I'm rating two stars because the salad was delicious and fit the needs of my doctor-mandated nutrition plan. On Saturday afternoon I ate the roasted vegetable salad. It was the only thing I'd eaten that day because I have been intermittently fasting for the past few months. Fast-forward to the evening, it feels like my stomach has lead bricks in it. I am walking to the beach with my husband to enjoy the beach, but as I took each step, my stomach was bloating and a sense of nausea built more and more. I had reached the point I could not walk for fear of throwing up in open public at Montrose. I walked tightly with my legs close together because in 10-seconds I was about to purge the demons, and they wanted out on both sides of the tunnel. I threw up for a good five minutes until my stomach was empty. That night I also experienced diarrhea 6 times in one hour. It was shocking. Since I do my work virtually, I never leave the house. Salad House was the only factor that had changed in the last 48 hours leading up to this point. read more

Soo good!! I got the roasted veggies salad and I was blown away. I used to order sweetgreens once a week because they have an outpost in my office. The last couple times Ive had them, they forgot something or barely had lettuce. Tonight I was craving a salad, and thought I should try something new. Brussel Sprouts, Sweet potatoes, root veggies, goat cheese, honey mustard dressings is my dream salad!! I wish I would of tried Salad House sooner. They make a very good salad. The bowls look small but when you start in on them they are good sized salads. I had the Chef Salad and was well pleased. Because of their size they do not have a lot of sitting area but the line of to go folks was always full and it seemed popular with those in line. If the food is good, folks will stand in a line. So I Should give them 1 star but I'm not mean, and I believe that maybe dining there is better than the experience I had thru delivery. Second time ordering here and it was a disaster. Ordered online requested the delivery to arrive at 1pm- and at 1:25pm I called and they said they never had my order. So then they called their delivery service and then the delivery service called me to verify my order and to send it and to charge me. UM okay, I agreed and told them thats fine. ( but no it's not). Clearly, you apologize and take care of the matter. Order got to me at 1:50ish The baked Potato wasn't cooked fully -- thumbs down Blackened Chicken Wrap-Very weird taste with the chicken-tasted old. Years ago this place was called Veg Out, and I had a super boring salad there. Now it's called Salad House and I still skip the salads. but their wraps are soooooooooooooooo yummy!! And huge, and a really good value. I usually get the spinach wrap. They have multiple choices of wraps. Then there are lots of filling choices. I usually get the chicken avocado with cilantro lime dressing. I try to make it last two meals. I've also tried the tuna which was very tasty as well. You also get chips with your wrap. There's a whole bunch of yummy dressing options. If I went out to lunch more often than once a month, I'd be here all the time. read more

I took to heart some of the earlier comments about the rubber chicken and so I sampled it first. Yup, it's processed and has no flavor. I would give this place 3.5 stars if I could. The portions are generous and the veggie toppings are really fresh. It's unlimited toppings for $9, except for the albacore tuna which I think is an extra $2. My salad was very very good. I stopped by after my long run on Saturday (yes, it wasn't too chilly) and it was a great way to complement my workout. Don't forget the roll you get as part of your meal. One thing that kinda bothers me about these salad places is that I generally don't put meats on my salads (no chicken, bacon, etc) to avoid the added salt and processed foods. Yet, I'm still paying the same price as someone who could load up on all the proteins (the meats, not the beans or eggs). Maybe I'm being picky, but it seems that I could pay a little less if I'm getting essentially a vegetarian salad with an egg. I will come back. read more

So many good things about The Salad House and soon good for you! First off, the restaurant is a super clean little space just a hair south of Belmont on Broadway. The menu is mostly salads (natch), but they have sandwiches as well. It is mostly a salad bar where you pick your base (greens) from the counter, then turn it over to have them toss in whatever you want for ingredients. Pick your dressing, then pay at the register. They also have preplanned selections like Cobb and Chef Salads and such, but those are made fresh right in front of you so you can customize those as well. Sandwiches are the usual suspects, but their pretty terrific, too. Really good ingredients, made fresh for you as well. I think the sandwiches all come with chips and a fountain soda for free if you eat there. Not a lot of tables, but most people just grab and go. Staff does not all speak great English, but if they don't understand someone else jumps in to help. They are all super sweet! read more

Whenever I need a veggie fix, I head to Salad House. I love that you can build your own salad from such a huge assortment of fresh options. Whenever I walk in, the ladies behind the counter are super nice. When I order in, delivery is usually pretty fast. I knocked one star off because the chicken is a bit too salty, and the freshness has taken a bit of a dive lately. I'm guessing the latter is because it's tougher to get fresh ingredients in late fall. Everything is still edible, if a bit less tasty. read more

From the creative dressings (my favorite is the avocado dill), to the unbelievable variety of fresh ingredients, this Lakeview gem has become my favorite healthy restaurant in the city. Pretty good spot for a quick and (relatively) healthy bite to eat. Store is clean, food looks fresh. Lots of choices for toppings. People there are super friendly, smiles all around. I like being able to create my own salad, being able to pick and choose what I want and have it made for you is fantastic. Prices for what you get seem fair. The toppings are so generous I have begun grabbing a head of lettuce at the market before I stop in and after a quick clean and chop I mix it with what I get from this spot and I have two good sized salads. Pretty tasty. One of these days I will get around to trying the sandwiches and baked potatoes they offer as well. read more

Great place to get a healthy meal on the cheap. You pick up a tray with the basic salad if your choice (romaine, spinach, greens, etc.) and hand it to the employee. They then add each and every topping of your choosing at no additional cost (yes, that includes shrimp!). He/she takes them and tosses them all together with your dressing choice mixed in or on the side, quick, healthy, and nutritious. The ingredients were all fresh and delicious. read more

I have been going to this place once I found it about a month ago but as of today I noticed they increased their prices from $9 to $11 for a make your own salad. They took down their signs last week and said it was because of painting but when they put their signs back up it was new menus with new prices. I pretty much come here every day for the buffalo wrap. It is pretty much the best wrap I have had in my entire life. Most of the staff is friendly though there is one older lady who's attitude seem really poor and I somewhat dread when she makes my food. But the rest of them are great. Personally I'm not too happy with this place. I ordered my first time ever from the Salad House about a week and half ago. The food was good, however the delivery was ridiculously slow (hour to an hour and half) and they had a $6 delivery charge. Considering the food isn't cooked and it's just a fresh salad or wrap you would expect it to be faster. Either way, my boyfriend and I decided to order again to keep dinner simple. We placed the order about 20 minutes ago. The woman on the phone took all of the information no problem. Roughly 10 minutes later we get notified that they don't deliver to us. Seems a tad odd since they just delivered to us a week and half ago. After we told the woman that she said fine and then a few minutes later she called us back saying no and went to give us a refund. What terrible service. I officially will no longer order from them or eat at their location until they provide a more consistent service. read more

This review is only regarding the service... I have to say that the service here is terrible. I waited over 5 minutes to be helped before I was able to order. Then after 10 minutes I finally received my wrap. For my wait, the owner then offered me a free bag of chips and when I said to her, "I get another one for free?" she said, "No! Never! You must pay!" (So basically she offered me a free bag of chips for my trouble then told me I had to pay? Ridiculous). So I paid and went to sit down to eat my food at a table and the owner said to me, "Since you're the only person in the restaurant don't sit there". If there was no one else in the whole place why wouldn't I be able to sit wherever I wanted? Overall, the service and staff are rude and disrespectful. Yelp says they open at 10am, their door says they open at 10am. Yet I arrive at 10:10am to a locked front door. The woman behind the counter continues to slowly load vegetables. She ignores me the entire time. It is a cold, cold Chicago morning, I should add. I go on waiting for 20 more minutes until a guy, presumably the manager, arrives next to me and asks if I'm standing there to wait for the bus. When I say I'm waiting to enter the freaking store, he sheepishly unlocks the door and says he'll talk to the woman, which he doesn't. When the woman begins preparing my salad, there is no apology to be heard. HORRIBLE, DISCOURTEOUS service. And make sure you arrive late enough to not get screwed by their own tardiness. Update: The extra 50 cents will only get you 3 pieces of avocado from the woman with the short hair. Even if you're the only one on line and there's only one other person eating in the place. I got the Santa Fe salad and it was absolutely delicious. It was a very good portion size and everything was fresh.

I got suckered into going here because some friends were going, and I have to say it, Salad House is not the best idea, and it's also not very well executed. I can't really critique any menu items, as I chose to have a salad and I was expected to combine all the ingredients I wanted to. The singular items however, are great in variety, but sometimes poor in quality. Some produce looked like it had been sitting around awhile, some looked like it had been cut way too largely. And frankly, for being such a health-forward type establishment, I was very surprised to see a low number of healthy vegetarian protein options being offered. No seitan offered, but not even any quinoa either. They offered tofu, which as you may know, is pretty bland. The tofu was not advertised as being marinated or flavored in any way, and was cut in large chunks which didn't look very appetizing. I was excited to see that "avocado dill" was one of the offered dressing. It sounded delicious, but totally under-delivered. I didn't taste any avocado, nor did I taste any dill in my salad. On a more positive note, the value is pretty good. For $8.75 you can get a pretty large salad with all the ingredients you want (within a selection, and as served to you), and you can even get a side of bread with it.
