I was debating writing this review because selfishly I don't want more people to know about this gem! ;) My husband and I went here for dinner last week since we live so close, we thought we'd try it out! I was beyond impressed and by seeing another customer order the noodles, I thought I would give them a try! If you know me, this is NOT like me whatsoever. My husband gives me a hard time because I am not a noodle person. However, I felt like going out on a limb and I'm glad I did! By far the best noodles I've had! SO delicious! My husband order an entree with scallops on a hot plate as well as a roll. He said the roll was good (can't really mess it up) and the scallops was really good. I did only give them 4 stars because the scallops were slightly pricey but I do have to say he got a lot of them so that was okay to me for the price! ;) I also gave it a 4 star because overall the prices did seem a bit high in comparison to other sushi places in the area. However, I was a HUGE fan of this restaurant so I let it slide with the nice ambiance and FANTASTIC service from everyone that worked there! Truly they were working together! I've been to this place now a total of 2 times. I'm not sure why...but this past experience was just no good. Let me just say, this is by no means a negative review of the service....it was just their food. After my last meal at Sake Sushi...the fiance and I will not be going back. This place is not the best place to get quality sushi. Overall everything that we ordered was just NOT THAT GREAT. I ordered the Chirashi bowl which is a variety of sashimi over rice. The fiance had ordered a couple of different rolls...the rainbow roll and the spicy lobster dyna roll. The food quality was just not there...I was a bit grossed out when we got our dishes the fish was NOT fresh. A small, family-owned sushi restaurant in Placentia where the owners are always working are super sweet. You can tell that the majority of people in here are regulars. The times that I've been here, the wife is always going around greeting people and asking how their kids/parents are doing. They want the best for their restaurant and you can tell. Brought home some sashimi to go one night and my mom was like wow they gave you a lot of good quality sashimi and for the price is was a great deal. This place is a very cute little restaurant. Very casual and when I went, it was actually very quiet. I was there on a Saturday at 8pm. Didnt have to wait for a table. We were greeted when we came in. Kind of startled me because I wasnt expecting it. But it was very nice. The ambiance was really nice. Everything was clean. The service was great as well. Didnt have to wait too long for anything, but I also didnt feel rushed to leave either. The owner and family were there having dinner as well. And they all said bye to us as we left too. Makes for a very friendly and inviting place. They have a very good selection of sushi. I would personally recommend the Lettuce Hand Roll. I like this idea much better than the seaweed wrapped hand rolls. Easier to eat in my opinion. Ive also heard they have $1 sushi on Mondays. But I havent been to see the selection available for this. I love the service and the food here. The servers are attentive and when you sit at the sushi bar the sushi chef makes you feel right at home. The sushi is fresh and they give you pretty good sized pieces. They also see what you order and have helpful suggestions. They even sent us a cute dish for free :) It's our new sushi restaurant since we just moved in the area. Gotta get the hamachi belly and sweet shrimp. read more

This is a lovely wonderful place. I saw this place a few times and wanted to try it out for quite a while. Now, I've been there about two or three times and absolutely love it. On my last visit, they even stayed 20-30 minutes past their closing time in order to accommodate our late entry. Food is good, they have some rare selections such as the wagyu seared beef. Despite the price, it's definitely worth a try. Sukiyaki, this was the dish i first tried and I think they hit it spot on. I recommended it and my wife and friends all loved the recommendation as well. Rolls are good too, but doesn't really throw me off my feet. Prices are a little higher than most restaurants, that would be the only downside I see... everything else I give a 4 to 5 star rating. Best Japanese (so far) in this area. read more

I love this place. The staff is always suppper friendly. I am a vegetarian so I don't get "sushi" but I get the cucumberavo roll (2) but I always get the crunch added on one. For texture differences. Top off the meal with an ice cold Asahi and you're set. Last night I got tempura avocado, I never thought deep frying an avocado could be so good! I use to go here a lot when I was going through this sushi-phase.. and whenever I ordered take-out, they would actually decorate and make it all pretty for me to find when I got home.. they didn't do that at first, but I think they started recognizing me lol anyways, my favorites are the fire roll, tuna sashimi, yellow tail sashmi, tomato rolls, and really anything with tuna (my absolute favorite when it comes to sushi!) great customer service, great food :) read more

Recently moved into the area and was looking for a nice mid range Sushi bar. We tried this place one day very late nearing closing time. The sushi is very solid here, and while they don't have exotic fish they do have fish that is not often found at other neighborhood Sushi bars. Some that we enjoyed include spanish makerel, halibut, sweet shrimp, giant scallops, and blue fin tuna. As importaint as the sushi itself, the service is excellent. The staff is always very tentative, and the waiter that we always seem to get is always very helpful at suggesting new and interesting items. A few different staff members always check up on us everytime we visit. It doesn't have super exotic fish (such as my fav, Ikko) but as far as a comfortable, friendly, and high quality sushi resturant around town this is definately a place I would recommend to friends and family. read more

I must say I had an excellent experience here. We just moved to Placentia from Orange and I was set on finding a new, family owned sushi restaurant. I am not into the mainstream Chomp type places so I did my research. Yelp didn't let me down here! The service was very friendly, and I can really appreciate a semi-quiet sushi atmosphere. We sat at the sushi bar with chef ID (maybe IDI-can't spell his name right) He greeted us with smiles and a menu. The sake was served super hot. I would recommend that they serve with a wrap since I nearly burned my hand pouring shots for me and the ol' man. The beer was $4 for an Ichiban and $5 for a large sake, which isn't bad. We both got the Cajun seared tuna, smoked salmon and the Spanish Mackerel. They were all amazing, although I was a bit disappointed to learn they don't smoke in house. **NOTE TO OWNER** Please serve free edamame and Miso soup to your patrons, it makes such a difference! We also got the Yorba Linda roll and the crunchy Salmon Roll..... which were freakin' awesome! In the end, they hooked it up with some squid and baby octopus and a yummy salmon on tempura fried leaf (not sure which type of leaf:) The bill for both us was $79 including alcoholic drinks and plenty of food which in my opinion is banging. I also noticed that they have lots of weekday dinner deals, including 20% off all Sake on Thursdays. This includes your bottle and sake cups that you can keep there until you return. This place is horrible, but gets good gringo business and reviews. The food here is very average in taste and not fresh at all. Also, the portions here are ridiculously small for dinner prices. I ordered a Yorba Linda roll that was supposed to have soft shell crab... Instead all I tasted was batter... I also ordered a steak sashimi combo that had 5 dinky sliced pieces, and the steak had less flavor than what I can cook at home (and less chunks of fat). What really annoyed me was that they use an ice cream scooper to scoop the rice. They literally scoop exactly one small scoop which is barely half a bowl... Then when you ask for more rice, they give you the same portion and charge you $1.50 (for freaking cold-Hard rice!!!). I'm can totally imagine the person in the kitchen weighing the bowls just so they can save a nickel a day. I'm wondering if this business model is based on the nontraditional-Korean owned principle of being a CHEAP ASS!!! This place is so crappy that they even serve stale Ginger that shows dried discoloring! A business like this shouldn't exist in this economy. I was just recently introduced tho Sake Sushi, and it was a great experience!! A friend took a small group of us when we were bored and craving sushi, and I sure am glad she did! Right when we walked in we were greeted by the owner, who is uber nice, and seated right away. They were very attentive the whole time, and one of the sushi chefs even came over to flirt with us!! haha... All the sushi was sooo good! You can tell that the fish is all fresh and it is like a party in your mouth!! We ordered a bunch of rolls, but some of my faves were the volcano roll and the paradise roll. Did you know mango is delicious on sushi? I didn't until now!!!! If you haven't tried it you must do so, it feels so refreshing as you eat it. I heard they do karaoke on Saturday nights and the owner likes to get down. I must come back for that..... Honestly, this might become one of my newest favorite sushi places! read more

I'll keep it short and sweet. I went here on a Tuesday night when I was in town for business. I had high hopes after reading the reviews, and ordered the Dancing Roll, salmon and tuna nigiri, and a house salad. The nigiri fish was fatty and NOT fresh. If it smells fishy, it's BAD. The Dancing Roll was gross-- I had two pieces and couldn't stomach any more. The salad was edible. I threw $35 of food away, and went to bed irritated and hungry. read more

Found this gem on Yelp when my boyfriend and I were craving sushi. Most places in or around Yorba Linda are closed on Sunday evenings so we decided to give this place a try and we LOVED it!! The staff was super welcoming and friendly when we walked in and were greeted by the waitress right away. The owner/manager brought us our food with a big smile. I got the Fire Roll and my boyfriend got the Spicy Something Wrong Roll and the Yorba Linda Roll. All 3 were great! The sushi was fresh and the pieces were big, and it tasted amazing. The Tempura was good especially the sweet potato and squash. I found the food a bit on the pricey side. That is my main complaint. Otherwise not a bad atmosphere and decent food. read more

Its more of a 3 and a half, almost four. So like 3.8732793423199 The decor was really nice. We strolled in right before the dinner rush on Wednesday. The employees were very aware of their patrons; there was a server walking by every 3 minutes, not necessarily asking you if you need anything, but they're pretty good judges of when you do need something. That being said. . . I ordered a hot tea, baked mussels, and chirashi. The tea was really good, it was a green tea with grain in it (I believe it may have been brown rice meal) I really enjoyed it. The mussels were pretty tasty; although they had a little too much sauce, they were well prepared, not too chewy. The chirashi was a little bit better than ok, but just a little. Not all of the fish seemed very fresh. The octopus was ok, but the yellowtail and the salmon tasted a little too . . . fishy. But their tamago was good (at least that day). Anywayzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Its really close, and its pretty good for sushi in my regular driving range. Better than that sad excuse that is Maki Yaki right down the street. Blech read more

Sake is right around the corner from my house, so I have been there about 15-20 times since it opened in 2006. The staff is very friendly and the owner is frequenty there during dinner hours, making oragami boxes with m&ms inside for kids in the restaurant. The sushi is great...fresh and unique with some standard rolls as well. They have $1 sushi Mondays which is a great bargain if you prefer simple sushi on a budget. :) There isn't a kids menu, which I LOVE...sushi restaurants shouldn't serve chicken nuggets and corn dogs. My son loves it here and often has the miso soup and teriyaki chicken (and he is a very picky eater!). I like the volcano roll and Placentia roll, but I always try something new while I am there...never disappointed. read more

I liked this place a lot even before discovering their $1 sushi specials every Monday for the first time recently. Now it's one of my favorites! I expected $1 sushi to be of small portions and not very good quality. After all how great could it be for that price? To my surprise, the portions of fish were generous and the quality was superb! They served my coworker and I packaged Top Ramen...NO JOKE! Just went to this place for lunch today. We had the spicy garlic edamame, mixed tempura and ramen. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is the edamame and tempura was ok. The ramen however was clearly packaged top ramen. Not that I hate it, but definitely should not be served at a restaurant at a 700% margin. I wish I would have taken a picture. Unfortunately the service didn't help either. My ex wife and kids took me here for Father's Day. Between us, we ordered a lobster roll, tuna roll, teriyaki bowl, a popcorn hand roll and a couple of salads. The salads were excellent, fresh ingredients and the dressing was amazing (sweet yet tangy). The teriyaki bowl was good, however the beef could have been a little less dry. The lobster roll was very good. Service was friendly and efficient. Overall a good choice for lunch (or dinner?) at a reasonable price. I'm giving a four star mainly due to the fact that there are places that I feel have better quality, although perhaps you'd spend more money to get it. I had heard of Sake Sushi & Grill, but even though I'm a huge sushi fan I didn't try this place until recently. I came with a friend based on the positive Yelp reviews, and am really glad I did. The menu was huge, with a lot of variety. I settled on two rolls, can't remember which ones specifically, but I was surprised at how generous they were, and really tasty. My friend is vegetarian, and she enjoyed that there are several different types of vegetarian sushi rolls. Also the service was good, we did need to flag someone down for the bill, but before that several different people came to check on us throughout the meal, and everyone was super friendly. I would definitely recommend this place, and I would come back to try other items on the menu. read more

I have been coming here for a few months now, and their food is always the same standards. I never have had a "bad" roll or entree, and it tastes exactly the same from the previous time. This place is one of my go-to sushi places. The wait staff is very polite and don't get annoyed when I need more time to order, and the food comes out in a timely manner. It's nice to see that there is a "family" vibe going on with everyone that works there. Of all the things I have tried, the crunchy onion albacore roll is definitely my favorite! It's a must if you have not tried it or it's your first time. You will not be disappointed with Agedashi Tofu (fried tofu in sauce) and Placentia Roll. The only gripe I have is their doordash menu. I found that they were on doordash (I was so excited!) and was ordering beforehand, so that when I got home, it would be delivered shortly after. Most of the menu items on doordash were unavailable or it wasn't on the menu to begin with. As a restaurant, please update your menu so your customer does not have to be on the phone constantly, if I knew this was going to be the case, I would have just called in a pick up order. read more

First time going to this sushi place and it was delicious. I am a fan of the Yorba Linda Roll. My favorite part about this roll was the asparagus! I also ordered the spicy garlic edamame and that was delightful! The sushi chef gave us a piece of salmon it was really good but it was mostly the fat of the salmon which I did not enjoy eating. I've been going to this sushi bar since I was a child & I've never once been dissatisfied or disappointed. This is the best sushi place in all of OC, when I go to other places.. I compare them to sake. Ehh that was good.. but no where near the beautiful cuts you would get from sake sushi. High quality fish, beautiful plating, & phenomenal staff & especially the ownership. This place is pretty darn good. Visiting with family in Yorba Linda. My Uncle Marshmellow (aka Marshall) assured us this was the only non-generic (Marie Calendar's/ Mimi's Cafe) option in his conservative neck of the woods. Pros: - Alot for your buck - they don't get chinsy on the expensive stuff. When you order the Lobster roll. You're going to get a mound of fresh lobster pieces on top of your roll. - Pictures of all of the "rolls" rolls inside the menu. and no that's not a typo. - Miso soup was probably one of the best I have ever tasted. Alot stronger than normal. Tasted like they might use alot more Bonito flakes when they make the Dashi. Definitely made in house. - Sushi is fresh and all items arrived at the same time. Staff was quite nice too. - #39 roll is divine. Cream sauce + Scallops + Shrimp+CA roll? Sign me up for that party in your mouth. - Salmon Teriyaki bowl is a good option is you haven't converted to raw fish. - This place opens up a Karaoke bar later at night. So I'm told. Cons: - This isn't really a con as much as a warning. Their "spicy" rolls really are spicy. So make sure you have a Asahi or water on stand by. - Sushi chefs forgot to put ginger & wasabi on our 1st plate of sushi. Unfortunately for them the person we told happened to be one of the owners of the restaurant. She gasped in horror! ;) - I couldn't find any Nigiri listed on their dining menu. So you need to ask. - Specials also not on dining menu. You'll want to check them out on the white board next to the Sushi bar. - Raspberry Sake tasted more like sweet wine. They give you a wine glass full of it too. - Could do with a little less fried (tempura) items in all of the rolls. read more
