Glad I went with my 15 yr old daughter to try it after reading mixed reviews. Most of the less positive reviews compared it to a year or two ago aren't really fair because it was a completely different restaurant and not all you can eat. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the service (it was very fast), no orders were missed, the sushi was not slimy (as I read in at least one other review). I won't say it was the best quality sushi I've ever had, but for an inexpensive all you can eat sushi place, I have no complaints at all. As someone else wrote, you can also get sashimi (3 pieces for every 1 roll - and they were good sized pieces) which is also unique for AUCE sushi places that I've been at. I didn't try the calamari based on a bad review I saw, but to be honest, there are very few places I've ever been at that have really good calamari, so I rarely order it unless someone I know raves about it. Other appetizers we had were edamame, seaweed salad (very good) and I also had the udon soup appetizer which is in a small bowl (not as small as miso) so it wasn't too filling. Needed to save room for that nigiri, sashimi and maki! One other thing. My daughter isn't very "adventurous" with her sushi tastes and doesn't like avocado. We were at a different AYCE place in Schaumburg and they charged me extra for removing avocado from the maki on the fixed selection list (I think 50 cents or a dollar per roll)! Crazy, right? It wasn't like the suhsi was pre-made at this other place. She likes cucumber also and the maki she wanted didn't have that and we were told to just write "plus cucumber" on the ordering list, so they were also accommodating for that little change without batting and eye or any extra charges. My 4 stars are based on the fact that is an AUCE place, service and quality based on the price. We will be going back there for sure! read more

This location has changed over a few times before Sakura. When we first tried Sakura, the service and food quality was decent. Over time, they've changed management, revolving employees, which results in constant training and slower service. There's never a host in the front so we had to wait for one to seat us. We got seated toward the back of the restaurant near the trash cart. Flies started coming around our table so we asked to be moved, not safe and annoying. We usually order the "All You Can Eat" and it has just gone down all together. First of all, the system consists of a piece of paper where you mark what you want down, the server takes it, and they serve it as it gets cooked, or in this case, as they remember it. The wait is definitely way too long and this is the second time this has happened while dining here. We wait and have to wonder if we're even getting our order or not. During our second round order, we only received one item out of 5. One of the serves asked if we were ready for the check and we told her we haven't even received the rest of our food yet. These are appetizer portions so it shouldn't take too much effort or time to cook and serve it, especially when it's not very busy. After not receiving the rest of our order, we asked the many servers we had if they can check on our order. There's also a big language barrier so they couldn't understand what we were asking. The server insisted that we didn't order a second time and the manager came over and brought the both order sheets. And she was also told by the manager to wait and listen while she talked to us. After all of their deliberating, we decided to leave. The manager was kind and apologetic. One of the other managers in the kitchen adjusted our bill, and although we appreciate it, they have a lot of work and training to do. We probably won't be back for a long time. What they need to really do is: 1. Have a good manager to train employees on customer service and promote consistency. 2. Eliminate the paper and just use an electronic system, mark it off as served, which will resolve this problem of wondering what was brought out. 3. The other thing they need to do is have one server per table, not 5, this will eliminate any confusion. Also equally important is that servers should never touch your cup or glass when refilling your drink, which they were doing, not sanitary. As for the food, like I said, decent, nothing spectacular. The gyoza came out cold, the sushi has way too much sugar, and I've said that before, doesn't make it appetizing or fresh. The kalbi is good but they force you to order a roll if you want it, which doesn't make sense since it's all a part of the all you can eat menu. The udon is tasty and rest of the food is fine. Customer service will always supersede food for me any time. And this is what has happened to the previous restaurants that were here prior. If you don't have outstanding customer service, you'll lose your customers. There are plenty of other Japanese restaurants in the area that people will go to for service and food. For example, Kitakata and Torizen both have great customer service from the time you walk in to the time you leave. Hopefully, it'll get better for them. read more

It was our first and last visit. We tried the all you can eat sushi dinner. We were sat by a host/waiter who walked off after seating us, not asking if we wanted any drinks or explaining the menu or anything. He brought us lemon water and then stood two tables away while we picked our order from the all you can eat sheet. He came over and collected the sheet. About 30 seconds later a female waitress came and asked for our order.... Sushi arrived and the cuts were inconsistent. Some being very large and others small, though they didn't fall apart like I've had at some other places. We only liked the Godzilla roll and miso soup. We finished our second order and they brought the check almost immediately after clearing the plates. There was still sashimi left we hadn't received and the bill was already on the table. They realized this and asked if we still wanted it after we paid, and we told them to forget it. Stopped to use the men's restroom before leaving and it was dirty. I'm updating my review based on two more visits to this establishment. Considering how much I really enjoyed it the first time, I was sadly left a little disappointed each subsequent visit thereafter. I enjoyed the first visit so much I took my parents there and for the most part we enjoyed it. What I think needs to be clarified though for new diners is the fact that in order to order the 3 pieces of sashimi you MUST order a roll as well. (Rolls with all the rice will fill you up more.) I understand their business practice as eating JUST the sashimi which some patrons could probably scarf down would just not be good business financial sense. Having said that though it needs to be more CLEARLY stated and not as a tiny footnote at the bottom of that section. (Some of us have to wear reading glasses now. ) Outside of the very sad service that night by a new girl who had to ask about everything it was still ok. My dad said it was worth the money and he actually came back since then (which was only a month ago) with quite a number of friends. The reason I'm writing however is for last night's visit with my whole family. 5 adults and 2 children. We had service from one guy who I swear did not want to be there. That aside we were ok until we got the bill. Now, its not good business practice to have contradictions on what you tell your staff and what you have reflected on your website and what you tell guests. My brother and his wife were told months back that kids 9 and under were half price. Honestly my nieces both had miso soup and some rice so they made money there. But they actually charged us FULL PRICE for her. And she's 9. Hey, its ok if you decided 9 year olds eat too much sushi but then make your business practices CONSISTENT! I tried this all you can eat Sushi "Japanese" restaurant on lunch time of Saturday. AYCE lunch cost you $15/person. I had not had a luck to find a Good AYCE until this one. I am Japanese and very picky for Sushi. And I did not expect much ... You can get miso soup, salad, shumai, tempra ,gyoza, bulkogi,, some other appetizers in the deal. All of those items were freshly cooked by order, and good as you eat as regular menus at Japanese restaurants elsewhere. Sushi was fresh, cut in thick enough to feel "neta" not like a supermarket quality. I liked the smaller "Shari" like real Japanese Sushi. I will come again this restaurant at dinner time. This is a newer sushi place, Manami sushi used to be here, which is the reason I came to this location. Me not being a picky person was more then happy to give the new place a shot and they didn't disappoint. Lunch wasn't busy when I went in around 3:30pm. I was seated & greeted proply but wasn't rushed. They have an all you can eat lunch special for $15.00 which is amazing. Food was fast, both ice cold and hot when it needed to be. I should have listened to my wife (as usual) in ordering a roll less as I had a hard time eating and finishing which they charge for. I usually love spicy tuna, spicy salmon and spider but they were all off. Their spicy sauce was so different from other restaurants where it was mostly Sriracha which that spice piercing through the not fresh fish kept making me gag. What a hidden gem! Located in an unassuming strip mall in the suburbs, the restaurant provides good sushi at a reasonable price. The restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating and good music to put you in Zen mode while you enjoy your meal. The sushi is also an evwn ratio of sushi with rice which is a pleasant surprise. I had a horrible experience visiting Sakura in Schaumburg. I used to bathroom and washed my hands before my meal and noticed a strong smelling bleach scent in bathroom. When I got back to my seat I noticed my hands burning and itching. I looked down and my clothes (shirt and shorts) were covered in bleach stains! They put straight bleach in the soap dispenser. My hands were burning and my clothes ruined. The staff didn't seem to think it was a big deal and didn't even bother to do anything about replacing my clothes, gift cards, or anything. They offered a small discount only. The service was slow our whole dinner. The servers were rude and forgot majority of the food. I will never come here again! We come here very offen to have dinner. This happened today, such a bad experience. We did the all you can eat for dinner and found a piece of plastic in our egg sushi. Also when we ordered the red snapper as well it smelled really bad and it there were frozen parts in the sashimi. We told the server about it and she said that she would tell the manger about it. We acknowledged that the owner of the restaurant was in when we were having dinner. We thought that the owner would come to our table and apologize but nothing happened. Also we saw the server talk to someone in the sushi bar (I believe its the manager) and we waited but nothing. We watched the manager and the other sushi cook if they would ever show up to our table to apologize but they haven't. At the end we went to the cashier to talk to the owner. When I started to talk about what happened in our plate one of the cooks was in panic. This means thay he knew that we had plastic in our dish but he/they did not do anything. The owner apologized for the situation, but we did not need the apologize from her but from both of the cooks who were working and not even looking at us. I didn't even ask her to cut our bill in half or anything but an apology was good enough for us as a regular customer. At the end the owner gave us a coupon looking voucher so the next time when we come in for dining we could use it. But WE ARE NOT PLANNING TO COME BACK AND NOT USE THE VOUCHER DUE TO POOR SERVICE AND SOME BAD QUALITY OF FISH. For other customers, please check the fish when you eat at this place.
