The yakitori skewers were nicely grilled with a good char and flavor, especially the chicken and beef options. Came in tonight for a super last minute birthday dinner for my cousin. We originally had plans for another spot but because the vibe was off; we left called into Sakesan and was able to get a reservation for 12 in their private karaoke room, just wow! They even offer a happy hour on the weekends until 6pm so the bill was not that expensive for their happy hour options. The food came out quick. The service was great. Everything was delicious. Would I come back again? Absolutely, especially since they were able to accommodate our large party within an hour of calling to see if they had any openings. Sakesan is my go to if I'm looking to get high quality and decently affordable sushi in SF and I always have a great time there. Their fish quality is always really good and if your someone who loves a crunch in your roll, I highly recommend the Angry Bird roll which is definitely my favorite. There are also 2 karaoke rooms that allow you to enjoy good food while singing with your party as well! Highly recommend making a reservation for that and trying out that experience. The staff are kind, attentive, and the service is quick! They're always busy but I've never had to wait too long for a table. If you want the special seating on a busy night, it might be best to make a reservation. Their menu is extensive and I haven't had anything I dislike. I loved the salmon tataki and the spicy tuna tartare tacos. The tacos had a fun crunch and interesting concept for the wrap while the tuna was very flavorful. I love the ambiance of this place! Definitely make a reservation if you plan on coming for dinner. We were a large party of 9 and got the lower table reserved. It was fun to take off our shoes and lower ourselves into the comfy and intimate table setting. Our server was prompt and quick to check on us throughout the meal. Be warned, The Boot is 6 beers (2 liters) large! I tried an oyster for the first time (they're only $1) and they weren't too bad. It comes with yuzu and lemon. I also had the Toro sashimi, Hawaii roll and negi hamachi. The rolls had a bit too much rice for my liking and I regretted not getting a roll with sauce. The menu consisted of 3 separate double-sided pages so there are tons of choices to choose from! Overall I do recommend this place looking for some sushi in the city. Service: I booked one of the larger karaoke rooms that can seat about 13. I had some issues booking initially, but once that went through, it was smooth sailing. We came right before happy hour (around 5:30, happy hour ends at 6pm every night) and ordered everything. Basically 3 of all the appetizers and maybe 4 pitchers of beer and 4 hot sakes as well. The staff was very friendly and was quick to take our orders and checked in with us occasionally to see if we needed anything. Ambiance: Since we were sequestered to the room, i can't really speak to how loud it busy it was, but we had a good time singing in our room. We were able to pick our songs pretty easily, but we needed some help adjusting the background singing vs ours. Food: Honestly, everything we ordered was pretty solid. There wasn't anything that stood out as amazing or poor. While I am giving 3 stars because the server was polite and professional, the food quality and how my feedback was handled were very disappointing for a $$$ restaurant. * The Food Issue: The sushi rice was freezing cold and hard to the touch. Honestly, it felt like eating sushi from a Japanese supermarket, but even the supermarket version is often better because their rice isn't this hard. When I pointed this out, I was told it was "room temperature," but it was clearly chilled. * The Atmosphere: From my table, I had to watch the staff take the plate back to the sushi bar and discuss my feedback right in front of me. It felt very uncomfortable to be "talked about" instead of receiving a simple, direct apology. The selection is decent and the price isn't too far off from their regular menu, but a discount is a discount haha. Wow, do they have good Happy Hour specials (including the weekend!). My sister got a plate of 6 oysters and a salmon roll, and I got the fried mushrooms and futo making. The fried mushrooms were EXCELLENTLY battered, though I believe the kitchen forgot to add the truffle salt. I told a waitress and she added a very light sprinkle, which improved the dish. The futo maki was fine--nothing specifically interesting about it. My sister enjoyed the salmon roll and all of the oysters except one (it was very plump so she saved it for last, but said the inside was creamy in a strange way and she didn't know if that was purposeful. She did have a stomachache afterwards, but that might not be because of the oyster). The waiters were all very nice and frequently checked in on us. The interiors are impressive with high ceilings and plenty of seating with tasteful Japanese decor. Plus they had the 49er game on two of their large TV screens. The Aloha roll was our favorite, we loved the mango sauce that it came with and the mango with it was refreshing. The spider roll was yummy except was smaller than expected. The gambler roll was alright, it came with fire in the middle but we did not like the spicy sauce it came with. We had them put it on the side since it said it was really spicy but we didn't like the taste of it. Next time I want to try their tako wasabi, i saw it on the menu towards the end of the night when we were full already. If you want to book for a bigger party just know there is a 20% service charge and then there's another 4% surcharge for some sort of SF mandate and if you bring a cake for a birthday there is a cake fee per person. This has been me and my bf's go-to sushi spot in SF for years! It's finally time I make a review. We always come here for their $1 oysters which is available daily. You have to order a half dozen or dozen. They're so fresh and delicious. So I highly suggest it if you're an oyster lover. We usually order rolls and nigiris from here. I've probably tried almost all the rolls and they're all good! Something fun to order if you're with a group of friends is the Gambler Roll. I believe it has salmon, tuna and pineapple with a spicy mayo sauce but BEWARE, one of them is extremely spicy! I've had friends say it's tolerable but some could barely handle the heat. I have yet to try that piece. But the roll itself is good IMO. Another thing we love to order is the Crispy Mushroom with Truffle Salt. It has the perfect crispiness and very addicting. I usually order Amaebi nigiri (Sweet shrimp) and it comes in 2 pcs. They also fry the heads for you and it taste just like shrimp chips which I love! And then the salmon belly, kurodai, kanpachi, hamachi, umi masu and blue fin toro nigiris are also delicious! My last visit here, I finally got to try the 10 pc omakase, I forgot which fishes I got but I remembered everything being sooo good. I believe I got a pc of A5 wagyu too! The food here is always fire! Make sure you order the fresh wasabi, trust me it makes a huge difference. We start off with a dozen fresh oysters (nutty and slightly sweet) and order a bottle of sake. Always a great start to the meal. This time we ordered their special items: Sunrise (creamy texture) & Trifecta (very rich in flavor because of the uni), 5 PC omakase (large slices of fosh), and hamachi jalepeno roll (spicy jalepeno was a hit or miss, careful). The owner hooked us up with other fresh fish of the day and it was spectacular. The kids get the beef udon and they give us side bowls to cool down the temperature as they eat. Getting the crispy mushrooms and ask them to fry it extra crispy is always a must. Such a hidden secret. It's like French fries but earthy flavour. I love the music, mostly karaoke tunes playing. Sakesan Clement was a staple for me so when it closed down for renovation I decided to try out this location. The inside is super cool, I love the special seating where you take your shoes off, feels more authentic. Service is always fast and the servers are always friendly. This place is just ok, came here for the HH deals and ended up still spending $100 for 2. Although that's not terrible for sushi it's still not exactly cheap or a deal. For HH I would just order one fried appetizer because they actually give you a fair amount, weird thing is they don't give u anything to dip with them so u have to ask for spicy mayo or even tempura sauce on the side. Oof, I really wanted to try Sakesan because of all the great reviews, but I was very disappointed ordering delivery from here. The restaurant in pictures looks great from the inside and I can't speak on the service at all, but I thought this would be a promising option for some sushi, udon, and ramen. The order was prepped pretty quickly and the ramen and udon broths were still hot when they arrived at my home. I ordered: - Cherry Blossom Roll - Rock-N-Roll Roll - Sushi Combination with California Roll - Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen Value wise everything is pretty standard, but my biggest issue was just the quality and flavor of everything that I ordered. The fish did not taste or smell fresh which was disappointing. When you press your chopsticks against the fish, a bunch of liquid would leak out and my family and I felt uncomfortable eating the rest of the nigiri and tossed out half of the box. The California Roll from the sushi combo was also one of the sadder imitation crab fillings that I have seen and was very bland in flavor. The Cherry Blossom Roll was a bit concerning to eat too just because of the overall freshness of the sashimi. The Rock-N-Roll really was the only roll that I got that was decent and the sushi rice had a good texture. My mom got the beef udon (not pictured), but she said it was overloaded with msg flavor and the broth tasted sweet which is odd for an udon. The Black Garlic Tonkotsu was disappointing because I the broth was okay even though it had a hint of sweetness too. The noodles were fine and the soft boiled egg was marinated and cooked at the right length. The chashu pork was incredibly dry. It is one of the most important aspects of a Tonkotsu ramen and that left me a bit whelmed with the ramen. Possible unpopular opinion, but I really am not a big fan of this restaurant and my most recent experience ordering from here. Asian mom approved! This place is our cafeteria, our go-to, our favorite place. I can't believe this restaurant is even in our neighborhood but it's 10/10 a gem. I think I've been here about 30 times (I know, just take all my money.) Of the 30 times, 95% are for their happy hour. Most items are only $1-$3 cheaper than the normal price but it adds up! Their menu doesn't change drastically but it never gets shorter. There's 4 pages worth of yumminess. Do try their Gyutan Curry, $1 Oysters, ANY of their appetizers, and most importantly, the fried nankotsu. I'm a nankotsu girly - it's the crunch, the flavor, and perfect ratio of meat to cartilage. I have to say, they mastered it here. For $9, the price is not cheap, but you just have to try it at least once. This is now the third time in a row that my order has been mishandled. First, they brought the bill before the full order even arrived. Then, when the rest finally came, they still forgot my main dish -- and once again brought the bill before fixing it. The service sequence is all over the place. Appetizers can show up at any random time, sometimes after the main course. I've repeatedly asked for rice to be served with my kama or beef, but it never comes together. Either the rice arrives early and gets cold, or it comes much later after I'm halfway through the meal. It's really disappointing because the food itself deserves praise -- but the dine-in experience is such a mess that it ruins what could be an otherwise great local gem. A big group of us had fun doing karaoke + dinner here back in February 2024. Note this is mostly a restaurant, with a couple of karaoke rooms. These are not private in the same way as in dedicated karaoke spots - these have a glass door, and the wall to the hallway has windows. It's not one of those soundproof rooms with a heavy door. Our group got pretty into our singing and anytime we went to the main dining room we realized we were blasting the diners with our terrible singing! RESERVATIONS Made by phone a few weeks in advance for one of their two private karaoke rooms. THE COST $752.82 total, including tax & tip, for 12 of us. We had tons of food and a decent amount of alcohol. The karaoke room was free with a $350 minimum which we easily met. We were there for 3 hours, and I think it cost $40 for us to extend it for another hour (until 10pm). THE KARAOKE Pretty good selection! Lots of Western and Asian songs, both newer and more classic, all with the real video. However, the interface takes some getting used to, and the search isn't great. There were a lot of songs they had in the system but you couldn't find easily by search (I think you had to search the initials of the song, like the first letter of each word or something), but you had to browse to find it. THE FOOD Pretty good, lots of Sake & Soju options for drinks, the Japanese appetizers & rolls average 3-4 stars. read more

My partner and I ordered oysters, the giant roll, takoyaki, a Peach Sochu Highball and also hotate & uni. scallops were fresh and i actually enjoyed the tobiko topping (which i was not expecting). the takoyaki did not stand out; i found that there was too much batter for the amount of octopus inside. the other foods made up for their lackluster takoyaki though! the Giant Roll was pretty good, very filling and salmon was fresh. Wow I haven't visited this restaurant in over 2 years and it's still as good as I can remember. What's even crazier is that their oysters are still $1 each!!! In this economy?! Yes please. I love the variety of options this establishment provides which persuaded us to come in the first place. Sushi, sashimi, robata, ramen, donburi, oysters, you name it! No complaints with any of the dishes but our favorites of the night: $1 oysters, spicy black garlic tonkotsu ramen, gambler roll, and the matcha plum wine. The ramen was flavorful and had the perfect amount of black garlic. There was a caution for the gambler roll but I didn't find it spicy at all -- just fiery (literally). I enjoyed trying the matcha plum wine but it was quite expensive for the amount given. Some robatas were skippable. Just as we were about to leave they were starting Sunday night happy hour from 9-10 pm. $5 Asahi/Sapporo beers and discounted appetizers. Night time HH is Sunday-Thursday from 9-10 pm & everyday 4-6 pm. Perfect date night spot. Really cheerful and attentive service. The plates came out super quickly. We love this place for their private karaoke room. We have done my husband's birthday here almost every year....for the last 3-4 years? The largest room fits about 12 people comfortably. The minimum is $450 I think. Easy to hit when you do food and drinks. Service is really great, they're attentive and very helpful. Food is always solid. Song selections are great and they actually have the music video to most songs too. Maybe it helps that my parents don't live too far away from here, so we can walk but parking also isn't as bad as the richmond of course. Hope they stay here forever!
