AYCE Sushi! YAAAAAAS! $15 at lunch time which is fabulous. So yea, the price is good. But the sushi quality is pretty subpar. I feel bad because everyone working at Sakura was super friendly & attentive. But the issue here is the food. Gyoza? Good! Probably the best thing they serve with a good crisp to it. But the nigiri? Oh, no, no, no. It was not fresh at all. Coloring was off which signaled a less than stellar freshness level. And it was not cut well, either....definitely not by a professional sushi chef. It was so sad and disappointing. I ordered a few pieces of nigiri and really struggled to eat them because at an AYCE place, you have to finish everything in order to not be charged extra. Maki? Alright. I ordered the sweet potato roll and it lacked flavor compared to others I've had plus was just so chocked full of rice. It was one of the least favorite sweet potato makis I've had. Chicken teriyaki? Nu uh. Took ages to prepare and then the flavoring was super wack. None of us enjoyed this dish at all. Walked out paying $20 for below average food. I wanted to love this place and was so incredibly disappointed. I won't be back unfortunately. Found this AYCE sushi place a few years ago and it has been my go-to since then! Atmosphere: The dining area is spacious with low lighting that gives diners a sense of privacy. Service: Service is poor. 50% of the times I've been, one sheet of AYCE orders would be forgotten. The first two times it happened, I assumed I must have forgotten what I had ordered. However, after the third time, I knew an entire plate had been forgotten. When this happens, I subtly ask when my previous order will be done as I'm sure it just gets lost in the shuffle. Food: My go-to orders for maximum sashimi: Appetizers: miso soup; standard from the bag paste with tofu and seaweed, crab rangoon; sweet and crunchy with more cream cheese than crab, and dumplings; lightly meaty and crunchy. Sashimi: salmon, eel, and sweet egg; fresh enough with good sized slices. Maki: Godzilla, Dragon, and Rainbow; good rice to filling ratio with appropriate toppings. Overall: The dining area is clean and welcoming and their appetizer options are plentiful. I came here for my 2nd time. My first review is from a couple years back. I recall that it was ok, but, not great. But, my fiance wanted some sushi and brought this place up. So, we tried it. The maki was ok. Pretty standard. The nigiri was fine, but like I remember from my first visit, the fish was a bit weird looking. I eat sushi very often (usually nigiri). This fish just looks different and has some weird coloration on the salmon. That isn't the reason for one star though. The reason is the calamari tempura I got was the worst, and I seriously mean the worst, I have ever been served! It was 100% inedible. Could not bite it. It was hard like a bouncy ball rubber. Could barely rip it apart with my hands. I have had some calamari in the past that wasn't cooked perfectly, but, could at least still be eaten. I couldn't eat any of this. I started with a leg piece. Like biting into a car tire. I then tried a few body pieces. Same thing, couldn't even bite them in two. I resorted to trying to rip one apart with my hands. I was able to split the rings; with a lot of force. I got some weird looks from the sushi chef (we sat in the bar area and I was not hiding the fact that these were full on rubber). Side note, the Mai Tai was one of the best I've had locally. But sorry, still one star because my meal was ruined (all I ordered was 2 pieces of nigiri and the calamari). Tried out Sakura sushi with a friend and was a little disappointed. The fish quality is okay, and just overall the sushi and experience was okay. We had all you can eat lunch and they forgot to bring three of our orders and we had to remind them. It wasn't busy and our order was literally written down on paper so there was no excuse for it. The preparation of the sushi was not very fine. They left skin on the salmon sushi. They were out of sake when at the time we ate there.

For Sushi, this place has gotta be top 3 in the area for sure. They give great amounts per order and have a nice amount of wasabi if you like some spice. I recently got the Godzilla roll and I will never not order it. Sooooo good. Now I do want to offer some feedback, not a fan of the crab rangoon. I don't think they are bad at all just not great. Let me preface by stating that this review is based on a recent Saturday night GrubHub order. I wouldn't recommend the Ocean Salad: the sauce is good, but way too high onion-to-fish ratio. Also, quite a bit of gristle in the pieces they use. Sashimi Deluxe is pretty decent for the price. I asked for a couple of substitutions, and was happy with what they delivered. If you want a place for AYCE sushi and sushi-adjacent foods this is the place. Lunch and dinner are priced differently and the offerings change slightly. The quality of food is average. My parents love this place because it is AYCE and the speed of service is such that the food comes out fast enough so that you can actually overeat in an effort to get your money's worth of raw fish. At some AYCE establishments your food comes out so slowly that even if you wanted to eat one more spider roll you would have to wait so long that your brain would catch up with your stomach and tell you how much you would regret it. Sakura has a wonderful "All you can eat" menu priced differently for lunch or dinner. The menu includes soup, appetizers and sushi favorites. The sushi chefs here are pretty fast and skilled and the rolls with tempura shrimp or unagi and unagi sauce are my favorites. The wait for a table or cooked items can be a little longer on a busy weekend night. I also really like the udon soup with shrimp tempura. It is a pretty filling portion and served very hot. A great soup on a cold night. Prices aren't too bad and comparable to other sushi places nearby on Golf or Roselle roads where you may pay similar prices but not get as much food. Even during busy times at the lunch rush, the noise level isn't bad so you can have a nice conversation or meeting here over your meal. Friendly servers too. read more

My brother and I ordered DoorDash from this* place since he raved about it his first time. We both got one roll of the crispy California roll and it was so soggy. There was nothing crispy about it, the rice tasted mushy, and it kinda felt like gum the way it was putty-like. The delivery was not that long, so I do think it's a freshness issue, but a consistency one. Even if they had been sitting out long, sushi should never be mushy like that. read more

If I could , I'd give it no stars . This was going to be my first time there along with three other friends . First impression walking in the door was it wasn't very clean looking so I was worried right off the bat . They seated the three of us and was looking at the menu while we waited for our 4th. We had two different menus plus one paper menu for the AYCE . There are two different option for that also. One was the cheaper choice and the more expensive one , you could get more food options . Problem was , and we talked to the waiter and manager/owner , if one person wants the premium choice , the whole table needs to ?!? If my friend and I didn't like the added food options it doesn't matter we still need to get the premium bc our friend did. They said they do this to prevent sharing ?!? Ummm we don't eat that food so exactly why would I pay more for something I don't like . There was also no description of the rolls on the sheet so you had to look at the roll then look at menu #1 to see a dirty old picture and short description of what's in the roll. We also had to put all four of us on the same AYCE menu ... i was amazed at the hoops we would have to jump through just to order ?!? I can count on a half of one hand how many times I have walked out of a restaurant, yesterday one more was added to that number . We waited for our friend to get there and we walked out . Sorry that's ridiculous, the owner made it sound like they were doing us a favor not us as the customer should be treated better . Very rude ! The service in this restaurant is absolutely abhorrent. Its mostly teenagers just slacking off with airpods in. Our waitress walked by our table multiple times and didn't take our plates that we were obviously finished with, stacked and everything. The rice for the sushi was overcooked and extremely mushy. The nori was also prepared in a way i havent seen before but because of the way it was prepared i ended up choking on the sushi. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences i think ive ever had. It really bothered me how unprofessional the employees were. If you're going to eat here, do NOT have high expectations for the food and absolutely do not get the all you can eat option. Wanted to love it but didn't. Please kindly improve and genuinely so. Dined in recently at this restaurant for the "first time" and had several menu items with a friend. The Philadelphia Roll was good. The tempura veggies were super oily & without much flavor....the tempura sweet potatoes were hard and devoid of flavor. You are given not more than a quarter sized accompaniment of ginger, wasabi or spicy mayo. Asking for more was treated like an inconvenience. I expressed this to our server, a young woman who appeared unconcerned and offered no apology and did not offer to have the cooks or chef re-make the item. This would have been much appreciated in the interest of kindness, courtesy and thoughtful consideration with regard to providing stellar customer service (if they cared but it appeared they did not, which is quite sad and unfortunate). I believe in offering stellar customer service and have done so throughout my professional capacity in business, consistently ....because it makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE. Plus, how you treat people in general, your customers in specific, greatly impacts the reputation and success of your business. Additionally, those who you hire to work at your establishment continuously represent you & your core values & standards as a business owner. Absolutely abysmal. My usual sushi place wasn't open so me and my mom decided to try this place. Biggest restaurant-based mistake of my life, this place was all around terrible. I'll start with my food; I got the Sushi Regular which was hands down the worst sushi I've ever had. The cuts of fish on the nigiri were incredibly cheap and thin, barely covering the rice. Speaking of said rice, it was warm and loose with a weird taste. I gave up picking them up with the chopsticks and had to use my fingers so it would stay together. When I started eating the second tuna nigiri I suddenly felt a weird, dry sensation and pulled it out of my mouth. When I looked at it I was disgusted to see that half of it was completely dried out. I just left it on the plate with the terrible quality ginger and wasabi. I substituted the California Roll for a Tuna Roll that was wrapped in the toughest seaweed I've ever eaten. Same bad quality fish wrapped inside. My mom got the Tempura Udon which was also terrible. She said the noodles were like packaged noodles and the tempura was visibly burned on top of being flavorless. She said the sauce for it tasted like vinegar and maybe a little sugar. She also said that the green bean was extremely bitter. The ambiance was nonexistent, a weird mix of furniture (chairs with bulls on them??) and the table was sticky. Everything was covered in hand-written signs chastising you. The service was also bad. Our waitress was inattentive, we only received one full menu which we had to pass back and forth. She didn't take them away after taking our order either, they sat there throughout the whole meal. Our food arrived incredibly staggered, I could have nearly finished my meal by the time my mom's showed up. At the end a different lady asked us if we wanted separate checks or not and we we told her only one check, please. She brought us two, separate checks. They took forever with the payment despite the restaurant being nearly empty. When they brought our receipt they left a couple two dollar vouchers. We left them on the table because why god would we let them take our money again. Normally we are very generous tippers but with this place we wouldn't have left anything. Not that we had a choice because there is a 18% mandatory gratuity which clearly exists because the food and service is so terrible that nobody sane would ever leave a tip. The worst part? I still have a nasty taste in my mouth that I can't get out. Neither brushing my teeth nor eating other strong flavors has gotten rid of it. Please god leave my mouth, demon. read more

At Sakura, the maki are tightly rolled and the fish are well prepared. You wouldn't even notice that you're eating at a sushi buffet. Normally, the quality isn't the best at a sushi buffet but here at Sakura, everything is made to order and the food is definitely the focus. It's not often that you see sashimi and LA style kalbi on a buffet menu. Check out their spicy fish salad which is a Korean version of poke which uses a gochujang sauce. The trade-off is that the food might take a bit longer and the service can be frustrating at times. Even if you are not a fan of buffets or you don't eat six rolls like I do, try them for your next carry out order. read more

It was super hard to finish my food. As I was turned off by the roach on the floor by an edamame my toddler dropped out of her mouth onto the floor. Hoping this was already on the floor and not in her mouth. I was super disgusted and my toddler oddly wouldn't eat anymore food. We won't be coming back to this place. Looks clean, but it's actually dirty. With roaches. I can't even comment on any of the food being"okay" or "good" because I can't get the notion of a roach being in a food establishment. Last time I was here was 2018. I will learn to check YELP every time now! I considered it a world class place & so I took a friend here Satrday night for his birthday. From the moment we walked in we were greeted coldly. I found the menu confusing but I told my friend "let it roll!" it's a special occasion. Our first round of rolls came out pretty fast but no soy sauce. Could not get anybodys attention. Finally we got an empty bottle with about 1 Tbl spoon.. I held it up to the light & laughed, "Is this for real"? The Dragon Roll looked pretty much like the spicy tuna roll looked pretty much like the cucumber roll etc etc....all very small, tasty but non-descript. I thot at least the dragon roll would have some spark....no effort to garnish no WOW factor at all....plain jane all the way. My friend kept having to ask me which roll was which? I did not know either. I noticed all employees were scowling-in general-and at us. Overall we had fun, and I know what it is to be overwhelmed -and-stuck at work on a Saturday night so I left a decent $15 tip. When I get home I see they GAVE THEMSELVES A $10 tip additional. WHY? There were only two of us? Did you not have faith? (We skipped round three if it matters.) I'm sorry but this LACKLUSTER PERFORMANCE does not merit a $25 tip!!! read more

A frustrating experience. They have great food with a nice all you can eat menu. The service is terrible though, like most reviewers have mentioned. Went twice over the course of two weeks. Felt like the waiters forgot about us, didn't refill water, and at one point left a tray full of food at the table and asked one of our friends to distribute the food. Pros: service was great, and it was clean. Cons: the rice was oddly sweet for all the rolls, even the Mexican roll. When I complained they said it was the sauce. The salmon avocado didn't have a sauce and it was still too sweet. Really gross. Food was not fresh. All fish arrived discolored. The seaweed salad was aight. The edamame was defrosted. The amount of sushi was a joke. I've attached a picture. Good luck finding the fish. I don't understand why they were so many restrictions.
