Dined here last night...Great looking place if you're creating a TikTok reel/IG story or post... you are definitely paying for ambience. If you're looking for Sushi... place your reservation across the street at Nobu. The food presentation and quality wasn't worth the price. The service was a joke... guests were walking out for not being served any of their food. When I asked our waiter when we can expect our food, he replied with "I don't know." Just to start I want to say this place made me create a yelp account when I previously did not have one just to let the public know how horrible this place is. This place is the biggest joke I've ever been to. They charge you 20 bucks for some burnt chicken nuggets and call it chicken kaarage. They charge you 18 dollars for a "sushi roll" and then it comes out as one "sushi taco" that's bite size. Unbelievable, will never be returning here ever again. The only thing you are truly paying for is the view of the ocean. ANDDDD on top of everything there was hair in my sashimi! The sashimi I paid top dollar for. You honestly can't make this up. Well, I usually don't write reviews but after my experience I thought it warranted one. Sadly I wish I saw the reviews on Yelp before I decide to eat here. First, I'll start with saying the view and aesthetic ( lobby; never sat in restaurant) was nice. However, everything else was a no go. I had made a reservation a month ago and when I checked in they had our table ready but we waited 15-20 minutes to be seated. Once we got seated in the SEATING AREA ( not the table that was prepared inside the restaurant) the waitress asked if it was okay if we were sitting in the sun.. I'm not sure about others but no one wants direct sun in their face while trying to enjoy their meal. They eventually brought umbrellas that only shaded half of my party. (9) Second, our waitress was quite passive aggressive and neglectful of our table. Our orders were incorrect, cups were dirty and had to ask for a different glass, ( second glass was still dirty..) etc. She also seemed pretty annoyed when she asked if we were splitting the bill so she can take our order a specific way which we did split in 3. The food was OKAY, nothing amazing or worth their prices honestly. However, I will say the albacore crispy onion was good. This is NOT a place to eat a "meal" more of a drinks and "appetizer" type style. Portions are very small and we ended up getting food about an hour after we left the restaurant. The timing of the food/ service was pretty bad altogether we spent a little over 2 hours which at that point we still didn't receive all of our food .. which was the fried rice with avocado( don't waste your money literally nothing special but hard fried rice with mushy rice inside and mashed avocado on top lol. ) Circling back to our waitress; as mentioned earlier she was neglectful in making sure our glasses was filled with water, checking to see if our party was doing ok, clearing plates, making sure we received our food, etc. her attitude gave she could care less because she was guaranteed 20% gratuity on our check. ( yes, expect 20% to be added; could have been because my party was more than 5, which is typical) So was this worth $800+ absolutely not. There are so many other choices to have a nice meal, view, and actually good service you should expect when eating out. Save your time and money. We had such a beautiful experience with Niaz. We reserved a table at the restaurant, and she generously offered us a sound bath completely for free, which felt incredibly thoughtful and grounding. The sound healing itself was calming, intentional, and left us feeling deeply relaxed and present. What truly stood out was how caring and attentive she was throughout the entire evening. Even while managing the restaurant, she checked on us several times to make sure everything was perfect and that we were comfortable. I'll try to keep this short and simple. The food overall tasted good, but the portions are TOO small, especially for the price. These prices for these small bites are TOOO much. Lowkey overpriced. The service was alright, could be better. There are a lot of staff, but it seemed unorganized. We didn't get 2-3 of our orders and took quite long for it to not even come. I think when it comes to a bigger party, thy seem to be caught off guard and get disorganized. Francisco(?) our server, was really nice and tried his best to keep our experience great, but unfortunately it wasn't the best, he's a great server though. The ambiance is probably the only thing i liked about this place. Would i recommend coming here? no not really, i'd go somewhere else to have Sake, Sushi, Sashimi, etc. It was our first time coming, but I wouldn't come back. This is throw-on-something-cute, catch the sunset, maybe flirt with a waiter energy. The crispy rice goes hard. Thick base, golden and hot like it just came out the fryer, topped with spicy tuna that's cold, soft, and a little creamy. It feels like eating something you know you should not be allowed to touch without a reservation. The miso cod lettuce wraps are solid too. Sweet glaze, flaky fish, light enough to not feel guilty but flavorful enough to order again. The yellowtail habanero is Instagram bait. Pretty as hell. Clean citrus bite with a habanero whisper that hits the back of your throat like a memory. The short ribs were my surprise favorite. They come out looking like they just got styled for a shoot, and they taste like somebody's uncle snuck into the kitchen and blessed the grill. Even the gyoza was vibey. Crisp edges, good sauce, nothing soggy. The desserts are extra but in a fun way. If the ricotta pistachio cake had an outfit it would be sequined. The purple-lit patio gives Euphoria with a side of Malibu healing era. Parking was shockingly easy. Staff was nice, still getting their steps in, but no complaints. Not once did he really come to check on us until it was nearing the end and check was ready to be paid did his demeanor suddenly change. Wow. My boyfriend took me on a date here, and it was honestly one of the most incredible experiences I've ever had at a restaurant in LA. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away. Let's see where do I start...From the beginning, $20 for parking which you really should have that little tidbit of information on your website or posted prior to entering your garage. Walked up, your system/hostess did not somehow have our reservation. We had all the confirmations needed on our end, after 10 minutes of the hostess staring at her computer, we were seated. Amongst the gnats flying around. We asked for a citronella candle, knowing the restaurant knows about this problem, but evidently just ignores it. No citronella candles. (Heads up, maybe invest in a few). We stopped here to grab a quick bite before going to an Alvin Ailey ll performance @ Pepperdine. My sister lived in Malibu for 20+ years, so Malibu isn't new to us. With that being said, the small, overpriced appetizers and sushi tacos were absolutely ridiculous. I actually have tasted better on all levels and paid half the amount. No one really checked on us, although if we had a request it was honored. I am a huge Foodie and was truly disappointed. Heads up! They also practice an automatic 20% tipping system starting with parties of 4 (apparently that's supposedly standard).
