Had a craving for pho and wasn't disappointed. The broth was delectable- beefy with a delicate touch of star anise. I ordered rare steak with mine and the meat was a generous portion of paper thin slices of lean, tender beef. A lady came out to check on me and she suggested I dip my meat in a mixture of hoisin, sriracha and chile oil. It really enhanced the soup flavor. My only issue was the waiter. He seemed more interested in his phone than serving customers. But I will definitely return for the pho. It's well worth it. read more

The Grilled Pork dish did was different. Sliced pork were used instead pieces of pork on skewers were served for this dish. This is fine, except the pork was very dried, salty & has no flavors. This dish normally has lemongrass used as a main herb. Being Vietnamese, I thought for sure they would not serve me pieces of pork marinated in mostly salt. I could not use the fish sauce on the noodles because the pork was so salty! The Noodle was stale/sour & on the verge of going bad. I guessed this is not a popular dish to order. The Pho (13) had a very mild flavor, but very salty as if there was not enough spices or bones were used to cook the broth and salt was used to "flavor" the broth. Sufficient meat & vegetables were served. My husband & I shared the 2 dishes for lunch (12:30pm ish) yesterday, Sunday. Oddly, my husband was still not hungry at dinner time. He complained of bloating & having gas. He could not sleep the entire night! It's MSG. We are not sure which dish had it and how much. I was bloated, but I thought maybe I drank too much water? I drank 1/2 liter of Fiji water after we left. Continue to drink & finished out the 1 liter of water. I did wake up today with the weird sensations in my mouth, yup, MSG. Read great reviews before coming here, really want to like this place. It is very clean, even by Asian standards. The server was not great, he threw the silverware & napkins on the table, in front of my husband. He was a bit abrupt & short. Gee, I wasted my Vietnamese on him. I normally just stick to speaking English. Hate to say this, but most Asians establishments don't care to see mix race couples in their restaurants. Ashamed. 2 stars for the elderly lady (like a grandma) who came out to say hello to the 4 tables after we were almost done. I did not have the heart to say anything to her. I just thanked her for the food while she cleaned the table & my husband went to the men's room. She did not even looked at me. Nor responded. That's ok, generation difference. We stopped here for a quick bite to eat on a Sunday early afternoon. I was craving some pho and needed something spicy! I ordered the pho with half meat and half vegetables, and my friend ordered the coconut curry soup with chicken. Our food was brought out within 10 minutes (we were there not too long after they opened). I have been to numerous pho places and wanted to try the pho here. The servings are large and my bowl had a great mix of veggies and meat. The pho was good, but, I thought the broth was too greasy for my liking. You could see the oil in the broth. I am not sure if the broth is made in house or not. The meat was an interesting texture. But the veggies were great and they gave plenty of pho condiments (basil, lime, cilantro, bean sprouts, and jalapeño). I had a bite of the curry soup and it too had "low quality" chicken. As for the service, it was great. There is a lady who came to our table towards the end of our meal and she was super nice. I would possibly go back but would try a veggie dish of some sort. read more

This is the absolute, without a doubt, best place to get pho in Albuquerque and quite possibly New Mexico. Clear non-greasy broth, tons of meat and noodles and fantastic service. They never forget to refill your water and are always available when you need something during your meal. Prices are great, about $9 a bowl of soup and they have tons of options. There was a time, I hate to say it, but quite some ago, when Saigon used to be my go to place for Vietnamese. Now I would say I only mange to stop by a couple time a year. I recently made a visit with an old coworker of mine. Of course we were both on our lunch breaks so it was easy for us to pick a place we both like and are familiar with the menu. The rare beef pho or the grilled pork chops served with broken rice are what I would order almost every time. Today, I wanted to something else, I had a hankering for some stir fry noodles with veggies. So let's talk a bit about the lunch service. They were busy, which is always a nice sign for any restaurant. It is seat yourself, so choose wisely! You will have no one to blame but yourself should you be dissatisfied with your selection. Ha! Our order was taken promptly and we were served waters immediately too. Thanks! Although, that is probably where the stellar service ended. We waited so long for everything. Not to mention we ordered two orders of spring rolls and were only brought one. The stir fry noodles were not even mixed together. The noodles were in a clump on the bottom of the plate, covered with veggies and pieces of beef and seafood. I had to dig the noodles out. It was a lot of work. Kind of messy. The bell peppers were still super crisp too, like they didn't really feel the heat of the pan. Not cooked at all. I had to pick them out. I've ordered this dish before. It's usually very good. This time though. It just wasn't. It was anything but good. Boo. I'm just fortunate I was there with company. At least had great conversation and laughs to kill the time we had to wait for mediocre meals. Next time I come, it will not be on the lunch hour. I've been here a couple times now and have always been pleased with the food. I mostly come here for the #13, which is the rare beef Pho, and it never disappoints. We came for lunch the other day, and it was really busy, however, the service was still pretty good and our food came out quickly and hot! I've tried MANY vietnamese places in this town, and this one is right up there with the best of them. The atmosphere/decor is nothing special ( as in most authentic places), but we come for the food, and that's what counts. Everytime I visit Albuquerque or even driving anywhere near ABQ, the mandatory need for Vietnamese is right here! They have been open about 6 or 7 years and continue to serve high quality and authentic Vietnamese food. I have tried many items on this menu and all are excellent. I am not a Pho lover so I haven't ordered their Pho to give a review. The dishes that I recommend: roasted quail, stewed catfish, papaya salads, all broken rice dishes and the hot tamarind soup (canh chua). Came down with that funky stomach virus that had been circulating over the holidays on what was supposed to be my last night visiting The Land of Enchantment. Ain't nothing enchanting about simultaneous dysentery and vomiting over a 48 hour span. Canceled my flight. Ate nothing. By Day 3, I craved soup. Enter Saigon. Creating a soup base for Pho is a tiresome endeavor requiring hours worth of bone and marrow boiling, roasting and toasting of vegetables & spices, and an intricate dance of taste-testing in-between. A not-so-recent nor desirable trend among Vietnamese restaurants is to use the commercially available instant Pho cubes in the interest of time. This is blasphemy and a similar conspiracy is occurring in the culinary underbelly of seedy Sul Rong Tang joints. In my state, I couldn't tell whether that was the case here, but there was something homeopathic about this broth so I"ll give Saigon the benefit of the doubt. Like others have said, this place has friendly service. The atmosphere is akin to an 80's Chinese restaurant: adorned with semi-circle booths and free calendars from the local Asian market. Phô to the rescue! A sicky sore throat day called for some yummy soothing soup, and this place fit the bill. Saigon's is light enough in the broth category without sacrificing too much flavor, served steaming hot with the usual accompaniments. Mine was a bit light on the beef, but what WAS there was high quality and beautifully rare when served. The beef rolls were artfully presented and flavorful. Not such a fan of the shredded pork spring rolls---too much lettuce, and the gummiest peanut sauce I've ever encountered. My ice water tasted heavily of bleach (?!) so I stuck to the creamy, not-too-sweet avocado shake, a treat I will definitely go back for. read more

I usually like to write up a detailed pho review but I just don't think this really even rises to that level. Honestly, their pho was really lacking in flavor. It wasn't salty so that's good but there could have been so much more flavor. And, there was a small layer of oil. Pho in Albuquerque is like beer. There is so much good stuff available that it is hard to imagine why you would go to somewhere sub par. Yelp describes two stars as "Meh, I've experience better" and true to that, there is much better out there. I recently started a new job nearby and was in the mood for some Vietnamese food for lunch. I found this little place tucked away in a strip mall and figured I would give it a try. The place was busy during this Friday lunch hour, which I took as a good sign. Following the advice of a fellow Yelper I ordered the No. 32 - Vermicelli with Grilled Pork and Prawn. I was a little nervous having a sit-down lunch on my one hour lunch break but the service was very prompt (not exactly friendly, but not rude) and my food came out in less than 10 min. The vermicelli was different from any I've had before, the noodles were much more sticky but the flavors of the pork and prawn were very good! The portion was also smaller than I've come to expect but it was the perfect size for lunch. However, for my one dish, the bill came to around $10 which I though was a bit steep for the amount of food. If you're in the neighborhood, this place is worth a try. But there are plenty of other Vietnamese places in Albuquerque that give you more bang for your buck! read more

I've been here for pho many times. I would prefer a bit more stuff on the veggie plate, but it's not skimpy. There is a decent amount of beef in the soup and the flavor of the broth is quite good. The service is prompt and efficient. Once I had a dish of barbecued beef wrapped around onions. The beef was tasty and the rest of the plate was in proper order, but make sure you like onions if you order it. There was no obvious way to remove any of the onion from the rolls, so I ate it all. I'd have to say it was probably the most onions I ever ate in one sitting. read more

FAVORITE VIETNAMESE ON THE PLANET. Really. I compare every other Vietnamese place, ANYWHERE, to this one. Appetizers: Get the fried egg rolls. They come out fresh and crispy, with a huge plate of lettuce, cilantro, basil to wrap them up in, and then a sweet and slightly spicy dipping sauce. I would happily eat only these scrumptious little bites of wonderful for the rest of my life. Entrees: Pho. I really like their soup base. Especially for the seafood ones. The beef is pretty good too. Combo Plates: Yummy fried rice, lemongrass chicken and those awesome egg rolls on the side. Interesting note about the owners/main waitresses: These two ladies are awesome. They take a lot of pride in their food and they're pretty funny, too. (Not sure if that's intentional, but they crack me up) One of them always calls everyone "baby" or "honey", and the other one feels like your long-lost-Vietnamese aunt. If you seem to be wasting food, she has no problem scolding you about it. Sometimes I expect her to say something like "Finish your vegetables or no dessert" or "Eat all your food. I used to live nearby and got pho takeout all the time. The portions here are pretty big and the food is reasonable fresh. Its worth going to if you need a noodle fix.
