I went to the new brick and mortar location in West Austin this weekend and I can't give this place enough praise. We walked in and were seated immediately at a corner booth over looking the street. The giant windows have so much sunlight into our area making it feel so cozy as the candle was lit on the table. The vibes are fancier for a pizza place making it such a cool experience. The staff were all so incredible with suggestions. Our items all came out very quickly. When I tell you this place blew me away, it truly did just that. Everything from the restaurant, to the decor, to the service was amazing. The restaurant is in a great location, decorated like an italian cafe, and great music playing. The service is unmatched, Alan, Max and Jo were all so attentive and amazing. Alan gave us great recommendations on apps and his favorite pizza combo (Vodka pizza with sausage and serranos) and Mac and Jo recommended the amazing wine. We were checked on often and they chatted and made us feel so welcome and appreciated. The only reason I ordered from this place was because of Dave Portnoy. We ordered online the wait said 25 min we get a text message 6 min later that it's ready. This pie is 34 dollars. It took us 20 min to arrive. The pie is cold we ask can you just toss in oven we get a no then a well we can make you another one but it's gonna take 30 min now. Uh well you're not busy and with the not so pleasant offer we just took the pizza. It was cold floppy no flavor. I wasted my time, my money and this place has no where to park. Had to pay 6 bucks to a lot near by. 100% pass. Oh I went to ask for napkins and was hit with well how many do you need? Terrible. We all left hungry! I heard about this place opening up and was in the area, so decided to give it a try. We ordered online and it was a pretty easy process. The food was ready right on time (about 20 to 30 minutes). They have a single pizza you can order, with some additional toppings that you can add. We only added pepperoni. The pizza was by far the best pizza we've tried in the Austin area. Really everything about the pizza was great: sauce, cheese, basil and pepperoni. But, the dough was especially good. Okay, I will forever pledge my loyalty to Sammantaro. That's how much I love this pizza! I don't do anything fancy when ordering. Simple cheese pizza and I'm happy for the next few days (it lasts me for a couple meals.) I discovered Sammantaro when they were way out towards hill country/bee caves. I was hesitant to drive there for a lunch time slice, but so glad I did. But now they've moved closer to downtown and YAY. It quickly became my favorite pizza because I love NY style and this is the most authentic in Austin. It's equal parts crispy but soft, the cheese is melted just right so it's not gooey but still stretchy, and the sauce is actually tasty- the things I personally look for in a pizza bite. Never had the rice balls or heard of such a thing but they were a nice surprise. Crispy and creamy with a salty Parmesan sauce that complimented all of the flavors and textures nicely. Hibiscus marg was strong and the bartender didn't just make my drink, he took care and crafted it beautifully. TL;DR: I waited 85 minutes and paid $38 for a burnt pizza with sparse toppings. I like supporting local businesses, but I'm not going back to Sammataro. ------ I almost never write reviews, but this was such disappointing pizza, especially for the price, that I feel compelled to write this. After reading the many glowing reviews about this place, my girlfriend and I were excited to try it. We placed our order online for a sausage, pepperoni, and 1/2 mushroom pizza ($38) at ~7:05pm and were told that it would be 75 minutes. When I arrived 75 minutes later to pick up the pizza, I was told it would be a few minutes more and waited another 10 minutes. As for the pizza, there were large sections of burnt crust and toppings, and the sausage was really sparse. I genuinely wanted to like this place, but there was really nothing exceptional about this pizza. We love supporting local restaurants, but we definitely won't be ordering from Sammataro again. read more

I really, really wanted to love this and was so hyped to be able to get some now that they've moved to the Eastside. The good - amazing crust, love the fresh basil and the homemade ranch. The so so - it was just okay IMO, not better than Desano, Via or Lil Nonnas and significantly more expensive. I found this food truck (now restaurant) from someone's reel on instagram and I was trilled to check it out. We got at the restaurant at 7:20.. when we checked in we were told it'd be a 2 hour wait. We waited the 2 hours just to try this popular pizza spot. Personally the appetizers were okay... we tried the focaccia and the Cacio e Pepe arachini. Both were okay.. I wish the aranchini would have been hotter and the bread simply wasn't as "risen" as I would expect with a facaccia. We tried the vodka pie and that was great! The pizza certainly did not disappoint. We would certainly get pizza to go again but may skip on the apps (I'll give it a try atleast once more before vouching by this!! Haha). We went to the new location off of west 10th on a Thursday night at about 8 pm. We ordered a special, the meatball pizza. It took about 45 minutes for it to come out and the place is very small, was not overcrowded and we didn't wait for a seat. It was $34 and I had high hopes for that price. It barely came with any meatball. While it had a good taste, it was very thin and floppy in the center. 3 of us girls easily ate the entire pie. Used to be my fave pizza in town but I feel the magic formula has changed. Sauce and cheese and char are still excellent but the crust has become cracker thin which is way too thin even for NY style pie. The sammataro from years ago was not this thin. I believe ownership and quality has changed over the years. At the same time prices have crept up way to much. $33 incl tax and standard tip for plain cheese pizza that is no longer perfect has jumped the shark. read more

Fantastic, fresh pizza! I had seen some positive chatter about Sammataro on Instagram, so my husband and I decide to give it a try. So glad we did. All of the ingredients were high quality and fresh. We opted for the white pie, which is topped with ricotta cream, mozzarella, and fresh basil leaves. We also added mushrooms and serrano pepper. I loved the fresh basil leaves, such a refreshing flavor. I also liked the peppers. On their own, they probably would be too spicy for me, but with the ricotta cream, they added just the right amount of spice. The crust was thin, perfect for folding a pizza slice in half. Ordering online was easy. If you want pizza on a Friday or Saturday night, I recommend placing your order earlier in the day to be made later. Otherwise, there can be a 1-2 hour wait.
