A-mazing! This is without a doubt the best sushi that my fiance or I have ever had! The service was attentive, helpful, patient (with my lack of sushi knowledge), and genuinely interested in whether or not we liked the food. The presentation is solid. The only drawback might be that it's a bit small. Go early, it's worth it! (Oh, and and all the food names are based on funny/sexy wordplay which would probably make it a fun first date kind of place too.) read more

Delicious. I've been craving sushi for the past couple of weeks and Sake Toro hit the spot. First of all: the location. One thing I love about downtown Frisco is the proximity of restaurants to my neighborhood. Frisco Square is a great, relatively quiet place to walk and eat. Sake Toro is right on the corner next to a parking lot. I went on Saturday afternoon and there were plenty of places to park. Next: ambiance. It seemed by the time I got there, they had switched to hip-hop with the lights dimmed. Pretty cool but kind of weird for afternoon. It was totally EMPTY. Nobody but the chef and a hostess. No complaints about the service. They were very nice. I ordered a spider roll to start. Many places add way too much sauce making it taste too mayonnaise-y, but not here. Perfect sauce to crab ratio. The crab was a little chewier than I'm used to, but still good. For an entree I had the shrimp tempura. Delicious. The entree includes onion, sweet potato, and zucchini (I think) tempura. Was a little too greasy but I think that's to be expected. So all-in-all, I was very satisfied with my visit to Sake Toro. I want to return soon to try all the dirty named sushi! I eat sushi once or twice a week. My rule is if I smell even a hint of fish when I walk in, I walk out! But because it wasn't an overwhelming odor I decided to break my rule for the first time EVER! Big mistake. I ordered three roles, two with raw fish and one cooked. The first two rolls came out. The Hawaiian roll (California roll with tuna on top) and another roll similar to that. I popped in the first bite and BAM. FISH FISH FISH. I was acutely aware that I was eating raw fish. You could taste it, you could smell it and I COULDN'T force myself to eat it. When the cooked roll came out, I thought, finally I'll get to eat. I was starving! I hungrily popped in my first bite of the cooked roll and again, FISH FISH FISH! It was fishy! I couldn't believe it. The waitress refused to do anything about it, no manager came to inquire or apologize & it was obvious they're attitude was TOUGH LUCK. I was out nearly $50 bucks and I didn't eat a damn thing. p.s. That night, I got incredibly sick! I won't go into details but I'm glad I only ate three bites. Great location on Main Street. We enjoyed a variety of items include several signature sushi dishes. The over quality was good although the portions were smaller, I'd preferred quality. We also ordered the Udon noodle soup which by far was one of the best we've had in the area. Tasty broth with plenty of ingredients. Although the accompanied shrimp tempura was a bit cold. Overall, it was good. Here is rating break down. 4 - overall taste and flavor 3 - service was okay. Our server got one of the Sushi order wrong. Not much service after the food was served. My wife and I discovered this place while checking out the Frisco Square lights. We decided to give it a shot and that was a terrible mistake. My wife ordered the chicken teriyaki which arrived on its own and our waitress informed us that the entree was served with rice and that it would be out shortly along with the Happy Ending roll we ordered. 20 minutes go by and no white rice or sushi. No one stops at our table to check on us and meanwhile everyone who was there AFTER us was getting their sushi orders left and right. For a sushi bar you would assume that rice would be a staple in their menu and would not take so long to bring out. 30 minutes pass and finally my wife's white rice was given to us after her chicken teriyaki was cold from waiting for so long for something as simple as white rice. On top of that we had still not received our sushi roll. Finally one of the managers strolls on by and brings our sushi roll out and apologizes for the delay using the excuse that their sushi is hand rolled and that it takes time and their rice never takes this long to be brought out. We have been to plenty of sushi bars with handmade rolls and no one has ever taken 30 minutes to bring out a single roll. No one has ever taken so long to bring out a simplistic side such as rice. In a poor attempt to satisfy us the manager only offered to comp my wife's drink which was only $10 and the cheapest thing we ordered versus the $15 dollar entree she was served incomplete and was force to wait 30 minutes for the other half of her entree to be brought out. The service here is absolutely pathetic and they seem to be very selective as to who they serve and wait on as there was a table next to us who had practically all of the staff serve them left and right while we were hardly checked on and forced to wait 30 minutes for white rice and a single sushi roll. There are far more superior sushi bars than this so please do not waste your time. We've had far better customer service experiences at McDonald's than this pathetic place. read more

HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT I have two favorite restaurants in the neighborhood that I've regularly visited for the past few months ever since I moved to frisco from New York. Kotta, right by my house Sake Toro, amazing rolls! (ex-girlfriend and ex-boyfriend) Today, my favorite restaurant just reduced to one: KOTTA I took my date to Sake Toro last night, and was very humiliated in front of her. I was seated next to a group of drinking people who already seemed pretty drunk. The owner would only serve the group and would not check on our table. The food also came out extremely slow, but the group next to us were quick to get their food. I felt extremely mistreated and was so mad. The server was very friendly and quick on his toes, but the owner wad terrible to us. Seems they only like the higher-spending drinking customers than us. Sake Toro I will NEVER RETURN. We sat at the sushi bar, and let the sushi chef select the house favorites and the rolls were creative and fairly big. Sauces were a bit heavy but the flavors were still all there. The sushi and sashimi tasted very fresh. Our waitress was very polite and made the dining experience wonderful. read more

I've been *dreaming* about an ex-girlfriend... ROLL! I love their cheeky menu, and everything that we ordered was AMAZING. Fresh, delicious sushi AND a tasty drink menu to boot. The service was a little... odd - we had three different people waiting on us throughout the evening, and they'd ALL attempt to refill/check on us within 5 minutes of each other. The over-and-above service attempts were a tad bit tiresome and awkward. The only thing that's keeping Sake Toro from that coveted 4th star is their birthday party ritual... we went on a Saturday night, and "it" happened twice. Although it's somewhat of a blur - since by that point (thank you Mr. WhateverKindOfLemon-yTiniThingy I was drinking) I'd had a couple of drin-*hiccup*-ks , but I seem to recall VERY loud music (the same, token "birthday" song each time) over the PA, clapping, a gathering of beat-down servers and the feeling of "OhEmGee. Note to self: this will NOT be the location for my birthday dinner in March." It didn't seem to match the general ambiance of the restaurant at all... it was like Pancho's meets sushi for those two horrifying moments. The sombrero was the only thing missing. Oh, and we were totally fascinated by the jelly fish tank too!! Let's ignore the edemame (took nearly an hour for it to arrive on our table) was ICE FROZEN COLD! And we were ignored when we asked for it to be warmed up. How about when we specifically told TWO people that the FOOD WAS BAD and we were totally ignored? SHe smiled, shrugged her shoulders and walked away. He shrugged his shoulders, said Oh, sorry. and walked away. This was NOT a language mis-communication. She totally understood and chose to ignore it. And they even got the bill wrong. We paid for crappy food we didn't eat. Such a shame. When they first opened, they were AWESOME! We used to get takeout all the time, never once had a problem. But now the menu has changed, the way they prepare it has changed, and it's not good anymore. I have ordered the same dish since they opened. Since the menu change, it's now horrible. I was really disappointed. The sushi was okay but the service was absolutely horrible! We were seated and it was close to 10 minutes before we were greeted. After our server took our order she never came back...not to check how our food was, if we needed anything, to refill drinks...nothing. We also had to ask the food runner for napkins and chopsticks. And she either forgot to order our 3rd roll or they forgot to make it. Either way we had to grab the food runner to ask about it. When she finally came by our table we asked for more water and she only filled the glass 3/4 of the way. If you're happy with just okay sushi and bad service then this place is fine...but I would rather pay more at Kotta or Edoko and get good service...especially being a mom on Mother's Day! read more

The atmosphere is great. The restaurant itself looks really nice and clean. However, the service my friend and I experienced today was horrible. We went around lunchtime and it wasn't busy at all. Ordered drinks and two specialty rolls. after an hour, we finally got our waiter's attention, and asked for our food to be boxed and our tab so we could just leave. She said she completely forgot about the two rolls we ordered. I don't understand how you can forget we ordered food, especially when we only ordered just two rolls and the restaurant wasn't busy at all. She did offer 10% off so we got a dollar or two off the entire order. Right after, I called back the restaurant to speak to a manager. It turns out the waiter who was serving us is the manager. She was unprofessional when I spoke to her. I explained she forgot our order. She should have noticed we hadn't received our food yet, but she didn't check on us at all during the 1+ hour we were there. She asked "What do you want me to do? I gave you 10% already. I will remember your face next time you visit". Other places would've offered a free plate or appetizer our next visit without us asking. However, she was no accommodating at all. This place WAS a gem. The service WAS great. The food is still pretty good, kinda over priced, but I mean it's sushi. I'm giving this rating because I believe that faith could be restored at Sake Toro. The owner/manager is funny and loves his sake!!! The man can cook. I hear the chefs say something and see him set a plate on top of the sushi bar. I wait patiently not wanting to assume that it was my food, but it had been awhile since my order was taken. I used to be a server so I kinda go frustrated when I say the two at the front not even flinch or look towards the chef, because even if it wasn't my food it was someone's. I try to flag my server down but he's no where to be found. The boy's back is to me but the girl is facing me she seemed to be the one mostly talking, so I raise my hand and say "excuse me miss". We make eye contact but SHE CONTINUED TO TALK THIS GUY'S EAR OFF!! I have been a server before and know that even if it's not your table you should see what they need and let their waiter know. This time I say it a little louder. The girl ROLLS HER EYES, like I interrupted and the skinny boy turns and comes over. I ask him if he could check on how much longer my food would take. He goes to the back and not to the sushi bar, I assume to find my waiter. The big guy come back out with him grabs my food from where the chef has just put it and brings it to me. He apologizes and grabs my drink to refill it. This kind of customers service is unacceptable and just plain rude. I used to come all the time when the Red head worked there. I would sit in the first booth and alway ask for her!! I haven't seen her the last few times I came in and ask the Hispanic girl because they were both great servers, especially together! She told me she moved to Austin. That's why I say the service USED to be great. Both girls looked young, but still cared more about the service than the conversation or disappearing. The manager needs to find awesome servers like them and this place will be back to the place I love and spend tons of time at. I would buy 4 or 5 (sexy mamas, screaming ahi, me luv you long time, and superman) rolls and several "Sake on the beach". For now I will take my money else where. After nearly 2 years in frisco, I finally hot around to trying this place out and I would happily go back. In fact I'm writing this on a full and happy stomach! Started with the spicy chili edamame and gyoza, both delicious. The sauce on the edamame was addicting! A non sushi eating friend was happy with her chicken teriyaki which looked and smelt delicious over a small bed of ramen and veggies with a side of sticky white rice. We then shared some signature rolls at the table and I rank them as: double d, high maintenance, sex on the beach (but I do not like smoked salmon, but after picking that top piece off I liked it). Prices are about $12-15 on those but you can get regular rolls for $5-9. Service was accommodating but a little funny (ex-had to ask for more ice as when they refilled waters they didn't have any ice added, had to request another service set when another person joined our table). Overall the food was good and service was good (although the chicken entree did come before the sushi and all was ordered at the same time) so I look forward to going back. We used to really love this place, but since they have gotten a little busier the service has gone and the prices have gone up. Sapporro's used to be $4 and now they're $6.50 and a glass of wine is about the same price for a fraction of the amount. My glass last night was mayyyyyyybe 4 oz? And, there use to be about 2-3 guys behind the sushi bar and they took their time making your rolls so that the finished product was nice, neat, and fresh. Now, there are about 5-7 guys fighting for room to work. Sitting at the bar is annoying because there are waitresses coming on either side of you reaching over you to the bar with some guy screaming at them to pick up their rolls....kind of makes for a hard conversation. For the price, I was very disappointed! It's hard to say if we'll return or not because this is the closes sushi place to us :( read more

Sake Toro...a usual sushi go to for us. The "Who's your daddy" roll...yummy. Service usually pretty decent...the last time with family and tonight not so much. No idea who our waiter/waitress really was. Not many people that made contact knew menu nor prices...found one bearded guy...no name mentioned...he knew his stuff...thanks... Ordered extra ginger...he said he'd make a note...nope...had to ask three people for more. Saki...love HOT SAKI...not warm...had to send it back twice..luckily the 2nd guy "got it" and put it over a flame and heated it nicely...thanks bud! Had to verballt flag down a waiter to get a new napkin after their soy sauce bottle had a leak...tried to get a waiter to help clean the table bur nobody around that would amle eye contact...so i cleaned the table amd fot someone to help...Water glass got refilled after all food had been finished after one waitress came by after forgetting something...wouldnt have noticed before...now we sit for 20 min after being finished with people all around with no contact nor check in sight...yeah... service...absolute horrid today (and last time with family:()... We are back to getting up...finding someone and asking for a check to leave...before we leave still waiting 20 min on ginger... Update later maybe... Update...after posting my wife got up and found an employee to get our check...it was the nice guy...but he had no idea what table.she was from!.. This restaurant only has 16 tables...you'd think after helping us at one point he'd know.. So my wife got the check...we tipped as you should...however we had NO idea whom we were tipping! Decided to meet my husband after work here for dinner. Started off with a house salad and the hubs got the miso clam soup. We both enjoyed that. Then we decided to order some sushi rolls and decided on the Something wrong roll, volcano, spider and eel roll. They were really good except for the rolls that had to much sauce which made the rice really soggy. They put alot of sauce.way to much for my taste. To finish the meal we had some strawberry mochi that was a nice refreshing and light dessert to top everything off. We came at 6 and left at 730 took awhile to get our bill and dessert. Went in last Friday night at 5:30 and the service was absolutely terrible. No one that worked there had any idea what was going on. Took forever to be seated. After finally just grabbing an employee and putting ourselves at a table it took another 10 min to see a server. The staff was unfriendly and our waiter smelled terrible. If he had come to the table more than once We would have left. I can't believe they let him work smelling like that. The food was sub par and also took ridiculous amount of time. Once we received the bill the sub total and grand total were $4 apart. They added their own tip. Just a terrible place. I would not recommend it. Spend your money at Densetsu instead. This place is terrible. I ordered 6 California rolls, 6 spicy tuna rolls and a grilled salmon, $43. Not the meal mind you, $18 for a palm sized grilled salmon steak and no sides. The sushi was very small, the meat inside was pureed but it all tasted ok. They brought out our plates one at a time over the course of 1.5 hours such that by the time they brought mine out, everyone at the the table was done and the waitress had picked their plates up. Of course had I known ordering just a piece of meat was going to cost me $18, I wouldn't have waited the 1.5 hours. Mediocre food, crazy expensive prices and poor service. read more
