Service is friendly, food is good, and the portions are very generous. I've tried the pizzas several times and they're pretty decent, and the other dinner options have been great as well. Honestly, I have eaten at both Sam and Joe's and Calitri's dozens of times, and have never had anything at either place that I thought was more than just OK. EXCEPT for the pizza. Their pizza is really good, and is in my opinion the only reason to go there. I always order my pizzas "well-done", and they come out crispy (not burnt) and delicious. If you want good Italian pasta, antipasto, calamari , osso bucco etc, go to Donatello, but for pizza in Danvers, Sam and Joe's has the best. Also, Calitri's pizza is supposed to be the same, but for some reason tends to be greasy...go with Sam and Joe's and just order ahead and go to the Take-out window in the back. read more

We went to Sam and Joe's last night in Danvers. We had not been here for about 10 years. The parking lot is an accident waiting to happen. There is barely enough room to turn around without backing into another car. I agree with other reviews about the waitress staff having no enthusiasm for their job. Our son is extremely allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. The waitress had no knowledge nor did the kitchen staff about allergies. She acted inconvenienced when asked to check. She commented that given the high occurence of allergies these days they should list out the information but they really cant say for sure. I got the chicken brocolli and ziti meal and the pasta was very watered down. The prices were high for what you got. I would not go there again based on the way it was run. All other restaurants I have been to send a manager or a kitchen head out to talk to you when you have allergies. This place did not seem to care at all or be up with the times. As for this restaurant it is way over rated in the italian cooking, Seems to me it is all canned food and cooked in a microwave .We went on a friday night it was busy I dont no why? One of a few local-yocal spots my boyfriend and I hit up every now and again. The pizza is thin and crunchy, and always served pipping hot! The bar has a variety of beers on tap and a decent cocktail list. Service is always friendly, and a good place to unwind during the week. read more

One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. Started off with a drink that the bartender was unsure to make although it was featured on the drink list. Not a big deal. For our second drink my friend and I both ordered a vodka soda, it came to us as a vodka water. Upon him dropping it off we corrected him, and he gave us soda water on the side. We did not drink it and pushed it to the edge of the bar and said that we did not want it but rather a vodka soda, he only offered to give us more soda water on the side. Annoyed, we payed the bill and went to the hostess desk and asked to speak the manager. We waited about 10 minutes for the manager to come over and we asked the blonde waitress on duty again if we could speak to him. She got angry and clapped in our face that he was indisposed and would be out when he can. We will never be back and recommend that if it is your first time there, to go somewhere else read more

My significant other & I go to Sam & Joe's every wed. We love the salad and the roasted red pepper & mushroom pizza that we always get. We have always been very very satisfied with our food. Our waitress is always very attentive, helpful and very very pleasant. We love Sam & Joe's and we think it is a wonderful dining experience. Really can't say enough for our waitress as she is so cheerful, helpful and such a joy to be around. Give it a try, you might feel the same as we do!!!!! read more

Food was really good however the service was AWFUL!!!! The waitress totally forgot 4 of our salads and two of us were left waiting for our shrimp scampi pizza while everyone else was eating. Server was not attentive enough! I must say that my pre-dinner shot of Maker's Mark was quite ample-probably 3 shots of whiskey at least. I really wanted that salad before my pizza tho! Don't go in for late night pizza, the bartenders is unfriend and unprofessional. She acts like your are a total nuisance and can't believe you came in at 11.15 for pizza, but they serve until midnight. Never getting food here again! From what I've read it seems that Sam and Joe's is an OK place to go for pizza, but that's about it. We're pretty new to Danvers and had never tried this place before. Whoever wrote the menu did a great job of making everything sound delicious. My husband ordered chicken marsala and I ordered the chicken roma. We also got an order of fried calamari and garlic bread. After dropping $45 dollars on dinner you would expect it to be tasty...wrong! The chicken marsala had no hint of marsala wine, the mushrooms were barely cooked and they topped it with a sliced ham steak. Gross. The veal was gray and tough and of course, totally flavorless. The chicken roma had no artichokes and raw bits of tomato tossed in a flavorless pile of ziti that was drowned in olive oil. NO garlic or white wine sauce as described in the menu. I had to call and complain about the food, something I have never done before in my entire life so it had to be pretty bad. The woman on the phone didnt seem surprised as I was describing the flavorless food and she put me on the phone with the owner who insisted on sending me a gift card, which I got in the mail today but will never use. read more

Went there last night with a group of 8. The maitre d appeared to have a stick up his butt no people skills what so ever! Then we get to the waitress....my 90yr old grandfather has more pep in his step and a personality (and all he can talk about is old war stories). As far as waitresses goes ours should not. When you are afraid to ask for anything....as little as napkins or have to call her back for more drinks just not right. I even had to go to the bar to get our table some water! Everyone talks about the pizza there. I am sorry,I can not get myself to pay 10-15 bucks for what looked like a BAR pizza (from what I could see from other tables). So we all opted for the Italian food. The food was not bad, but no Cassa Dedluca (Beverly). Good thing for great company that was the best of the evening. If you plan on going I certainallly recommed sitting at the bar. The bartender seemed to be the ONLY friendly and courteous person there. Certainally will not be returning there any time soon!! Not worth the rude peoplefor the ok food. May be a "Hidden Gem" for the food, just don't expect even 1/2 a decent personality from the maitre d or wait staff. After reading several reviews for Sam and Joe's, we decided to try the pizza when we were in the area. I was hesitant because of a few comments in the reviews, but we went anyway. And I have to say, do not waste your time or money. The pizza is mediocre at best, the pies are VERY small (not small for large pizzas, just SMALL), and for $13.99 for a two topping pizza, I would like something that does not so closely resemble a Mama Celeste's frozen pizza. This is not thin crust, it is cracker crust. A thin crust pizza should still have a doughy end, and this crumbled like the aforementioned cracker. We had eggplant and onion, cheese, and hot pepper and sausage. The eggplant pieces were so small there was barely any meat, but the other topings were decent enough. In fact, if it was not for the hot peppers, I don't think the pizza would have had any flavor at all. For two pizzas, a draught, a coke, and a side salad (white day-old lettuce with glutenous dressing), we coughed up $44 with tip. A huge rip off. Go get some REAL pizza at Regina's in the North End or Franco's in Waltham and save yourself the heartburn. read more

Last night I took my Wife and Daughter to Sam and Joe's. They had been there once before, it was my first time. Our waitress was nice, as she should have been with two other tables filled, and at least a dozen empty. We ordered chicken fingers for my four year old, she refused to eat them as they tasted like they were packed and shipped in salt. My wife had ravioli, tasteless and under cooked. I ordered the stuffed sole from the specials menu. THE FISH WAS BAD! I took a few bites, and with much hesitation asked the waitress to send back. By that point I was pretty disgusted and I panic ordered my own chicken fingers ( as I had not tried my daughters). I did not eat those either, nor did I eat the french fries which tasted like they were made half an hour before I asked for them. NOW for the best part. The bill came, THE MANAGER CHARGED ME $4.29 for the salad that came with the fish, because I sent the fish back. Wow. I have been in customer service for over 20 years, this was the WORST experience I have had in quite a while. DO NOT EAT HERE!!! GO ANYWHERE ELSE! If the manager is to read this, I hope the $4.29 was worth it. I will now have to tell everyone in Danvers not to eat here. read more

We had just finished at the RMV in the mall and my wife had a craving for pizza. Our 2 girls did not protest. I did a search on my phone and based on the reviews and the fact that it was a eat-in restaurant we chose Sam & Joe's. We were "greeted" by a older woman who said "Two?" from about a 1/3 of the way into the dining room. It took a moment to realize she was talking to us. I informed her there were 4 of us. We were then sat next to the only other diners in the dining room. They were finishing their "dining experience", but really. The dispirited waitress then took our order for an antipasto and a couple of large pizzas. She then informed us they only come in one size. While waiting for our meal, we were "entertained" by (who I believe to be) the owner behind the bar, spouting off this views of this and that. Upon on delivery of the food we became enlightened to the "one size", medium at best. After refilling our drinks, the waitress disappeared into the bar area until we were practically done with our food. The pizza itself was good, but due to the lousy dining experience and the small portions, especially for the price, we will not be going back. read more

Awful service in dining room and terribly bland food. Went last friday night at 5pm as we had our 83 yr old mother with us, so to avoid the rush & get better service - that didn't happen. Our waitress wasn't rude, but she all but ignored us - much more interested in friends at another table and being non exsistant. Mom wanted a second glass of wine with dinner and it took 4 attempts to finally get her attention (and it wasn't that busy). By the time the wine came dinner was over and we were ready to leave, so she didn't enjoy it. The food was as bland as bland gets!!! I had the "special" chicken piccata which was plain pasta and plain chicken with some oil, lemons and some capers underneath - none of these flavors were blended or cooked into the food (I took most of it home & doctored it up). My mom, sister, and brother in law all agreed regarding thier bland meals. I dipped some bread in the light colored creamy pink sauce (definitely not a vodka sauce - not sure what tho) over my sisters raviolis - I agreed with her - very blah. Four meals, four glasses of house wine and a non alchoholic beer came to over $100- which would have been perfectly fine if the food was good and we were treated like valuable customers. Several years ago I ate at the bar, had pizza which was good and service was better - but don't bother going here with SO MANY OTHER PLACES TO CHOOSE FROM....it's a waste of time & money. read more
