Pizza is good, chicken parmigiana sub was good but I wouldn't order it again. The mozzarella sticks were awful, you could taste the freezer burn or stale, not sure but they were real bad. Being from New York and relocating to Nashville this was the first place that we were actually satisfied with their New York style pizza pies. We tried other local pizzaria's but they cut their pizza into about 20 slices that are triangles and squares. Real pizza should always be 8 slices in triangles unless it's a Sicilian pie which should be 12 slices in rectangles. The cheese and the sauce remind us of pizza from New York and their crusts are cooked just right. We have moved further away from this Sal's location but we still stop by Sal's for a pizza whenever we're close by. read more

I saw a movie with new friends and they suggested Sal's pizza. They r regulars and we were given the WORKS!!! A table of 13 and everything was fast, fresh, and tasty. I've been going to Sal's pizza for over 10 years! In fact, we used to go to the old one (Picnic Pizza) before it branched out to this one. My friends from Italy introduced me to this tiny hole in the wall pizzeria...back then I think the owners didn't speak much of anything but Italian. Their hand tossed crust has always been good...you know...that good kind that you can fold over and just take a bite out of the huge slice...and enjoy the combination of flavors and textures...without burning your mouth bc it's too hot and you can twist to eat it! Their salads are filled with black and green olives and cheese...an interesting alternative to the typical house salad. Great vinaigrette dressing I might say..simple, but just the right touch of spices in olive oil and vinegar. Tonight we had the Square Sicilian pizza crust with a savory tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella cheese and veggies! The crust is crispy...not soggy...or doughy...just perfect! Sauce is savory - Oreganoish, but simple and fresh. Fresh mozzarella and veggies to top! Excellent weekend dinner! $9.99 for small pizza! (My husband and I couldn't finish it!) I stopped in for lunch with a co-worker who said that they used to come here a lot and it had a good buffet. I know It might sound like I'm cheap but 12 bucks for the lunch buffet with a drink was way to expensive for this place. The pizza wasn't that bad, now don't get me wrong it was nothing to write home about either. It was like Sabarro only not as good. They we're a close tie for the same amount of grease though. I do have to say that at least the banana pudding had crisp vanilla wafers, so that made the instant mix taste a little bit better. The place wasn't dirty but it wasn't really clean either. When I went to the bathroom they had a sign that said....... " We know how many places to choose from when eating out. Our goal each day is to make sure we keep our restrooms sparkling clean ever day for our customers. Thank you for choosing Sal's Pizza today." I can honestly say that on that day, they failed miserably at their goal. The place stunk to all get out it and it looked as though it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. So needless to say this isn't on my top 5 pizza places in town. I was really exited to try out Sal's. We've lived over here by the lake for a few years & have always talked about trying it. Last weekend we decided to order a pizza to eat before we left town. We skimmed the menu & decided on the Sal's Tropical Sicilian square, which is a thick crust, square pizza with pineapple & ham for $12.99. I called it in & they said it would be about 25 minutes. I arrived at the restaurant about 20 minutes after I called. The place is kind of small. It's sandwiched between two gas stations, the parking lot is always busy with cars moving to & from. Inside, it's your average pizza place. Looks like they have an areas set up for a lunch buffet. The place could use a little editing. A lot of random stuff around. There's a large office desk up from when you come in with two office chairs & junk on the desk. I walked up to the cashier & 3 employees were there talking about something. I stood there for about a minute until I was acknowledged. I gave the lady by debit card & she swiped it on an iPad & spun it around for me to sign & gave me my pizza. I got her (the pizza) home & was ready to dive in. My boyfriend is a food blogger & we happen to have a ruler in the kitchen, you know, as you do. Maybe the 12inX12in is a precooking size, because ours was 10.5in by 11in. We lost out on 28.5 square inches of pizza!! Anyway, back to the pizza. At first bite, I thought something was a little off. I love all pizza, thick, thin, regular, extra crust, not crust, but this was odd. I ate a couple slices and decided that it was maybe they use a butter spray to line the pan, that & it's cooked in a smokey oven, maybe? The bread of the crust didn't have much of a flavor but of the butter spray & a smoke flavor. Overall I wasn't that impressed with the pizza. Reminds me of store bought frozen pizza, except not as good. My wife ordered pizza with spinach, chicken and extra cheese, there was one very small leaf of spinach, two thin 1 inch square of chicken, and no extra cheese we could see. I had ordered sausage and it had 4 small bites of sausage. And mine had very small amounts of cheese. I eat here every time I go through Nashville. My great grandma used to make the best pizza in the world and one day I stumbled upon this gem and thought why not( I try to support local businesses as much as I can) and for 2.50 a slice it's an easy decision! Anyways this is the closest I've found to my grandmas pizza. I've never had bad service but typically when I come through it is not a time people typically eat so I wouldn't really know. I ate here 2 weeks ago and the last time before that was probably 4 years before, so they remain in business for a reason so if you're looking for some good pizza and you happen to be going through Nashville this place is HIGHLY recommended by me. I think it's exit 219 off of I40. It is not out of the way at all traveling down 40 which is a huge plus because when I travel there is nothing that I hate more than going out of my way off of the interstate. Also sitting right in between 2 gas stations so it's a one stop shop. I came from Memphis so this is a pretty good to refuel, get gas and whatever else I may need while traveling. read more

As a 4 member family with hungry tummies we hit this place up around 1 pm on a Saturday. There was a sign written in marker or chalk about a cheap lunch buffet with times, but not days shown. We asked about it and were told it was only on weekdays. Wouldn't it be nice to simply place (M-F) on your sign so its clear folks? Or maybe take down the sign? Why make patrons ask? There were one or two other small families there. College football was on. We sat there for 5-10 minutes before we were greeted. We sat there another couple of minutes before we were asked for our drink orders. We asked to order our food along with our drinks because of the extended wait. We ordered a large meat lovers to satisfy a variance of likes and dislikes. Our server came out after 5 minutes with plates, napkins, and silverware. After another 15-20 minutes our food came out. The pizza itself was very large, hot, very fresh. It was fantastic actually. Lots of leftovers, even for our family. I have ZERO complaints about the pizza...it was GREAT. Our bill came to under $20. However it seemed like this server at a small pizza joint was unable to handle this non-prime-time 2-3 family place by herself. It didn't seem like she was new, just genuinely disinterested in working there. I get it. Its not what you pictured during career day in school, but play the role you signed up for. During non-peak times there is NO reason why you shouldn't have greeted a table and asked for their order within 5 minutes. Remember this: You can have the best product in town, but if nobody wants to deal with your unimpressive staff, you are losing out on guests\money. Advice: Put some fire under their behinds before they drag your business down. *Either take down the sign that propped the door open mentioning the lunch buffet or simply write (M-F) on it to save your patrons the embarrassment of having to ask and getting denied.* This should be common sense right? Note: I would give this 2 stars on the service but 5 on the food if I could. This isn't the only mention of poor customer service. We ordered an extra large extra cheese. She kept saying 'large' whenever she would repeat my order and i would say 'wait, extra large right?' Yes. Ok. I also ordered garlic bread and their sausage sandwich. Went to pick it up. The guy at the counter said "large extra cheese, garlic bread and sausage sandwich?" Yes sure. Anyway the pizza ended up being really good. I think they use good cheese. I loved the pizza. Garlic bread was good. Nothing super exciting but still good. And the sausage sandwich was the disappointment of the night. It's supposed to be a sweet Italian sausage link sandwich with peppers and onions. For some reason I thought the sauce came on the side. It comes on it. I dont really like sauce on my sausage sandwiches but that's my fault for not asking. My issue is that they cut the sausage into small pieces. The bun is giant so it's a ton of bread to not a lot of filling. When i first opened it I thought they forgot the sausage. It's not distributed very well through the sandwich either so the ends are just bread. It had ok flavor but i wouldnt get it again. I debated between that and the manicotti. Restaurant.com has get $20 worth for $10 certificates --I saw no where on my coupon where the order had to be dine-in only 3. He also had to "call" the number to restaurant.com to verify that I purchased the coupon. I use restaurant.com deals all the time and never has a business had to call. 2. The cashier had no empathy after I told him that I was not aware of the dine-in rule and I expressed that my dog was waiting in the car 3. So, every time I look up Sals on Yelp to grab the number to call for take out, I'm always taken back about the fact that it has under 4 stars. My husband and I live super close and eat here fairly often. We usually get take out and love their calzones but we have eaten in before and we didn't get great service, the server seemed distracted and she got my order wrong, also tried to tell me I ordered what she gave me until she looked back at her notes and realized she put it in wrong, honestly if it didn't have onions in it I would have just eaten it as I'm not one to send back food, but I just can't with onions.
