I don't know about the quality of the gelato or other food because the place was closed during its posted open hours. At first, I thought that maybe someone had experienced an emergency. But then, I found the same complaint from multiple people over a period of time on another site. I don't normally post reviews for negative experiences. Instead, I either don't return or try to let the place know. But, we made a special trip there on a beautiful Saturday and arrived at 5:40 PM, only to find a Closed sign on the door. We were planning to try the gelato and use their outside seating to enjoy the evening. Nothing about a closure was on the website. So, I called and left a voice message with my number for them to get back to me. instead, I immediately received a text pointing to the website. That was quite obnoxious, so I had to reply Stop. I went here for dessert after dinner and got the small gelato which is $6+tax. There is a bunch of flavors, but the fruity department is lacking. However, there are standout flavors like waffle cone that I had to get, as well as the more traditional flavors like pistachio. I sampled the pistachio as they claimed it was the best in town but was a little disappointed since the flavor was not too apparent and it's not the true pistachio hue that I usually see for natural pistachio (it was more green). The flavors I ended up getting were the waffle cone and strawberry rhubarb. I liked the quality of the gelato but it was more on the icy texture than smooth. For the price of $6+tax, it is one of the pricier options around for the portion. That's how I usually check out what's new supplementing the intel from other onsite blogs, local media sites, IG and Yelp. I was heading down Fremont Ave N with the intention to head to a cookie/ice cream spot for dessert after having dinner elsewhere. I noticed a sign that said gelato in capital letters. I made a u-turn and lucked out with a parking spot in front of Marmalade (7/3/25). I liked the outdoor seating, cute ornate tables with chairs, and also picnic tables. Inside, welcoming counter service, and eye catching interior decor. Nice variety of gelato and sorbet flavors to select from. We opted for 10oz grande cups - me w/the chocolate gelato and The Homie w/pistachio gelato ($10 each) . It turns out that the 16oz pints are a much better deal at $13. Duly noted for future visits. The Homie also had a Jaiphur chai latte ($5.50). It was nice to sit outside to enjoy dappled sunshine with a light breeze. Pleasant summer evening! Such yummy gelato and such friendly people working there! I did not get to experience their crepes as they were still perfecting their recipe (I visited in June), but their raspberry gelato was so refreshing and a perfect balance of sweet and sour. The place itself feels a bit cozy and cramped, but there is outdoor seating surrounded by greenery, and it was just so pleasant to sit outside, eat some gelato, and enjoy the sun. read more

The flavors here are delicious! They also have a few tables to sit at outside which is always nice on a pleasant day. I came on a Monday evening and there were quite a few people - we had to wait a bit to be helped since there was only 1 person working. They were nice to give samples of the gelato, and I tried a few. I knew this place was known for pistachio and theirs is great - really rich, nutty, and flavorful. I've lived in Fremont for 3 years, and most of that time has been spent waiting for this place to open. Boy was it with the wait! Although the hours don't seem to match what is entered into Yelp, a good bet is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons. The owner allowed me to try several flavors and even recommended a few- all were delicious. They allow for split scoops, and the chocolate caramel pretzel and amarena cherry worked together beautifully- perfect textures and taste. The outdoor seating is cute and allows for canine companions, and the location is right across from a bus stop (along with being walkable from anywhere in Fremont). There's a real community feel to Marmalade. Come here for gelato, crepes and coffee -- all delicious -- and stay for the ambiance. There's plenty of seating outside (under the shade of large trees), a speaker playing music, a game of corn hole, and a box of chalk for kiddos to get creative on the sidewalk. The cherry on top? Lovely location with twinkly lights hung outside of their tree over the patio. What a cute gelato shop. Reminds me of italian gelato, but not as creamy (I've been spoiled from my recent Italy trip!). But it's good enough for Seattle. Chocolate was my fav. Salted Graham was okay, but not mind blowing. They do let you taste before you select your flavor, so that was nice. We came here after dinner at Lupo Pizzeria across the street. Even though it was almost 9 pm, there was a long line at the storefront. Wait was short despite the long line. The staff was very helpful and walked us through their most popular flavors, including the famous signature pistachio flavor. I asked for his personal recommendation then sampled Jaipur Chai and pistachio flavors based on that. Both were amazing. The Jaipur chai was stronger than most chai tea beverages I have had, and the pistachio flavor was so nutty that it tasted like pure ground-up pistachio. I ended up going with Jaipur Chai bc the aroma was hard to leave behind. Absolutely loved it and will be back for more creative high quality flavors! TL;DR: A new gelato shop + cafe in upper Fremont that was years in the making (since 2018; opened up in 2025). The owner--Chris--is a master of gelato who creates unique flavors sometimes with hyperlocal ingredients. Chris is super generous, allowing you to sample all the gelatos and sharing the backstory for each. Definitely prioritize Marmalade as a must-go gelato shop in Seattle. If you're in the Fremont or Wallingford area, you must stop by. Chris is the owner. He's been working on this concept since 2018, and it's finally open in 2025! The wait was well worth it. The shop offers 6-8 different unique flavors of gelato that are hand crafted. One gelato used tea from the famous steam punk tea shop in downtown (Fremont). We had the vanilla and the rose cardamom: both had complex flavors that aren't easily found at other shops that use cheaper ingredients. We tried other flavors as well... all were common in that they had complex flavors that highlighted the quality of ingredients and preparation. Chris has an impeccable palette that results in complex flavors that he will encourage you to sample. During the sampling, he will tell you the backstory of each flavor and the flavor notes you should expect--amazing! The servings are more than generous, and the price point is very reasonable at $6-$8. The interior of the shop is cozy. There is some indoor seating; there will be outdoor seating for when the weather is a bit better. There's a large patio up front that you can also stand around, or make your way to BF Day park. Eventually, Chris mentioned there will be soups and crepes as well. If they're anything like the gelato, it'll be well worth your time. read more

This is such a cute but hidden little gem! The decor is very whimsical and fun. The server was very kind and greeted me. They offered information about the gelato and some samples and chatted with me. The gelato itself was all delicious. It seems like they always have 3 or so options that are dairy free and several of the flavors rotate. The watermelon cucumber mint sorbet was super refreshing and tasty and the cup and spoon were both compostable! Highly recommend and will be back! read more

(cross posted from my Google Review) Update: the hours are spotty, which is one concern I have. I think it's important to have consistent hours, and at least the past few weeks it's been unpredictably deviating from the listed hrs. It's not a big deal for me, who passes by during walks and stops in on whim - but it could be a big deal for people who go out of their way to travel here, only to find it closed. Just a heads up, maybe it's changed! ----- Some of the most incredible gelato I've ever had. Christopher is a genius with flavors and ingredients, and was so generous with samples as he talked us through the background behind each flavor. His dedication to quality and passion, and how he translates that into flavors that pop and are not your usual run of the mill stuff, just flavors you might see but eons better, is really admirable and even maybe above the bottom line. He's put a lot of love into the business and we feel so lucky to have him in the neighborhood. He used a local tea shop (B. Fuller's Mortar & Pestle) for an earl gray flavor, for example, and made his own pistachio paste after not being satisfied with the store bought stuff. He lovingly topped each of our gelatos with even more homemade powders, candied Sumo citrus peels from the citrus he used in a decadent and creamy dulce de leche, and I was hit with the most powerful vanilla in the vanilla ice cream for the "non vanilla lover". Give this place a visit: it's low key some of the best ice cream in Seattle and quite unlike any place I've visited before in Seattle (and I've tried my fair share!). Finding such a pure expression of artistry and passion at a small scale business in Seattle is becoming rarer these days, and I hope this place succeeds! read more

This is the best gelato I've had in Seattle and some of the best gelato I've had anywhere. My favorite flavor is their Utmost Vanilla, and my follow up favs are the Pistachio, anything with Cardamom, and the salted graham cracker. Whatever they make they seem to try to use the best ingredients - so if it has cardamom, they get cardamom pods and grind them. That approach is pretty evident in everything about Marmalade. The interior is beautiful and has an old world character that makes the shop feel like a destination - it's more than just a place to get great gelato. I stopped in here last night with my brother - we were in the area for dinner and I decided we should get some dessert after. I looked up dessert places and wasn't familiar with any of them but gelato sounded good so we walked and were totally charmed by the experience. The building is so cute and the french cafe style decor is adorable, and we loved the cafe patio seating. We shared a half and half chocolate and pistachio gelato and let me tell you, if this wasn't the best gelato I've ever had... The woman working the counter was super sweet and let us sample whatever we wanted and she also told us they were just starting to sell crepes! Marmalade is my new favorite gelato shop here in Seattle! Bonus points since it's just down the street from where I live! They're not always open, or maybe they're just open seasonally through the spring and summer mostly - they've been in and out the past month, getting ready to start opening more as we get into the warmer months. Let me tell you about the flavors - they are so delicious! The gentleman that usually mans the shop makes all the flavors himself! Also not to mention the quality - not one of those knock offs that you see that are just mounds of fluffy looking gelato - but actual real packed gelato with full flavor! They are well known for the best pistachio in Seattle, but I think some of their other flavors deserve the same praise - such as their cardamom flavor that is delicious and tastes very chai inspired!
