I was here this past weekend with my husband and kids. We ordered off the sushi lunch menu and got a lot of rolls to try. They were 3 for $10.99 and each plate came with salad and miso soup. I was very happy with everything... all the rolls were nice and tight and held together well. The taste combinations were delicious... especially the tempura rolls, Boston rolls, and the spicy salmon rolls. Everyone left quite satisfied. We were headed to Applebee's but my husband spotted this place across the street. I looked up reviews and decided to give it a try. We are very glad we did! Never have we heard of a Chinese and sushi place but it is great! Husband got the 3 roll lunch special for $10.99 and I got the shrimp bento box special for $8.99. Sushi was huge and the soup and salad were great. Shrimp was done well and coated in just the right amount of teriyaki. We will be back for sure! read more

I've been there a couple times, once with family, including my father who was in Japan for a good portion of his adult life. He enjoyed himself as much as I did. The place is small and a little takeouty; you often get people coming in and just picking up their food while you're there. It may be disruptive for some, especially sitting at the front of end of the restaurant, but it has never been an issue to me and there's always the tables further to the back. I've taken the takeout route a couple times myself, and they pack everything separately and neatly so that it all survives the trip home. The sushi comes in a cute box with a clear lid and the standard accompaniments of soy sauce, wasabi and ginger. The menu has both Japanese and Chinese offerings, though it leans more toward Chinese and just sushi, missing some of the dishes that you might find in a dedicated Japanese restaurant, such as the rice bowl (donburi). Their sushi list is pretty extensive though, and their prices all quite reasonable. I love Sakura's lunch menu - they have sushi options as well as bento box and Chinese dishes, all for around or under ten bucks. The service is usually fast and friendly, whether you're dining in or taking out. I've had both Japanese and Chinese dishes there, and everything has looked and tasted great. The only thing I would personally have changed is to have actual walnut pieces in the walnut shrimp, but I don't commonly find that, especially in takeout places. The food has all been of good quality and made fresh to order. It's fantastic to have a place like this close to home in an area that I frequently travel through anyway. read more

Stick to the rolls. The sushi was fantastic. The service, was awful. My girlfriend and I started off by ordering three rolls, which I thought were fantastic. I actually thought that the best one was the simplest one, as it did not have as many flavorful sauces which I feel can sometimes take away from sushi. We opted to then order two meals, because the sushi was meant only as an appetizer. Now, as a former server who worked in the field for over 6 years, I am always hesitant to complain, let alone send something back, but both dishes came out very salty, bland and chewy. We asked if we could do something different, such as more sushi and I was yelled at in Chinese. The waitress, who I suspect was also the manager, came over and really blew my mind. She informed us that, and I quote, "All Chinese food the same", and "no one else say it salty", so she had decided that after taking our food away she was only going to comp us for one meal. At this point we asked for the bill because we certainly weren't going to stay any longer. After seeing that we intended to pay with a groupon, which meant that we would be asked to review the deal after leaving, she had a change of heart. She was going to give us one specialty roll on the house while still charging us for one of the meals. So as a disappointed customer, I order the most expensive specialty roll, admittedly in spite. After all this, she then brings the bill back, has deleted both our meals, and added the specialty roll to the bill, because the sum total was 80 cents more. We promptly paid and left. The lesson to be learned here, is that Sakura GARDEN is not the same as Sakura HOME (on Monroe ave in Pittsford). Again, the rolls were great, but the overall experience means that I will be getting my sushi elsewhere in the future. read more

I have eaten here several times now, and finally got around to a review. While the outside location is unattractive, the sushi makes up for it. If you are a sushi lover, you want to try this place. It certainly beats out the likes of California Rollin for quality. I would compare it to Sakura Home, only much smaller, and a larger variety of rolls. Lunch offers 2 rolls (very large selection) for $8 or 3 rolls for $11. both come with soup & salad. They offer all the standards, plus some interesting crunchy spicy rolls that are unique. They don't go overboard on sauces. Everything is as fresh as you can get in Rochester. I loved the eel avocado, spicy crunchy tuna, salmon and spicy salmon. Went here on a whim. This is a combination Chinese/Sushi restaurant located in a strip mall, with cafeteria style seating. I did not expect anything beyond food poisoning. I was VERY surprised. Sushi is not about fish. Sushi is about rice. This place has the best sushi rice in the county. I can't speak to anything else, all we got was Sushi, but the rice here is simply the best. A friend recommended this place, as he eats here once a week because "it's all good and very affordable." They have a wide variety of sushi and Asian food. I've been twice and both times was DELIGHTED with the Japanese Teriyaki Chicken for $12.95, which includes white rice, miso soup, and a salad. A very generous portion of chicken (large chunks) and julienned strips of zucchini and other vegetables in a delicious teriyaki sauce. Friendly service. Prepare to Be Surprised - - Today This restaurant just opened up a few weeks back. It's not easy to see from the road, so if you blink you might miss it. I'm glad that we didn't. My boyfriend and I went here because I noticed that in addition to sushi, which he likes and I don't, they had a nice menu of chinese entrees as well. Although the store front might give the impression that the restaurant is typical 'fast food' take-out, the interior quickly dispels that impression with it's sparkling clean floors, countertops and tables. The decor is modern and tasteful and the wait staff professional. Seating can be found at the sushi bar, at spacious tables, or comfortable booths. I had a shrimp and chinese vegetable lunch special (with won-ton soup) for a little under $7 that was fantastic. The food was exceptionally fresh. The 5 shrimp that were part of my dish were large and cooked to perfection. The water chestnuts tasted buttery, the bok choi had not a trace of bitterness. Everything tasted fresh made: even the won-tons in my soup. My boyfriend's sushi was high quality and fresh. He gave it a thumbs up. We both split an order of egg rolls. They were - again - fresh and light. One downside - if you like a drink with dinner: they don't serve alcohol. But don't let that stop you from ordering, they have take-out. I can't wait to try another dish here . . . which will be very soon. And if the owner reads this: I think you guys have raised the bar on local sushi and Chinese with the quality of your food. Two suggestions though: (1) Add sparkling water (soda doesn't cut it), saki and asian beer on your menu. And (2) offer delivery service, in addition to take out. These are things that people often look for (and which your competitors are currently offering). The little things sometimes do make a difference. read more

This place has large portions. Sushi is served very cold. It blows California Rollin' (Village Gate location anyways) away. More food for the money. In particular the fish portions are probably almost double what other places in the area serve. I don't know if they do this because they are new and are trying to attract business. I've eaten dinner here several times. Food is always good. Service has been steadily improving. Try the soups, they are all excellent! The first time I visited, we wound up walking out after we waited 1/2 hour to order and over 45 minutes for food. They were brand new at the time. We gave them about 6 months to get settled, then tried again as they are located in our neighborhood and we appreciate good Thai food. The second visit may us glad we gave them another chance. Good food, prompt service, decent atmosphere. We've eaten there 20 times or so, and haven't had a bad experience other than the first time. This was our first visit thanks to Groupon. I was very happy to discover that even though it was not on the menu, the chef was willing to make lemon chicken for me. Not only did he prepare the dish, he went the extra mile to garnish it with a lovely lemon carving. The food was plentiful and very good. The only complaint was the dinners that my husband and mother in law ordered had scallops that were bitter tasting. Lowered my rating in this place. We always get sushi. The sushi is great. My first impression of The Chinese from their Chinese menu is not so great. For the first time last night I ventured away from the sushi menu and decided to try the Chinese food. Big mistake. I got the sesame chicken and the chicken was more fatty chicken and breading then actual chicken. I threw it out after my second time biting into nothing but breaded chicken fat... Gross. Which left my container of food about 85% full (what a waste of money). The rest of my family did enjoy their sushi however. I lost my appetite. read more

2nd time I stopped in for lunch to take home. Both times the staff has been eating when I get there. The chef was carrying around a plate that he was snacking on before he prepared food and one of the ladies up front was eating a bowl of noodles. Two visits the same thing. Got teriyaki salmon this time and argued with the server about whether I was to get 3 pieces of shuemai or 2 (menu says 3). So got everything home & it is disgusting. A dried up slice of salmon, you cannot even call it a filet, thrown on a bunch of white rice with a smidgen of sauce. The salad was a baby handful just thrown in the container. No soy, chopsticks, wasabi anything you would expect to get at a Chinese restaurant in a to-go order. I called to complain & they could've cared less. She said, (hard to keep a straight face) "you got it two hours ago, it probably just dried out on the way home". So food just spontaneously dries out now? Quick kids, we've got no time to waste!
