Wish I could give this place 10 stars!!!! Everything was so good and done right! First time trying Vietnamese food outside of the typical Pho and I was highly impressed. Food Wow, wow! Started with the Banh Knot and once I was shown how to set it up, it was incredible! From the crunch to the sweetness of the coconut milk and perfectly cooked shrimp. This along with the accoutrement was an excellent way to begin. Then onto to the Canh Ga Chien, went with the spicy tamarind sauce and these were cooked perfectly, as well. The sauce was a great combo of spicy/tangy/savory that paired well with the chicken. For an entrée, I suggest one of the vermicelli bowls because the meat has a certain marinade that I cannot pinpoint what's in it but it was a flavor I have not experienced before on beef. It just worked, beef was very tender, then you had the freshness of the cucumbers, carrots, the crunch from the bean sprouts and don't get me started on the fish sauce! That said, I have found that the pho broths are getting increasingly sweet. A little sweetness is perfect for balance but this last bowl I had was practically sugary and I found it to be much less enjoyable than usual. The food here is really great! I have been here a couple of times already and this my second favorite place in the 512 area for Pho! When you walk in they will greet you and sit in a booth or table. The ambiance of the place is open l, refreshing, and very clean. They have a great selection on the menu to choose from. Anything from Vietnamese to Chinese. A lot of nice appetizers to choose from. If you just go with their water for a drink, their water isn't too bad at all. They will provide you with limes upon request. They accept Apple or Google Pay, credit with tap capabilities. This place is the real deal, I just moved in the city and have been craving authentic Vietnamese food, so finding this place almost brought me to tears. The food is so delicious and they even have speciality dishes you will not find at every Vietnamese restaurant like bot chien which is one of my favorite dishes. It was a very clean place with a great atmosphere. It was modern, great ambiance, and the staff was awesome. I was also so amazed when all the food came out in 5-10 minutes. It was so delicious, it tasted as good as home cooked Viet food. Also the broth in the pho was great, which I believe is a good testament to how good the cooking is. Maybe I've been spoiled with amazing Vietnamese food in Houston or California and I came to Saigon 512 with high expectations due to the 4.5 stars shown on Yelp. The Bun Rieu lacked the essential pork and shrimp umami flavor leaving the broth so bland. Usually bun rieu has a meatball mixture made of ground pork and crab but Saigon 512's version was missing that. The banh cuon was just okay and the salad that accompanied it fell short since it didn't really compliment the dish as it should. Typically Banh cuon served with Thai basil, steamed bean sprouts and sliced cucumbers but they served it with mint, picked carrots and lettuce. The Banh xeo had nice presentation. Overall I felt the flavors didn't deliver like it should have and there's so much potential for them to kick it up a notch. read more

Food is delivered fresh and hot. Great spicy food, but you can get Sriracha if you need spicier. The egg rolls are fried, but it is a light batter, and they are tasty. Service is good and the music they play is wonderful. I would suggest the pinot noir not be served so chilled, though. read more

I've been trying every highly rated pho spot north of Austin and I just keep coming back to Saigon 512. Pho Dac Biet (Combination) - 5/5 : Their pho broth is consistently rich and yummy. The portion of meat they give is generous and fresh. The tripe tastes clean and the tendon is soft. My one issue is I wish they served more herbs with their pho. They only offer basil (along with the usual bean sprouts, jalapeño, and lime). If only they added culantro (not to be mistaken with cilantro!) and mint to the mix. But no one in Austin used these herbs as far as I've found so... Banh Khot - 5/5 : This has become an obsession of mine! They are Vietnamese crepes with shrimp and coconut. You dip them into what I presume is a fish sauce and the flavor is amazing!! Not to mention the wonderful crunchy texture. It's creamy but not heavy - the fatty coconut and fried flavors are countered by the acidic and fresh vegetables. The waiters are attentive and friendly. The restaurant is always clean too even though they're busy every time I go. I've ordered takeout from them recently too and it was a very efficient process! I highly recommend trying Saigon 512 if you've been searching for a pho spot to make your regular. read more

This restaurant does not serve actual authentic Vietnamese dishes despite its name. We came on an afternoon Wednesday and had lots of disappointment. Food: We ordered Phở with tai, gau, and bo vien ($15) and Bun thịt nướng chả giò ($13). For preface, my family and I are from Vietnam, so we know what real and authentic Viet foods taste like. I will tell you that these dishes are not authentic. For the pho, the broth was cloudy (i sent a photo of the pho to a friend who is not fully Viet, and the first thing my friend pointed out was the cloudy broth). This is due to unskilled cooking. The meats were kind of smelly, not prepared properly. The bun thit nuong was the biggest disappointment. The rice noodles were dry and rubbery instead of being moist and dense. Might be because they pre-boiled the noodles and left them in the fridge, only taking them out when someone orders them. The meats, to be frank, so bad. Bun thit nuong literally means grilled meat with rice noodles. The meats in this dish WERE NOT GRILLED (owner confirmed this). Owner actually also messaged me (messaged attached in Vietnamese) saying that the reason why their meats aren't grilled, like they said, is because apparently the majority of their White Americans customers are workers who only have 30 minutes during lunch, so the restaurant doesn't have time to actually grill the meat. She also said that since many of her white customers don't know how to cook Viet food, they're "easy" and just eat whatever tastes good. So yes, the meats were confirmed to be grilled and not braised. The meats were literally braised and caramelized to give the effect that they were grilled (THEY WEREN'T). Also you can tell this because after mixing up the meats and the noodles with fish sauce, the noodles literally turned brown. The meats didn't even taste good (like i had to force myself to eat them). Back to fake grilled meat, you're telling customers it's grilled meat while it's not?? isn't this scamming and deceiving lol. Also, popular Vietnamese restaurants that serve bun thit nuong and grilled meat still grill their meats. Like they get massive number of customers per day and still grill their meat properly. Grilling meat doesn't take that long??? Service was meh. I was kind of confused when I went inside the restaurant because the place was so empty (only 1 other customer there). Atmosphere was meh. Anyway, I wouldn't come back and wouldn't recommend a friend here. read more

I've been hearing so many great things about this pance and today was finally my turn to give it a try! The restaurant is located on a big plaza, with a plenty of parking spaces in front of the store. We arrived around 630pm, and it was just about 10% occupancy. The crowds started to flood in around 7pm but you should still be able to get seats without making reservations in advance. The servers are all friendly and attentive. They offered to let us pick the table and the water was served right away (with straws on the side). We ordered Pho, Banh Cuon, Banh Bot Chien, Bun Bo Hue, and Bun Rieu. The appetizer, Banh Bot Chien, was soooo good and a MUST order. I also highly recommend their Bun Bo Hue. You get very generous portion with a huge pork hock and a lot of beef. The broths are super yummy and the whole bowl is just impeccable! Will surely come back again. read more

The vermicelli bowl had all the right components and the quantity was fine but I have definitely had tastier. The pho was gulped up by our child. My husband enjoyed the banh cuon is what my husband seeks out anywhere they offers it. He enjoyed it. The shaken beef (bo luc lac) was a tad bit under seasoned and not super tender - but it wasn't tough. I wouldn't order it again but my husband ate it. Overall we will be likely order from them again but it's not my favorite spot for Vietnamese. For $100 including tip, we fed 2 adults and 2 kids both dinner last night and lunch today. It is not your typical pho restaurant because they serve real authentic Vietnamese cuisine. The dishes you would get if mom or grandma was making it. Food came out pretty quick. Soup taste on sweeter side for Bun Bo Hue. Catfish soup has one big chunk of fish and tail part of catfish. Rice roll used nice noodle which is not as fresh but still ok. The atmosphere is casual with several large tables which were accommodating for large groups as well the availability of smaller tables & booths around the perimeter. Found this new spot (opened three weeks ago) in the Community Impact email listing new restaurants to try 2/23/23. Went for lunch and tried the basil chicken and jalapeño pork lunch specials which came with choice of rice and three soup options. The hot and sour soup was EXACTLY AS IT SHOULD BE MADE and is rare to find. The color was amber, the tofu chunks were small enough so as not to be overpowering and the broth was the perfect balance of spicy. Definitely would order again. The chicken and pork dishes were cooked perfectly too. The pork was cooked through but tender and not tough the way overly cooked protein can be. The veggies I had included a nice mixed of carrot strips, broccoli florets, pea pods and fresh mushrooms all perfectly cooked. Neither too hard nor mushy. Really a perfect meal and well worth it. I had leftovers for dinner so the portion was large. The menu isn't inexpensive but the quality is the best I've had in many years of trying local Asian fare. The reviews here had me extremely optimistic. Upon arrival we were greeted by the sweet waitress that helped us find a table and took our drink order right away. The menu had a good variety of Vietnamese options, although there's no bánh mi sandwiches. (Sorry if that's what you're looking for ) I got a pretty basic grilled chicken vermicelli bowl, which is something I usually get at all Vietnamese restaurants. The chicken was a bit gummy in my opinion, though the flavor was nice. For me, I need diced jalapeños or chili oil, something hit to balance the sweetness of the grilled onions and carrots. I couldn't put my finger on it in the moment but it was very flat. We asked for chili oil but there was no spice and only got a small bowl. Maybe I need more heat than most but this still wasn't enough. If you don't like spicy food, you might love it! I am just used to fresh diced jalapeños and chili oil, maybe sriracha and fish oil- all the spices.... A bit expensive for the quality in my opinion but I only tried this one dish. Canh chua really hit the spot. It reminded me of my grandmas home cooking. It's a little on the sweeter side. Pho was good, you can taste more of the cinnamon in this clean broth. Not applying it's sweet or anything, but definitely aromatic! Banh cuon was my least favorite, but presentation was great!
