Came by for dinner the other night and it was a world class experience. San Laurel is a Jose Andres restaurant featured in the Michelin Guide and is located on the 11th floor of the Conrad Los Angeles. Parking is available across the street at the Walt Disney Arts Center for $10 after 4:30 pm. The restaurant apparently validates parking. Dining is available both indoors or outdoors. The dining area is extravagant. Our server, Johnny, was fantastic providing suggestions and checking up on us throughout the evening. Started off with the heirloom tomatoes and they were excellent. Super light and refreshing! The spanish ham appetizer was world class with super fragrant ham along with the super tasty toast. I do miss the Spanish ham prices in Europe, where it's like the price of buying a taco. ;) The pea appetizer was also excellent. The presentation was world class, featuring contrasting textures and flavors. The Hokkaido scallops appetizer along with the gambas appetizer were both excellent. I was slightly surprised that the shrimps were served tail and skin off...probably to account for the demographic and clientele. For the main, the wagyu flat iron was excellent. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the charring was fantastic. The marbling of the steak was world class. The duck breast entree was also excellent with super crispy skin along with a red centre. Ended the meal with the cheesecake which was surprisingly not too heavy or sweet. ~$112/head after tax and gratuity for dinner.

I met some friends here after work. This is a beautiful spot located in the Conrad Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. It has a very good feel to it. A great spot for a warm Southern California evening. From the moment we entered all the staff were very friendly and helpful and provided excellent service. The food was outstanding! The combinations and flavors were so interesting and unique. although the portions were a little small. The Lubina was cooked perfectly. The Gambas were tender and paired with a delicious pepper sauce. The wild mushrooms in Laurel cream was my favorite dish and we splurged and got the shaved truffle on top which was a nice addition. All in all an outstanding meal in a beautiful restaurant.

Great atmosphere for dinning as a couple and also as a family. Staffs there are always knowledgeable in their menu. Dishes are always great there and definitely opens up our palate. We got the whistlepig and foggy hill, both drink were a nice touch to our dining experience. We went for their meat dishes this time, wagyu and rack of lamb. Perfectly cooked and seasoned very nicely but not over. The lamb meat was removed from the bone and was very easy to cut and enjoy. The rack was so well seasoned with the 13 different spices, you will enjoy the bone as well. Egg Benedict was always delicious but the caviar sauce brings it to another level.

Delicious. Walked in after catching an exhibit at the Broad. The staff were delightful and welcoming. Our waiter Johnny was very helpful, had incredible in-depth knowledge of everything on the menu and answered all our questions. He made sure to ask about allergies before we even ordered. Food was beautifully presented and flavors were so intense. Would definitely come here again to celebrate a special occasion. The ambiance, the cuisine and view of Disney Hall make it all worth it.

Jose Andres has done it again - world-class food in a world-class setting. We made reservations here because we were looking for good food in an outdoor setting close to the Music Center. Our server was helpful in explaining the menu and then left us to discuss. He left us a little too long and I had to go looking for him because I was worried we weren't going to make our showtime, but he was very helpful in expediting our order after that and making sure that we had enough time to finish eating and pay our bill (I think we had just under an hour when I tracked him down). The outdoor patio was lovely with a great view of both Disney Hall and the Music Center. The menu, while not extensive, offered plenty of options for my picky family. The only thing lacking for us was a selection of mocktails - all the drinks were alcoholic. Everything we had was delicious with an explosion of flavors and textures, but my favorites were the blue crab croquetas (eat them while they're still warm), the octopus, which was perfectly tender and not at all fishy, and the pastrami smoked salmon toast montaditos. The stracciatella salad was also wonderful. Child was super excited to try the coca idiazabal, which was a cracker piled high with grated cheese and flowers - the presentation was beautiful, but the cheese wasn't my favorite cheese (it's a sheep cheese). Didn't catch the official name of the dessert we ordered, but child absolutely loved it - a mango passion sorbet topped with mochi and a coconut snow. It was very good. Restrooms are located behind the elevator bank, and they are unisex similar to the ones at the Huntington Rose Garden - it's a shared sink space with individual stalls that go from floor to ceiling. Worth knowing in case you have a child who needs to go. Would 100% come back here prior to a show.

While exploring Downtown LA, I decided to stop in for breakfast at this restaurant (San Laurel) - tucked inside the Conrad Hotel, and it turned out to be a wonderful start to the day. From the warm welcome at the host stand to the attentive service throughout the meal, the hospitality was exceptional. A special shoutout to Andrea, whose friendly demeanor, knowledge of the menu, and thoughtful service elevated the entire experience. The breakfast menu offers an impressive selection, making it difficult to choose. I settled on a cappuccino, a mimosa, and the omelet with mushroom ragù and jamón Ibérico, accompanied by a side of roasted potatoes. Every component was thoughtfully prepared. The omelet was light and perfectly cooked, with the earthy mushroom ragù and rich, savory jamón Ibérico creating a balanced combination of flavors. The roasted potatoes were crisp, well-seasoned, and impossible to stop eating. The setting is equally memorable. Sipping coffee while looking out toward the iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall made the experience feel distinctly Los Angeles. Excellent cuisine, impeccable service, and an inviting atmosphere make this a place worth returning to. Breakfast exceeded my expectations, and I'm already looking forward to coming back to explore their lunch and dinner menus.

I had a 5:15 pre-theater reservation and I was seated promptly. I had a nice little inside deuce facing north. The restaurant is simply but elegantly decorated. The bar is a focal point as is the large wrap around dining terrace. After taking a look at the menu, I had a brief conversation with Elizabeth about the size of the dishes and what to order. I wanted to try a few things so I started with the fennel soup, and then I had the straciatella salad & the scallops. The fennel soup with crabmeat was so beautifully presented and it tasted absolutely heavenly. I wanted that bowl to be never-ending. It was my favorite dish of the evening! Btw, the only miss of the night was that the soup and salad were brought out at the same time. That was not ideal, but when I told Elizabeth, she kindly returned the salad to the kitchen and brought out a fresh one once I'd finished my soup. The salad was good, but quite sweet. I also didn't enjoy the little frisée like, twig-esque lettuce leaves that were tossed in although the strawberries and other elements in the salad were so delicious. It was a bit like having dessert early. The scallops were perfectly cooked and divine. I enjoyed them. I could have done without the sliced grapes, but they weren't really a bother. I probably should have just ended with these items, but I was still hungry. So I ordered the vermicelli Mac n cheese. It came out in a piping hot red serving dish and was interesting... the cheese sauce did not have the depth of flavor that I was looking for, but with the crunchy shallots and the umami of the mushrooms, some bites were quite satisfying. This dish was in the larger side, so I ended up taking most of it to go. I also had a glass of Lefrana 2021, & it was pleasant and accompanied my dishes well. Overall, this was an elevated meal is a sophisticated yet welcoming environment. The service was quite good. I was referred to by name throughout the experience, and all of the staff members were professional and attentive. The bathroom is gender neutral meaning that there is one large restroom with individual stalls for everyone to use. I noted valet parking and self-parking, but I walked & took Angels Flight from Little Tokyo, so I can't comment more on it. Gracias!

We had some reservations walking in, mostly because we were not too familiar with the menu or the cuisine. But honestly, we ended up leaving absolutely delighted. San Laurel at the Conrad Los Angeles, from Michelin chef José Andrés, was such a nice date night treat. The food has that Spanish-inspired feel with a California touch, and everything we tried had a rich and memorable flavor. The menu is not huge, but I actually liked that. It feels like they are not trying to do too much, and instead put more attention into making each dish really count. Every plate felt thought out, from the flavors to the presentation. We started dinner with the bread, roasted eggplant, and seared scallops - already a great way to kick things off. The bread was unique - light, crispy, and a perfect companion to the sauces. The roasted eggplant was something we had never had before. It had a nice depth of flavor and made for an interesting start to the meal. The scallops were beautifully seared and tasty. From there, we also enjoyed the vegetables, Wagyu Flat Iron, sea bass, and dessert. Portions were just right, the pacing was smooth, and nothing felt rushed. Service was also commendable, especially from our server Andrea, who was warm, attentive, and made the evening feel easy and relaxed. Dessert was a great surprise. The Milhojas was not on the menu but came recommended, and I'm glad we went with it. It is a Spanish-style layered pastry, similar to a mille-feuille, with crisp flaky layers and cream in between. Light, delicate, creamy, and a really nice way to end the meal. Overall, this was a lovely date night dinner and a very enjoyable experience. Great flavors, beautiful presentation, good portions, smooth pacing, and wonderful service. We would definitely come back and try the others to the menu!

San Laurel, on top of the Conrad hotel, is a restaurant delivering dishes from chef Jose Andres. If you can find street parking, feel free to park there. If not, valet is $15 with validation. Once parked, we headed to the rooftop to a view overlooking the Walt Disney concert hall. We had a reservation so we were seated right away with a perfect view right around sunset. Started with cocktails, getting the Japanese Milk Punch with Suntory Toki Japanese blended whiskey, yuzu, lemongrass, orange, lemon, nutmeg and clarified with milk. An interesting cocktail with a nice flavor profile, with all of the notes present but nothing overpowering. Well balanced. Food, we started with the oysters, bluefin tuna crudo and fennel soup. The oysters were great with a passion fruit cream paired in the shell. Never had the two paired together and I didn't know I needed that in my life at some point. So tasty. The bluefin tuna crudo was also nice, with a raspberry jous and fresh raspberries. The fish was perfect and the raspberry amped the dish up. But the trash either was the fennel soup with dungeness crab, Manchego espuma and fennel pollen. I don't even really know how to describe this except that it was phenomenal. Our server recommended it and I'm so glad he did. For entrees, we split the wagyu flat iron with a side vermicelli mac n cheese. The flat iron was a Blackhawk Farms flat iron with cone cabbage, spiced piquillo puree and veal jus. The steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned perfectly. The Mac n cheese was very interesting, definitely not your typical Mac n cheese with fideuá pasta, Idiazábal cheese, seasonal mushrooms, egg yolk sauce and crispy shallots. We e very excited for this but it turned out to be the least favorite of everything we are. I don't know if it was the expectation or the lack of cheese in comparison to everything else in the dish, but I don't think I would get it again. Overall, great vibes, staff was very friendly with solid recommendations, and great food. Absolutely get the fennel soup and the oysters, as well as the flat iron. Bluefin was good but not a must, and skip on the Mac n cheese. But definitely go eat at San Laurel when you get a chance.

I've been to many José Andrés restaurants over the years, and most have lived up to my expectations (small plates, high prices, good service). San Laurel fit the profile, but somehow I left unsatisfied. We started with the jamón Ibérico, which was an astonishingly small portion for $40. In retrospect, we should have spent the extra $10 for the pa amb tomàquet (bread with tomato) to make it more filling. The ham croquettes (also wildly overpriced for five), were OK, but not memorable. I've had much better for a third of the price. I scarcely remember the rest of the meal. The view from the terrace is awesome, as is the price of a martini. It comes in one those cute little coupe glasses that "nice" restaurants use these days. For $22 each. I would have had to spend $66 to feel anything. I'm glad I went, don't need to go back

My lunch menu 11 July 2026

Well, where to start: I will NEVER eat at San Laurel again! In the photo below is my lunch menu, notice the Miyazaki entry at $210, well that's the reason for this review. Mr. Cruz, our server, suggests the Miyazaki (A4 Wagyu beef) steak because they had it at a special price of $110. When I receive the bill, I bring the price to Mr. Cruz attention, he tells me that is the price of the steak. I politely reminded him of what he said the price ($110) of the steak was when he offered it to me and my wife. I politely reminded Mr. Cruz not lie to his customers--and that's what real issue of this post is, the lie he told me regarding the real price of the steak. So, I paid the tab $481.80 plus a $75 dollar tip (15% of the tab), I was going to leave ZERO dollars, but my wife is the kind person in our relationship. In conclusion, even if they were to offer me a full refund, I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO San Laurel--the damage is done, PERMANENTLY! @Jose Andres, it is employees like Mr. Cruz that will bankrupt your restaurants, you very well know that it is REPEAT customers like me that keep restaurants thriving and its doors open. Well, unfortunately, San Laurel has seen the last penny it will ever receive from me--good luck, you're going to need it. I noticed Agua Viva, San Laurel's sister restaurant, is no longer open, I wonder why? Maybe, it is because of servers who lie to boost sales (dollars) just as Mr. Cruz did to me and my wife.

For the outdoor seating, dog is allowed?

Service animals only. Highly unlikely that emotional support animals would be permitted. Even if they did, confident the other patrons would not welcome.

Is there outside dining in the evening and if so, where would that be located?

I didn't sit outdoors but I saw it and it looks beautiful. Wraps around most of the restaurant.

Is the main menu only offered during dinner time or is it also offered during the morning open hours?

The breakfast menu is limited to about six items and quite different from the main dinner menu. I would go in the evening, which sports a more robust menu.

Are cocktails available during the breakfast hours (7am to noon)?

When I visited, the bar was closed. The beverage options are coffee, tea and a variety of juices.

    Is this kid friendly?

Depends on how old your child(ren) are and how advanced eaters they are. I didnt see any children focused items on the menu, but suggest you call them to see if there is a age limit or child specific menu if your child(ren) cannot order from the…

    How much is corkage?

$45 per bottle (standard size) for up to two bottles per table, and as long as the bottle is not already sold in the restaurant.

    Is this dog friendly?

It’s not. It’s inside the hotel and not on the ground floor.

Do you validate for valet parking? How much to park at the Conrad hotel if I'm only coming for dining at the restaurant?

This spot opened about a year ago, and has a cool speakeasy style entrance at the Highland Park Bowl bowling alley. It is a small space, and I would highly recommend making a reservation on Resy. You have 90 minutes to drink and dine. I parked behind the bowling alley where there is a medium sized pay parking lot. Park in a space, remember your space number painted on the ground, and go to the pay station at the end of the lot. I found the parking machine to be extremely finicky as did other people. After ten minutes of failure, I ended up moving my car to another space, and then it worked. This has nothing to do with the Lucky Tiki, but FYI if you park there. We walked around to the front of the bowling alley, and checked in. Seating options include at the bar, tiki hut booths, and high top tables. The décor inside is a tiki lovers paradise. The room has a high ceiling with many tiki lamps, floats, puffer fish, tiki huts, thatch, ropes, barrels, netting, carvings, a hanging canoe, and a large tiki right in the middle of the space. In addition to the great décor, when you order certain drinks, special effects are triggered. There was also great tiki music playing all evening. We sat at the bar since we always enjoy talking to the bartenders. We actually ran into Skipper Christian in the parking lot on the way in, and he ended up being our main bartender, with Nick and Jo also working behind the bar. We put in a food order right away. The chicken potstickers ($12) came with five tasty bites, and the garlic teriyaki dipping sauce was good. We also had the giant pretzel ($16) which comes with mustard, beer cheese, and ranch sauces. This was excellent, and the perfect filling snack before a bunch of drinks. My first drink was the Siren's Song (Flor de Cana Eco rum, lemon juice, cassis, Oloroso sherry, apricot foam topper, $19). This drink is served in a great mermaid with skull mug and triggers special sound effects and bubbles fill the air. Those bubbles on top of the drink had a great light citrusy apricot flavor, probably the best flavored bubbles I've ever had. The drink itself was very good and balanced with some complexity. She wasn't sure what to order at first, and Christian asked her what flavors she liked. He ended up making a spin on a Tradewinds with some mango and pineapple to go along with the apricot and coconut. It was nicely balanced and not too sweet, even with all that fruit in there. My second drink was the Sun of Suns (Tierra de Acre mezcal, coconut cream, Giffard mango liqueur, pineapple juice, lime juice, $17). This was coconut and pineapple forward with some good smokiness in the background. Her second drink was the Whatever Floats Your Boat (Ford's gin, lemon juice, velvet falernum, orgeat, passion fruit syrup, guava soda, topped with hazelnut passion fruit foam, $19). It is served in a cool boat mug, and triggers thunder sound effects and lighted mechanical Polynesian tiki characters paddling a canoe over the bar. This was another good balanced drink. It was a little gin forward and the passion fruit popped out, maybe from being both in the drink and the foam top. That creamy hazelnut passion fruit form on top is delicious. I'd happily have a glass of that on its own. We were still a little hungry so we ordered the Hawaiian pizza (marinara, diced pepperoni, red onion, pineapple chunks, hot capicola ham, $16). It was another good tasting, perfectly sized snack, and the crust was light and airy. We were already fifteen minutes over our time limit, but we got the green light to stay longer to order a third drink to share. We ordered the Tiki Diablo (Flor de Cana Eco rum, Worthy Park 109 rum, Alma Tepecha chile liqueur, orange juice, lime juice, mango syrup, guava soda, $24). This drink serves two people, is served in a cool volcano bowl with glowing red lava around it, and comes with a fire show. Unfortunately, right after it was served, the host came over and said we were over our time and had to leave shortly. Christian made up for it by giving us two tall pours to go enjoy in the bowling alley bar area which was fine. We were happy we got some extra time inside. The drink was also very good, balanced with a little complexity. We had a great time. There is so much great décor to look at. The drinks and food were very good, and some of the the drink presentations and special effects were the icing on the cake. All of the bartenders were very friendly and a lot of fun. We purchased up a few zombie glasses to take home as a souvenir. I'd definitely recommend visiting the Lucky Tiki in Highland Park!

I was instantly so glad we chose this spot to celebrate our anniversary because it was the perfect setting for a romantic date night. Now, let's talk about the food! Everything we ordered was delicious, with the exception of the Korean aguachiles, which we probably could've skipped. We also tried the bluefin bibimbap, oysters, and the oh-so-tender short rib that practically melted in our mouths. But the most unforgettable dish was also the simplest: the Korean fried chicken. It wasn't necessarily something out of the ordinary, but it sure tasted like it. The perfect crisp, flavor, and seasoning had us eating every last piece right down to the bone. Our server also made the experience even better. She gave us some of the best recommendations and were incredibly attentive and friendly throughout the entire meal. We absolutely loved this restaurant and are already planning our next visit!

If K-town is not your thing, I guess this is fine, but there are just too many great Korean restaurants in LA for this place to be worth visiting again.

Thunderbolt has been on my list for way too long! I was trying The Parks Finest next door and lo…read moreand behold but what did I see? Thunderbolt!!! Post dinner drinks had me very excited! We walk in and the place is beautifully done inside! Chill ambiance, nice materials, cool tile and artwork . We chose a booth, but there were plenty of seating options on a Sunday earlyish evening. The menu? Whoa! Wtf in a great way!!!! They explain the science behind how they create every elixir aaaand how they are so sustainable! #1 sustainable bar in North America and apparently #24 of top 50 bars in North America! We tried the: Fu Gwaa Falsetto: SO cool! They used a bitter melon, which is hard to include in things, and made a dope drink! The sprinkles on top were my fave and tied the drink together. Koji Killer: dessert drink for sure, but I kinda needed a second one delicious! Barcelonette: refreshing, light, lovely P Town Boxing Club: a little disappointed that I couldn't taste the pandan as much, didn't get as much of a distinct flavor Hops Don't Lie: canned, refreshing, my partner like it! The servers/bartenders were so cool and knowledgeable about the menu, they even brought us samples and let us know if we didn't like something they'd replace it! And did! Will definitely be back to try more concoctions

We decided to get a drink to celebrate Father's Day, only to strike out at the first two bars we tried--I guess a lot of places are closed at 9:30 on a Sunday. This is how we ended up at Thunderbolt, a buzzy bar in Echo Park, just far enough away that we'd never made our way over. I loved it immediately. Thunderbolt has the friendly, comfortable atmosphere of a neighborhood bar and the hip aesthetic and high-level cocktails of a millennial boozer destination. (Not that young people can't or shouldn't hang out here, but it seems especially geared toward people like us, who drank at Walker Inn a decade ago.) We ended up sitting next to a guy who regularly drives up from Palos Verdes. I guess the place gets pretty busy, but it was ideal on a Sunday night. Happening but not crowded, with just enough space at the bar for us to grab two seats together. The bartender was great, super helpful and welcoming. He also made excellent drinks. Thunderbolt is one of those bars with an encyclopedic illustrated book for a menu. Not a long menu, just a detailed one, with a lot of information available about each drink. We got a Liquid Picnic and a Barcelonnette--just one round to close out the weekend. Both were delicious. The Liquid Picnic was a smooth, savory gin martini made with London dry gin, tomato, citron, vermouth, rosemary, and black pepper. I learned from the book that it used clarified tomato water. (There was also further reading about the clarification process.) The Barcelonnette was a mezcal sour with Suze, passionfruit, and lime, the foam made without egg white through some geeky mixologist process. Thunderbolt is not our neighborhood bar, but we plan to go back when we can to check out the rest of the menu. It's a wonderful place, well worth a jaunt on the freeway.
