I've been seeing Hanabi for about 3 years now and she is amazing and I've loved my cut every time. I'm very low maintenance with my hair and get very infrequent cuts and she knows how to cut my hair so it'll look great while growing out to any length. (I get my hair cut above my shoulders and usually see her again after it's grown like 7-8 inches. It was my first time this past week at Salon and it won't be my last. From entering to leaving I was pleased with my experience. The staff was friendly and helpful, the site was clean and pleasant. This was hands down the best experience I've ever had. Honestly, If I could give 10 stars I would. From booking the appointment, being greeted by the business owner herself whose name is Nhu, who then directed me towards the back, where I can put on a light robe over my clothes then headed upstairs. To my surprise, almost every seat was taken! Refreshments on the table, restrooms were easy to find, other employees were cleaning, sweeping, wiping, restocking, even helping us out even in the middle of haircut... just the works. The salon felt so clean, so professional, definitely high-end but worth the splurge. When I sat down, I shared with Mari some images of haircuts I liked and others that I def did not like. Before we got started, Nhu greeted us again and took me to... what looked like a mini-studio where we can take a few before pics. After I was done, Mari came and got me then cut some of my hair then headed to get my hair washed. Then she wrapped my hair in a towel, walked me back to her station, and started working her magic on me while at the same time, making conversation and getting to know me which felt so genuine and sweet. She also shared some tools and tips on how I can style my hair in a few ways, some products I can try, and now I want to buy a Dyson hairdryer, haha! Anyhow, after I was done, we went back to the mini-studio and we took a few after pics. I am really happy with the length, the style, the care that was shown from start to finish, and just the overall experience. I do, however, have one suggestion--let new customers know before we come in, that cash for tip is encouraged as you can not tip on the card which leads to another suggestion, you could just have the hairdresser's Venmo QR code on hand and I can just scan her QR code directly with my Venmo app and then I know for sure, she has been tipped by me handsomely and discreetly. That being said, while I'm moving away--I will come back to visit just to get my hair done by Mari. This was the Disneyworld experience of Hair Salons and others should follow suit. She has styled my hair from waist length to shoulder length and her styling makes it easy to rock any length. She not only does an amazing job doing your hair but she also teaches you how to maintain and take care of your hair. I always feel and look fresh and fabulous after Mari cuts and style my hair. I came here for a cut and color several weeks ago and was assigned to Janet and Melinda. Both hairstylists exceeded my expectations! I spent no less than 6 hours in the chair. They could have easily rushed through the process and sent me on my way, but instead they took their time to make sure everything was as I wanted it. I have hair that is naturally blonde, but this is the first time that I was able to achieve platinum color in just one visit. I would highly recommend Kaela for coloring! I went in for color (a root touch-up, all over highlight and toning). I have naturally black Asian hair and had it balayaged brown previously. I wanted to go BLONDE which is quite a bit lighter than my original hair- and Kaela made my blonde dreams come true! I call her my f(hair)y godmother! She told me she would try to achieve the lightest we can go without significantly damaging my hair. I really trust her judgment, as I thought I wanted all blonde near the tips, but she suggested we do a more dimensional look- and it turned out better than I imagined- I love the dimension! It did pull a bit warm at the roots in my opinion (more of an orangey brown) which I think is a typical thing for asian hair to do (and I wanted more of a cool toned brown at the roots), so perhaps maybe more toning/different shade of toner was needed. Nevertheless, I still love my hair. She worked tirelessly for about 6-7 hours on my hair to create a balayaged/highlighted blonde look. She is definitely a perfectionist and puts a lot of effort into her work and achieving a look you want- not to mention polite and kind! Truly an artist. I came here for a haircut and it was great! I called in and was able to get an appointment the same day. The haircut included a wash, cut, and blowdry/style. The wash did not include a massage and it was very short but the purpose is to clean & condition your hair and that's what was done. The haircut was great as my stylist asked me exactly what I wanted, provided suggestions but not in a pushy manner, and managed to be totally cool when I changed my mind about a style last minute. She was great! The blowdry was lovely and the salon is very nice and fresh! It's located on Maiden Lane so parking is a no, but public transit is really close (BART) or you can grab a lyft/uber. Once my haircut was done, I walked downstairs and was able to quickly pay and place my tip in a discreet envelope. The cashier was not pushy but friendly and attentive. They also have water, coffee, tea upstairs that you can grab at any time. The price for my haircut was $73 which is pretty pricey for me, but I only get a haircut/style like this a couple times a year and the remaining times I typically just get a trim. This salon is totally awesome! I called on a Tuesday in July for a color correction appointment. The receptionist insisted that I come for a consultation and gave me a time frame the same day that I could come during. Chelsea was my colorist and she asked me about the complete history of my hair (it was processed twice 2 months ago by a terrible colorist). She asked for pictures of exactly what I wanted to fix it into and described to me places of "light" and places of "dark" on the model's hair to confirm that I would want the same on my head. We schedule an appointment for cut and color the next day. This salon is spotless and posh, as expected for a place on Maiden Lane. They have a dedicated receptionist that is enthusiastic and sweet. When you come in, you're sent to the changing room to change into a cozy robe, then you're seated upstairs where they have endless magazines, free wifi, lemon water, fruit punch, espresso machines, etc. to really make yourself comfortable. Chelsea met me on time and was not overbooked or rushed at all. I had another in depth consultation with the stylist Hanabi who would be cutting my hair. At Salon Nine, they have separate people for cut and color. That's genius! I mean if there can be 5 different kinds of dermatologists, there can definitely be specializations for hair right? Hanabi made sure I knew exactly what I wanted in terms of length and style and she cut the length for me before we proceeded to coloring. Chelsea was super focused on doing my color. She didn't make much small talk because she was so focused on picking the specific strands of my hair to highlight in order to achieve the better blending I wanted. She would pick up the strands of hair and lay them on hair to be sure the highlights fall where she wants. She's a perfectionist and one time she audibly sighed because my hair was so messed up and she just wanted her job to look perfect for me! She hand painted the toner on the rest of my hair and left it on longer. She offered me an Americano and checked every 5 minutes to make sure the color was developing perfectly. She also separately toned the highlights and gave a free deep conditioning treatment. You can see in my photos that I achieved a perfect ashy brown that Chelsea advised would fade into a neutral. No more brass! Thank god! Hanabi then did an amazing job cutting and styling my hair (two different ways) and giving hair care advice and product recommendations. They both indulged my desire to take dozes of photos of their gorgeous work! I would highly highly recommend this salon for precision hair coloring and hair cuts. It doesn't run cheap, but you can feel at ease that you're getting quality products (they used Tigi for coloring, Keratase for hair care on me) and amazing service. I am still in glee the next day because I look like a million bucks! read more

Salon Nine's colorist Vivian never disappoints! I find it common for Asian hair to look brassy when going blonde but when Vivian does my ombré I don't have that problem! It always turns out exactly how I want. Vivian is super sociable and funny, which makes getting your hair done even more fun. She's interested in getting to know you, so there's no awkward small talk. Her knowledge with products is incredible.
