Brought vehicle in for a low spark. Ignition coil was replaced but after a month the truck still has a low spark. Also made a diagnosis that clutch needed to be replaced. Clutch was fine per two other mechanics. Quoted me 1200 for a clutch replacement but my mechanic charged 500. Very overpriced shop and in general keep in mind warranties don't matter with any auto shops. They will never admit fault to avoid the warranty. read more

This place is amazing. Sam, the mechanic, is extremely knowledgeable, and the most important quality in a mechanic -- he is HONEST. As honest as they possibly come. He will tell you exactly what you need done with your car and no more, no less. He will *always* offer you a cheaper option if there is one, or tell you when you don't actually need any work. I was referred to Sam by a customer who has been with him for over 20 years and had only positive things to say about him. Frankly, I am surprised that there aren't already hundreds of yelp reviews singing Sam's praises -- but he's a very modest guy who doesn't do a lot of advertising, so I think he is just a hidden gem! His real expertise is in all Japanese and German cars, but he can work on any car you bring him. I went to Sam after having been told by the dealer that I need all kinds of work, totalling more than $1200. Sam took a look at the car and let me know, honestly, what needed to be done. For example, I did not need to have the brake fluid flushed when just cleaning out some of the junk Midas left in there would do the same job. It is such a relief knowing that there is someone I can take my car to whose opinion and ethics I can trust. It makes a big difference and has saved me a lot of money at the dealership! Today, when I went in because my check engine light came on, Sam noticed my headlight had burnt out and immediately replaced it -- he didn't want to charge me anything for that, but Volkswagen headlights are a pain and it took him at least 15 minutes, plus the cost of the light, so I insisted on paying. He also just takes good care of your car -- my driver side door was creaking, and he immediately oiled the hinge. My highest recommendation - I feel 100% comfortable and confident leaving my car with Sam and going with his recommendations on what work to do, and what I can safely live without. read more

He is a miracle worker my friends car has over 300,000 miles. I have a Toyota Corolla I had brakes done oil changes and I'll be coming in next week for my 60,000 transmission fluid change. I've been coming to Sam's for about 2 years now. Very happy that he was recommended. Sam is very honest which is rare in this business. His crew is professional, funny, they will keep you company if you are waiting for your car to be done, they are fast yet it doesn't affect the quality. His place can be a little hard to spot (it's literally smashed between two other car places). I think some other reviewer wrote that he will always offer cheaper option if he can and will always tell you exactly what you do/don't need. No matter what is wrong with my car Sam immediately knows how to fix it and does it right the first time. There have been many times over the years that I have gotten a really high quote for repairs from a dealer and then took it to Sam and he would do the exact same work for hundreds less. Sam has been taking care of our family cars for 30 years, never overcharged, service fee is very reasonable if compare to the car dealers or other mechanic shops. He always stands behind his job. If our cars are still in warranty or if it is in recalled process, he would immediately tell us to take the cars back to the dealer. He would never just do the work for his own $$. I have been there on more than one occasion thinking my car was finished and left with my car sorted for alot less money than I would have expected. I just had my VW Rabbit serviced at Sam's, and it was the best service experience I have ever had in LA! I called Sam to make an appointment for 7am and he was there on time, ready for me. Despite another customer showing up, Sam honored my appointment time. He serviced my car and went beyond the standard service to fix a problem with the exhaust system which my dealership told me they cannot fix and that I should have looked at by a body repair center. Sam instantly spotted the problem and fixed it in no time. After being busy for just under an hour, he only charged me $15 for labor -his reasoning: "I just want to help customers". Don't waste your time and money. Sam is not a mechanic, he's just a parts changer. I took my car in because something was obviously wrong. The whole engine was shuttering and I had zero accelerating power. The first place I took it to told me that it was too complex of an issue for them to tackle and suggested I take it to a mechanic that had seen this issue before. Sam was recommended to me by a work client and he has good Yelp reviews so I thought I was in good hands. I took it to Sam and he said he knew what was wrong. Sam hooked it up to his little machine which read off some sensor codes. He then proceeded to change 5 sensors. He replaced them with some crumby aftermarket crap. He called me and told me what he did and then told me that it was a much bigger job than he originally thought and he wouldn't be able to start working on it for a few days. I couldn't wait that long so I went to pick up my car to take it to a real mechanic. Sam told me that the error codes came back on even after he changed the sensors out. Obviously, because that wasn't the problem in the first place! If Sam was a real mechanic he would have done some troubleshooting before just changing out parts. Sam charged me $515 to put some crappy aftermarket sensors in my car for no reason. When I did take it to a real mechanic, they ended up having to put some of the old sensors back in because the crap parts that Sam put in my car had failed already. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. read more
