Sam is the man! I came into this restaurant Sunday at 8:50pm. I was thinking "man this place is probably closed" that's when Sam appeared from behind the counter and asked how he could help me. I asked him if he was still open and he told me that he could do takeout. So I ordered food for myself and my girlfriend. We have never had some food this fresh, we can taste how the veggies were freshly cut and my garlic chicken noodles were cooked with perfection. We were greeted warmly and exchanged some laughs with the waiter, who we later learned runs the restaurant with his little sister. What a family! Both are so lovely and exude positivity and warmth! For my 400th, Three Star review, I'm sorry to share with you a newly opened place. I dropped by Saigon District that is housed in a spot that has been many places before. Its located on Magnolia near Garfield in HB in a strip mall that also contains previously reviewed Fitzgeralds and Sushi Top. SD is actually facing the street vs the other places that are towarda the middle of the mall. We started off w/ the egg rolls ($2.95 | two pieces) [sorry, I forgot to take a pic]. For my entree I had the côm cá salmon nuông ($9.50 | grilled salmon over rice w/ nuôc mâm). My rellies ordered com tâm gà and shrimp fried rice (no pics, forgot the prices). First of all, the egg rolls were OK. I don't like egg rolls w/ batter on the side. I much prefer the smooth skinned ones. In addition, the seasoning in the meat was bland: 3 Stars. Secondarily, the salmon was basically a small piece of salmon teriyaki. You can get twice as much fish for the same price in GG or Westminster. The rice was also bland: 3 Stars. Regarding the ambiance, the bar is a big focus as you walk in. There is a big TV that faces the main dining area: 3 Stars. We were served by whom we believe is the owner. She was friendly and efficient. Additionally, the food came out quickly. If you want some Americanized Viet food, SD does the trick. Outstanding local spot where you would never realize how good the food is from the outside. Nice trendy interior style with its unfinished ceiling painted all black. However, the food is the star. I can't really describe why the filet mignon fried rice is so good but when you have it fresh from the kitchen the flavor is just so well balanced that your carb restricted diet goes flying out the window. I just can't stop shoveling it in my mouth. The cilantro is a perfect topping and the meat is juicy and tender. It was so good, I didn't even get a picture. (I know, right??) The appetizer platter was pretty good. The Fusion wings are incredible and the pork spring rolls are awesome. The fried shrimp was also delicious. Sauces were not up my alley but maybe I just needed to fiddle with them a little. Shrimp tacos were really good as well. We got 3 orders of them (2each). The Vietnamese salsa balanced it well. The Pho was decent but not unique. It did hit the spot and balance out the rest of the meal. They are closed on Tuesdays. Parking is plentiful. Try it out!! I want to keep coming to this place, but the quality has gotten worse with each visit. My boyfriend and I stopped by this place in early May for the first time. As we entered the building, a drunk couple from the neighboring bar were attempting to haggle for a better price point on a large order of egg rolls. They were very upset about the price and demanded a discount for the quantity of purchase, threatening to go elsewhere. The woman helping was as cool as could be and she defended her food, that the price was due to the high quality. Finally, a price was agreed upon and the couple asked if the 30 some egg rolls could be ready by 4 (spoiler alert, I left at 4:30 and they still hadn't shown up for their order) We were waited on by the same woman and she apologized for the interaction. We commended her for being so reserved in the face of their arrogance and also asked if we could try the egg rolls. Once you try them, it's clear why this appetizer was so fiercely debated! My boyfriend and I both fell in love with the perfectly crispy, bubbly exterior and juicy filling. The secret seems to be the absence of cabbage; it keeps the outside crackly while the inside doesn't suffer from runny, wet veggies. The woman also suggested I try a small bowl of their pho, which I happily obliged. I have nothing but praise for their rich and delicious broth - I've since visited twice and ordered a full size bowl for myself. For our entrees, my boyfriend ordered the Chinese fried rice from the specials board - it touted chicken, shrimp, sausage, BBQ pork and veggies. He was thrilled at the idea of a meat and veggie fried rice - unfortunately, there wasn't a single piece of chicken in his rice, at all. We thought to bring this up, but our service was so nice that we kept it to ourselves (when we were leaving, my boyfriend mentioned how much he liked the BBQ pork, and the woman made a suggestion for our next visit - the BBQ pork with garlic rice and eggrolls) I ordered the garlic noodles with shrimp and veggies. The shrimp were grilled and so delicious, but the noodles were lacking a strong, saucy garlic flavor. Still good, but not garlicky enough. Stumbled upon this restaurant when I was running errands nearby. When I scanned it on my yelp app, it scored surprisingly high at 4.5 stars. Not an easy feat in Yelp world i might add. That said, I made a quick left and made my way towards the restaurant. It was located in a small strip mall adjacent to the Home Depot, which had unnecessarily vicious speed bumps, but I digress, let's fast forward to when I enter the restaurant. As soon as I entered, I noticed the restaurant was completely empty but again it was 3:45pm. There was a man sitting by the bar with an apron on. I figured, based upon his attire, that he worked there. He walked over and offered me a seat by the window, which I kindly accepted. Upon sitting, I scoped the scene. The most notable aspect of the restaurant had to be the expansive bar. With at least a dozen trendy pendant lights dangling above and purple hued bar lighting glowing over the bar stools, it was difficult to not notice it. I must say It added a trendy flair to the rest of the restaurant, which seemed a lot less exciting. Onto the food, the menu was comprised of mostly standard Vietnamese fare like Pho, Cold Noodle Dishes, and Rice Dishes. It also included pasta and burgers, as well. To be honest, I started getting lost in the menu after awhile. It was almost like a diner menu that included everything but the kitchen sink. When I get that many choices, I start getting overwhelmed. What can I say, I'm a Libra. Sue me. When the man came back to see if I was ready to order, I was lost. At this point, i needed assistance, so i asked for the customers' favorites. He said the favorite was the pho. Tbh, I was hoping for a more exciting option since it was a fusion type restaurant but hey, when in Rome, so I went with the chicken pho. For the sake of adventure, I added the chicken lettuce wraps with romaine to my order. Dangerous, I know. The pho arrived soon after and it was a very deep brown color. I thought to myself, "wow, this bone broth must have been simmering for days!" At first sip, I realized why it was so dark. They added the hoisin sauce in advance, which I didn't mind at all. Saved me a step. As other reviewers mentioned tho, the fresh basil was lacking. The portions were generous and they used white meat chicken, which I appreciated. Overall, it was a solid bowl of pho. They didn't serve ginger nuoc cham like the OG joints but they did offer their own concoction, which was surprisingly good! The chicken lettuce wraps arrived glistening on a platter with rough cuts of romaine lettuce. I was full but it looked enticing, so i dove in. The chicken was well seasoned and paired perfectly with the crisp romaine. I couldn't finish it, so the man kindly packed it up for later. Overall, I had a good experience here. Was it mind blowing? Not necessarily but I would come back because the food was solid and it was a great option if i got lost in Huntington Beach and had an immediate hankering for Viet food. Until then... This building has finally turned into a place that can last. In my 14 years in HB, the building has housed a lot of "a SWING and a miss..." kind of places. Numero Uno, Reef's Edge, Catalina Fish Kitchen and assorted fusions of different menus and owners. It seemed like overnight they had a new place up and running in Saigon Noodle. Reef's End spent a boatload on a remodel so Saigon did not have to do much. It's just beautiful in here. The focus is on the giant bar and huge HD flatscreen, unlike most of the modest pho joints farther north of HB. It is a shithole of a stripmall compared to others in town but 2/3 of the businesses have been here long term. How this place fits into conservative, white, BroCity remains to be seen. Fortunately, they have two things beyond the beautiful building going for them. A very eclectic menu and a killer beef pho. Lots of Vietnamese choices, salads, pho, hot and cold appetizers no entrees. A good selection without resorting to Pastrami, tacos, hot dogs and pizza. I hate when a place offers too many different cuisines trying to satisfy everyone. Vegan patties at In n Out will never work, people. The fact that's it's more upscale than most pho houses and offers an eclectic menu, it may have the crossover appeal needed to survive in this location. Service was warm and attentive. My wife, while not a huge pho fan, greatly enjoyed tasting my pho and her Asian chicken salad. I thought my rare beef, brisket, trip and flank steak was excellent. Just a killer broth. Thoroughly unimpressed. Food was blah, very much made for a bland pallette. Wanted a vegetarian bahn mi and they wouldn't do it although it would have been easy. Bathrooms were filthy. Scallion pancakes had not ONE scallion, was told it was people couldn't handle the strong taste of scallions. Odd. The lemongrass tofu didn't seem to have any lemongrass. I love this place! My fiancé and I frequent here all the time. They've had a change in ownership and the new owner Rachel has done amazing work with updating the space and menu. She is very kind and her pho is amazing! We bring our friends here all the time and everyone has loved whatever they order. We usually get the pho and either egg rolls or spring rolls. Atmosphere: very spacious & well-lit. I don't normally take pics of places' bathrooms, but I contemplated doing so for this place since it was so big and a lot cleaner than your average public bathroom. The decor isn't gaudy either. Food: A disappointment. I ordered the garlic rice with KBBQ short ribs dish. The garlic rice is great, but the KBBQ short ribs are not kbbq short ribs. They use the same meat as Korean short ribs, but the way they cook/marinate it is NOT. I immediately noticed the odd reddish color of it when it came out and was skeptical. Not sure what they did to it but they shouldn't call it korean short ribs. It was an interesting sweet taste sometimes, kind of salty at others so I can only attribute this to an uneven marinating. They're very generous with the amount of garlic rice though, which again was very yummy. The mi xau goin with shrimp & veggies. They only had 4 shrimps and the veggies were scarce. The dish itself was also disappointing. The pho was alright though, they're generous With the proportions here, just lacking veggies again. Service: the main reason why this isn't a 2 star review is because the service was great. Staff was super friendly and prompt at serving us. Been thinking about coming here for over a year now since it's only a mile from my home. I didn't want to make the drive to Westminster where it is the only place to get great pho. I'm always disappointed when I go anywhere else. I had the pho dac Viet, which has the tripe. The bone broth was surprisingly good; however, this was the only good part of the dish. The meats were small and sparse. They gave very little sprouts and greens. The noodle is not fresh and is clearly packaged. It was hard and flavorless. The spring rolls was not great either. My 3 year old daughter liked their fries. I really wanted to like this place. If in a pinch and didn't want to drive far than maybe I'll come back. read more

I've ordered this food several times now and it has been so bad tonight. I ordered it my husband got fried rice. He said it was absolutely horrible. I got the vegetarian soup and the chicken was like pressed chicken. It was terrible. My dog would not even eat it. The broccoli in the soup was so bad you might as well have cut it up and just put it in the soup it was raw, we ordered egg rolls and they were smaller than my pinky finger we ordered calamari you might as well just give me a rubber band let me chew on a rubber band because that's what they tasted like the only thing was good was the potstickers and the broth in the soup this is just uncalled for we spend our money in. I've tried shrimp spring roll, ga pho, lemongrass chicken and rice, deluxe fried noodle, and com bo luc lac (shaken beef), a few have to be done with gluten free ingredients. Everything has been excellent! I can't tell you how long it's been since I've had an egg roll and their sweet and sour sauce is delicious!! I plan to try the Korean bbq with garlic fried rice, dumplings, and teriyaki chicken that can be made gluten free. People here are friendly and very helpful. I would not have known that there are so many gluten free options just looking at their menu but talking with the owner she really can make a lot of the menu GF. Tender and tasty shaken beef. We came a bit before 6 pm. Few guests and we had prompt and friendly service. When the waiter saw I was chilly asked if we wanted the front entrance door closed. He also suggested ginger honey tea. That was very satisfying and warms you up. Though my spouse found the pho broth a bit sweet tasting and the only provided with a small portion of bean sprouts, I thought it tasted ok.
