely be back to eat here as I want to try more of the menu and hopefully give a better rating. read more
