I always order sushi and I get surprised everytime (I've been trying different rolls) Tonight I had a Hot Lover roll, it shocked me! the shrimp is always cooked in a good temperature, crispy, and it has spicy salmon as well which is a mild flavor and both the salmon and shrimp go well together making it a very special taste, flavorful and simply delicious. I never write comments on restaurants, but I must today. If you like sushi, DO NOT come here. This Sakura in Burke, VA, has the poorest excuse for fish. It doesn't even look like fish. And they hide it by adding the word "Crunchy" to their rolls. This means they burry fish meal in bread crumbs and then roll it in rice. I had no choice but to return 6 rolls our family of 5 ordered. Our server tried to be accommodating. She did try to explain what "Crunchy" means at this Sakura. We will never ever return. They gave us a 10% discount on $150 bill. read more

Wow. I am in this shopping center all the time and never stopped in. My husband told me a few weeks ago he had lunch there and it was great. This week i decided to try it. I rarely write reviews and rarely eat sushi..... i doordashed Sakura 3 times since Tuesday and ate in the restaurant once this week. So SO good. I cant get enough! Super impressed with my delivery order! They followed the special instructions (I have current dietary restrictions) which is extremely important to me- especially when ordering sushi. Shrimp tempura roll- came in huge thick slices. The lettuce was something different and gave it a nice addition. I asked for spicy mayo and they honored the request- so delicious. Avocado roll: huge pieces of fresh avocado stuffed into the rolls gave it excellent taste and value. Gyoza: deep fried and came with gyoza dipping sauce- very tasty! It looks like there's been a change in management and staff recently. But I've dined in a few times in the last couple weeks and their flavors and quality are excellent and consistent each time. Great presentation and very friendly staff. I'm picky about sashimi but their sashimi is very fresh. I get the yellowtail and jalapeño appetizer every time. It comes in a sweet and savory sauce. Don't be tricked to think that it is the Sakura with the hibachi table. They make it in the back. The inside of the restaurant is pretty small with 5-7 tables and 1 server who seems to do everything therefore, the service was very slow. Food was meh... FOOD POISONING! DO NOT LET THE 4 1/2 STARS FOOL YOU!! Do not let the ratings fool you, whoever reviewed this clearly does not know what good sushi is! Me and hubby were looking for a good place to eat sushi and narrowed it down to this place due to the high ratings. Hubby knew just by the look of this place that it wasn't going to be good but insisted anyway because I chose the place. Mind you, the place is very small inside with limited tables and seating. The waitress confused me for someone else and almost seated us with strangers. After realizing that she told us we can sit anywhere we'd like. It took her a while to get our drink orders and there weren't even utensils set on the table. She gave us menus but it took a long time for her to come check on us at least 10 mins. We had to order all at once because that's how long she took. For appetizers we ordered gyoza and rock shrimp. The gyoza and rock shrimp were superb, great. Just like your typical Japanese restaurant. Although the gyoza wasn't crispy on the bottom. The rock shrimp had a decent amount of mayo on it not too overwhelming. For sushi we were going to decide on individual rolls but hubby insisted on getting the sushi sashimi combo for 2. The waitress was able to customize our order and add rolls such as the volcano and the black dragon roll. We finished our appetizers quickly as we were starving and it took a long time for our sushi to be finished. Finally, a huge boat of sashimi and sushi arrives and it looks delicious! NOTE: LOOKS DELICIOUS! We dig in and honestly it's not as great as you'd think it'd be. It tasted terrible, fake, artificial. We tried to finish everything as this entire boat was $55. But everything just tasted sickening. The waitress was barely there to check on us as well. The sushi we got that was supposed to be deep fried was just cold like it's been sitting there as they took their time prepping the sashimi. It wasn't until the end of our unfortunate dinner that the waitress started checking on us more. Right after we leave hubby started feeling sick. Then later that night he began experience stomach pain and cold sweats then puked. :/ He's still recovering even when I'm writing this. FYI, I didn't get sick because I mostly ate the cooked sushi and only a few of the raw ones. But I of course didn't eat the raw ones because of how terrible it tasted. Living in Burke is challenging if you enjoy dining out! When I saw an ad for Sakura Grill, I jumped out of my seat ready to test out the dining experience. Since there are so many 'Sarku's and Sakura's', I wasn't sure who was part of whom, etc... The reviews were positive, but I hesitated for dinner. My friend and I took in the lunch experience. It's a small place located in the Shoppers Strip Mall. Parking is on the iHop side of the shopping center. The location is very small. The staff seated us right away. They offer lunch specials that include Bento boxes and sushi lunches. We went with one of each. My tempura included 2 shrimp and 4 pieces of yams/potatoes. The shrimp was the perfect crispness. The Bento included 4 tiny California-ish rolls, 3 gyoza and rice. Included in the lunch meal is your choice of soup OR salad. The salad had a very creamy dressing that I enjoyed. I also ordered their Salmon Skin roll($5). I was not a fan of this. I test out every Japanese-ish place by ordering my fav roll. There was no crispy to this skin, in fact, it was quite fishy tasting. My friend ordered the 2 choice sushi lunch($9) that included soup OR salad. She say that the tuna was very fresh. Service was very good. The staff kept checking on us and provided drink refills as needed. This place is good in a pinch since it's close to home. read more

I was just beyond the 3pm lunch menu cutoff so I had to order from the dinner menu. I went for the Spicy Maki Roll Combo. The salad was basic per the usual but the veggies were fresh and the creamy dressing was tasty. I was disappointed in the rolls, however. There was way too much crispy tempura flakes inside and not much fish. I'd honestly rather have just raw fish even if the roll would be a bit smaller. I usually don't mind the extra crunch at all but this was off balance. Can't help but too feel a little cheated - like it was there to provide more filler and allow for less fish. At any rate, service was fast and place was clean. I'm willing to give it another shot. read more
