I had arrived in town for work and needed to grab food before heading to the hotel. Never having been to Saltgrass, and since the restaurant was right next to my hotel, I figured that I'd pop in to see a menu and order dinner. I was not greeted with a "hello" or "how are you". So, behind my mask and with a Lysol wipe in hand, I asked to place a to-go order. She said I'd have to call and order. Confused, I said "I'm not familiar with your menu and I just arrived to town. I just want to order dinner." She handed me a menu and preceded to stare at me while I scanned the menu. Feeling awkward, I quickly made a choice and she cut me off insisting that I call the current location I was at to place my order. She offered the number but I refused and walked out knowing the number was on several signs outside. I called while jumping into my car to locate a bathroom since I was obviously unwelcome at a location that was allowing dine-in customers. I was placed on HOLD for almost 5 minutes! Eventually, I located another location to pick up food and save some money and time. DON'T recommend until things get back to normal or they determine a better way of handling pickup orders. read more

There were 3 in our party and we waited at least 25 minutes. We noticed at least 10 tables open when walking to bathrooms. When we confronted the manager he told us they were understaffed which completely pathetic and unacceptable considering it is very popular. read more

The wait was long so we decided to sit in the lounge area, thought this would help. After a bit we were greeted by an extremely nice waitress who was so helpful. We were tended several times again by the very nice waiters and bar tender. After ordering we waited for what seemed to be forever! As we sat the waitress, bar tender, and the floor manager greeted us several times telling us it would be just 5 more min, 2 more min, etc., about 15-20 later, after waiting for more than an hour and 20 min out food came! We ordered 3 different steaks which were all over cooked! The mashed potato were cold on the outside and boiling hot on the inside indicating being microwaved, the shredded Brussels sprouts looked to be cooked, heated, and re-heated, tastes Terrible! The fried shrimp was also soggy and cold, which indicates that they were cooked first then sat! All the whole the staff kept coming and telling us how sorry they were and we could get a free dessert! No thank you! But hey, thanks for the 15% off the bill! Will not return to this location, the food was very bad! Sad that the staff had to make up for the bad experience! Honest review. Wanted to get myself a nice steak tonight and thought I'd give them a try. Was able to sit in the bar area right away without wait and the waitress greeted me friendly and promptly. After debating, I chose the Porterhouse with Caesar salad and steak fries. Also, ordered a Moscow Mule. Moscow Mule came out promptly but was, as one could expect, "watered down". The Caesar came out next and it was good. After about a 10min wait the steak and fries came out. The steak looked nice and had good seasoning. The fries came chopped up in little pieces rather than a whole fry, which is no big deal but they had absolutely no flavor at all! Usually don't have to use ketchup with steak fries but with these I definitely had to. Now for the steak. I ordered medium as most places undercook a little bit, guessing to be on the safe side, but this one was severely undercooked. the outside looked good but it got more rare the closer I got to the bone. The filet side was okay but the loin side had so many tendons it was almost uneatable. I had to chew around the tendons the entire time to separate the meat. At times you just have a bad cut but at least cook it properly. I am not expecting perfection but any place that calls itself a steakhouse need to be able to cook steaks to near perfection. At least, better than I can at home with a cast iron skillet and an oven from 1990. read more

My girlfriend loves this place and dragged me along even though I was skeptical because of the reviews I had read. The inside is nice and more upscale than Texas Roadhouse so that's a plus. My girlfriend's friend is a server there and explained the reason for the sometimes long wait time is because everything is made fresh there. I'm actually not sure if it's true or not but the food has not disappointed one bit. We've been here a couple of times and have always gotten the Pat's 12oz rib eye medium rare. The steak has always come out perfect with the melted butter on top and I've had the loaded mashed potatoes which were great and average mixed steamed vegetables. The baked potato soup was tasty and they give a decent sized bowl. We also decided to try the expensive crab cake appetizer which only comes with 2 but man we loved it. I was quite disappointed after all the hype about this great new place. The customer service was ok, but it was the food that I was looking forward to. The salad had too many brown lettuce pieces, they mixed up our order, the steak was tough and too burned (black) around the edges, and the baked potato was brownish, over cooked and sort of dried out. Went here Thursday for lunch with Mom and Dad for his 78th birthday. Our waitress Alex was awesome; she was friendly and very attentive. The ranch rattlers, jalapeños stuffed with shrimp/ cheese and deep fried were very good. Dad's Long Island Ice Tea and my Kentucky Splash were very good cocktails. Mom's chicken was OK, Dad's chicken fried steak was thin and tough, my 17 ounce Texas T-Bone was perfectly cooked, very tender, but very thin...ok for breakfast or lunch but I ordered off the dinner menu. I would go back for appetizers and drinks but there are much better steakhouses in Lubbock for the money. read more

TERRIBLE!!! We called 2 hours before and got a reservation. We actually got there 30 minutes early and they had LOST our reservation!!!! (They lost the people's behind us also). So we decided to wait anyway, told us it would be an hour. An hour and a half later, when we still hadn't been sat, went and talked to a manager, told him about the lost reservation, he said give us 5 minutes, we have a large table about to turn over and he would get us sat. We sat there and watched that table be cleaned and another party be sat there. So 30 more minutes later we finally just left. TERRIBLE service! Came in for a drink when an extremely rude and unprofessional server/bartender(Lily was her name I believe) approached my bartender and lashed out in a very unprofessional manner. Luckily there were only three guest at the bar to witness this occurrence. If this is how servers act in this establishment I will not be returning. i went to salt grass. The brussel sprouts was chopped up and cooked. It tasted great and was not overcooked. It was well seasoned. The bread was delicious. They offered us some bread to take home. i ate the rest of the bread before served with the meal before I left. I am not sure which type of meat dish it was listed as. My husband and I went there for our anniversary the other night. Our server, Ryan, was great, very friendly. The problem we had was with the quality and freshness of our food. We ordered seafood plates. The food was cold when it came out. Seemed like it had been sitting there since that morning so we sent it back. It came back out, same exact food, was just put in the microwave or something. They tried to cover up the bite we took out of the salmon and it wasn't even any warmer than the first time. I asked to speak with a manager since he hadn't been by to apologize. He comes by apologizes then asks if we would like a to-go box for our food we will NEVER return there! read more

Terrible Experience. Over an hour to get our order for three people. One entree was cold. The waitress was very flippant about it to the point of being rude. Arrived an hour and a half before closing time. The two of us waited at the host stand for 5 minutes before a guy finally notice and came to seat us. After we were seated, we waited 15 minutes and were not greeted by a waiter. There was ample staff and was not very busy at all. My girlfriend and I made the disicion to get up and go somewhere else. Went there for lunch and arrived around 11:45 am, restaurant had an odd funk when I walked into the dining area. It was a combination of bleach, mold, and a wet dog. Not overpowering but something was off. Server came out smelling like Axe body spray, took my drink order, came back with my tea and a loaf of bread, and then went back with my lunch order. 30 minutes later in an restaurant that was MAYBE a quarter full, my chicken fried steak came out by a different wait staff member saying the plate was hot and be careful. Yes, the plate was hot because it was likely sitting under a heat lamp for too long as the gravy on top of the Chicken Fried Steak had a film on it that I could pull off with my fork. At least the steak was good but the steak fries were overcooked and almost dehydrated. The last issue with my server was that I finally had to flag him down to get my check after I had finished eating because he didn't come back by to check and see how I was doing. No offer for a drink to-go, just dropped the check by, picked it up to run the payment, and then off to handle whatever else was keeping him busy after dropping the check off for signing. Won't be heading back as there are other places in Lubbock that don't have an odd funk, won't keep you waiting even when slammed with customers and an hour wait for seating, and get food out hot and fresh. read more

On 11/5, my boyfriend and I were told there would be a 1 hour wait on a table for 2. Due to the length of time, we decided to leave and have dinner elsewhere. Your business was not noticeably busy and upon our entrance there was not ONE, but TWO couples exiting Saltgrass. I called about 10 minutes after leaving and spoke to the assistant manager and informed me that there was NO wait. I am pleased to say we enjoyed our dinner at The Plaza Restaurant and will not be returning to Saltgrass again. read more

We have been to this one in Lubbock twice and will not be going back. Both times we found the food was good, not great but ok for a chain steak house. The service however has just been noting short of pathetic. We have dined many many times at Saltgrass Steak houses in McKinney and Round Rock and other places and have always enjoyed the food, sometimes more and other times less. But the service has always been decent if not great at all the other places besides Lubbock. I don't know who manages that place but from the looks of it, there is a situation where the waiters think they can pretty much do as little as they want and still get a tip. Today the server was clearly impressed with himself and cared little about us! The manager came and apologized for cold soup and the extra long time it took ( about 30 minutes ) to serve two salads and two soups for lunch, but did not offer to comp anything - even the overpriced $2.50 glass of water down so called iced tea!! I believe they have weak or no leadership there and the result is perfectly awful service. So even though the food is not bad at all, I will not be returning to Saltgrass Lubbock, very sadly. This place is needed in a market where there is such a void of good steak houses with a good bar. I sure wish I could provide a much better review, but it is just not possible at this time. read more

The food is delicious with meat that melts in your mouth. The waiter (Michael) started out nice until I told him I ordered Pat's Rib Eye and not Prime Rib. He literally said, "That's why I asked you if you wanted to Prime Rib and you said yes." Before I could tell him that conversation never took place he snatched the plate and left. My daughter and I looked confused at each other and said, "That conversation never took place and I don't believe I even saw the word Pat in front of Prime Rib." I was quickly annoyed but let it go. The manager brought over the Rib Eye and asked, "At first glance how does it look?" This made me wonder if Michael told him I didn't like the way the Prime Rib looked rather than he made a mistake. We never saw Michael again until he brought the check. He never offered desert or anything but instead went to the front and talked to the hostess. Had the free meal today, ahi tuna and tortilla soup, both were excellent, and service was eager and timely. Best seafood I've had this far west bar none. Pretty good even compared to the food in Tampa, not quite the same due to the distance from water, but color me impressed for the effort. Met up with the girls for happy hour on a Friday evening. The happy hour specials are awesome and the appetizers were delicious. But unless you're a guy sitting at the bar you're not going to get very good service if any at all from the blonde ponytail bartender. Ended up getting a table and while the happy hour specials are only at the bar I'd rather pay the extra money for drinks than be ignored because me and the company I keep are not males. Have eaten at several other Saltgrass locations before and have usually been pleased. Not so much here. We arrived and were seated. Ordered some beers. Once they finally arrived we ordered dinner. My wife ordered a well done cheeseburger. Our friend and myself ordered well done steaks. When the meals finally arrived the burger was cooked as ordered. Our friends steak was also cooked as ordered. My steak wasn't even close to medium. Our server came back after several minutes at which time I sent my steak back. A manager (?) stopped by and apologized for the issue and told me if would be about another four minutes before my steak came out. By the time it did arrive both my wife and friend had finished their meals. Not a good experience at all. No offer was made to comp anything for the issue which was unacceptable. I am a retail manager myself and have a pretty good understanding of customer service. Apparently the management at Saltgrass just don't care about customer service. Probably won't be returning to this location. read more

Thank God my meal was on someone else's dime. We took ten people for lunch for Administrative Assistant Day, largely on how well people spoke of eating at this chain in Houston or Dallas. Only one person liked the place and even the one who recommended it was disappointed. The food was seriously over-priced for both the quality and the quantity. They have this weird service practice of bringing a bunch of servers over to the table, arguing over who gets what, and then they do this "unison" reach over thing. In our case, one side of the table (five people) got their meals first, then it was almost ten minutes before the other half of the table got theirs. As for my lunch, I ordered the baby back ribs with sweet potato fries. The fries were good, but average and cold. The ribs probably were good before they were thrown on the grill and "crusted" to a lovely black color. The ribs were not very meaty and mostly connective tissue. All this for $12.99. The person next to me got the prime rib, which was served cold and was one of the fattiest cuts I have seen. There are much better steak places in Lubbock, at a better value, and less pretentious. Even if someone else is paying, I am not going back. read more

The Salmon Salad was very good and the drinks were decent. The service really needs to step up here for the money you are going to spend. The atmosphere wasn't appealing and seemed too loud to me. Ribeye was not served hot and had a weird texture to it. It was like eating smooth yogurt with a meat flavor. I tasted what seemed like meat tenderizer. One manager touched our table and I told her the meal was ok but not great. She brought in another person to talk to us and we were told the meat should have been order medium well if we wanted a pink middle and got offended when I told him that the meat should continue to cook on the plate if it was served hot. By the time it was cold the meat was still red. Strange huh? His crappy attitude will end my visits here. I've eaten at other Saltgrasses and they were much better than this. Don't waste your money. Went today Sunday May 22 & waited on a table around 15min. We are seated, one waitress gets us water & bread. She tells us tori(?) will be right with us. Our waitress was trying to work with a table of ladies & I suppose a lot of visiting was going on. the people behind us, who were seated after us, got their drinks, appetizers & salads before we even got our order turned in. Both of us had the same waitress. We waited, waited & waited some more. Finally waitress comes to the table, take our order. No busy talk, no chit-chat like with the other customers she was taking care of. Go another 20 min waiting on our salad. Salad shows up. absolutely nothing special about this salad...and a teaspoon of dressing is not enough for any reg size salad..Just an FYI. Another 20min passes & our food appears. Waitress is not around. Staff served both plates...not a problem. I ordered grilled chicken...moist & tender, but not a lot flavor from the grill. Baked potato was perfect. Partner's meal was a steak & it was OK, (according to him). Our waitress seemed to be busying herself with other customers & we felt rushed once she took our plates from the table. No thank you for coming in. No "How was everything?" from her. To be honest, my wife & I felt slighted, watching her interact with everyone around us. who knows what wait-staff think. We were friendly enough, but she came to our table maybe twice & the last time was to leave the check. We will not be going back. read more

The food is great and all the people that complained have to put in account that everyone there is new and learning the recipes so it's not going to be perfect. So go back in a few months and experience the true goodness of salt grass. Quit judging it to other salt grasses that have been open for more then a year. Of course it's not going to be as good, you don't have people who have been working there for years everyone there are still in training. It's better than any other restaurants in Lubbock now just wait a month or two when the people there are trained. You won't go to any other streak house because not only the food is great but you'll have the best service you'll have at any other restaurant. The people in the back are all about guest first, so if it takes a while to get your food is because they want it perfect before it reaches your table . They know how much you are paying a plate so they want it perfect when it gets to your table. So remember that everyone there is trying to give you the food that you are paying for, for the people that know that salt grass is a place that you want to go to if you want high end food . It's a place you want to take a date to because everything there is made from scratch it's like you are paying for a homemade meal every time you go and order from there. What I'm trying to say is that it just open so don't judge it so harsh. I've worked at a salt grass in Dallas and like other salt grasses they are proud of the food they send out. read more
