I was not impressed with Sake Toro, at all. With myriad options to choose from, when it comes to sushi in the Metroplex, there are plenty of other places, most with better pricing. Before I say anything else negative, though, the positives are that, of the three that we tried, both the Philly and the Crazy Horse were really good. Not worth another trip here, but yeah. Though our waitress was, herself, friendly enough, she didn't do a great job. The restaurant wasn't very full, at all, yet we didn't get refills until we were leaving. It wasn't very full, yet the workers there acted as though were all in a huge hurry. Last, I thought that the spicy tuna was universal? I'll put it this way...whatever was in that thing tastes like the smell of one of my daughter's used pull-ups. My second bite of the stuff, I just barely choked down. We walked this Frisco square perusing the restaurants in search for the ideal spot. We landed here at Sake Toro Sushi. The decor is appropriate and the space is just right, intimate enough yet welcoming. We decided to go with a popular item, the Ex-Boyfriend. It's shrimp tempura, avocado, cream cheese topped with crab meat and spicy mayo. It's 13.95 and comes with about 8 healthy pieces. This was a worthy dish. Worth choosing and worth mentioning. For entree, we went with the Salmon Teriyaki combination dinner. It was so beautifully presented in this red lunch plate - like dish. It came with Gyoza dumplings, shrimp and veggie tempura (one of my all time faves), salad and steamed rice. It was wonderful!!!! I also ordered a side of veggies which was also delicioso. It was a mix of asparagus, carrots, and other veggies perfectly seasoned. Teo of us split everything and it perfectly hit the spot. We were tempted to get another roll to go and eat it on the way to our next spot but we too must have limits. Moderation. All in all so glad we came. Does Sake Toro mean greasy noodles in Japanese? This restaurant is pretty, the service was very good, but the food, needs work. Had the Yakisoba dish, substituting chicken for fish. Since there was a puddle of grease in the bottom of the bowl, I picked out the few pieces of chicken and ate that. The menu said the dish came with veggies, A few slices of zucchini and some onions were the only veggies. I did not try the sushi, but have no desire to return to try it. Dig if you will the picture, tempura shrimp rolled with cucumber and avocado topped with a medley of scallop and crab with another topping of avocado drizzled with the house sauce. The ambiance is fun, the waitstaff were helpful & friendly and the food was pretty delicious. We didn't order anything from the bar, but it offered all top shelf liquor, beer and wine. We ordered Miso soup and Gyoza to start - although the apps showed up after our sushi. A bummer but no big deal. They offer a lengthy list of interesting rolls, but we stuck the basics - spicy tuna (really spicy!), a crunch roll and the Vegas Roll (wrapped in cucumber instead of rice). All the rolls were fresh and tasty. The prices were right on to other places in the area so I think all and all, a win, win. We will surely be returning! read more

I struggled with giving them a low score because I absolutely love their sushi but I ultimately decided on a JUST OKAY rating because their service has been horrible lately. Every time that I go the service seems hectic, unorganized, and insincere. I do not feel like a valued customer when I am there and have little patience for not receiving something basic like water refills from an inattentive service. Last time I was there the sushi was made in such a hurry that it was sloppy and unappealing, especially for the price that you pay. This is by far our favorite Sushi bar in North Dallas!!! Upon entering the restuarant, you are greeted by a neatly illuminated jellyfish tank. The place itself is more intimate in size, so on Friday and Saturday nights there may be a wait, but we always prefer to sit at the bar instead and talk to the chefs. They always have a couple of TV's going for those that just can't miss their sports, but then they also have a great selection of music playing in the background. They have a great selection of sushi, sashimi and rolls. (Don't be offended by the names...) Some of our favorites are the Screaming Orgasm, Ex-boyfriend roll, Who's Your Daddy?, Say My Name, Japanese Lasagna, and their Spring Rolls... and the Amberjack is awesome! This is my new favorite sushi restaurant in the 'burbs of Dallas. I went here this past Friday night with a friend. We drove around the restaurant a couple of times trying to find the valet stand when we realized there were plenty of parking spots near the restaurant. I don't know how being the fact that the sushi is ridiculously good. Inside the restaurant is cozy, stylish and was packed. The decor is fun, very Vegas with its flashy colors, jellyfish tank and pendulum lights. The sushi bar is made of a rocky, pebble surface that smooths out so you can set your plate down evenly. Sushi = melt in your mouth good. Ex Boyfriend roll is fantastic, and I loved the baked mussels. I got the scallop sushi made spicy. The only fault was service was SLOW. This is why I don't give this a 5 star rating. I had to ask where was our food a couple of times. There is no excuse for this. People come to a sushi place hungry so you have to serve it soon! The best roll on the menu that I tried was called Something Wrong. Yes, something is wrong and that is the fact that I live 250 miles from this place. Enough to make me want to create an account on Yelp and come and boost their rating score. I was fortunate enough to read a review from Joe F. and base an entire dining experience to his recommendation. Let's just say at a table of four we complete knocked out every thing ordered like a swarm of locusts. The staff was incredibly friendly and fast, even for a somewhat busy Friday night. This place is by far the absolute top of the game around this area that has been tried so far, and right now it's looking rather hard to beat. I'm a sushi fanatic and I love this place so much. I've been coming here for about three years now and I am never disappointed. I will point out some things that can improve although I am a loyal customer! I'll start with the good stuff. Their chicken fried rice IS TO DIE FOR. I get it almost every time I come in. It is so moist and not all dried out like some other Japanese/sushi places. Their sushi is always fresh whether you get sashimi or their special rolls. Their roll selection is awesome. They have different varieties for all types of sushi lovers. The names are a bit provocative but it's fun and no other sushi place has names like it. Love the originality. Also, the owner and his wife are so welcoming. They interact with their customers especially at the sushi bar. The man who owns it makes special sushi for his customers and really caters to them. He talks to you and is honest about trying to satisfy every sushi need you have. His wife makes the sake. It's awesome. If you like sake, you'll love hers. Now for the bad.... Sometimes service is slow.... I'm pretty sure the same people have been working here since I became a regular. Maybe they need to switch it up or hire more people. Also, it's a pretty small restaurant so I imagine it gets packed during dinner on the weekends and assume the wait would start backing up. The miso soup seems to be premade. I e had miso before at other places and you can tell based on how fast it comes out - if it takes longer, they're actually making it. If it comes out quickly, it's probably already made and they just scooped some in a bowl and brought it out. Also. It wasn't scorching Hot so there's another clue lol. Also, I am literally currently here and I really wish when I came in there was room at the bar bc it seems like the people at the bar are getting all the love. I love sushi, but am a little intimidated on what to order, so I usually go with seasoned veterans. Our friends, who are Friday night regulars here, took us and we loved it. This was my wife's first sushi experience, and while we stayed 90% with the rolls, she's dying to go back. The service was great. I wish I could have tried a few cocktails, but had to stick with beer for the drive back to Richardson. That's my only complaint - it's up in S. Oklahoma (Frisco).... It's a little pricey, but worth it to know you're getting food and service this good. I wish I could remember some of the exact rolls we ordered, but it didn't matter, they were all great. They have this one with an asparagus running through the center. It was fantastic the way it popped while eating. We're going to venture out on our own to try some other highly rated places closer to us, but are afraid we'll be let down after this place. It's a true gem. VALENTINE'S Day, that half way through eating our sushi rolls our waiter told us we needed to give up our table for the next reservation. My husband and I were so confused bc our food was only half way done and we didn't even get a chance to order another glass of wine or dessert. Three sushi was fresh, not overloaded with rice, and the atmosphere was great. Clean location, with great poppy music playing in the background. Just a 6 minute walk from Toyota Stadium. Best sushi restaurant I've been to since moving to Texas from California. I'm a little skeptical when it comes to eating fish in Texas because it's not locally caught and has to be flown in from the coast or another state all together. The business location is small so not good for a party larger than 8 (we are a family of 4 and had another family of 4 join us and it got a bit chaotic). The service is spotty even when you're just ordering drinks but that's expected as everyone is struggling for help these days. The chef is always there and we LOVE eating at the bar. My husband and I go at least once a month for date night and try to catch a lunch when we can. The wait for your food is long but definitely worth it. The fish is fresh, the rolls are unique and delicious. Hands down my favorite sushi place. The Cheech and Chong is good. The ex-girlfriend is good. It's all good! I've been here 3 times and love it. It's always busy on the weekends, so sometimes you might have to wait for a table. The service has always been really friendly and fast considering a full house. The chefs often seem like they're indulging in the jovial spirits and are having a great time.
