I love coming to Saltgrass for the food. I've never had an issue with anything I've ordered, but I've had issues with the staff. I recently ordered off Grubhub, and when I came to get my order I noticed my salad had almost no cheese when I paid for extra cheese. I proceeded to tell the lady who gave me my order, and she said that I had to pay for the extra cheese. I told her I had already paid for it and she gave me a mean look, went to the back and got the cheese, came back and slammed it on the bar counter and left without saying anything or acknowledging me. We had tried to eat at this franchise in San Antonio but couldn't get in. Fortunately as we headed through Tx on our way home we spent the night in Lubbock. We were seated immediately as it was a little early and our server was just awesome. Ask to be seated in Jacey's area if you can. From the fried pickles and peppers to the Cajun steak everything was over the top goodness. Nice atmosphere and the bartender makes one of the best dirty martinis I've ever had. I always get the tbone, but ive been on this healthy kick latley so i got the red fish, which was very very good. but if you go to salt grass for the first time GET THE TBONE it is soooo good, and the bacon wrapped, stuffed quail apettizer is a must! Negative 1 stars. POC will be sat in the side room away from the main dining area and get the slowest service available. A medium rare steak took over an hour for it not to come out. We've eaten at the Amarillo location several times and never had a problem with service or food quality, yet this is the second (and last) visit wheee we've had to return our steaks because of being overdone; this after waiting almost two hours for our food. When this location first opened it was great all the way around. The last two times we have visited it has been pretty bad. Biggest complaints are wait time to receive meal and improperly/overcooked food. My husband and I both ordered filets cooked medium with a side of coconut shrimp . One hour and 20 minutes later the steaks arrived VERY WELL DONE. Sent them back and waited quite another 30 minutes - while the shrimp sat on the table getting cold. Went in tonight for a baby shower of about 20 people. We waited over an hour for our food which is expected with that big of a party. My issue is that when we eventually got our food everything was cold. All of the entrees, the starter soups, and the appetizers were room temperature. I have no issues waiting on my food but at a place that is as expensive as Saltgrass, I expect my food to not come out lukewarm. My crab cakes were mostly breading even though it says they are jumbo lump crab (they are not!) and my Mac and cheese was completely congealed due to the lack of warmth. To top it off, the manager came in many times to look around but never asked anyone if they were happy with their food or acknowledged anyone at all. This is the worst Saltgrass location I have ever been to. Keep your money and go to McDonald's, it would be money better spent. read more

I am a huge fan of Salt Grass. I started eating at the restaurant in the DFW area when I lived there and it was always top notch. Then moved to Midland and loved it there as well. You can't imagine my inner child giddiness when I found out they were coming to Lubbock! Every visit in Lubbock has been great which is a relief. I've read some of the yelp reviews (no doubt from someone that has been one time, something was amiss and that prompted a 1 or 2 star review) and I was a bit worried it would fall by the wayside. Fortunately, The food is on point and the service is great! The atmosphere is the same rustic steakhouse look they all have. This was by far one of the worst experiences we had at a restaurant. We had a big party 14 people. We were crammed into tables like sardines, no arm room, no room on the table to put anything. Eventually we asked for an additional table so that we could have some more room. To add we made a reservation, so this was not like a last minute walk in. We ordered several different cocktails. We ordered pineapple Margarita's that were extremely small, we asked if we could have it the same size as a normal Margarita, they said yes we just had to pay for an extra shot...no problem...till the bill came. They charged $11 for the Margarita and an additional $12 for a premium shot. Not one person at our table asked for a premium shot. Just to add that ended up being $23 for a margarita. We also ordered the Kentucky smash for $9.50, it was small, overly sweet, and full of ice. Not worth the money we paid. It seemed that we waited forever for our food, we waited over an hour just for our food. No apology from the kitchen, nothing from management, there was nothing. Once we received our food it was mixed reviews. We ordered the 22oz porterhouse for $33. Once received I will say the steak was amazing, however, it was definitely not close to a 22oz steak it was really small. Some others had other steaks, the precision of the cooks on the steaks were mixed. Some were perfect others were like beef jerky, some food was hot, others had cold food. At some point in time people were just ready to get out of there so the continual complaining was not worth it. The server was really good but once again it was one person to help a 14 party and she had additional tables on top of ours. This will never be a place that we will go back to or a place that we would recommend to anyone else. I would stay clear of this place. read more

Steak was excellent, good service we shared a main meal the server took it upon themselves to divide which was a nice gesture but we don't share equally it was unnecessary wish they would have asked since the food was not very hot possibly due to the time it took to divide. When I go to a restaurant, I expect a good well rounded experience. When we got to Saltgrass, we were told that it would be a 15 minute wait for a table for 2. Not a problem... until around 10 minutes in a group of 2 comes in requesting they be seating promptly so they can take advantage of the early bird special. They were seated immediately. We then waited another 5 minutes for our table to be ready. Once seated, we waited 10 minutes for our waitress to come by and acknowledge that we were there. By this time of course we were ready to order. She quickly took our drink order, then scurried off to talk with other wait staff. She came back by two more times before taking our order. That would sum up our experiences with the waitress. Another wait staff brought the food out, and we had a small pitcher on the table to refill out own drinks. Fortunately, the steak and shrimp I got was good, or this would have been a total bust. Service and atmosphere really kills the star rating here. Big time disappointment. I have eaten at Saltgrass restaurants all over Texas, and this was by far the worst experience I have had at one. read more

Why is it every time I come here the service gets worse and worse? The food is great which is why I come back but my wife and I came here to have dinner. While we were seated waiting for our appetizers which was a salad, we noticed that those around us came in, were seated had there appetizers and meals faster then we could get our salads. REALLY? Finally those customers would leave and another batch came in. Guess who's still waiting for dinner? Between both our salads and dinner finally came out but it was a 15-20min wait for both. I had the prime rib, medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly with a great smoky flavor. My wife had the pork chop, which they smoke for two hours then finish on the grill to your desired temperature. It's a double-thick cut, bone in, and it tasted great. My daughter had the chicken fried chicken, and it was really tender with a very flavorful breading. The service was great, I really like the atmosphere, and I could drink those Kentucky Smashes all day every day. I'm giving this five stars because I think, for the money, this is as good a steakhouse as you'll find. Great environment and this was my First time going and the food was amazing! A friend is part of their rewards club and so we only waited maybe 15 mins for a table at 6pm. So if you get a chance sign up for the rewards and your wait time is cut short. Got the chicken fried steak and it was great! Service was great. I would never eat there again. I took my interracial family (6 of us) here and we set there for a while, server just huddle and started to stare at our table and disbursed. We figure out who our server was because she was serving other customer that came in before and after us while giving us dirty looks. Have it all on video; was recording. Manager came over and said they was in the middle of a shift change. A server from another section came over to wait on us and said he felt bad that we did not get waited on. He took our order and never came back because he was attending to his section. As we ate, still recording, we was the only table in the server section that was not hers. I am in the food industry in Lubbock and understand being short handed and not being able to find right people to stand on your standard but management as well? Total post reservation time wait was thirty minutes. The manager said they were confused because there were two 10 tops with the same name. I'm not certain that is correct. Then they didn't have the gluten free menu we had asked about when making the reservations the day before. Basically we were within about two minutes of leaving. Had a late lunch with DH and both his steak and my chicken were very good. He had his steak smothered in the onions and mishrooms. Salads were typical restaurant salads but the dressing(blue cheese) was a little weak. Baked potato was very good bit the baked sweet potato was over done a a little mushier than it should have been. Had chocolate cake for dessert and it tasted bland and dried out. Cake was the least favorite part of the meal. The real downer was upon entering the restaurant all of the staff was standing in the back and we were about to leave as we stood there for several minutes with no one adknowledging us, but we walk to the back of the restaurant and asked to be seated. We just had our third meal there. The first time was amazing - the food and the service were A+. Second time the food was good but service was horrible. This was our last trip. I ordered the chicken and ribs. I couldn't get a knife into the "fall off the bone" ribs. The server offered fresh ribs but took my whole plate (I still had chicken and sweet potato fries to eat). Only my second time to eat here and I can't give enough praise for the crab cakes! I'm in love....they are sooooo good. I ordered the steak and cake and it was beyond delicious. Steak was so tender and flavorful. The crab cake was magical. We even ordered the appetizer of crab cakes for extras!
