regular salad

A Hair Inside My Salad I'm very disappointed, i really would recommend this place if they were cleaner and if those girls who are working there were a little nicer with their customers, specially regular customers such as me and my friends !If I could I wouldn't even give this plant even one star! Salata was our favorite place but not anymore! 1st because of these girls Specially Kassandra that acts super rude! And keeps Empty the half of my order that I pay for and argues over it with me ! I told her I'm paying for that please fill it up n she is says : this is what it is!!! And second it's because the last time I found this Hair in my salad ! A long dark hair ! I'm not going there anymore ! I hope the owner care a little more! I tried to call the manager so I wouldn't write a review but apparently the number that Kassandra gave me was a wrong number!!!

Build your own salad/wrap shop. Since this was a Mealpal stop, I had a prix fixe meal of a Thai Crunch Wrap W/ Pita Chips. Unfortunately the flavors were underwhelming, deserving of 2 stars. I went ahead with the 3 stars (A-OK) , as it looked like a good place, and I know I could have built my own wrap that would have been tastier. I would return. Note: This was part of my MealPal experience. Check out my Mealpal DTLA collection of you want to follow along. If you are scratching your head about MealPal...google it. The meal was ready for pick-up.

I moved to LA 4 years ago from DC where Sweetgreen was really popular. I was SO STOKED when they started opening up out here! ... but then I discovered Salata. It truly puts Sweetgreen AND Tender Greens to shame! I come to this location every Friday. I've done both in-store and online orders. While the line can be quite long around noon every day, it always moves quickly. I appreciate that the quality and quantity of the salads doesn't vary at all when ordering online vs in person. One TIP, however - in person, you can ask for a delish croissant and it's free with your salad. An extra one is $1. Butttt, when ordering online, you're asked if you want tortilla strips OR the croissant. This is odd because in person, the tortilla strips are one of the endless, unlimited toppings you can choose from, not a side item that you only get one free one of like the bread. I like my strips mixed in when I order in store, so to still get both items online, select the strips to be mixed into your salad, then ask for the bread when you go to pickup the order. :) What makes this place the best is the fact that only meat and avocado are extra. Most other build-your-own places literally charge extra for EVERYTHING. Like at Sweetgreen, you're limited to 3-4 toppings and cheese and egg are extra. Here, there is NO CAP on how many toppings you get for free, which even includes freshly-cooked bacon bits! I workout almost every day, so a salad typically doesn't fill me up for too long. Not only does this salad truly hold me over for at least 6 hours, but the serving size is HUGE. I get most of the toppings + avocado + spicy chicken, and I swear the container weighs like 3 lbs lol.

I came by for lunch one day for the first time and the lady behind the counter walked me through how everything works. They have a wide variety of greens to choose from as well as toppings. The meats are extra and for chicken it was about $4.50 for a small scoop. They also have plenty of dressings to choose from. I went for a pita wrap instead of a salad tray and the total of my order came out to roughly $16 which is pretty steep. My wrap was decent, but for the price tag, not so much.

Recommended if all you want is a straightforward salad with a vast selection of good quality add-ins. Decide on the size: large or small, pick your greens mix then let your pointing finger do the talking for whatever else you want in there. You can add as much or little as you desire and the up-charges for seafood and avocado are reasonable. You are in and out relatively quick. Order online if you're really looking to maximize efficiency.

I love to double my avocado count. It make the wrap so much more creamy! It's a game changer!

Love it! Healthy on the go! My favorite is the wrap! I dont mind paying extra doubling my avocado count because it makes the wrap that much more creamy! It's a game changer!

So many choices :)

At first I wasn't a fan of the concept of making your own salad; the process that is (ie., telling them what you want, especially when it's your first time & you have no clue how it goes), but I finally got it down & now go thru it a lot faster. With that said, I do like that they have unlimited toppings - what they consider "non-protein" items; other places (Tender greens, Sweetgreen, etc) give you only 4 free choices & even then, they're so ridiculous with charging extra for boiled egg & what not. Simply Salad is also good, but they tend to over chop the greens a bit too much. Anyhow, that is why I like Salata the most. You get a fresh take on salad choices, fresh greens & toppings, dressing, etc & you even get complimentary bread of your choice. Price isn't too bad, but it can go up to $15 if you get more than one protein item and a drink. Lines can be long, try to go extra early before it starts or after lunch which is very doable at 12:30ish. You have the area outside (underground) that you can sit without being in the hot sun. The only thing that makes the experience (for me) not 5 star worthy (here we go......) I have to agree w/some of the other reviewers when they mention the service, the "chintzy-ness" of portions of toppings - sure you get a lot of lettuce, it's cheap for them, and some of the ladies that work there are awkward to deal with (to put it politely & lightly) I always have to repeat myself, some of the ladies do appear to be either rude or sarcastic (& even snickering at the customers behind or in front of them) But, this is the closest location to our office and so just put up with their lack of customer service skills to get what you want and get going. I'm so glad my new Supervisor took me there, she's a beautiful fit & health conscious being and i just love her choices, this was one of them :)

I am a huge fan of Salata, and I use to frequent when I was working out of the valley, so hearing about the one downtown got me very excited. I have been meaning to head to this location for ages and I'm so glad I finally had. They still have the same great options, the fresh veggies, hot soups and tasty drinks. The location is small, and is meant for a quick pick up, but there is plenty of seating outside. This location closes at 3, probably due to the fact that they cater to business employees downtown. Only reason why I don't give Salata a 5 star rating is because it's a little too expensive with the protein add ins, but still a great treat. Definitely worth a visit.

Salata is in the shopping center under the California twin towers on Grand Ave. The premises are very clean and well organized. I had a large salad with alot of add ons including salmon, crabmeat, shrimp, Edamame, onions, artichoke hearts...whew...alot of delicious stuff! I had a broccoli soup with that and pb, choc cookies. The salad was phenomenal. Ingredients are super fresh, delicious and even though I was starving; I had to set aside some for another meal with such a large salad full of my favorite meats. The Broccoli soup was also superb and piping hot. The cookies were chewy and excellent as well. Service is very fast- I was done in about 7 minutes and they are very popular. This was my first time at a Salata and my verdict is best salad and soup bar lunch in DTLA. Keep up the great work Salata team.

Updating to five stars because of Richard and Angie. They're the best, always warm greetings and when we walk in, brings our salads ready to be picked up. They are awesome! I love Salata, Richard, and Angie!

One of the many locations in DTLA, gotta love the consistency. Salata is always a good choice for lunch because you can choose exactly what you want in your salad. This location is great as well, friendly service, fresh ingredients.

Hands down best service ever! I don't understand the 3 or 1 star rating, because this place is pretty awesome. Think of this salad bar as pieology for salads. They have 3 sizes, I got the $9 one which is the largest. They give you plentiful of leaves and toppings. Don't be afraid to put ALL the toppings in! The protein is additional charge, ranging from $3.50-5.50. I got the baked tofu and they give you a good amount. The produce is crips, vibrant, and fresh. But what I really wanted to point out is the customer service. I wish I had gotten her name - she's a tiny, Hispanic lady and I'm pretty sure she's one of the seniors there. She saw my hoodie and asked me if I went to the Colburn and I said yes. Then she started talking about her niece and how she loves to ballet and such. She was ringing me up as I was talking to her and getting a cookie and she told me the cookie is on the house! Again, great salad bar: fresh veggies, inexpensive, great customer service. You can tell this place has regulars, since the servers know them by name. This will be a regular spot for me!

Kale and Spring Mix base with a ton of vegetables (to be honest I really don't remember which ones I put)

I want to update my review about the location of Zinc that I wrote over a decade ago. Since my…read moreinitial review, I've continued to come to this restaurant. It remains a unique addition to the neighborhood, as well as a good place to grab some interesting dishes. Since the opening of this particular business, the Zinc chain has opened in a few other locations. Those locations are much newer in not only their establishment but their design. This is not to say that this is still not an interesting, well-designed business, but, with time, it has become a little bit rundown. I hate to say it, but that is the truth. This location could really use an update and perhaps a deep cleaning. I was, in fact, kind of surprised at the condition of this business, for example, on the way towards their restrooms. From my opinion, it needs an clean up and an update. Also, the litter that surrounded some of the outdoor tables where I was sitting at my most recent visit was very surprising. This is just something to keep in mind if you're coming here for your first visit. In terms of what they offer for food, though it has evolved a bit over the years, they still have a great, heath-based menu, with some very interesting choices. For all of you vegetarians and vegans out there, you will, for sure, be able to find some tasty food to eat. Once upon a time, this restaurant was impacted with tons and tons of people. It was constantly full with people either going to the bakery and/or sitting down for table service. Shortly past their opening each day, there would be a line of people waiting for service. This seems to have changed, however. Meaning, if you're looking for an interesting place to eat, with some good dishes, at the far Southeast side of DTLA, near the lofts district, and you want a place without a long wait to get a table and/or your food, this may still be your place to go.

This was, without a doubt, the worst experience I've ever had at Zinc. I've been coming here on and…read moreoff for the past four years and have never experienced customer service this bad. We started with coffee. My boyfriend ordered a mocha, and I ordered a salted caramel latte. His drink was fine, but mine had absolutely no flavoring. As a former barista, I could immediately tell it was just a plain iced latte. I politely asked the waitress if they had forgotten the syrup, and she insisted, "There is syrup in it, but I can ask them to add more." I knew there wasn't any syrup, but I didn't want to argue, so I said, "Sure, please add more." A few minutes later, the manager came over and told me they actually didn't have salted caramel. So I asked if I could just get a regular caramel latte instead. She then told me they couldn't make that either because they were out of caramel sauce, the very reason they couldn't make the salted caramel in the first place. So why hand me a plain iced latte and tell me it had syrup when you knew you didn't even have the ingredients? Why not simply come back and let me know you were out and ask if I'd like something else? Instead, I was given a regular latte at the price of a flavored one (plus they later charged me for the syrup they never even added). For context, I had originally ordered a dirty chai, which they also couldn't make. So that's two drinks they didn't have, yet no one thought to communicate that before serving me something completely different. When I told the manager I'd look back at the menu for another option, she responded, "Okay... are you going to tell the waitress what drink you want?" I just looked at her, confused, and said, "Well... yeah?" How else was I supposed to order a replacement? The interaction came across as unnecessarily rude. Then it was time to order food. My boyfriend ordered the truffle burger, and I ordered the French toast. The waitress came back a few minutes later and said they couldn't make the French toast. No problem, I told her I'd also have the truffle burger. She acknowledged it, wrote it down, asked how I wanted it cooked, and what side I wanted. I ordered it medium-well with fries. So both burger orders were sent in at the same time. About 20 minutes later, the food arrived, but only my boyfriend's burger and an extra side of fries that we never ordered. At that point, we didn't even bother saying anything about the fries because we were trying to avoid making things more difficult. We waited another 20 minutes (even though it was so slow). My boyfriend finished eating, and my burger still hadn't come out. Finally, we asked for the check and requested that my burger be removed since it never arrived. That's when the waitress told us I had never ordered a second burger. I was honestly speechless. I reminded her that she had taken my order after telling me they couldn't make the French toast. She had written it down, asked how I wanted it cooked, and asked what side I wanted. Her response was that she thought I meant only my boyfriend's burger. That explanation made no sense because my boyfriend's order had already been taken before she took mine. It honestly felt like we were being gaslit over something as simple as ordering a burger. To make matters worse, after we paid and were finally leaving, I looked at the receipt and realized I had been charged for the salted caramel latte that I never actually received. We had to go back yet again. Thankfully, a different employee, not the waitress or the manager helped us. They were friendly, understanding, and quickly corrected the charge. I'm not sure if management has changed, but this entire experience was unnecessarily frustrating from beginning to end. Everything that could have gone wrong did. Honestly, I should've taken the "B" health grade posted on the window as a warning. We ended up walking over to Blue Bottle next door for coffee instead, and I'd absolutely recommend going there if you're looking for a place that actually values customer service. After four years of coming to Zinc, this experience has me seriously questioning whether I'll ever be back.
