Wow, you walk by and you are not sure how is this Vietnamese place in Newport with a modern twist atmosphere but more like a juice vibe going to be. We took a chance and are so happy we did. The crispy egg rolls with meat are to die for, probably the best we have ever had and we have been in a lot of places in Westminster/Little Saigon. My husband ordered the Banh Mi sandwich and OMG the pork belly was out of this world, sooooo good, I kept asking him to have one more bite My son and I ordered Pho with filet and brisket and it was very good, the meat was thinly sliced and super fresh, it was perfect! So you visit a quaint California beach town like Newport Beach and the first thing you DON'T think of is Vietnemese Brisket sandwiches with cold brewed Cafe Du Monde New Orleans Chicory Iced Coffee. The thing is -- -- maybe you should. Because it was terrific. And so was my partner in crimes vegan Jackfruit sandwich that looked like pulled pork. And those coffees?!? WOW. Before we went we parked in front of a beach burger joint. The burgers actually looked refreshingly HEFTY. Not stuffed with crap but just big burgers. Our trip from LA to the way overcrowded Balboa Penninsula on a Memorial Day weekend would have been a total bust had it not been for Saigon Beach Restaurant! A simple Yelp search and SBR popped up with loads of stars and Yelp accolades. Parking was extremely difficult so we parked about a half mile away in a public lot. It was worth the walk. I was expecting a "restaurant" but this is the kind of place where you order at the counter. There are just a few tables and they're hard to get. There are also some stools to sit on. Seems like most people took their food to go. It's really busy. A steady stream of Saigon Beach Restaurant love comes through the door and they all seem to be regulars. I loved the food, but not five stars worth, but certainly good and good enough to go back again. The clear winner was the Fresh Spring Rolls. $5.95 for two good sized rolls. If I ever went back, I'd probably just get a couple orders of these spring rolls and be extremely satisfied. They are the best spring rolls I've ever had. We also tried: - SBS Stew. $8.45. It's very basic. I'd say pass on the stew. -420 Green RIce. $5.95. Named because of the color, not the THC content. Yes. -Steamed bun slider. Pork Belly. Two for $6.50. Good. Wouldn't get it again, though. To drink, I had a cucumber mint Limon-ade. $3.45. A little too sweet to taste the cucumber and mint. We were all really thirsty after we ate there. Not sure if it was because of the salt content because none of the items we ate tasted salty. Super nice staff. Good food, good people. I can see why so many people love this place. Review is for service and attitude only over the last few visits but the details below are specific to tonight. The food at this place is typically great and I have had plenty of good experiences in the past but not tonight and not over many recent visits. Tonight I started calling for take out at 812 and the phone was off the hook. After deciding to drive down to place my order I arrived at 826 to all of the stools up and a table half blocking the entrance. I walked in to be greated by "the grill is closed" I asked the grill or the restaurant? " The grill - no bahn mi, no pho baguette." Ok can I order other items? " Yes but no grill" I say ok and wait patiently. I ask, did you take the phone off the hook? I tried to call for 15 minutes. She answers " no, we were just really busy. Keep in mind, it's 826, the place closes at 9, the grill is shut down and all the tables are up and I am the only one on the restaurant. How busy were they? Finally after 2 or 3 minutes of watching the her clean the grill she comes to take the order. I decide to take the high road and still tip 20% for take out. Of course, no thank you. Ultimately, the 2nd girl who came from the back was pleasant enough and exchanged basic polite conversation. Bottom line....Service in this country sucks. The covid excuse has become bullshit. The majority of the work force wants to do nothing while being paid higher wages than ever before. They want you kiss their ass, give them 20% for lousy takeout service and thank them for coming to work to do a half-assed job. I won't typically rant like this but this was over the top bad service. To the owner, get your shit together and keep an eye on your place and your people. Update: 10 minutes later after driving home...... To top things off, after asking twice for extra sauce for the spring rolls and bao buns, I get home to have none, zero, not even one. I might be done with this place. read more

This place is sooo good! And it's a good price! Tried their green rice, their spicy soup, and their pork bao (sorry other than green rice, I forgot all the names of the items). There isn't much seating, so hopefully you can beat the lunch rush and find a seat. The soup was like a pho, the green rice was the perfect portion size to be satisfied and tasted great! The hype was real! Got 2 pork belly buns and those were really great! I had to take the pepper out for my daughter cause she can't take the heat... yet, but we're working on that. Haha. Parking could be bad on a weekend, but we came on a weekday and I think that made all the difference. You do have to pay for street parking so beware! This was our first stop in Newport Beach on a perfect sunny day. The place itself is very small and can probably fit at most 10 people. Luckily, you can also order things to go so you can enjoy the food on the beach nearby. Even though it is small, the place is decorated with funny puns about Vietnamese food. I ordered the famous 420 rice, which is cilantro rice topped with shredded chicken. The rice itself is very good and they even have burned pieces (my favorite) at the bottom.i wasn't a fan of the chicken as much because it was oltoo shredded for me and was a little mushy. You have the option of putting siracha on there and I highly recommend it as it enhanced the flavors greatly. My friend got a pork belly bao and beef brisket bao, which is not a typical Vietnamese food. Each bao is accompanied with the pickled veggies you find in banh mi. I personally like the pork belly better because of the plump juicy pork belly. My friend like the beef because she said it had more flavor. Service was great. The guy (assuming the owner) works hard to make sure everyone is satisfy and it shows. portion and price are good. After some summertime activities, we worked up the appetite for yummy food at this Vietnamese cafe. Only take out because there's no seating available, which was alright because we were headed home. I appreciated their vegan options. We ordered both tofu with mushrooms and other spring rolls, bang mi, sliders, and veggie pho Chay. Both banh mi and sliders were spicy. The fresh vegetables in the sandwiches helped balance the spice. Their sauce for the spring rolls was spicy if that's your kind of flavor. The overall favorites were the Nam Nam wings and the Sticky Rice Munchies, but the 420 Green Chicken Rice, Fresh Spring Rolls (we've had the vegan tofu & mushrooms and the shrimp & avocado) and Bao (we've had the jackfruit vegetarian and Grilled Turmeric chicken) were also good. We were driving up and down the PCH and decided to get some food, my wife found Saigon Beach Restaurant on Yelp so we decided to try it out. She saw the picture of the 420 green rice and was drawn to it. The location is awesome, surrounded by the beach and touristy areas, it's great to just walk around and enjoy the crowd. The restaurant is comfy, almost a little small, a couple of tables for 4 to 5 and some bar counter space. If there were more than 12-15 people in there at the same time, it would be crowded. It also helps that the staff is very friendly. We order a bunch to different stuff as I really wanted to try everything. Pork belly Banh Mi: Very good, pork belly had a good ratio meat and fat. Perhaps the sandwich could use a little more sauce or peppers, a wee bit dry. But, can't say I didn't enjoy the hell out of it. 420 Green rice: DELICIOUS!!! Just the right amount of spices and the right amount of pork topping. Think if I was to return, that would be the one thing bringing me back. Pork belly Bao: Very good, a bite size sandwich/bao with just enough meat, sauce, pickled carrots/turnip, and peppers. I think these folks rely on tourist dollars, more than reoccurring business from locals or they would do things a bit differently. I followed along with all the rave reviews and photos and we were not disappointed. What we ordered: 420 green rice with chicken and pork - delicious! When this dish arrived, we were told to flip the bowl over onto the lined metal tray, add siracha, mix and enjoy. It was wonderful! Pho baguette dip - who knew pho could taste so good in a sandwich? The bread soaks up the pho soup and it's a unique experience. I really liked this sandwich! Pork belly banh mi - very good. Bread is fresh and the meat is very tender. Saigon beach style ground pork eggrolls - 3 pieces with dipping sauce. These came out piping hot, freshly fried and crunchy. Also good! We really enjoyed the food here. We wish the portions were a little larger for the price, but regardless the food is excellent, service is friendly, and we know they've gotta pay for their real estate. After spending the day at Corona del Mar, we decided to come here, thinking that you could see the water and the sunset. Green rice with chicken- it was ok. Nothing fancy. Chicken was shredded. Lacked flavor. Considering it was their signature dish, I wasen't impressed. 2. Pork belly sliders- came with 2 in an order. Large strip of pork belly. Slightly on the spicy end. Pork belly was tender enough. Pretty good as a snack. 3. Saigon beach stew- this was a thick stew with your choice if bread or white rice oncthe side. Large pieces of beef and vegetables. The beef was also tender, and the stew was ok. Mixing it with the rice was really good. And can warm up the soul of need be. 4. Chicken wings- these wings were definitely 5 stars!! Tender and moist on the inside. The sauce on the outside was this sticky, salty (not too salty), and really well seasoned. If I had ordered the wings by themselves they would've definitely be a 5 star establishment!!! Then we ordered one of each of their lemonades (cucumber mint, passion fruit mango and strawberry peach). They were all really good and refreshing, especially walking up and down the coast. saigon beach is amazing. whenever i'm sick i always order the spicy lemongrass pho the vegan version and if i have it 3 days in a row i feel so much better. the 420 rice is also very very delicious i get the vegan one with the jackfruit because i don't eat meat. i love how there are many options for if you want meat, seafood or a vegan version because when it comes to my family my mom will get seafood, i'll get vegan and my brothers and dad will get all the meat options. the 420 rice also has one that comes with chicken on top instead of jackfruit. the service is always pretty fast i usually almost always order in and it takes like 15-20 minutes for my food to be ready. definitely will be coming back here until I die. read more

When I heard about this magical baguette banh mi pho dip, I was immediately intrigued... and made a point to come out to the locale and try it out! The space is small, but laid out to maximize seating. Most of the clientele coming in and out were taking orders to go. I put in my order for the pho dip and within 10 mins it was in front of me, with 2 complimentary spring rolls I might add! I opted to take the order to go and enjoy my lunch by the beach, just a couple blocks away. One bite into the sandwich and I was SOLD! The flavors were fire and on point! The bread was at that perfect crispy and chewy balance of goodness... sigh I was in heaven. And then I dipped the sandwich in the Pho and my mind was completely BLOWN! I cannot believe I had never thought of combining a banh mi with pho before! It is absolute genius and does not disappoint! My tastebuds were doing the ratatouille happy dance- I will be back just for this meal in the future. On a side note, the spring rolls were also delicious and a great accompaniment to the sandwich. I stopped here for lunch with some co-workers and we parked at one of the metered parking spots ($1.75 per hour). The restaurant is very small with seating for about 20 people max. Many of the customers were taking their food to go. The 420 Green Rice was listed as one of their top specialties. So I went with that and a banh mi. 420 Green Rice ($5.50) - This rice dish was made with cilantro and garlic, and reminded me of a similar rice dish that I have had at Peruvian restaurants. It was topped with some tender shredded chicken. I added some siracha sauce to the mix to give it a little bit of kick and bring out the flavor. I enjoyed eating this. Banh Mi ($5.50) - I opted for the shredded chicken banh mi which came on a 6" baguette, pickled carrots and jicama, cilantro, cucumbers, and jalapenos. The banh mi had good flavors and was on par with any banh mi one might find in nearby little Saigon. Overall the food was great and very reasonably priced, considering that this is Newport Beach. It's true that the same items will probably be 25% cheaper in little Saigon. Also, be aware that you should order more than 1 item, as the portions are smaller here. read more

I was also a little disappointed with the lack of mask enforcement for COVID-19. Honestly after seeing all the pictures and reading reviews i was let down. The place is open for takeout only and it only took about 20 minutes to cook our food. We got the wings, 420 saigon rice and two bao buns. The saving grace was the pork bao bun. I would give that five stars along. The other we tried was jackfruit, and seeing as they offer jackfruit substitution for all of their menu items i expected more. It was not good at all. I usually love foods with jackfruit but i couldn't finish this bao bun. The wings had a really good flavor, however the quality of the meat was really bad and felt as if they were just frozen wings. The rice was definitely tasty but they gave just one small thing of sriracha, so it was pretty dry. I really wish they had given us more sauce.
