I give it a 2 because it was edible. Way overpriced food and drink for what you get. The halibut was over cooked! Way to much quinoa with the steak and super bland. Service was very slow. For being noted as one of the nicest, classiest restaurants in Juneau I was extremely disappointed. It took 2 hours to get our entrees (mushroom and truffle pasta), which didn't include one of the main ingredients...mushrooms. I would recommend of the local dive restaurants over this one. I have lived and worked in Juneau almost all my life, so I consider myself a local. I am trying to support the local businesses, in particular restaurants, during the pandemic, as I am a small business owner myself. When I heard an advertisement on the radio for a special Valentine's Day dinner at the Salt restaurant, I thought a nice dinner out with my wife would be a welcome treat for us as well as helping support a local eatery. Our reservations were for 6:00pm; we showed up at 6:05pm, and were quickly seated. The first thing I noticed was that all the tables were taken, and there was no social distancing (we were only a couple feet away from the table next to us). The next thing I noticed was that the background music was LOUD, and that along with the background noise from a restaurant full of people talking made it next to impossible to carry on a conversation with my wife seated across our small table. We tried unsuccessfully to talk on a few occasions, but had to revert to sitting silently while waiting for our food. The Valentine's dinner was a four course meal, and the choices looked delicious. We ordered our meals, and waited patiently for the first course, appetizers. The two large prawns that came with my appetizer were really tough, and almost could not be cut with my butter knife. My wife's mushroom appetizer looked good, but I did not find out how it was, as it was difficult to talk with the music blaring and the background noise from the conversations around us. The waiter picked up our plates, and we waited a LONG time (30 minutes?) for our next course. The second course for me was a lamb tenderloin salad. The lamb was good; the greens and tomatoes nothing special. My wife got Tracy's Crab Shack King Crab Bisque, which she said was good. The waiter picked up our plates, and we again waited FOREVER for our entrees. My wife was getting a migraine headache from the loud background noise and the incredibly slow service, so we gave up at 7:30pm and asked for the rest of our meal to go. She had to leave at 7:45pm because she couldn't take it any longer, and when I FINALLY got the rest of our meal at 7:55pm I left as well. I rushed my wife home (fortunately we live downtown), and as soon as we got there she had to run to the bathroom and throw up because of her splitting migraine headache. Then she took a couple of aspirin and lay down in our dark bedroom to rest and recover. I had ordered the Surf and Turf for my entree; when I opened up my to go container I found an 8 ounce(?) steak, TWO sea scallops, some baby potatoes, and some beans and greens. I ate the scallops, which were good, the beans, greens, and some of the potatoes. My wife's entree was the lobster thermidor, which she has not tried yet. I had ordered the creme brulee for dessert; It looked and tasted more like chocolate pudding with some whipped cream and sliced bananas. Our bill was $126.00, which I paid, but did NOT leave a tip (are your kidding?). To summarize, if you want to pay for overpriced food with glacial service (two hours to be served your entree?), you can eat at Salt, but we will NOT be going back. The next time we want a nice, reasonably priced meal with good service we are going to go to the Hanger Restaurant at Merchant's Wharf. It's also got a great view looking down Gastineau Channel on a nice day. read more

Salt hosted our rehearsal dinner for our recent wedding and it was perfect. The food was delicious and the staff was so attentive in helping to develop the menu. The atmosphere is lovely. The service was very good, even considering that we had an extremely large party. Best of all, though, was the cocktails. Try the cocktail that has bourbon and balsamic vinegar in it; it sounds weird but it was insanely yummy. read more

Dissapointing. Doughy calamari, salmon ceviche that was light on the salmon, slimy edges on the salad. To be fair, the halibut and vegetable Wellington were very good. And the atmosphere and staff are nice. But overall, too many disappointments for a $100 (with tip) meal for 2 people. read more

I was in Juneau for a phot shoot for one of the cruise lines that port there. it was a long day, my crew was hungry. there it was, this beacon shimming in the distance - Salt! We were quick to get seated, the waiter helped guide us through the menu, and was honest about the dishes we asked about. ( my big pet peeve is when servers give you lip service on the menu "everything is delicious!" - Really?) we were a large group, im almost certain between the crowd we had at least one of everything off the menu. I can only speak to what I ordered.. The Mexican corn was delightful, the beef tenderloin was cooked to perfection, it was a LARGE portion too, I was impressed considering the price, of course one of the boys helped me finish it. we had a tartar appetizer and a wonton appetizer, with were really nice. If I find myself in Juneau again, I would definitely eat here again! read more

Man, what an update! After the remodel, this is a new restaurant! My wife and I came here on a date night and left nothing but impressed. She ordered the quinoa and beet salad and the salmon. I got the spinach and pomegranate salad and the homemade pasta. Her salad had a bit too much quinoa and not enough beets, while the raspberry vinaigrette on my salad was perfect (not sweet at all, but great berry flavor). Her salmon was cooked to a perfect medium, which was nice to see. My pasta was slightly over cooked, but not to the point of ruining the dish, which otherwise was incredible. Desert was a key lime custard with a beautiful tartness to it and a great balance with some mangos over the top. We plan on going back soon. read more

Had dinner at Salt last evening. I should say almost had dinner. Arrived at 6:30. Was greeted by friendly staff and waitress. Ordered dinner at 6:45 and at 7:45 we had not received our dinner. I did notice that locals that were seated after us did have their dinners on a timely fashion. Once we received our food, an hour later after inquiring where our dinner was, it came LUKEWARM and shells of crab found in the $48 pasta dish. It obviously had been sitting in the kitchen. The decor is amazing how ever it is just the decor you are paying for. The food is not modern it was classical French with a juneau twist. Had dinner there with 8 people last night and the three of us that ordered the filet had to send it back because it was not cooked correctly. I ordered mine medium and had to send it back THREE times. When I got it back the third time, my filet had been cut into 5 pieces- a clear message that the chef was inexperienced and frustrated. Would not go back. And I felt it was overpriced. No staff came and apologized, either. On a good note, the small plate Brussels sprouts were fantastic. read more

Underwhelming food. Terrible service. We were a party of six who love food and had high hopes for this place so ordered almost everything on the menu. The beet salad and crab bisque were very good. The French onion soup was way over salted. The king crab risotto was nothing special. Halibut and Soba Noodle dish was cold. The (way over salted) noodles were chilled, so I am assuming they were supposed to be and then a sad piece of unseasoned lukewarm halibut (that I'm struggling to believe was really halibut) is placed on top. The best part of this dish were the scallops that my friend ordered. They were mistakenly placed in a circle around this "halibut" plate. When her dinner didn't show up, and we alerted our server, she said "oh! They put your scallops on her plate." Then reaching for the plate she had already served to me said "I'll just take this to the back and have them scrape those onto another plate for you" Haha. You can't make that up. She did just that and returned with a small plate with several scallops plopped into a pile and presented that to my friend. We just rolled with it because we had been waiting 90mins for our entrees already. The wine list is great and we ordered a couple of bottles that I poured out to our table as glasses got low due to the completely uninterested server we had for the night. read more

My wife and I decided to go to SALT last minute on our anniversary night due to a recommendation from a friend. Best. Choice. Ever. It was a Friday night and it was busy but no crowded, we got placed in a perfect little 2 sweater away from the huddle and bustle of it all. Our server was fantastic, she explained all the ingredients on our appetizer the duck confit platter and some of things I thought just decorated the dish were actually edible (probably a no duh to some people). We got a bottle of wine which was a great recommendation from the server. The scotch and whiskey are also top notch. I ordered the ribeye steak rare and my wife got the oxtail pasta. We both had such a great anniversary at SALT and spent over 2 hours there from the beginning to end and the food came out perfectly apart to where we settled our stomachs and got to eat all of our food. Literally the best food I have eaten while in Juneau. Started out with a French 75 which was spectacular. Put me on a perfect level to fully enjoy my food. I ordered the Filet Mignon with a side of gnocchi. It came out a little late, but the chef complimented us with a wonderful seafood bisque that tickled my taste buds. Once my meal arrived, it was like heaven in the form of a steak. Perfectly cooked, juicy and savory. For dessert, I had the blueberry donuts and the creme brûlée. The duck confit salad was so salty it was almost inedible. The beet salad had probably half a beet total and maybe half a strawberry in thin slices, let's not forget tiny pieces of mint and some bland schmear (creamy something) underneath it all. I don't recommend it. read more

My sister and I wanted to end our amazing time in Juneau by going to a nice restaurant on our last day here. We looked at Salt's menu and it looked amazing. Unfortunately the dinner was anything but that. The Wild Oven bread came out half warm and half refrigerator cold. So much for fresh bread. More frustrating was that the server didn't hear my sister order the crab special after she had asked her a ton of questions about it. My dish came out and many,many minutes later I finally ask the server why they didn't serve our dishes together and she said that was because my sister didn't order anything. Are you kidding me? My sister specifically said "I'll order the special". So we had to wait 15 minutes for her dish to come out and my dish got cold. When the crab special finally came, the crab was fresh but tasteless (no hint of the 4 ingredients that supposedly was in the sauce) and the noodles paired with the crab tasted like nothing but salt. I guess that's the main ingredient in a restaurant called Salt. Unfortunately this place had so much potential but in the end is not worth a grain of salt (in terms of service OR taste)! read more

Definitely not worth the cost. Service is horrific, food is better at the Subway next door. Went there at 4 (when it opens) and was told by rude waiter that menu is served at 5. What are they waiting for in this town, that some gold digger might come in (that's what you need, real gold, to pay their prices)? Had some of their "bar food", "puke food" would be the better description. Heard the Indian place next door is much better. It just ruins the whole atmosphere / appetite with a "no" atmosphere by the staff, no matter how good (in this case it wasn't) the good might be. Just a horrific experience. After reading glowing reviews online, I made reservations for a party of 10 for dinner. The steaks were excellent, the seafood dishes were cold, we had to ask for drinks refills, the 2 side items we ordered were never delivered, no one opted to return the cold food because it had taken so long to get our food to start with so they ate it cold. The manger took $5.00 off of the bill as a courtesy for crappy service and cold food. They left the full tip on. Skip this place! read more

Absolutely the best meal we've had in juneau! We walked away from the standard favorites, tracys crab shack and the harbor, unimpressed. But this place really knows how to cook its fish. We had the king salmon dish and it was wonderful. It wasn't overcooked and the pan broth it laid upon was a subtle treat in of itself. I was also very happy with the vegetable Wellington but my partner wasn't so much. The highlight for us was the creme Brule. It was perfectly balanced and not too sweet. The creme brulle impressed us so much we went back just for that the next day! read more
