Over the years it's changed owners and I thought for sure with Wayne Stablier's name on it now it was going to be exceptional again! WRONG! Ordered two salads and a kids chicken tender. The kids fries were SO salty and heavily seasoned my 6 year old refused to eat them. My husbands Remoulade Salad had very little dressing and the shrimp were the tiniest I've ever seen. I ordered the crawfish salad and the crawfish were DISGUSTING! Small, greasy, fried crawfish that were so fishy I literally gagged!!!! When asked how our meal was I told our waitress the crawfish were inedible. She responded "Really, hummm I don't know why" Never offered to take my plate away, or for me to order something else. Sammy's was a place we went atleast once a week especially during crawfish season, we couldn't wait to try out the "new" Sammy's. The dressing served with the side salads was literally putrid, something was sour and turned in that dressing, tasted worse than sour milk, on top the crawfish were horrible. Flavorless, overcooked and tasted like rubber. Also- kitchen was out of wings---This whole experience was just incredibly disappointing. SO anyways I came here as a post graduation dinner with some friends. I was pretty surprised to find the restaurant less than half full on a Friday night. I got the regular margarita and that was pretty good. However, the food kinda sucks... Everything that I tried was just mediocre. It reminded me of a more expensive Chili's (sorry, but at least you expect mediocrity there). The dishes I tried lacked any sort of seasoning other than salt. I was so thirsty leaving this place. In recent years I have notice a change in staff and organization but food was still consistent. I came in yesterday to get my crawfish fix as well order fried seafood with fries and salad. What has happened to our beloved Sammy's? This has always been our go to spot for years and years! So very sad to say, Sammy's is no longer an option for us. The quality of so many of the dishes is just sad now. My grilled shrimp caesar salad with undercooked shrimp took the prize of most awful of all. The kids chicken fingers were over cooked in what tasted like old oil. The kids grilled cheese with a fruit cup came out with some odd fruit mixture poured out of a syrupy can, it was gross, and by definition not a fresh fruit cup. We left that evening all talking about how much we used to LOVE to go to Sammy's, it was a place our whole family could agree on. No more. The food was great came out in a mannerly time. But the young waitress we had was horrible. She didn't refill our drinks. She didn't bring our food out the manager did we had to stop other waiter and waitresses to get help. We asked her for ranch 3 times and it's like she couldn't hear. Chimes is a solid restaurant choice if you're not in a rush. There is almost always a wait here, so be prepared! Their menu has a variety of fried seafood, salads, po boys, and other Cajun favorites. The food is good, not great, servers are friendly, and portion sizes are generous. It is for these reasons that we always find ourselves coming back here despite the less-than-stellar food. It is worth nothing that they have delicious crawfish (one of the best in BR) durning crawfish season. If you're a fan of crawfish, definitely don't miss the opportunity to eat here. read more

I really regret getting my Crab Au Gratin Omelet. So on the Sunday Brunch menu the Crab au Gratin Omelet is described as a 3 egg omelet filled with jumbo lump crabmeat TOPPED with Monterrey Jack and Crab au Gratin for $11.95. Well if you look at my pic down there it's obviously NOT topped with ANY crab au gratin and there are only a couple of little shreds of Monterrey Jack. It was mostly just plain eggs, it was very dry and the inside of the omelet barely had any crab au gratin. Guess I was thinking I was gonna get something delicious like the Crabmeat Eggs Benedict from Masons Grill so I was super disappointed when I got it. We waited 45 minutes to get a table and it was really busy so I'm not sure if they were just in a hurry in the kitchen or what. This omelet was definitely not worth $11.95. Thank god that my boyfriend ordered the Acadian Catfish because that was really good so I ate some of that and we ordered some fried cheese as an appetizer that were good too. They put 2 pretty big catfish filets on his plate and put tons of crawfish etouffee on top of it. I'm not sure if their brunch food is just not good or what but I can think of plenty of other places to go for brunch. This was my first time here and I probably won't be returning again to eat any of their brunch food but I would come back to try some more of their seafood stuff. The prices here are quite affordable and the burgers are a good value. I've definitely had better burgers but I've had much worse and there are far better options on the extensive menu. This is a very popular place with the local Baton Rouge population and LSU students. You can certainly hang out and have a good time along with having some decent food at a good value here. Boiled and fried seafood is available here and that is probably one of your best options to eat here (your best option is to keep heading South to New Orleans for better food). The parking can get a bit congested here and I don't know how they seem to pack so many people into this establishment but people seem to really love this place. read more

Lunch was okay today with the gals. Our server was quick to get us started on drinks and come back to take our order. She suggested the pulled pork nachos and someone else at our table ordered the eggplant parmasan. It took about forty minutes for our meals to come out. This was a bit lengthy for a lunch during the week. The nachos appeared to have been microwaved to melt the cheese and maybe sat under the light for a while. Our server never came to check on us so we enjoyed our dry pork and microwaved cheese for lunch. The manager did come by without us asking and take it off the bill. We were very suprise and grateful. I have only been here once, but I liked it enough to go ahead and star it. My first crawfish experience was in California and it was terrible. The texture and flavor of those little suckers turned me off hard, so you can imagine how mortified I was when I found out that my Chef Hubby's career was moving us to Louisiana... awesome. :/ I have yet to make any friends whose mamas can whip up the baddest crawfish around, so I'm taking the shotgun approach and trying different restaurants. So far, Sammy's is the only place that makes crawfish not only edible, but delectable. I went here with my friend who was visiting from CA for her first crawfish experience. We went on a Friday night so it was pretty busy and our wait was about 45 minutes, which built anticipation and expectations as a wait in BR is rare. The atmosphere was buzzing and fun. The service was satisfactory, above the BR average. Not wanting to scare my friend with my distaste for crawfish, I ordered the catfish plate, which was mediocre. I chose the stuffed potato side which tasted like it had been held for a while. I did, however, sample her crawfish and I was delighted. It was sweet and spicy and firm and delish (which is a big deal considering until that moment I HATED crawfish). Here's my star distribution tactic: my meal would not have been worth the wait and maybe get 2 stars (3, without the wait). The crawfish bumped it up to a 4. Great crawfish. This one is in my top 5. Their "fried cheese" is the best I have ever had. Their prime-rib po-boy is also the best po-boy in town (even beats poor boy lloyds). Overall, it is worth a visit. I will have to go back to get another po'boy! I went yesterday with my friend after helping him move. At first, I really couldn't make any decision about what I wanted. It all sounded so good. I ended up getting the chicken fried steak po'boy with a little side of cream gravy. Well, while I typically try not to change a restaurant's dish too much, I am glad I did in this case. The gravy complemented the sandwich so much, I think they should just start offering the po'boy like that.
