    The Perfect Ice Cream Scoop
    Gabby P.

Salt & Straw is one of my favorite ice cream shops of all time! I love how they offer seasonal flavors that come in and out of rotation, making it very unique. I opted for the honey lavender and caramel ribbons in a split scoop cup. It was absolutely delicious. The ice cream servers were friendly and helped me try different samples. The location was pretty busy for a Saturday night but the wait wasn't long. I love this place, and it's in a great location and neighborhood. I'll be back soon!

I like coming to salt & straw and trying out a bunch of samples. I always do this to try out the monthly flavors and then get a pint to go. However I won't be back to the Ballard location. The woman helping me seemed annoyed after I asked for my 4th sample. I've never received this type of energy before. Even late at night, the staff have always been happy to give lots of samples and will always suggest some flavors too. Because of this I normally feel comfortable asking for multiple samples, especially since there was no line. Ice cream is great but customer service is lacking at this location. I ended up getting a pint of the Sea salt w/carmel ribbons which was delicious!

Always so good. Always so consistent. Always a line but so worth the wait! Tons of very unique flavors. My favorites are the pear and goat cheese, honey lavender, strawberry vegan. Love that they have seasonal flavors that tie to the holidays! Friendly staff

Friendly staff, restroom available inside the store (which is clean and well kept!), ample seating and space for long lines and of course bomb icecream. My signature go to flavor is Olive Oil but when they have the cereal flavors which is happening now, berried treasure (captain crunch) and the pot o gold (lucky charms) hits the spot.

The vegan options are ok. They typically have at least 1 vegan seasonal flavor and two vegan all-the-time flavors. Sometimes they're creamy and delicious. The seattle area stores generally have a vegan hazelnut cookies & cream, mint chip, and strawberry coconut that are good. I actually really like the "ghost" sorbet flavor in October. People who work there are really nice and you can get as many samples as you want before ordering. Some seats inside along the window and bench area.

I love the unique flavors of ice cream that Salt and Straw offers. They are very well made and quality is felt at every lick. I still remember when I first tried their Arbequina Olive Oil ice cream and I was blown away. My family did not agree and they thought it tasted like bland cardboard. Whatever. I thought it was uniquely phenomenal and that instantly became my favorite ice cream of all time. Of course, Salt and Straw offers more than Arbequina Olive Oil flavor. We also love Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons and Salted, Malted, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Again, quality products and you can feel it in every scoop. You're definitely paying for high quality ice cream as you need to expect to spend about $10 per person. But you get what you pay for. The service is friendly and it has a very welcoming vibe.

I saw that Salt & Straw had pretty high reviews so even though this is further out, we ventured to this location. It's located in a small strip which does have street parking but they were all taken. We got paid street somewhere further down the street. It wasn't too busy for a Friday night and we got to sample a couple of flavors before deciding on Coffee and Love Nuts and Sea Salt with Caramel Swirl. There were a couple of other flavors that piqued my interest (the creepy crawler) but I was too squeamish to try actual insects. The ice cream melts fairly quickly considering it was cold out but it wasn't melting to the point of being runny. The waffle cone is packed to the very bottom as well! The decorations in the store are minimal and there are a couple of seating options in the store. It gives off the vibe of being a quiet place to grab some ice cream and maybe work on other tasks.

February rocks cause it's chocolate month here!! And per usual S&S fashion they're happy to let you sample all of them.

This month's flavors are delicious, and this location is great! They have a good amount of seating and are really generous with their kids scoop sizes. I loved the death by chocolate cake flavor - so perfect for chocolate lovers!

Salt & Straw makes ice cream an adventure. Their flavors are wildly creative -- I tried the Gruyere & Tomato Custard Tart and it was surprisingly delicious, along with a few other seasonal picks that were just as inventive. The ice cream itself is creamy, high quality, and they let you sample to your heart's content, which makes it fun to explore. The only drawback is the long lines during peak hours, but the friendly staff and unique flavors make it worth the wait.

The scent of the fresh waffle cones is always enticing enough to draw me in! There's always a line, but it moves quickly, and the staff here usually bring samples for you to try before you reach the counter. This was kind of a hit or miss for me, as sometimes the staff forgets the flavors the group wants to sample and brings the wrong ones. But overall, service has been efficient and friendly. I love the classics like Sea Salt Caramel and Honey Lavender, and I enjoy sampling the quirky seasonal ones like melon prosciutto or miso blondie. They're not always the best tasting in my opinion, but still super fun to try. Salt & Straw is definitely one of the best ice cream shops out there :)

The line is long, although it does move, and if you buy a pint, you can go straight to the register to pay. There is limited seating indoors and a few benches outdoors, and they have pup cups and a few merch and other items for sale. You can try samples before you decide what you'd like to order, but the friendliness seems very dependent on who you get. For us, I felt the person we got was 1) new and/or 2) not very accommodating to my husband's severe nut allergy (even though their website makes it seem like staff would be trained to handle this type of situation), because they said something along the lines of "you can sample, but I have to scoop your order from a pint, so I recommend you sample one flavor you're pretty confident you'll like" -- what's the point of sampling and not just committing to buying a pint, then? I understand it takes a little more time and effort to scoop samples from unopened pints, but the girls in front of us took much more time to sample multiple (5+) flavors. I tried 2 flavors and did not love either, and because I felt unwelcome to try any more, I took a chance and blindly ordered something else. I did not enjoy what I got, but for $10 I wasn't throwing it away. Because of this experience, I am rating this a 3/5. My advice is to take your time and if you have a severe nut allergy, maybe go elsewhere!

While in Seattle for the Seafoodfest, we made a much-needed stop at Salt & Straw--and it did not disappoint. Even with the festival crowds, the customer service was on point. The shop itself was clean and manageable with the large crowd. Our server was incredibly kind and patient, offering sample after sample with a smile, even while the line kept growing. I ended up with a double scoop: one Coffee and Love Nuts (rich and bold) and one Chocolate Gooey Brownie (so rich in flavor). I'll definitely be hitting up my local Salt & Straw in LA.

How does the new vegan caramel cupcake compare to the non vegan version? I love and miss the original, and I'm trying to decide whether to include the vegan one in my order. How are they similar/different?

Mine came absolutely drowning in syrup, and honestly, the flavor tasted pretty artificial and overpowering.

They offer an impressive variety of parfaits, floats, frappes, and lattes, with optional additions like mochi and red beans. It took us a while to decide because everything looked tempting. My daughter and I shared the Hojicha Mochi Parfait, while my son ordered the Hojicha Float with mochi. The parfait had a rich, authentic hojicha flavor and was generously layered with chewy mochi, crunchy cereal flakes, and creamy soft serve, giving it a wonderful mix of textures. The float was equally enjoyable, with a bold roasted hojicha flavor that wasn't overly sweet, and the mochi was a fun addition. The quality of the desserts was excellent, and while the prices are on the higher side, they reflect the quality of the ingredients and presentation. If you're a fan of matcha or hojicha, this is definitely a place worth visiting.
