Had to try out the austin HYPE pizza and it did not disappoint. I loved the indoor seating area, its very austin vibey. The pizza itself looks and tastes amazing but i didnt get that WOW factor. I feel like the best way to tell if a pizza is unique is by the quality of the cheese, flour(dough), and cooking oven. Everything tasted fresh but it was just like any other pizza i've had. The pizza was $34 which is on the higher end. Will I be back? Yes. Do i think its lifechanging? No. I have heard they change up their menus and have unique pizzas in the summer so i definitely want to come back and give that a try!

Legit pizza in downtown Austin. They have a trailer and separate structure that has limited seating and bathroom inside. There is also plentiful outdoor seating available. The parking situation was confusing a bit. Last time, we parked nearby and walked over. Staff were friendly and cool. One of my husband's main food groups is pizza and he absolutely loves this place and I concur! As a person who doesn't like pepperoni I would eat pepperoni on their pizza anytime as they were perfectly crisp and delicious We love their pizza but it's a bit costly and the location is kind of far from our house so we only stop by when we're in the area. All in all, highly recommended if you haven't checked them out yet!

Got to stop here when visiting Austin. Picked it because Portnoy rated it well and I was not disappointed. Chewier bread like crust of a Neapolitan with a great sauce. I just got classic today to try the basic but the others sounded amazing too! I didn't notice pepperoni on the menu but that is ok! Food came out quick and friendly service. This is I guess a food truck in a courtyard.... Seems like.... I wish the other buildings were other restaurants/bars. Note: this is BYOB unfortunately so bring your own!

What a cool location. It's warm and welcoming. How do they fit this wood fire over into the pod? There's a lot of outdoor seating. And some indoor as well. Each pizza is made with high quality ingredients. I got a half and half pizza of pepperoni on one side. And a honey spicy sausage on the other. It was delicious! This place is definitely a vibe. Brings that Austin pod culture to life. And shows what you can produce in a quant space.

Great pizza for a good price!! Pizza was so good thin and crispy and also huge. Service was fast you order from a food truck took about 15-20 mins but while you wait there's a wine house and a tattoo shop. Very nice area had live music as well.

Pros: - Brick oven char! - Large pies - Friendly staff - NYC-styled - Austin outdoor vibes - Pet friendly Side Notes: - Brick + mortar closed - Parking around the area - Closed M + T - Made to order (can take time) What We Got: - Full custom pie Summary SAMMATARO is re-opened at the OG location they once started from, which, IMHO, was the better spot. You have the outdoor vibes, and as Austin starts to cool off, it is a perfect spot to take your friends or date on a creative expression of the city. Hours: Check the hours; they are closed on M + T and open during certain hours. I live up north, so when they first opened, I made the mistake of coming on a Monday and had to get subpar pizza elsewhere. Time: They have a full-blown brick oven attached to the shop, giving it a unique char flavor I haven't had in any other pizza in town. It's made to order, so if you don't order in advance, you'll have to wait as they make it fresh. Parking: It's easy to find parking around the area, but look for signs as it's next to a nice neighborhood, so it's better to walk than get a ticket! They also have convenient parking right next to the food truck area, but sometimes the demand is high, so parking might need to be street side. I haven't had an issue yet parking right up front! Taste: We have a lot of pizza places in Austin, but this one is definitely a fave of mine. I'm a fan of the thin crust, with a char that isn't burnt and full of flavor when you bite into it. I love folding my slices vertically in half and chowing down on them in a few bites as if you were in NYC, walking around the city at night. Go check it out. Bring a date, your friends, and/or your family. The fall weather is hitting, so it's a nice spot to enjoy Austin and some damn good pizza.

Carlos, flor, and gabby made the best experience tonight. If I could eat here nightly I would. The vodka pizza was 10/10. The atmosphere was the most beautiful place, do bring bug spray if you want to eat outside, but you won't be disappointed with the taste or the place.

This place deserves all the recognition for its New York style pizza. It really lives up to the hype. We went on a hot day during happy hour and there weren't many people there, so our pizza didn't take long at all. The vodka pie was a perfect twist on a classic pizza- it had a little more spice and kick to it. This is a food truck, so the seating is almost completely outdoors. They have a small area inside but the AC isn't great, so prepare to be a little warm if you're going in the summer months.

Sammataro is an absolute gem. Admittedly, I did not expect to find this caliber of pizza in Austin, TX. It's picture perfect. The service was very friendly and quite frankly one of the highlights. They made me feel like I was a regular there. For a group of 3 they recommended 2 pizzas (more pizza is always better in life), which is what we did. Tried the regular cheese and the vodka Cheese Review - my favorite of the two, it's really well executed. The parm adds great funk. Basil gives it some lift. Really nice crust with minimal flop. Vodka - really really good. The vodka sauce is really flavorful, but doesn't overpower. Perfect amount of cheese.

I am always looking to check out the pizza places around town. This is a food trailer park with a couple of food options in it. I ordered the classic pizza and added pepperoni and mushroom through their online portal. I chose pick up. They were roasting that bad boy up when I got there, so I waited by the trailer. Not much longer later, I had my freshly sliced pizza. This dough is really REALLY good. So soft and airy. The sauce is wonderful! This pizza really stood out as a hidden gem in this city. I loved the freshness, crispness, and always the friendliness of the folks running the trailer. Definitely check this spot out for your New York style pizza needs! read more

I have been here twice and the pizza is in no way accurate to NYC. The slices flop horribly, there is no charring, and no one seemed to know anything about New York pizzas. I really like the small house ambience and the paintings in the back room. But the pizza is no where near what they are claiming. Neither Sammatarro or Baldinucci could hold there own against any NY slice shop. Nice option for Austin poseurs, but definitely not the real deal. The spicy vodka sauce is not even spicy. read more

26 dollars for a plain cheese pizza. 7 dollars for a bottle of sparkling water. ^^let that sink in real deep. I'm truly on the hunt for incredible pizza in Austin and I keep getting let down by mediocre flavors and insane price points. Especially compared to the other food trucks at Arbor park, Sammataro is completely out of their element. We ordered the classic (aka plain) but added pepperoni (so we're over 30 bucks now) and opted to get 2 dollar bottles of water from another truck. The pizza was fine. Thanks for the fresh basil. But overall it wasn't unique, exceptional or memorable - all of which are criteria that should be met (or exceeded) for the price. read more

It's good pizza. But what a disappointment to order a pizza wait an hour to have it delivered just to find out that they connected two or three pizzas together to give us a pie. Come on guys you pay $40 for pizza the minimum you can do is to cook a full pizza. read more

So rude and unprofessional! Our family gathered tonight from California, Asia and North Carolina with our kids who live here! The Pizza was ordered on line for 6.15 and when we checked the order it was canceled and of course there was no way to contact to find our what happened! I guess business is so good that these folks can pick and choose who they will make Pizza for when and what time. That information would have been a lot more helpful when we ordered if they didn't want the order they should have said so. Shame on them. Patricia Compton * The order was for Harrison Compton. P.S. My friend and I went thinking we could have just a slice, since there was an upcoming event that said they had slices. But they only do whole pies - at least currently. Which was actually not a problem because even though this was supposed to be a pre-dinner snack (who does that, I know), we ended up eating the entire pizza except one slice (which obviously, I shamelessly kept in my purse the entire night and ate for breakfast cold the next morning). We chose sausage, mushrooms and basil for our pizza. It was super simple and good. And the staff is really nice. For someone who's weirdly not the biggest pizza fan, I'd definitely go back. read more

This was my first visit and unfortunately the service was below par. It took the waitress a long time to get us drinks. I asked for two cans of Coke, and after waiting for about 10 minutes, I asked the waitress if the drinks were coming, and she responded by saying the bar was backed up... it's only 2 cans of coke - not a cocktail. We ordered a Caesar salad, and used the salad plates. When the pizza came out, I asked for new plates, and the waitress rolled her eyes as if I were supposed to use plates with salad dressing to put my pizza on... the food was good and the vibe was nice but they need to hire an entire new staff for better customer service. I don't plan to ever visit again and won't recommend it to family and friends. I'm sure they will have better days in the future and I wish them the best. read more

Wow! This is the best pizza I have had in town. Had all the big names and this is the real deal. Perfect crust, thin Brooklyn style sauce and the cooking is perfect. If you like Bufalina, you should try this. Larger pies then typical Neapolitan but typical high heat crunch on crust. This is the review that you almost don't want to write because you don't want it to get over crowded, but the service is spot on and we should all want a place like this to succeed. Amazziinng pizza! Super easy to order online and pickup. I've traveled to Italy several times and this is still some of the best pizza I've had. Variety of toppings to choose from. I love how you can split up toppings. It's perfect for people who want to share a whole pie but disagree on what toppings to choose. Crust is thin, crisp, but soft and you can tell the ingredients are really fresh and top of the line which makes it worth paying for a much higher quality pizza. So disappointed. They burned my pizza. I ordered the Classic margarita with pepperoni and I was so excited to try it because I heard great things about this place. I did a pick up order. Ohhhhhhh sooooo good! Great to have a Pizza place in the neighborhood so I don't have to go to the chain delivery places. The crust is NY style and folded perfectly in 1/2. Cooked to perfection in a wood fired oven and topped with 18month old gouda. Very tasty - can't wait to try the other options. read more

Heard lots of good things and was excited to try this place with the family. Was very disappointed. Ordered 2 pizzas and was told the wait would be 25 minutes. After a waiting 30 minutes, I was told by the staff they had to remake the pizza. When it finally came out, it was burnt. Spending $80+ (after tip) for burnt pizza made this experience less than enjoyable. read more

My favourite pizza spot in Austin so far! Beautiful wood fire char on the pizza. Ambient location. I took their recommendation to add calabrian chilli on the pizza and I could not be happier. Ordered 5 pizzas online - of the wrong flavor. The guy at the window was extremely helpful in fixing the order I had messed up. The pizza was incredible and ready at the time I had scheduled to pick it up. This place is reliable, food is amazing, staff is nice, and the ambiance is so cool. We ordered a classic w mushrooms and were told it'd be ready in 40-50 minutes. After 50 minutes we walked to the window to check if our order was ready and the guy told us it was going to take another 30 minutes. The staff's attitude is like they're doing you a favor, and the fact that they're not honest about wait times is very deceiving. Over 1hr & 20 min wait for a pizza no matter how good they say it is, is not acceptable. We ended up requesting a refund and left. read more

Best pizza in Austin for sure, the quality of ingredients and superior taste/flavor is second to none. The crust is perfect and the red sauce is up there with the finest Italian red marinara. If you like crispy think crust then this is the place for you. Food was far from bad but I Tent to like my pizza thicker and more full of toppings. The area it's in is great for a little date with benches and even a dog park. Flavor was good. read more

Very expensive pizza. Paper thin pie. Not impressed at all. Places in ATX are charging like it's Beverly Hills. Coming from California I find these prices ridiculous and way too high. Seems like restaurants/food truck are more affordable in LA than ATX. read more

In 2020, in the heart of Austin’s Hyde Park, Sammataro began as a humble pandemic project when founder Issac Flores built a handmade wood-fired oven in his backyard. What started as a backyard pop-up quickly grew into a full-fledged pizza trailer,and within months Sammataro had captured a loyal following.
