Second time we have been there. Don't know why so low rating. Our place to go. This steak is very tasty. Best flavor in a steak i ever had. I didn't even want to swallow it. We divided the meal and added one salad and we left stuffed. We had 4 different waiters and waitresses taking care of us. So much attention. Wife needed to go to restroom and waitress didn't tell her where to go she took her and even opened the door. Whole experience was like we were VIPs. Place was very clean and workers seemed happy to be working there. Wished we had one closer to home. We live over 100 miles away. read more

I was disappointed. We ordered to go. Maybe that was the problem, food didn't travel/delay well? I love a good chopped steak. I didn't love this one. it was a glorified (thin) hamburger. It wasn't medium rare as requested, and was tough to the point I spit out pieces. And there should have been more "cognac" gravy, enough to use on the garlic madhed potatoes i had as a side. About those mashed potatoes...they were hard and dry, not at all creamy. I had to add butter and nuke them to make them edible. A TOTAL disappointed. I discovered the next day that my card was charged approximately $75 more than I charged and immediately notified them. Going on 3 weeks and still have not been credited. I visited this Saltgrass location last week. I chose the Gulf Coast Steak and Shrimp entree and I must say that savory falls short of the description that I would use. The waitress was very professional and pleasant. The manager there went above and beyond by visiting our table on several occasions even offering to take our photos for us. He gave us a bit of history about this location, sharing that it was the first Saltgrass restaurant ever in the city and other tidbits. He made my official go to Saltgrass Restaurant here on out. Another restaurant that is hurting itself by not having attentive and trained servers. Food was very good as always, but the service experience was totally lacking. Usually above average service is expected when visiting a Steak House, but this visit will make me consider other options next time. Nothing worse than having a server that just "takes orders", has little interaction with the guests, and is always in a hurry when they do stop by your table. Server failed in the "steps of service", "speed of service", and "table manicuring". Our Steak, Shrimp, and Salads were very satisfying. We made a reservation for 9 people but had to wait 20 minutes for the table. We were finally sat at a round 6-8 top so it was pretty tight -- they were not ready. Our server was great and the food was good, except for one ribeye that had a lot of fat and gristle. When alerted, management apologized but did not replace the ribeye or take it off the check. We had noted that it was a birthday but no mention of that either. When questioned about the table situation, management told us that we were actually seated at a round 9-top table, but considering the squeeze I doubt it. My wife and I ordered two sirloin steak dinners, medium well. When we received the entrees the steaks were way over cooked, almost charred and full of fat and gristle. Manger came and offered a free desert, we did not eat any of the steak or side items. Manger said she would take care of it. Received the bill and she comped $20.00. Told the waitress that we were not taking any of the food and we are not paying for it. The bill was taken care of but we still had to pay $8.00 for teas. If you visit this location I would advise sitting in the bar as opposed to main dining. My last visit resulted in an absolute disaster. I ordered a 9 ounce filet and and still don't know what I received. The meat was tough, fatty and over cooked. I had the steak taken back and received a similar grade of meat. The manager came by and I made him aware of my concerns. I told him my moms steak turned out great and asked them to simply replicate what they did for her. Once again I wait for my 3rd steak to-go because at this point my family have finished their meals. The photo below is what I received from the manager. A horrible and tough piece of meat I wouldn't even give my dog. As a manger he should have never let that steak leave the kitchen and he did it twice and did not seem that deeply concerned about our horrible experience. Because of that night my family told me there are too many good steak houses in Houston and have no intentions of ever returning to Saltgrass. Needless to say, I left the steak on an empty stomach and proceed to Union Kitchen on Memorial where I had a much more pleasant experience. Please note the Saltgrass location in Katy is a completely different experience. The staff is attentive and the Managment visit each table to ensure everyone's experience is of satisfaction. Recommend Wendy as a server! She was exceptional. Had the prime rib, which was really good. The mashed potatoes are amazing. These aspects of the dinner deserve 5 stars! Ordered a wedge salad and the lettuce was clearly old. Sent it back and got a slightly fresher cut of iceberg - but still not what I would consider quality. Would definitely go again, but i hope the kitchen staff and management see this review and improve on the produce quality and attention to detail (check your food before you serve it). My wife had a steak salad, and she really enjoyed it. The veggies in her salad were fine. So it must have just been old iceberg lettuce. Meh... so a few weeks ago I went to the location in the Heights off of I-10, and I was very impressed if you look at my review there I got the steak salad sub salmon and the grand sangria. OMG! Excellent. But this location not so much, the sangria here was very watery and not fruity flavored. The salad was okay I actually got the steak this time and they only gave me a few pieces in my salad. I sent the sangria back to get it remade, and the manager brought it out to me and place it on my table and walked away he didn't even say anything. Food is always delicious! No complaints about that! Came in on a Sunday afternoon for dinner and had a wait time of about 20 min, ended up waiting 40 min. Never got a text, I had to go and ask the host. The Host was skipping people. A couple walked in while we were waiting and in 10 min they were seated. If you want to get seated sit inside, and make sure you keep asking the host because you'll be waiting for hours. read more

Overall it was a great experience and very good food. We visited during lunch and had a RSVP because we had 18 people in our party. We were seated pretty quick. Salad bar was great, salmon was great. My only feedback is at the end we had about 11 or so people who had to go items and we had one server. I guess he has to box up your food you can't do it. Just think how long that would take! He felt that if we did it ourselves he would get fired. I felt sorry for him that he felt that way. There were some that wanted desert as well so he would have to clear the table, box the food, then being the desert tray. Again this is lunch time 18 people and one server. We should have been there until dinner time. We boxed our own food and it appears that the head server came over to help him clear the tables. My suggestion is loosen up on the policy so your employees don't feel they are going to get fired if the customer wants to box their own food. Particularly when the customer is okay with packing their food themselves. I do recommend and will be back to visit. read more

I like a good steak any day. Especially...a ribeye! I enjoyed this resto one evening during the week. I was surprised at how crowded it was. It was happy hour, but there were also lots of families just having dinner. I've said for the longest that I prefer a SG steak over many premium restos because of the flavor. I reserved a table for 8 at the original Saltgrass on Katy Fwy and had the worst dining experience in my life. And because this restaurant is so good, it was a little shocking to me. I lived in Houston many years ago and this restaurant was always my go-to for a single dinner or a party of 20. Amazing place with great food. In fact, I created training materials for the financial sector throughout California and used a similar name to Saltgrass as a business scenario. That's how much I've always loved Saltgrass. I reserved our table a few weeks in advance and asked the restaurant to make it special--two of my brothers were diagnosed with terminal brain disorders and I was flying in alone from California, to celebrate my middle brother's 50th--knowing he will not be the same person this time next year. I explained this to Wendy, our server and had one request--a small cake and great service. While Wendy started off strong, something changed throughout the dinner. We hadn't even ordered our food and Wendy was trying to sign us up for Saltgrass membership. When we politely told her, "no, thank you," she continued trying to push membership on us instead of fulfilling our order requests. I found myself stopping servers for water or refills. When Wendy finally returned, my brother (the birthday boy) was in the middle of sharing a story with the table. Wendy felt that was a good time to kneel down to two of our guests and start talking about the membership again. (Keep in mind--everyone's meals had arrived except my brother's. Still, we were patient.) After the third membership push, my friend, sympathetic to my brother's, said to Wendy, "Hey, we're trying to celebrate this man and he's in the middle of a story. Can you please stop pushing this on us?" That's when Wendy aggressively stood up and stormed off. We didn't see her again until I was forced to ask two mangers to help. We had finished our dinners, glasses had been empty...for TWENTY minutes. No Wendy. It was then that my brother leaned over and said, "I know you wanted this to be special for me. I'm just sorry we came here." That's when I approached two managers two different times to have the cake brought to our table. When Wendy returned to the table, after her leave of absence, she took the cake, slammed it on the table, and stormed off...no plates, utensils, or even a knife to cut the cake. (Sigh) Once again, I had to get someone to assist us and it took everything for me not to cry--not because of the horrible service, but because this was likely my brother's final birthday as, even a partial version of himself. The one thing Wendy did correctly...the bills. And she made sure the charge was there for that cake. My complaint was responded to by the manager, John. He apologized and offered--wait for it--a $30 gift card to Saltgrass or Landry's. We spent $500 on a failed dinner. Unbelievable. read more

Yay, I finally found a great chicken fried chicken place! Tender, juicy, flavorful, and HUMONGOUS portions: Two gigantic chicken fried chicken breast filets, plus mashed potatoes, plus a salad, plus another side -- all comes with your meal -- for $15! I haven't ever tried Saltgrass Steakhouse because of the 3 star rating but my friends wanted to go after church, and I am so glad I did. My only regret is that I didn't take a photo to show you, but I will try to exercise a *little* self-discipline and shoot a photo before taking my first bite next time. Food use to be consistent here. What happened? Chicken Salad lettuce was mostly white with hints of green. Not fresh and tasteless...other people's mini salad wasn't fresh either. You know when the lettuce in your fridge starts turning white and hardens, you throw it away? Here, they serve it to you with a smile. There are times when chains fail and times when they succeed. Success at this location goes by the name of Wendy; our lovely waitress who made the evening spectacular. Wendy was prompt and lovely, keeping the conversation going but the service fast and accurate. Parking is of course ample - it's a large steak chain after all. Self park only - no valet. Located right on the side of I-10 so conveniently. Just becuase its a chain doesn't mean it's not a steakhouse. This joint will run you a hefty bill if you let it. For the cheapest cut of steak and a fruity drink I paid upwards of $40 (including tip). The best way to have steak is of course to do it yourself at home, the second best way is at saltgrass. The wagon boss top sirloin comes with a side of soup or salad and another side on top of that. I had the garlic mashed potatoes which were lovely and creamy. As well as a ranch side salad - the ranch is creamy but light and the salad comes with a nice helping of thickly shredded cheddar which hits the spot. The steak itself, although ordered medium, was of course overcooked and overseasoned. It also seemed a little grey and not fresh. Bread and butter are complimentary - a soft round roll that pulls apart easily and a fluffy honey infused butter to go with. read more

Family dinner, 2 children and 4 adults. I had ordered a "medium" filet and when I received it, it was over-cooked, actually almost well done. I let the hostess know and she promptly put in an order for a replacement. The manager stopped by to apologize and the replacement steak was great. So what was my problem? Well, we paid cash for the bill and I was busy calculating the tip so I really didn't pay any attention to the items listed. When I got home, I looked at it and I was charged twice for the filet! So 2 filets at $25.99 each! $25.99 for the one returned to the kitchen and $25.99 for the replacement! Lesson learned! Watch those receipts closely!! read more

But... it's a pretty big deal to me when they mess up the orders for about half of the party. Now normally not a big deal, but the guy was like arging with me...no you ordered this. I was like no...I didn't...and he goes well you must have ordered it wrong because your friend also said the wrong name. I was like...no... Like should I have to repeat myself multiple times even though I know I only ever get prime rib...? We continue to return to this Saltgrass at least once every 3 months as it is the easiest place to get to for my family spread throughout Houston. Seeing as 3 stars is generous for this establishment, I may want to consider finding a new meeting place. Here's my reasons why. 1. I have NEVER been here and had an entire order served as ordered. Whether it be a drink or entree there is always something incorrect (and I order exactly from the menu, no deviating from the menu). 2. Whether there is a wait for a table or not, the service is always slow. This past visit we waited for around 20 minutes just to get a check after they started picking up plates. 3. Food is just ok.... 12/14/24 DO NOT GO THERE!!! My husband and I went to celebrate our anniversary, hosts asked for my name and cell number and said we'd get a text when our table would be ready because it would take 15 minutes to get a table. I said, that's fine , we'll be at the bar which is 5 feet from her. After my 2nd drink at the bar, 35 minutes , I went and asked her what was taking so long because it had been 35-40 min by now. The host said to me, I text you and called your name. I said, where and how? On a speaker ? Microphone? We never heard her say a word!!! She ended up seating us down . We order and Our steaks and sides were cold and I'm just besides myself . My husband is saying don't say anything . Well, it's too late!!! Manager comes by and brings my hot steak and side but my husband decides to keep his mouth shut. So then the manager says, would you like anything else, and my husband says, I would like a beer, please. 30 minutes go by. I finish my steak and no beer comes through. After we pay and leave the restaurant we are in traffic, 30 minutes go by and I get a text from the restaurant that my table is ready.!!!!!!!! Wtf??????
