I ordered from here online then called to change one of the items and the women on the phone tells me that they did not receive the order yet and she'd call me back when it came in. So I'm waiting for her to call me back then after a while someone knocks on my door and its the delivery guy so I ask was the item changed. I look and no it was not, so I call back and she goes "ohh well its too late, you can order more". So now I'm stuck paying extra for food I didn't want. I eat at Sakura Grill in Burke, Virginia on a regular basis. In my opinion Sakura Grill is probably one of the better Japanese restaurants in Northern Virginia, especially on a budget. The facility exceeds average standards, and the customer service is good. There are many things to choose from on the menu. During my last visit I ordered three specialty sushi rolls, and they were the Wasabi Roll, Out of Control Roll, and Volcano Roll. The Wasabi Roll and Out of Control Roll were pretty good. I was not particularly fond of the Volcano Roll because of the fried crust around it. However, this is simply just my opinion. I will certainly come back to Sakura Grill, and I definitely recommend this restaurant. I provided pictures of the three specialty rolls: Wasabi Roll, Out of Control Roll, and Volcano Roll. Allow me to preface this review by saying sushi in DC Metro area is subpar. Then there's sushi restaurants in the suburbs of NOVA that's a whole another sad story. This was my unnecessarily judgmental mentality walking into Sakura Grill, but had a pleasantly surprising experience! So if you come with a similar mentality, I promise this place is 4-5 star worthy in its own little category. The restaurant itself is humbly tucked away in a strip mall and not any bigger than the nail salon next door, but this place is definitely a no frills sushi restaurant. My friend and I ordered 2 standard rolls (spicy tuna and spicy scallop) and Sushi Lovers entree which comes with 10 pieces of sushi (tuna, salmon, yellowtail) and a salmon roll. I really appreciated that the fish was fresh and that they didn't simply slab some thawed sashimi on top of vinegar rice. I'm the most impressed by their generous fish to rice ratio, which I think will become their main "word-of-mouth" selling point. On top of all this, everything on the menu is generally ($3-4) cheaper than your average sushi restaurant in this area. The unfortunate reality of all this is that once people find out and congregate to Burke, this place will undoubtedly start raising their prices and possibly even sneak in some extra rice underneath that glorious salmon. Hopefully this won't be the case, so for now, I will most definitely be coming back to try other entree items! read more

I am impressed with this place! I decided to order rolls for lunch as they had pretty good deals for my favorite salmon rolls. 3 rolls for $12 during lunch time and it even came with a small salad. I can't comment on their service as I never actually dined inside, but my rolls had THIN layer of rice and THICK THICK cuts of fish and avocado. It's hard to find places that do this. I'll have to go back try their other dishes. If they can keep up this quality, this will become my local sushi/roll spot for sure! read more

This is hands down the best sushi in the Springfield-Burke area. I live in West Springfield, and I've gone to 6-7 different vendors, but I always come back to Sakura as my go-to. We used to love Sakura, they had the best sushi in the area, until recently. We ordered a couple months ago and really were not as happy as we had been, the food just wasn't as "fresh" as years prior. We thought it may have been a fluke and tried it again this week, sadly. Their prices are higher than many other places now and the sushi was not fresh at all. The scallops were the worst quality I've ever seen come out of this restaurant and they didn't make them spicy like they used to (in the past they would cut up the scallops and mix it with an incredible spicy sauce; now they just laid them out flat over the rice and drizzled some hot sauce that was all heat and no flavor). The tamago (egg) was dried out and rubber-like and cut thinner than normal, we couldn't eat them. The avocado was cut in a way that still had part of the shell attached, we've never seen that before, my daughter wouldn't eat it because of how it looked (and she normally LOVES avocado!). I can only assume the wonderful sushi chef they had is gone and the replacement is not as good. I gave it two stars because their delivery is quick and the delivery guy is always nice, but I think we're done with Sakura for now. read more

I loveeeee Sakura Grill!! This place has been my favorite spot this past year. When I first moved to Burke I couldn't find any good sushi and sashimi until I tried Sakura grill. I probably order from here every 2 months for my family who all love sushi. It's not too pricey and the sushi is always great. They've gotten all my orders right even the really large orders. They have lots of stuff on the menu as well. I've tried some and they were just as good but sushi rolls are usually my family's go-to. What a hidden gem. First time here and while it's situated in a strip mall, don't let that scare you off. We started with some Miso soup and I have to say it was probably the best I've tasted. Understand that I have eaten Sushi at some of the top places in California, but this place beats most of the Sushi places I've been to in the States. My girl ordered a peanut avocado roll and a tempura plate. I ordered a dragon roll and California roll. It was all top tier sushi for sure. When all was said and done, I expected the bill to be high but it was actually very fairly priced. A real steal compared to other sushi places I've frequented. This was my first time here and it's phenomenal. I had the lunch special bento box with teriyaki chicken, white rice, shrimp rolls, and California rolls with a side of salad. I had the best meal I've had in a long time and this little gem is worth a million stars. It was clean, delicious, and everything complimtented each other perfectly. GF and I decided to try this place out for a quick fill up after a long morning of studying. Upon entering, we were greeted with a nice, quaint, and clean dining area, accompanied by a sushi bar facing the entrance. There were about 2 other diners around the off lunch hour that we were there, so service was quick and painless, though I can't attest to peak dinner hours. The selection is what you'd expect from a modern sushi place, though they did have some unique specials on the bulletin sitting before the entrance that we're sure to try the next time we stop by. Now here comes the good stuff, and where this establishment differentiated itself from a 4th star place, because it wanted to be so much more, so much better than all their mundane and ordinary counterparts. We ordered a roll of spicy tuna and a roll of spicy tuna. What we expected were cuts of fish and shrimp wrapped in a bed of sticky rice and nori, but what we got were slices of pure, silky gold. The two rolls were elegantly presented atop a large leaf, and on the plate adorned a beautiful sweet soy-hoison sauce butterfly garnish. It was THE most extravagant presentation I had ever seen at a sushi place that wasn't on a wooden boat. Definitely a place I will surely be coming back to whenever I get those sushi cravings. Went during a Friday night around 7pm. A couple of their tables were dirty (mind you there's only about 5-6 tables plus the bar area) that stayed "unserviced" for about 30-45 mins. Service was lackluster to say the least when there was only one table with people...and the other tables stayed unserviced. Their prawns were delicious as an appetizer. However, the sushi was mushy, mixed (chopped and mixed with something else instead of chops or slabs of the fish) in their tuna/salmon rolls. And...it felt warm.... a number of fruit flies visited us in the restaurant...both wife and I had stomach issues when we got home, not fun. YES...their "to-go" area stayed busy...just not sure if there's nearby sushi as a competitor (we really like Kana right by the Springfield mall). Creditability you may ask= I lived in Japan for a couple of years...plenty of really delectable and scrumptious FRESH sushi. I really wanted this place to be good since there are very few restaurants in the area that deliver sushi, but I was disappointed. We ordered delivery and it arrived faster than most places that deliver in the area. We ordered a couple of salmon nigiri and they smaller in size, but one order comes with two pieces so the value is pretty good. We got a couple of basic rolls (salmon, tuna, etc) and they were as expected. Tasted good and about average size. What disappointed us the most was the asparagus roll and the double yellow tail roll. The asparagus was not washed at all. Every piece of the asparagus roll had a lot of sand in it making it inedible. The sand had gotten into the rice as well so removing the piece of asparagus didn't make it better - not that an asparagus-free asparagus roll is very yummy.. The double yellow tail roll also had asparagus in it presenting the same problem. Removing the asparagus made it somewhat edible if you got a lucky piece that was sand-less, but the roll wasn't very good at all. The jalapeno on top was sort of this chopped up pickled jalapeno that didn't mesh well with the fish at all. The pickled jalapeno seemed to just be the stuff you get from a jar. Fresh jalapeno slices would have been much better. For a $13 roll, we expected much better flavor and definitely not pickled jalapenos. We also ordered the spicy tuna salad. We were expecting just larger pieces or chunks of tuna in sauce on top of salad. It was more of that chopped up tuna mixed with sauce on top of the salad. For a $7 salad, I was hoping for chunks of tuna. The flavor was good, but just didn't seem like a good value. Overall, if you only get the basic rolls, you should be fine - just stay away from anything with asparagus. read more

Ordered a number of things here and all were good, but some were better than others. The hibachi dinner was fantastic and I plan to return to order it again. The appetizers (I think spring rolls) came out piping hot and it took longer for them to cool down than the dinner. So after dinner we ate the appetizers. The combination of different ingredients & sauce that the sushi was topping off with was not overwhelming but well balanced. What stood out the most was there was minimal amount of rice on each sushi which I believe made the flavor stand out more. A lot of sushi places fails to do this and the rice overpowers the flavor of the fish & ingredient. I will definitely be going back to try their other dishes! I cannot understand why this place get such high rating. If you are looking for fresh Japanese food prepared by a Japanese chef kind of experience, then this is not the place to go. The people are nice, but the food was merely okay. If you enjoy eating grocery store pre-made sushi then you will really enjoy the sushi here as the sushi here tasted better than grocery store bought sushi, but there is still a lack in quality compared to the other Japanese restaurants that I have been to. If you are seeking freshness, well, the seaweed for the sushi was not fresh, as it was tougher than it should be. It would have been crispier/softer if it was fresh. I would not recommend you the tempura. The batter was not light, but tasted like the generic kind of tempura batter you get from a store to make it at home. Overall the service was really good, and the restroom was clean. But I doubt the food was prepared by Japanese chefs.
