This was our first time visiting this place. We're quite familiar with the Brazilian churrascaria-type restaurants and this one works exactly the same way. What differentiates this place is there 'salad bar' offerings. Along with the typical salad stuff, they have a variety of charcuterie meats and cheeses, fruits and vegetables and sushi. There's an actual bar area of an array of sushi rolls and sashimi. They also have some more cooked items that are also part of their salad bar (rice, beans, casseroles, cooked salmon items, lobster bisque). I could eat just from the salad bar and be very happy and full. As part of Houston Restaurant Weeks, the meat offerings are slightly less than the full range. When you're ready for the meats, flip your coaster to green and the servers will keep coming to your table to load you up on fresh cuts of beef, chicken and pork. As with all Brazilian churrascarias, the chimichurri adds and enhances the meats. The servers will also bring you unlimited fries, mashed potatoes, bananas and the magical cheesy bread (pao de queijo). It's a great deal during HRW, but it looks like their regular prices aren't that bad compared to the other churrascarias in the city. read more

Visited Sal y Brasa in The Woodlands for brunch with my cousin and really enjoyed it. The restaurant has a warm, intimate atmosphere that makes it a great spot for a date night or special occasion. The buffet offered a great selection with a cold bar, hot bar, sushi, and a steady flow of meats. The Brazilian lemonade was refreshing, and we finished with a tres leches cake to share. I had seen they were participating in Houston Restaurant Weeks, but we weren't offered that pricing. I didn't ask about it, and it didn't take away from the experience. Overall, it's a great Brazilian steakhouse if you're in The Woodlands, and I'd definitely come back. read more

It was about time we tried a churrasqueria in the woodlands. I have never been to this particular chain, and being the adventurous Elite I thought we should give it a try. For the most part, the buffet is nothing really different than other churrasquerias in Houston. But the bacon on the buffet is bruleed so it's sweet. I guess that's different from what I remember. The asparagus is also huge just like the other churrasquerias in Houston however. Oh they do serve sushi. Note the salmon at the sushi place section is smoked salmon and not sashimi. No wasabi or soy sauce too from what I saw. Their cheesy bread is homemade. Pretty good. But I like Fogo better. I knew it was a trap as the basket kept magically filling up each time we got up. They also got mashed potatoes and fried bananas by request. As for the meats, Picanha is usually my go to dish. They also got a garlic version as well. But at this place my favorite was the wagyu beef, baby beef and surprisingly the beef ribs. In fact the table next to us kept asking for more. It's not like Fogo's beef ribs which are meh. These ones are tender. Was not a big fan of the lamb t-bone here which requires special order as they won't otherwise bring it around. Very gamey taste too. The lamb sirloin was gamey too. And moreover it was also tough (as was the Sirloin wrapped in bacon). The chicken legs that they brought around had a sauce on them. I asked what it was and the gaucho said ketchup! Lmfao. Pass. At least he was honest! The pork ribs that came around also had a sauce on it. I didn't care for the flavor. Maybe ketchup too. lol The quiejo asado with honey was a new dish I hadn't see before. It was ok. Just fried cheese. Kids discount cuts off at 11 years old which is a year younger that Fogo. Also the discount is only $10 off the lunch price which is less than Fogo at a similar age bracket (Fogo gives half price off). My kid don't eat much. In fact she spent the last half of the meal in the bathroom. I guess making room for desert. Our waitress was very nice. But like almost every restaurant I've been to they didn't acknowledge the special occasion I noted on the reservation form on open table. In my old age "full" feels a whole lot different than full when I was younger. 10 years ago I could go into overdrive to get my moneys worth. But now full even with meat and no carbs just feels .... vomitous. This body is weak. I am but a shell of the man I once was. Sigh. read more

Went to Sal e Brasa Grill and was pleasantly surprised! The AYCE + buffet naturally creates a little chaos and some wait time, but overall I was impressed with the quality of the food. Definitely pace yourself on the buffet because the meat service is nonstop. They offer a great variety including different cuts of beef, chicken, sausage, shrimp, and grilled cheese. The desserts were good as well. I do wish the staff had been a bit more attentive. The complimentary sides they drop off (like plantains and potatoes) weren't very consistent, we never received the potatoes. That said, the overall experience was still enjoyable, and I'm looking forward to coming back. read more

I visited this restaurant, which is in the former Killens Steakhouse spot, on a weeknight. The interior is dimly lit and pretty classy. I visited the restrooms right away and found them to be a little outdated with large TV screens above the urinals but they were not working. Dinner pricing is only $39.99 weeknights which is less than competitors in the Houston area. My group sat in one or the private rooms off to the side of the buffet area. Unfortunately, there was some sort of a birthday party in the room next to us and they were very loud while our speaker was very quiet. It made it very awkward when half the time we could hear the ongoings of the adjacent room better than our own speaker since we were sitting near a shared wall. As far as the food, the salad bar / buffet was pretty decent, it has your usual selection of salad items, sushi, sliced deli meats, cooked items some of which are Brazilian, hot dishes, and a lobster bisque. Nothing was fantastic on the salad bar for me. I tried to keep items on my plate to a minimum. The servers also bring a plate of mashed potatoes, a basket of fries, and a cup of the Brazilian cheese bread to your table. Next came the gauchos who came in and out of the room for the next 30 mins or so. I avoided all the non-beef items which are big fillers and stuck to just the beef. I also avoided anything with bacon. There were several beef cuts thankfully. Ribeye, top and bottom sirloin, picanha, wagyu, etc. The best items for me were the wagyu, followed by the ribeye....although some parts of the ribeye were extremely heavy on the salt. The wagyu seemed to be seasoned pretty well by comparison. I will note that all the employees were friendly and helpful. One problem occurred where our table was missed when it came to ordering beverages, so we were stuck with water for the first hour when our speaker was presenting and the servers were not allowed to enter the room. How that happened is beyond me because we were right in front near the door and one of the first tables to be seated as well. Otherwise, my ground had a decent experience and thought the pricing was reasonable for what you get, especially the weeknight pricing. On weekends, it does go up slightly. read more

Feeling quite deceived (and very disappointed) over the marketing campaign launched for the Grand Opening and how it was handled. We had been super excited for this concept (for weeks!) and kept a close eye on their online presence, social media posts, and we even signed up for the "VIP" emails.... When their Facebook page announced they would officially open their doors on Saturday the 25th at 4pm, we planned to be there ready! To add to this excitement, they advertised $1 meals for the first 50 guests in the door... Woohoo! I made a reservation for 4pm (the earliest time slot available) on OpenTable the night before. On Saturday, April 25th, we arrived around 3:30pm to see a "Black Friday" sort of line out the door and around the building. Turns out that well before the expected opening time, they had already seated the first 50 people. After interviewing the crowd, it was revealed that the restaurant had staged a lottery a few hours prior and handed out "Golden Tickets" to a lucky few. I guess you needed access to secret intel to have known this. Regardless, we were still eager to dine on opening day and stuck around for a bit... Despite expecting to pay full price, we were still hoping to keep our dinner plan. We had a reservation, after all. After waiting in line for half an hour more, we finally made it inside the doors! I approached the hostess to check in for our reserved table, however & much to my disdain she explained that "it did not matter whether you had a reservation." Apparently, everyone was being treated as a walk-in, first come first serve.... At this point, the restaurant was overwhelmed with waves of people waiting, that the wait would continue for over an hour or more. Thanks to this chaos, our Saturday schedule was ruined and dinner was a total flop. This Grand Opening was an absolute circus. Planning ahead meant absolutely nothing, and it was all about luck of the draw and insider knowledge. Jokes on me. This experience definitely left a bad first impression. Really makes me mistrust their advertising and poor way of handling their reservation system... Customer service is a huge reflection of an establishment, and this left a sour taste. read more

Bob's Steakhouse turned into Killen's Steakhouse, now Sal e Brasa Brazilian a la Fogo de Chao. Had high hopes for this place and I had seen exciting reviews. Gave it 3 stars for the Salad Bar. The meat selection seemed very limited in what little was offered and the portions offered were very small. Of course they'll give you more. I was not impressed at all with the overall quality and taste of what little was offered. The price is lower than the competition in the same category, but I'd choose to pay more for better quality and more meat options........FYI, I'm a gaucho fan, but Fogo has declined in quality and it ain't all that anymore. read more

Rotating meat. Expansive buffet. Great service. All add up to a place you want to visit. Our first server also manned the bar and took particular care with our cocktails. The Brazilian caiparinha (spelling is questionable) was delicious. The buffet can easily dominate and be your entire meal so plan accordingly as the unending meats deserve a big portion of your appetite. They were all tasty and well executed. This is a warm and receiving dining room with an upbeat staff. It's bustling but you can still hold a reasonable conversation. Totally enjoyed the meal. read more

Oh my gosh! We took our grandson here for his birthday because it was open for lunch on a Saturday!!! It was excellent- excellent- excellent!! It is beautiful... old world dark woods and bling all over. The food is amazing.. I know you don't go to a Brazilian steak house for the salad bar, but it had everything!! Including sushi!! Brazilian Steak houses are not all created equal. Dinning with Kent brought this gem to my attention. I must say I was well pleased. I have always enjoyed the salad bar selections at most places but these folks went overboard and if you can't find what you like on their salad bar you went to the wrong place. What a selection. I was WELL pleased with all the options as well as the cuts of meat. And the dinner price $40 per person is unheard of. Most steak houses ramp up $55-$65 for dinner. Not here. Great Service Great Food. Did not sample the wine selection however the Smoked Old Fashion was the desert to top off a fantastic dinner. I will be visiting again soon!! Avoid at All Costs - Rude Owner, Tough Meat, and Zero Hospitality If you're looking for a pleasant dining experience, do yourself a favor and stay far away from Sal E Brasa in the Woodlands TX. What started as a hopeful visit to enjoy a Brazilian meal quickly spiraled into one of the most bizarre, uncomfortable restaurant experiences I've ever had--and all thanks to the owner, Mr. Vunderlay. Apparently, not being able to chew through a piece of rubbery, overcooked meat is a crime at this place. I politely declined to eat one particularly tough cut, and that's when Mr. Vunderlay--yes, the owner--got visibly bent out of shape. He approached the table in a huff, clearly offended that I dared to have a jaw that doesn't function like an industrial meat grinder. No apology, just attitude and confrontational about how they only use PRIME cuts and making assumptions he should not be making. Newsflash: If you're going to serve meat that could double as boot leather, at least have the humility to accept feedback without throwing a tantrum. Hospitality is not optional in the restaurant business--it's the baseline. Unfortunately, this place fails spectacularly in both food quality and basic decency. I came to enjoy a meal, not to be guilt-tripped and condescended to for having taste buds and standards. If Mr. Vunderlay wants to run a dictatorship instead of a restaurant, he's free to do that--just don't expect customers to come back. My wife and I ate here tonight courtesy of a gift card from my little brother. We arrived at our 6:30 reservation time and were greeted and shown to our table promptly. The place looked very clean and well kept and the staff was extremely courteous, from management to servers everyone was friendly and we were asked multiple times throughout our meal if there was anything else we needed or that they could do for us. I've been to Brazilian steakhouses all over the world and I've never felt unsafe until this one. The MANAGER was waving a knife around and. table are too close.
