This is my first visit to this location and it might be my new fave! The interior is a huge space, great for a big group - and even a little separate event room. Bright and clean inside. Service was wonderful, our server was friendly and gave us some great recs. My husband and I shared the 3 meat plate and had leftovers to take home. We ordered brisket, hot wings and ribs for our meats and Mac n cheese and beef fries for our sides. The ribs were our favorites - they literally fell off the bone as we put on our plates. The hot sauce has a kick and is delicious. The Mac n cheese is my favorite side here, so delicious. The beef fries are amazing too. Prices are very reasonable too. Not sure if I would go back. The location is in a crazy busy intersection. They do have a nice size parking lot to park in. The atmosphere was clean and nice inside. The food... We started off with the deviled eggs (good) and the hush puppies (horrible). The hush puppies had no flavor to them and were burnt on the outside. They give you a honey butter with the hush puppies and I see why because the hush puppies are horrible. Then we ordered the three meat platter with two sides. Smoke wings, ribs and chicken. The meat overall was good. They do offer four different sauces at the table to go along with the meat. We also ordered the coleslaw and fries, which were both good. I'm not a huge BBQ person so I was happy to see the other options available. I got the mixed greens salad with salmon on it. Salmon was good- not overcooked at all. I wish it had a little more on the salad. Weirdly I just loved their croutons! My friends all seemed to enjoy their meals with some ordering stuff to go too. Our waiter was stretched pretty thin because there were only 2 of them on the floor but he did as best as he could. He was very nice and pleasant despite being pulled in many directions. Amazing service from Lorri! She made our experience so delightful. We walked in 30 mins before closing on a rainy Thursday night. Andie seated us with a warm welcome. No one gave us the vibe of "we close soon", which was refreshing as we're often late diners. Lorri immediately brought sauces and silverware set up to our table. Boyfriend is a gluten free diner. Lorri was diligent about checking what was safe for him to eat. We started with chicken skins and deviled eggs. The new Salt + Smoke in south county is now open! I've always been a fan and I guess it's equidistant to their Hampton location in relation to where I live but it is nice to know that I can come dine here now before a Costco trip. Silliness aside, the food was great as usual and the service is super friendly and quick. What more could you ask for? We started with the dry rubbed wings. Absolutely delicious. I ordered my usual 2 bestie plate with brisket and balogna for dinner with creamed corn and a side kale salad. Really good. My husband had there burger (first time in all our visits to any of their locations) and he loved it! They have the same BBQ offering as their other locations. Yes, the place does have smokers on the side of the building. This new restaurant is roomy, bright and in a fantastic albeit busy location. I can already see myself coming in here often. read more

Don't eat here. The barbecue is not like any barbecue that I have had before. Most pulled pork is light colored with a slight red layer just under the surface; this was brown. But really, it was not all that bad if you put enough sauce on it that you could not taste it. Well, I lie ... it was still bad. The sides were better. They were mediocre. But the popover that came with the meal was the best thing. It had no taste at all. It reminded me of the Yorkshire pudding that we had in England in 1985. I mean it tasted like it was made in 1985. We were pleased to see that there's a newer location closer to us, so we stopped by for lunch. The actual restaurant is really nice. Spacious, clean, lots of seating. Large bar. But the atmosphere, the vibe even, felt very off. There were almost no people dining inside yet service was severely lacking. Our server Claire barely checked on us and was playing on her phone at the bar. The food was better than the service, but nowhere near good. My Brisket Sandwich was okay, but very gristly and fatty. To S+S credit, the beef fat fries were very good and crispy, especially dipped with their Alabama Ranch. However, I still thought my meal was subpar at best. My Dad said his 2 meat combo was too salty and dry. I tried a bite of it, and had to agree. Especially the "popover", which was supposed to be bacon flavored, but just tasted salty and dry. My friend and I finally decided on this restaurant. I was initially hesitant because of the mediocre reviews this place got. But man, oh man, we had an amazing experience. First of all, the food was delicious. We didn't even have to wait very long after we ordered. Honestly, we waited maybe 5 to 7 minutes and we were quickly served. My friend got the two meat platter with brisket and wings. I got the brisket and pulled pork. Our beers were delicious. My friend got an IPA and I got a citrus wheat beer. My sides came with potato salad and mac & cheese. The mac & cheese was by far the best mac & cheese side I've ever eaten from a restaurant. I thought sweetie pie's was the best before, but this restaurant is the best. My friend's wings were also amazingly delicious. The bread was a Yorkshire pudding. What was disappointing were the sauces and the waitress didn't even bother to explain what they were really. Some of them were self explanatory but some of them weren't. What was the point of the "I can't even"? It was the best one of the sauces but "hotangy" wasn't that hot and the sweet sauce was the second best of all the other flavors. I have always had excellent service when dining here and food is on the table very quick. The restaurant has always been clean and staff were very friendly. I have not had a bad experience here. I have had the ribs, pulled chicken & brisket that have hit the mark each time. I was really surprised by how good their cream corn was. Not your typical grandmothers cream corn from a can. The fries are great too as they are cooked in beef tallow. Do not sleep on this location when you are in SoCo. read more

My wife and I went there with friends for our first time. The service and the restaurant were very good. The food was a different story. I had three meats plate the fries side were the best thing on the plate. My smoked wings were terribly dry. Pulled chicken was dry with little flavor. The brisket was tasty but also dry. The worst was the salad side it had obviously been sitting around all the dressing at the bottom of the bowl tomato and not sure what the actual lettuce was called it was limp and tasteless. This location has only been open for 3 days. They don't take reservations. My wife and went early (4:15) and found ample parking and we got a table right away. Our server (Kelly) was wonderful, cordial and knowledgeable. We started with a Scotch egg appetizer that set the stage for a wonderful dining experience. The bartender with the huge nose ring didnt even great us! We sat at the bar for over 15 mins till what looked like the manager came over to assist us! I could see the appeal for some people. Hell my wife thought it was great, minus the server. If you don't go to bbq because they're "holes" then this place might be for you. We're frequent patrons of the Salt + Smoke franchise, so we were extra excited to have a new location in South County closer to home. The space is huge, yet inviting. Service was fast and friendly, but it's clear they're still figuring a few things out in the kitchen. The trashed ribs were more toothsome and not quite as fall-off-the-bone as we're used to, and we were told we'd get whatever ever cut of the brisket was available (since it just came out?), when we ordered burnt ends. For reference, we dined around 12:30 on a Sunday (they opened at 11), and have never been told we couldn't get burnt ends unless they had already sold out. It also seemed like far fewer house-made pickles were served with the ribs compared to other locations. Flavor profiles were all on point though, and we will be back after things settle. read more

My family loves Salt + Smoke so it pains me to give them this review. I had friends in from Tennessee and we really bragged about Salt + Smoke and thought it was a sure thing taking them there. Well, the brisket was dry like it had been sitting out uncovered for an extended period, there was none of the bark we've come to love on their brisket, and the salmon resembled a dense pink paste... I know this isn't typical Salt + Smoke quality so we will give them one more try. This location hasn't been opened long so I'm shocked that food quality has already taken a nosedive! read more
