Spent about $66.66 Was feeling Japanese Curry, so got me seafood with Unagi, Inari, and a Salmon Belly prior! So good! I loved it. I wanna come back for their $68 20 Piece Omakase. Boosting up my review since 7 years ago. I should come back again. I like the VIP feel of the seats by the window. Remove shoes and sit with your socks with your group. Feels special.

First time trying the tatami seating area, where you have to take off your shoes, and I really enjoyed that unique experience. Sakesan is my go to if I'm looking to get high quality and decently affordable sushi in SF and I always have a great time there. Their fish quality is always really good and if your someone who loves a crunch in your roll, I highly recommend the Angry Bird roll which is definitely my favorite. There are also 2 karaoke rooms that allow you to enjoy good food while singing with your party as well! Highly recommend making a reservation for that and trying out that experience. Overall, if you're ever in SF and looking for sushi, Sakesan is definitely a place that you should check out.

    $1 oysters

Love it here. You can't find $1 oysters anywhere else. And they're GOOD! They have normal tables and a shoes-off seating area. I love how cozy it feels. The staff are kind, attentive, and the service is quick! They're always busy but I've never had to wait too long for a table. If you want the special seating on a busy night, it might be best to make a reservation. Their menu is extensive and I haven't had anything I dislike. It's rare for a place to do both sushi AND hot Japanese dishes (ramen, curry, etc) well. Their happy hour is great and I want to try the karaoke room sometime!

I ordered the : Spicy tuna tartare tacos hamachi shots Volcano roll Salmon tataki quail eggs tai carpacio(red snapper) This was one of the most fun and tasty meals I've had in a while. I loved the salmon tataki and the spicy tuna tartare tacos. The tacos had a fun crunch and interesting concept for the wrap while the tuna was very flavorful. The volcano roll had a ton of tempura flakes which were fun to eat in between each piece. The hamachi shot was also flavorful with fresh cubes of hamachi but the ponzu made it too salty when I took the shot. The red snapper was nice but wasn't for me. The quail eggs were the most simple and more of a appetizer

I love the ambiance of this place! Definitely make a reservation if you plan on coming for dinner. We were a large party of 9 and got the lower table reserved. It was fun to take off our shoes and lower ourselves into the comfy and intimate table setting. Our server was prompt and quick to check on us throughout the meal. Be warned, The Boot is 6 beers (2 liters) large! I tried an oyster for the first time (they're only $1) and they weren't too bad. It comes with yuzu and lemon. I also had the Toro sashimi, Hawaii roll and negi hamachi. The rolls had a bit too much rice for my liking and I regretted not getting a roll with sauce. The menu consisted of 3 separate double-sided pages so there are tons of choices to choose from! Overall I do recommend this place looking for some sushi in the city. Make your meal choice wisely!

Pretty large restaurant with plenty of seating. Happy hour options are nice and everything is pretty affordable. Solid neighborhood option.

Food was great, service was excellent AND loved the environment! Had a wonderful selection on the happy hour menu AND a pretty large regular menu as well.

Title: 3 Stars: Polite service, but food quality is below supermarket standards I walked in for a meal on Jan 17, 2026. While I am giving 3 stars because the server was polite and professional, the food quality and how my feedback was handled were very disappointing for a $$$ restaurant. * The Food Issue: The sushi rice was freezing cold and hard to the touch. Honestly, it felt like eating sushi from a Japanese supermarket, but even the supermarket version is often better because their rice isn't this hard. When I pointed this out, I was told it was "room temperature," but it was clearly chilled. * The Atmosphere: From my table, I had to watch the staff take the plate back to the sushi bar and discuss my feedback right in front of me. It felt very uncomfortable to be "talked about" instead of receiving a simple, direct apology. Not once did anyone come back to say sorry. * The Service/Value: I want to be fair--our server was polite, and they did eventually remove the item from our $84.74 bill. To show my appreciation for the service despite the food issues, I still left a 20% tip. I hope management improves their rice preparation. At this price point, I expected much better than supermarket-grade sushi.

Stopped by here for their happy hour on a Sunday and we didn't have a wait for a party of two :). Sakesan has Happy Hour everyday from 4 pm - 6 pm. The selection is decent and the price isn't too far off from their regular menu, but a discount is a discount haha. We ended up ordering the Tuna Tartare tacos, Philly Roll, Crispy Mushroom, Dynamite Mussels and Dragon Roll. We honestly loved everything and everything was super tasty! They were a good portion size as well :). We even ordered the Tuna Tartare tacos twice since we liked it so much! Overall, Sakesan is spacious and the restaurant was clean! I know they have karaoke rooms as well if you're interested in booking a group gathering there!

    Fried mushrooms
    Jeanie N.

Wow, do they have good Happy Hour specials (including the weekend!). My sister got a plate of 6 oysters and a salmon roll, and I got the fried mushrooms and futo making. The fried mushrooms were EXCELLENTLY battered, though I believe the kitchen forgot to add the truffle salt. I told a waitress and she added a very light sprinkle, which improved the dish. The futo maki was fine--nothing specifically interesting about it. My sister enjoyed the salmon roll and all of the oysters except one (it was very plump so she saved it for last, but said the inside was creamy in a strange way and she didn't know if that was purposeful. She did have a stomachache afterwards, but that might not be because of the oyster). The waiters were all very nice and frequently checked in on us. If you go later in the evening, it tends to get very loud in there (especially if you're by karaoke rooms), but it's otherwise quiet and comfortable before 7pm.

I absolutely love this restaurant! I love ordering their hot tea and miso soup with a few sushi rolls and ending it with mango cheesecake. Their staff is very friendly and the food comes out fresh and in a timely manner.

Awesome spot for your 4-6pm Happy Hour ! Great selections and great service as well. They have tables where you can take off your foots and tables that are standard. Believe there is private rooms or karaoke rooms as well.

    Tako wasabi, yummy oyster
    Wen L.

$1 oysters were yummy. Tako wasabi (which we originally thought was the live tentacles, but was not) was good and the texture was nice, crunchy soft spicy feeling in the mouth. The beef in the beef sukiyaki was very dry. Would not get the beef sukiyaki again but would get the oysters!

It was good vibes and a nice comfortable neighborhood spot for families friends, or date night. Since our order wasn't ready, the waitress offered us hot tea and a seat at the bar while we waited. All of their sashimi at the bar looked fresh and areas were clean and organized. For the platter, we ordered the I.Special Hot Roll Tray. Sushi rice was all well seasoned and perfectly cooked. Flavors were all great, and all rolls were a little bit different that offered variety. Things I usually get weary about for new Sushi spots, is fishyness or deep fried/cooked rolls coming out super dry and hard. All of the rolls were great and exceeded my expectations including the price point considering the type and # of rolls we got. Friendly staff and worth a visit!

Also I mentioned from my previous review, that, it is really nice to see a female as the sushi maker. The vibe here is really great as well! We ordered sashimi deluxe (16 pieces), rainbow roll and volcano roll. All I can say is, they have the best rolls I have ever eaten! The rainbow rolls rice and crab is moist, the fish melts in your mouth and so full of flavors. The avocado on the top was a great touch as well. The volcano roll was warm and yummy. This roll melt in your mouth as you chew it. Both were Soooo fresh and delicious!!!! The sashimi deluxe presentation was beautiful in a huge white bowl, filled with ice and daikon strings, orchid flowers and fish eggs. The 4 types of fish were beautifully decorated on the top. Wow, every bite was so amazing, so fresh and the texture of the sashimi was like eating an A5 wagyu or filet mignon. It was that delicious and such an amazing experience. We were in Japan last year and the sushi here is way, way better! This place is truly a gem. I can't express it enough how amazing this place is! You need to go if you want to experience a great sushi/sashimi.

OUR PICKS BENTO BOX ($17) + BEEF TERIYAKI (+$2) ~ Miso soup, rice, and a side salad. I requested the beef to be cooked medium rare. My guy and I both ordered the beef teriyaki, so we were hoping for medium-rare or at least tender beef. Unfortunately, my beef came out well done and was pretty tough. That was disappointing. The salad consisted of a few sprigs of lettuce with a tiny bite of seaweed salad, along with a bowl of short-grain rice. 3/5 BENTO BOX ($17) + BEEF TERIYAKI (+$2) + 5 PCS SASHIMI (+$3) ~ The beef teriyaki was the same as mine, but his was lukewarm because his bento took an additional 10 minutes to arrive. The only difference was the 5 pieces of sashimi. The kitchen did not coordinate the dishes to be served at the same time. I had almost finished my bento before his arrived at the table. The only highlight was the sashimi, which was fresh and nicely sliced. He was also missing the miso soup and didn't bother asking for it since miso soup isn't something he cares to drink, but it would have been nice to have the option. 3/5 CRAZY GIRL ROLL ~ Deep-fried soft-shell crab and cucumber topped with spicy tuna, jalapeño, and special sauce. A good roll with a nice bit of spice. 4/5 The salmon and tuna sashimi seemed fresh and buttery. I also appreciated the flying insect light, which helped keep the dining area free of flies and mosquitoes. Unfortunately, the beef teriyaki was not up to our expectations. The beef was overcooked and tough, and the second bento arrived much later than the first. We probably should have stuck with the fish. I wouldn't recommend ordering the beef teriyaki, but the sashimi and Crazy Girl Roll were enjoyable.
