This place is a good place for sushi and noodles! I usually take sushi take out from here during covid but recently tried their entrees and it was so good! I really enjoyed the tonkatsu ramen and the my go to is salmon avocado! The service was good and they gave us freebies (yay). I would highly recommend! The space is big and it is near my favorite boba place coco! I saw a lot of people stop by before coming here. We did not have to wait at all so that was nice Plan to come again!

Bulgogi Udon
Suzanne B.

It was a cold and rainy weekday. With the weather having recently turned full-on fall, I needed something piping hot to keep me warm. After a quick perusal of Yelp, I decided to try out a new place. Tucked away in a small shopping center on Plymouth, Saica is unassuming from the outside, but is a cozy respite from the ordinary on the inside. The decor is clean without being spartan, and tables are spaced perfectly so it doesn't feel too snug. We were seated quickly and I decided almost immediately on the Bulgogi Udon. A short wait later my meal arrived, and it didn't disappoint. Hot, umami, and with perfectly slurpable noodles, I didn't hold back as I enjoyed my food. I think I finished it in record time, and didn't leave any room for dessert (a reason to come back, then!) There's an enticing-looking sushi bar that we didn't take advantage of on this trip, but I'll bookmark that for our next outing!

Black Dragon Roll

I've been coming here for the last 4 years and I feel right at home. The service is always great! The owner has been running his successful business for 26 years now! Every time I come in the food is amazing! You can watch the sushi being made at the sushi bar and see the art they make so very detailed and beautiful craftsmanship! I've talked with the sushi bar tenants every time and they always teach me something new. I've also had many times that I've eaten in the restaurant itself and always try something new so far everything I've tried has been very exquisite and appetizing! The scene is an great setting. The decor and art adds a great touch to the restaurant as well. Quite a pleasant aroma of the food adds to the scene as well. I'd definitely recommend trying them out! Whether by yourself, with friends, family, or out on a date. I've done it all and always had a pleasant time! If you have any questions or preferences feel free to always ask your server or the owner and they'd gladly help you find something to enjoy! Here is a little piece I had tonight and I was most definitely impressed with the craft!

Yummy. Delicately fried chicken
Darah H.

OOOHHH WEEE IM FULL. WHEW!! This place is awesome. I have never had Korean/ Japanese food and this was not a disappointment! There was this addict yet savory two fried shirt crispy not overly crunchy chicken combo...cay soo(?). The red curry was REALLY good just wish the coconut milk base was thicker. The meal began with a small side salad with a garlic sauce along with a small bowl of Miso soup. Thr main course had these crispy deep fried vegetables. Which were good but would have been better raw(in my opinion). But please dont think I had an issue. That is NOT the issue. Please stop by and enjoy all that they have to offer. Including the green tea cheesecake. Yes green tea. Cheesecake. Together. CAN WE SAY WE SAY AWESOME SAUCE!

Yaki Mandu DEMOLISHED, must try
Mariam M.

I cannot believe this place does not get more hype. The Korean/Japanese crossover is iconic. We stumbled upon it because the neighboring Indian restaurant was closed indefinitely. We were no longer disappointed as soon as we got the food. The Yaki Mandu appetizer was one of the best I've had, crisp, amazing stuffing, and the sauce that paired was flavorful. Very good ginger salad and the best miso soup I've ever had. The Red Curry dish was one of our favorites, it has a strong coconut base flavor and a sweet mild spice, SO GOOD. The chicken was great and all the veggies on it were amazing. We also ordered 3 sushi and they amazing. The best tempura California I've ever had, crisp yet soft! Freshest and tastiest fish in the Las Vegas and Firecracker rolls as well, could not have been happier with the way my day went! This was the only photo we were left with today.

Unaju $24 yum!
Hali M.

Best sushi I've found near the Ann Arbor area. High quality and fresh fish, this sushi joint was good. The sticky rice was cooked well and the rolls were creative. We had the 3 piece salmon $8 (great deal!) and Ikura $3.75 nigiri and miso soup $2 which were all delicious, and the miso didn't come straight from a can it was good. I had the cherry blossom roll which was DELISH and topped with ikura! $14. The unaju was also cooked well $24, we enjoyed it. I will be back to saica!

Mochi ice cream dessert (green tea, strawberry, mango)

I can't believe this place doesn't have a higher rating!!! We just moved here from Hawaii, which has a TON of Japanese food. Trust us when we say this place tastes great! Our favorites were the unaju and the dragon roll. The unagi was incredibly silky soft and delicious!! It was actually better than some of the ones we tried back home. I recommend trying the half & half roll with the dragon and red dragon (pictured on the left). It's a great way to try different rolls. We also got the firecracker roll and the tempura appetizer. Both were also delicious! The tempura was just as good as back home. The restaurant was very clean and has a nice vibe to it. The food also came super fast! We came around 6:30 pm and it wasn't crowded. It got more busy around 7:30/8 pm.

Grilled Salmon Teriyaki
Zanita W.

I had the grilled salmon teriyaki and green tea cheesecake for dessert and it was really good. This restaurant makes it easy for people who don't regularly eat Japanese food to still find something delicious.

Jajang udon
Jessica Y.

Saica's expanded menu, newly renovated walls (there used to be tacky, smelly banner tarps), and supremely elevated customer service has made this a solid 5star eatery! We used to be regulars a year or two ago, but haven't been back recently until dinner Friday night...we were so WOW'ed we dinnered here Sat night. Shout out to JAY!!! for providing top service and allowing combo dish substitutions and bringing extras :D Like many other "Japanese" restaurants in the area, they also have an extensive Korean menu as well. Our dish faves: beef topokki, pork jajang udon, chicken katsu curry, unagi don, soft shell crab, and red/green dragon rolls.

Salmon nigiri (top), tamago egg sashimi (middle), salmon sashimi (bottom), spicy salmon temaki (right).

Thankfully my husband found a spot right on the street! I chose KBBQ for my birthday dinner and my husband found this place. They have a good variety of side dishes (pumpkin, mashed potato, spicy fish cakes, etc)! The food was good and we liked the meat! The brisket wasn't too thin and the steak was delish!! This place is aligned fairly well though with food in Korea though ie not highly westernized. This place is in the center of the college area on Liberty and State street. The selection is not extensive but the basics are here including BBQ. Side dishes are decent, Kimchi, which is fundamental to any Korean meal and varies by region, is always included and people have strong opinions about. Theirs is OK but not top notch. Other side dishes are decent. Whatever we ordered, BBQ, Yuk Gae Jang, Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap (Rice. Vegetables and beef inn stone pot), other was pretty good.....just like Seoul Garden used to be before ownership change. We used to go almost exclusively to Seoul Garden near the mall off Boardwalk but after ownership change stopped as the taste changed significantly and not for the better. Its nice to have The Seoul is an option. They have beer and soju (Ubiquitous Korean liquor in Korea that along with Kimchi is many Koreans blood) Environment of the restaurant is modern but still a bit cozy. Overall, definitely worth a try. While we are at it, I have spent allot of time in Japan on business (some vacationing too) and I know it's trendy to go there now especially with the exchange rate, and by all means go, allot to see and experience (and eat!) there. But don't overlook Korea. The two countries have a torrid history and don't want to admit they are similar in many ways....but they are and Korea is loaded with great places to go and food to eat. Traveling can be done on any budget, feel free to reach out if you want to learn more. Also love to hear from experienced travelers, love to learn of new places and things to do.

We hadn't figured out if we wanted to do Korean BBQ or not when we first arrived, but we ended up choosing from the lunch specials/combos menu which was a great value. Plus I can never decide what I want, so it was great to be able to get a combo with two different options. I went with the bulgogi/nengmyun combo and we also got an order of mandoo to share. Our server was super patient and helpful with navigating the menu. The food came out quickly and everything was pretty tasty - I loved the mandoo (dumplings) - they were big and filled nicely. The nengmyun was good, not the best version of this dish that I've had, but it's hard to find in my city so I was happy to have theirs. I loved the spicy pork bulgogi; super flavorful and not too spicy. Nate got the sundubu stew which was delicious and quite spicy! The portions were large, especially for the price. I always forget how great it is eating in college towns - things can be way cheaper! Parking here is a bit tricky as it is anywhere downtown, but we lucked out with a street meter nearby. I will definitely be back to Tomukun in the future.

The quality of the food is still amazing and worth a visit, but there were some items I wish stayed on the menu. For example, the spicy salmon crispy rice is no longer available and only available in the tuna form. The portions are also smaller, now coming in three small bites rather than the two big bites from before. The gochujang rigatoni and kimchi paella are also unavailable. Some new dishes I tried and loved were the short rib and the grilled octopus. The octopus was incredibly tender and I couldn't stop eating it! It also comes with delicious potatoes. The short rib was a larger portion and also tasted delicious. The rest of my table ordered the miso cod. The miso cod was delicious, but the portion was quite small and arguably not worth its price compared to the short rib. Cocktails that I recommend are The Gatsby and The Promised Neverland if you like sweeter drinks! For the service, we felt a bit rushed as we were dining. Normally the drinks come out followed by the appetizers, but our appetizers came first and the drinks came with our mains. I think there was a missed opportunity to sip on our drinks and chat with our party as we enjoyed the restaurant's ambience. Otherwise, the food came quickly and was well served.

It was restaurant weekend in downtown Ann Arbor and we didn't have a reservation, so we obliged, although the space was pretty empty. Once we got to the bar, the young waitress slammed menus down in front of us and acted extremely annoyed by our presence. After bothering us every minute for the next 5 minutes to order, me and my friend put in our orders in haste. We then waited for 30 minutes for our meals to arrive. I got the "Amazing Shrimp" sushi roll and my friend got the "Grilled Angus Short Rib". As noted on the menu it comes with Mashed Potatoes, Shishito Peppers, and Garlic Chives. Per my friend's request, the order did not come with the Shishito Peppers or Garlic Chives, but it also didn't have the potatoes. After asking for the potatoes, our server went back and we could hear her yelling at the kitchen staff. Minutes later she came out with a bowl of 3 potatoes, not mashed and not hot. My roll was great and I'd definitely order again if I come back, but I'm honestly not too inclined to after this experience. Lastly, the restaurant itself was freezing. It was a cold day but it was way colder inside than it should've been. We ended up keeping our coats on for most of dinner. I really do want to like it here because the vibe seemed very modern and clean, however the service, food, and level of professionalism fell short of my expectations.
