    The dishes

It was about time we tried a churrasqueria in the woodlands. I have never been to this particular chain, and being the adventurous Elite I thought we should give it a try. For the most part, the buffet is nothing really different than other churrasquerias in Houston. But the bacon on the buffet is bruleed so it's sweet. I guess that's different from what I remember. The asparagus is also huge just like the other churrasquerias in Houston however. Oh they do serve sushi. Note the salmon at the sushi place section is smoked salmon and not sashimi. No wasabi or soy sauce too from what I saw. Their cheesy bread is homemade. Pretty good. But I like Fogo better. I knew it was a trap as the basket kept magically filling up each time we got up. They also got mashed potatoes and fried bananas by request. As for the meats, Picanha is usually my go to dish. They also got a garlic version as well. But at this place my favorite was the wagyu beef, baby beef and surprisingly the beef ribs. In fact the table next to us kept asking for more. It's not like Fogo's beef ribs which are meh. These ones are tender. Was not a big fan of the lamb t-bone here which requires special order as they won't otherwise bring it around. Very gamey taste too. The lamb sirloin was gamey too. And moreover it was also tough (as was the Sirloin wrapped in bacon). The chicken legs that they brought around had a sauce on them. I asked what it was and the gaucho said ketchup! Lmfao. Pass. At least he was honest! The pork ribs that came around also had a sauce on it. I didn't care for the flavor. Maybe ketchup too. lol The quiejo asado with honey was a new dish I hadn't see before. It was ok. Just fried cheese. Kids discount cuts off at 11 years old which is a year younger that Fogo. Also the discount is only $10 off the lunch price which is less than Fogo at a similar age bracket (Fogo gives half price off). My kid don't eat much. In fact she spent the last half of the meal in the bathroom. I guess making room for desert. Our waitress was very nice. But like almost every restaurant I've been to they didn't acknowledge the special occasion I noted on the reservation form on open table. In my old age "full" feels a whole lot different than full when I was younger. 10 years ago I could go into overdrive to get my moneys worth. But now full even with meat and no carbs just feels .... vomitous. This body is weak. I am but a shell of the man I once was. Sigh.

The ambiance is delightful, you feel you are in a very up scale restaurant, but the mood is casual and the suggestion for attire is dressy casual. The food Has never disappointed me and my family and friends. The salad bar is always fresh with an abundance of choices including sushi. The pan de queso (cheese bread) is a must have. The staff is amazing everyone is so helpful and friendly. Everything considered, all in,its the best bang for the buck. Fixed price no surprises. Try it and see for yourself

Service is way better than Fogo de Chao, the buffet bar is delicious and has more variety. The meats keep coming constantly and prices are way more affordable. I like the ambiance and the wooden walls. They gave us a free dessert for my husband's birthday and let him choose from the standard dessert menu. In most places de bring you a standard piece of cake without asking you.

Announced their doors opening at 4pm, but had a secret lottery several hours before.... This promotion was a cruel joke,

Feeling quite deceived (and very disappointed) over the marketing campaign launched for the Grand Opening and how it was handled. We had been super excited for this concept (for weeks!) and kept a close eye on their online presence, social media posts, and we even signed up for the "VIP" emails.... When their Facebook page announced they would officially open their doors on Saturday the 25th at 4pm, we planned to be there ready! To add to this excitement, they advertised $1 meals for the first 50 guests in the door... Woohoo! I made a reservation for 4pm (the earliest time slot available) on OpenTable the night before. On Saturday, April 25th, we arrived around 3:30pm to see a "Black Friday" sort of line out the door and around the building. Turns out that well before the expected opening time, they had already seated the first 50 people. After interviewing the crowd, it was revealed that the restaurant had staged a lottery a few hours prior and handed out "Golden Tickets" to a lucky few. I guess you needed access to secret intel to have known this. Regardless, we were still eager to dine on opening day and stuck around for a bit... Despite expecting to pay full price, we were still hoping to keep our dinner plan. We had a reservation, after all. After waiting in line for half an hour more, we finally made it inside the doors! I approached the hostess to check in for our reserved table, however & much to my disdain she explained that "it did not matter whether you had a reservation." Apparently, everyone was being treated as a walk-in, first come first serve.... At this point, the restaurant was overwhelmed with waves of people waiting, that the wait would continue for over an hour or more. Thanks to this chaos, our Saturday schedule was ruined and dinner was a total flop. This Grand Opening was an absolute circus. Planning ahead meant absolutely nothing, and it was all about luck of the draw and insider knowledge. Jokes on me. This experience definitely left a bad first impression. Really makes me mistrust their advertising and poor way of handling their reservation system... Customer service is a huge reflection of an establishment, and this left a sour taste.

Rotating meat. Expansive buffet. Great service. All add up to a place you want to visit. Our first server also manned the bar and took particular care with our cocktails. The Brazilian caiparinha (spelling is questionable) was delicious. The buffet can easily dominate and be your entire meal so plan accordingly as the unending meats deserve a big portion of your appetite. They were all tasty and well executed. This is a warm and receiving dining room with an upbeat staff. It's bustling but you can still hold a reasonable conversation. Totally enjoyed the meal.

Cosmopolitans and Brazilian margaritas were perfect with the rodizio menu!

Easily our favorite date night dinner option! The salad and sushi bar are extensive and beautifully presented. The meats carved table-side are always exactly as we request and delicious. The staff is attentive and charming. Highly suggest the Carajillo cocktail created tableside! Excellent drink and fantastic presentation.

Meat was subpar. Meat was of low quality and full of fat and gristle. Would not recommend this pace for good meat.

In my heart, Fogo will always be my first love for the "gaucho experience". But this sadly wasn't…read morethe Fogo I remember. I remember when Fogo first came to Houston around the year 2000. It was the pioneer of modern churrascarias before all the imitators arrived. I used to frequent the old Westheimer location across from Walmart often, and back then it always felt like magic. Admittedly it has been years since I've visited any Fogo, and I'd never been to the Woodlands location before. Before arriving, I had talked it up to my kid telling her stories of days gone by. As we walked, I was hoping the nostalgia would hold ... whelp it didn't. The staff was friendly as it always has been. But after the initial greeting our waiter disappeared. Never saw him again. Our plates were never swapped out like they used to do. And in fact we just kept eating off our used salad‑bar plate. So much for fine dining. And No pão de queijo! I kept telling my kid about the legendary cheesy bread here. We didn't get any. Nada. And in fact we didn't get any of the sides. And I eventually had to ask for the complimentary mashed potatoes after being well into the meal because my kid kept asking when the mashed potatoes would arrive. The asparagus on the buffet honestly looked like green beans -- a far cry from the thick, vibrant stalks they used to serve. I remember they were like stalks of carrots back in the day. Some of the meats weren't even warm. And some of the cuts were tough. No premium meats ever made it to our table. The green/red steak medallions on each table to flip over indicating "more meat!" used to feel like part of the whole experience -- solid, good heft, almost ceremonial. Now it's just paper cutouts. Not just this location but the Westheimer one too in this regards. It felt like Fogo was basically admitting they're cutting corners on the tiny details that used to make the meal feel more premium. And honestly, those medallions discs mattered. They made the whole "more meat / no more meat" thing feel official instead of arts-and-crafts cut outs they have now. And the flies here. Ugh. So aggressive and persistent. I have no idea how they got inside the establishment. But they were annoying and relentless. At the end of the meal my kid looked at me and said, "Can we just go to LongHorn next time?" I really wanted to pass down the magic that I had remembered, but honestly I couldn't argue with her. "You bet," I told her. It kind of reminded me of seeing Depeche Mode as an adult -- the nostalgia was there, but the feeling just wasn't. Some experiences are better preserved as memories, rather than trying to be revived and relived. This unfortunately was one of them. Sigh.

DJ was spinning tunes inside but we opted for outdoor seating on their covered patio as it was a nice day. I gotta say I had some trepidation given our CM's earlier experiences here. But everything turned out just fine on our visit. First off I love that everything on the menu is under $20. That means we can order more. I was a bit worried that out steak and eggs would be tough because I ordered it medium rare and it came out more medium well. It's even cut already so they should've been able to tell how well done it was. But it was still tender which is actually all I really cared about. The Holy Smoked Benedict is not your traditional eggs Benedict. Instead of ham they have slices of pork belly. And it's served on a crispy biscuit (I could taste the crunch) with potatoes with a poached egg on top just like a regular Benedict. My only comment would be a little too many potatoes for my particular liking, but you can just brush them off. With the money we saved we got the beignets. They come in a sack of 5 and with a Meyer lemon curd on top side for dipping that has a dollop of melted marshmallow cream on top. They aren't traditional beignets but are really small biscuits. They tasted hot and fresh, and were nice and fluffy regardless, which again is all I really cared about. Cold water comes in an old whisky bottle and is left at your table so you can pour as much as you want when you want. I really wish more restaurants did this. The place is also now on the InKind app so make sure you sign in and pay with the app if you do that kind of stuff. InKind is free and has occasional offers that make dining even more affordable.
