I have been here a handful of times during the 'early bird' times (where everything is 20% off between 3pm-6pm - I don't know how long they will do this for), and I was pleased with the food. I've gotten the Singapore noodles twice; it is a large portion of food for a decent price, and is pretty tasty (and extremely greasy at that). I would go back for the noodles when I'm really hungry. I've also had the extra large portion of beef-ball pho; honestly, I was not blown away by the pho. I can't complain about it either though, it was a large portion, and tasted decent. I think you could find better pho elsewhere, but I wouldn't shy away from ordering it again. My only complaint, a minor one at that, is the service... the servers are quick and constantly checking to see if your water is filled and if you need anything, but they are not 'friendly' in the southern sense. I get a bad vibe from them sometimes, though I am sure they are not trying to be mean or rude on purpose; just a lack of smiles and quick to-the-point answers to questions. This place really deserves 3.5 stars... I am giving them a little extra credit due to the fact that they are really the only acceptible place for Pho anywhere near Decatur. If I really want my Pho fix of course, I would be driving all the way to Buford Hwy. But, that's besides the point... now to the actual review! I always get Pho here. They put a significant amount of meat in their Pho and most of it is quite good. Especially the beef brisket, fatty brisket, and beef balls. I am not a fan of their rare steak and I never get tendon or tripe so I can't comment on that. But again, the brisket and fatty brisket more than make up for it. Their broth is more than satisfactory. It isn't the best that I have had but has a decent amount of body to it. I normally ask for chili oil and that really helps as well. The problem I have with the place is that other things they have on the menu aren't that great. The fresh rolls are just okay, and last night we ordered the chicken satay and I would give it only 1 or 2 stars. Not inedible, but we were starving... My verdict is that I will still continue to go to Saigon Cafe if I really need a quick fix. If all you're looking for is a decent pho without having to drive all the way to Buford Hwy, then it is worth it. If this place was actually on Buford Hwy... I would not be going back. If you live in Decatur, it is a heck of a lot better than Noodle. read more

I was at Saigon Cafe at 1PM on a Friday. I was seated immediately and given water and a menu. Everyone I came in contact with was very friendly and helpful. I was initially overwhelmed by the huge number of menu items so I asked for a recommendation and went with it. The Com Bo Luc Lac was exceptional! It's filet mignon grilled to perfection with a light sauce, served over lettuce and sliced tomatoes. The dish also came with white rice and an egg roll. I will definitely order this dish again, but I want to go back and try other dishes, too. For drinks, they offer many options, but the restaurant does not serve alcohol. The space is very clean and welcoming. Parking is available in the strip-mall lot. read more

I have eaten Pho at many places around the city, including the hole in the walls on Buford Highway. Funny to mention Buford Highway, one of the patrons of Vietnamese decent actually recommended for us to go to Saigon Cafe! We of course told her it was a regular haunt for us. Saigon Cafe is definitely the best I have had in Atlanta. Anyway, the servers at Saigon cafe always recognize us and will even stay open if we come in a little late. It is an inexpensive way to fill your belly and very tasty too! Just a tip, get the large bowl of Pho and split it between two people. It will cost $10, what a great deal in this bad economy! Let me start by saying I was introduced to Pho here and have only had it at this location. I work in the area and live outside the area where there are no places serving pho. I am not Vietnamese and can't speak to any authenticity however the pho here is my favorite (of the places I've tried) - it lacks a fishiness that other places have. I would also get my beef on the side, and was impressed by the value. I loved this place but today they ruined it. Three of us went for lunch today and the place was about half full. My friends ordered a lunch special and a green curry, I ordered a medium Pho. My friend's meals came out in good time. They finished their plates while I watched. No one came to check on us. The plates were all stacked (semi-bussed) when my soup came. The waiter kind of chuckled. I don't know if was embarrassment but it rubbed me wrong. I told him I wanted it to go and that he should comp it. He put made it to go and then handed me the bill. I came here because I had an hour to kill and an empty stomach before my class. The atmosphere was pleasant- not your fanciest Asian joint around, but that's not the vibe they were going for either. It was cozy and 'homey,' and the servers were very kind and generous as well. I would recommend the Com bo luc lac (a tender, meaty dish). This place obviously isn't fine dining, but doesn't try to be- the prices are fair for what the food seems to be worth, and the free boba deal on Yelp was very much appreciated, too (who doesn't like free things?) I never knew that there was a saigon cafe around the corner. I've been in Decatur for a while and I never notice it until I heard about it from a friend. I tried their food for the first time and let me tell you, it was amazing!!!! I will definitely come back because not only that the food is great, the staffs are friendly, great service, as well as the great atmosphere all around. This restaurant does not have a gluten free menu or even gluten free items, as indicated in one of the reviews. The wait staff was pretty clueless about what gluten free means. The only thing they could say is that the rice noodles are gluten free, but they didn't even know if the charbroiled chicken contained gluten. The food was pretty good, but I felt sick the next day. Please don't say in your reviews that a place is good for people on a gluten free diet unless you know that for a fact. read more

The phö at this place was AWESOME. Andre (Vietnamese man named Andre... Go figure right? Lol) was our server and he was excellent! The only reason why I give this place 4 stars is because the bubble tea isn't the greatest. The first one I got didn't have ice in it at all and was overly sweet. Ning, the hostess, was very nice and asked if I wanted her to re make it. The second one was better, but I've had much better bubble tea. No wonder why you get a free one through Yelp. Someone may have to pay you to drink it. The other reason I gave 4 stars is because the crab ragoon a.k.a. Cheese puffs were fried so hard that my tooth almost cracked when I took my first bite. The women (Ning and Melissa) who take my to-go order at the front are always so polite and ask me how I am doing and how my week has gone. I'm sorry but you can't find authentic Vietnamese here. I've been there maybe 10 times with friends -- just because it's close. They are stingy on the meat. This place has a great decor but awful food. I ordered the Thai BBQ chicken and I think prisoners get better quality meat than this. All dark and very bitter from the braising. It smelled so bad like burnt hair. I was looking at it with so much disgust a waiter asked me if everything was ok and I told him about the problem. I asked if I could try something else so I got the chicken pad thai. The smell was sickening like someone washed their feet with the noodles so i picked through it trying to find any chicken and to see what the source of the smell was. The whole experience was awful. I will never go back. The dishes besides tasting bad had very little taste or flavor that hinted what it was you were eating. As I am writing this I still can't get the taste off of the back of my tongue. YUCK!!! I HAD ABOUT THREE BITES OUT OF EACH DISH AND THEN I ASKED FOR THE CHECK AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN SAY I AM SORRY OR ANYTHING AND PROCEEDED TO TAKE MY MONEY. TL;DR (skip and read last sentence) I admit, I'm easily turned off by mixed reviews on yelp, so when I came here to read the reviews, I was a bit surprised at the mixed ratings. I JUST came back from dining there and I thought it was so delicious, that it deserved my first review on Yelp. My boyfriend and I were craving pho so our plan was to stop by the record store right in the same strip and head on over to another restaurant for pho, but the record store had yet to open up... thankfully, we stopped by the strip, otherwise we wouldn't have noticed Saigon Cafe at all. We stopped in to see what was up while we were waiting on the record store to open, and I'm very happy with the choice to come in. We both ordered Pho Dac Biet in sizes small and medium. Being familiar with pho bowl sizes, I knew size small would be filling enough without being overstuffed and it was exactly that. The medium size is pretty filling and the prices were very reasonable for the amount they give you. The broth is very rich and I like that they already have a sauce and chili tray set out on the table for you if you need to add a little extra. I've always been big on add-ons, but honestly, the broth was good as is. Very flavorful. I also liked their very elaborate menu of Thai and Vietnamese. They have photographs of each dish and a very thorough descriptions. It was pretty smart of them to add photos for people who aren't accustomed to eating Thai and Vietnamese cuisine. I feel like just having the name of the dish deters away "comfortable eaters" from trying new foods, but looking at the menu, it's really hard to decide because everything looks and sounds so good. Seriously, the menu is like reading food porn. After this experience, I'll be a little more open to jumping in a restaurant that has mixed reviews on Yelp. Yelp can be persuasive, but mixed reviews can just come from a factor of different reasons. Some people might have had different chefs and/or servers which might've been the reason for their unsatisfactory visit, but that definitely was not my visit. One of my favorite spots to have lunch. the prices are very reasonable, and the food amazingly fresh and delicious. the decor is a bit manufactured and tacky, and the staff a little "dry", but all of that fades away when that steaming bowl of noodles, fresh spring rolls (in rice paper wrap, or fried), or even traditional Chinese fare hits your table. Really disappointing. Food was eh, service was atrocious! We went there for lunch this weekend. I had the pho, the wife had bun. The pho was OK, but bland. It was nothing to whine about, but it definitely did not stand up to the competition. My wife's bun was bad, as she put it, the shrimp was inedible. The service really gets bad marks because it was so offensively hurried! Either, A) our server hated us, B) she was trying to go home or C) she had NO EARTHLY IDEA how to wait tables! The pho came out before the appetizer was finished (the rolls were bad too.) Then I had to sit there and look at my pho, while we waited for my wife's meal to come out. Now, pho is a meal that I think should be slowly enjoyed, savored even. I mean, even a small is huge, and hot. Cant really rush that. Just slowly add fresh herbs ect. and hang out and soak it all in. I was not even half way through when I looked up and the waitress had removed the rest of my sprouts and herbs and replaced it with the bill!! Now ask anyone, I am always the fastest eater at any table, (regardless of my spiel about pho savoring.) That stuff should not have been taken, no stolen, from me. I was mad, but do I really have to go crying to earn the honor of finishing the food that had been served to me? I could have whined and found a manager, but this is better, at least I didn't ruin my Saturday haggling about all these little problems that added up to a horrible meal.
